This is my first time ordering from Mike's Bagels but it will definitely not be my last ... I've really been craving a great lox and cream cheese bagel. I decided to give the app Wonder a try. When searching the breakfast offerings, I was happy to see that not only did Mike's have more than reasonable pricing, the lox Bagels came with capers tomato onion and a wide choice of both cream cheese and bagel flavors ... I was also impressed with the $4 off a $20 purchase ... this is getting better and better ... I added a French vanilla latte as well as a toasted lemon poppy seed muffin ... Mike's has a lot of choices for your breakfast appetite ... my bagel was delicious with the capers --- delivery was very good because the coffee and toasted muffin were still delightfully hot ... When I lived in Washington Heights, was great to have not just a fresh hot bagel place, but a fresh hot great bagel place like Mike's Bagels only a 5 minute walk away. With classic, "old school," savory varieties (other than the newer Cinnamon Raisin and Whole Wheat varieties) at the right density and texture, Mike's also has them priced right. And the staff always prepares your order quickly. Additionally, I always welcomed getting there a reasonably priced Whitefish Salad Bagel, something that has always been comfort food for me since my childhood! Also their toasted Egg Bagel with Butter! Note - Without seating, everything is "to go." Now when visiting the neighborhood, I return to Mike's to grab a dozen or half dozen bagels to bring back. It was my first time here today. When you walk in the smell of fresh bagels take over. A friend and I tried to order BEC ( Bacon egg and cheese) They had no eggs! I then proceeded to order sesame bagel with scallion cream cheese. I did not get it toasted but maybe I should have. The bagel to me was a bit on the hard side and the scallion cream cheese had a bit of a funky taste to it. I was very hungry so I ate the whole thing even though it was a bit hard. There is no where to sit and eat your bagel in the store. There is a little park area where we ended up sitting to eat our food. It was a bit hectic in there today. I wasn't a fan. Maybe my experience was a one off but I got there early in the morning and the bagels seemed a bit monotone; I got a bagel w butter. Not much fluffiness or bite to the bagel even though it was warm. Staff was really kind and kept the line moving. Mikes rates a 4. The takeaway, no place to sit and enjoy. This is basically a get it to go. Staff was fast and efficient but smile less. Perhaps the busyness of Saturday morning's at 8 am. Bagel was definitely fresh with a good amount of cream cheese on my everything bagel. The bagel itself was the right amount of chewy and crispy making for enjoyable eating. Considering the abundance of great bagel spots in NYC, it's hard to rate Mike's Bagels above 3 stars. The bagels and spreads are all fine, but nothing really stands out here. The menu offerings are pretty standard, minus the lack of any breakfast sandwiches (no BEC). Service is quick, but the lines can get pretty long. On the few occasions I stopped by, I had the everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and the Italian combo sandwich. I ordered one chipotle chicken special on an onion bagel toasted. It was ready and served up within 3 minutes and it was absolutely delicious. Full of flavor with plenty of meat and huge proportions. Not too expensive for NYC bagels and quite the servings. A filling lunch for 10 dollars. Honestly I can split each half and call it two lunch servings. You are in and out within minutes, and the service is quite nice. They provide good recommendations and help you make your best bagel sandwich. This is a great place and recommend you try it. I discovered this little spot right near Columbia Presbyterian when a family member was here over the course of a week, and it was quite the breakfast/snack lifesaver (for me. The medical staff at the hospital of course were the true life savers). Mike's is a compact, unadorned little shop with a real, traditional NY deli feel. They specialize in bagels and sandwiches in particular The highlight here for me is their incredibly interesting scallion cream cheese. Normally that's of course your traditional while cream cheese with some (hopefully) fresh and ample scallion slices dropped in. Not at Mike's, though. I thought they made a mistake with my order the first time, because they must blend or whip that sucker up into a green mixture that looks more like someone dropped a schmear of pesto on your bagel, but oh my was it flavorful. This of course became my go-to topping on virtually everything I got here. Breakfast bagel--scallion cream cheese. Turkey on a bagel--what would you like on it? Scallion cream cheese, of course. Come here and try it on something. And if scallions aren't your thing, I'm sure you can still get a bagel to your liking. These guys know how to properly bake and toast up a bagel, and will serve you in prompt, terse yet efficient, NY fashion Unfortunately their coffee is also true old fashioned NY deli style fashion in that it is a bit on the burnt and flavorless side, but you can always grab your coffee elsewhere. When I try to correct the orders they said it was made already. I gave my order to the homeless the one that was mess up and try to reorder my correct order no one would take my order. I have been looking for a bagel place near upper Harlem and am so glad to have found Mike's! Service was quick and accurate, couldn't ask for better. I ordered an everything bagel with lox and scallion cream cheese. The bagel was amazing with perfect seasoning, and the taste of the entire thing was great. I personally wasn't a fan of the texture of the cream cheese- it wasn't as creamy as I would like. Not sure if it's just the scallion and it's not a deal breaker for me. I honestly hate to give a 2 star review, especially during this pandemic. However, Mike's just didn't measure up to other amazing bagels I've had. Are they the worst? Absolutely not. I would give the bagel itself like a 3.5. Now....I saw another review raving about the scallion cream cheese. This was a MAJOR turnoff for me! I'm cringing thinking about it right now because I can not for the life of me pinpoint what is the ingredient that's is in there which isn't in others?! Not sure why I think it may be cilantro-ish? Either way, it was not for my palette at all. Due to this, I didn't finish my bagel. Additionally, they don't make egg sandwiches. Whaaaaaat? That's nuts to me in NYC! A bacon, egg, and cheese is literally a NYC staple for the love of God! They do however, have cold spreads such as egg salad etc. The staff were fairly nice and there wasn't a minimum for a card which was great. Had I gotten a regular cream cheese, I'm sure this rating would've been a overall 3 stars. You can't go wrong with a no frills bagel from this place especially if you are in the hospital. I can't believe a boomer in the wrong line called these people slow at 9 in the morning. He was standing around waiting for attention in a crowded post-covid bagel spot with about a dozen hospital employees with actual places to be (we are definitely not seeing any of the Medicare in OUR futures).
