Coffee strong, staff polite. Nice array of drinks and pastries. Mixed ambiance. Decent area for remote work as well. Some areas have times seats however.

Charlotte Cafe has a charming local coffee shop vibe, from the friendly baristas to the communal atmosphere. I've been to the kips bay location a bunch, this UWS cafe felt a little more crowded. The seating here wasn't as intimate, with more of a square floor plan that doesn't lend itself to cozier spaces like the kips bay spot. But the menu is just as good in both locations, espresso drinks consistently hit the spot. Definitely a quality option for a local coffee shop!

Charlotte Coffee Shop - The STRONGEST Espresso EVER

Charlotte Coffee shop stands out amongst others. Because of their food, exceptional service and beautiful atmosphere upon entering. A classy place indeed with genuine smiles from the staff. They have one of the STRONGEST ESPRESSO coffee in town. I highly recommend this Coffee shop on any given day.

Charlotte Cafe is one of those spots you stumble into on the Upper West Side and end up staying longer than planned. Super convenient--right near all three subway lines--so it's perfect if you need a pit stop to get some work done between trains. The vibe is cozy, with both indoor and outdoor seating that works well for laptop life. Not the place for a gourmet snack though--the pistachio latte is fine, nothing to write home about, and the cookie's pretty forgettable (and tiny). Service is average, but the overall setup makes it a solid go-to if you're looking to knock out some emails or chill in a laid-back space.

Pretty good cafe. Ambiance is cute with a nice outdoor dining area. The coffee was decent taste. The cheddar scone was very yummy. Service was good.

The best coffee on UWS. Amazing staff, quick service, superb snack options and extremely well priced. Plenty of comfortable seating too.

This macchiato was pure comfort in a cup, rich and perfectly balanced.

This macchiato was pure comfort in a cup, rich and perfectly balanced. It warmed me up instantly while the rain poured outside. Smooth, strong, and ready in minutes -- exactly what a rainy day needed.

honestly, excellent coffee and service is extremely fast. It was packed before noon and had tons of people working and chatting, so seems like a good place to work and catch up with friends too. I got an iced latte with double espresso and almond milk, and you can tell the espresso is really high quality. It was very smooth, not too milky, and really let the flavor of the coffee beans shine. Delicious!!

Hot Chocolate

Was craving a hot chocolate and this was the closest place in the area, so I decided to drop by while waiting for a nearby art cafe to open. There was a nice ambiance that seemed like it would be good for working, and it was relatively crowded. The hot chocolate came in a nice cup and was tasty. However there wasn't anything particularly special about it, but I suppose I shouldn't expect much as I imagine most people are going for the coffee or pastries. Maybe I'll try one of those if I'm ever in the area again.

Good vibes in contemporary, clean, welcoming environment. Excellent pastries.

Friendly place! Coffee great! Employee owned? Well, the owner works there, but beyond that, hard to tell what employee owned means.

The hot chocolate (and chai latte) are too die for. You can really taste the quality of the 'real' chocolate. 10/10 I'd come back.

I stopped by the Hungarian Pastry Shop on a rainy Sunday afternoon, knowing I would be in the…read moreManhattan Valley area. Despite the foul weather, the bakery was packed to capacity with a small line forming outside waiting to order to go like me. The line moved efficiently and I was positionrd to order within about fifteen minutes. I ordered the baklava, apricot hazelnut cake, and the cherry cheese strudel, the latter seemingly drawing lots of attention, but accompanied by some disappointment in the reviews I read. Whole standing there, I noticed the fruit tarts on the left in the display case and ordered a plum and an apricot tart. If you're Guyanese or from the Caribbean, you know well the pine (pineapple) tarts. The young lady wrapped them individually in parchment paper and within a box constructed with seasoned hands and this string that is dispensed from an overhead spool that looks like an overhead hanging light without the light. It seems rather ubiquitous, but I don't recall ever seeing such. The apricot hazelnut cake is the most refined of all these treats. The top layer is a type of merengue or whipped cream and the apricot forms the bottom layer with a thin layer of hazelnut in between and hardly makes its presence known. It's not a sweet sugar bomb and would be accompanied well by some Earl Grey tea. The baklava I had two days later and this is the one best consumed the same day or the next day at the latest. The thin flaky layers of phyllo dough are presumably only accomplished by butter like a croissant and this must be experienced fresh. The nuts and other filler are very good, but you should experience the phyllo counterpoint afresh. This could be the best of everything had I had it fresh. The baklava is made for coffee. The cherry cheese strudel was great. I don't know why there are some mixed to disappointed reviews, but I found it delicious and definitely would order this on repeat. It's not too sweet and the balance between the cherry compote and creamed cheese seemed just right. Coffee or tea would pair well. The apricot tart was better than the plum tart. The plum tart had a grainy plum filling, but the apricot filling was on point. The triangle pastry is a bit large in pastry with relatively little filling, but the balance is still pretty good. Tea accompanies these fruit tarts nicely. I appreciate immensely that nothing was overpoweringly sweet. Sugar is often used as a substitute for real baking expertise and you can count on the Hungarian Pastry Shop to deliver treats a mature palate will recognize and appreciate. Service was good and the place was packed when the weather was bad. 4 quality stars and very return worthy!

Finally made it uptown to The Hungarian Pastry Shop. The block is actually quaint and across the…read morestreet from St. John's Cathedral. Got there around 1 PM on a weekday, they were just starting to run out with some items. The pastries were very fresh & delicious in a comforting way. Got a Cardamom Bun (mild flavor, with light layer of apricot jam in the layers) & the Sacher Torte (Excellent! Austrian hazelnut flour torte, raspberry jam). I'm not familiar with a lot of the items & wish they were labeled. Would have ordered more. The cafe was *very crowded & kind of loud. The ambiance didn't seem enjoyable compared to the calm UWS streets. The outdoor tables looked calmer even though a short line blocked the front of it. There's only a line because the counter is close to the front door and little space to wait. The 2-3 counter staff was very nice & patiently answered questions (labeled & priced pastries - with ingredients/nut disclaimer still would have helped & move the line along) . Took the treats to the community garden on the corner. Keep exploring NYC y'all!
