For our 5th anniversary, we decided to go to Ghost pepper. The live DJ played old school music that made for a nice vibe. For appetizers, we ordered elote. Alas, the search for the best tacos continues... There were some redeeming qualities, but the pork belly tacos weren't one of them. For a drink I ordered a classic margarita. This thing was strong! Here I am writing an hour later and I am still feeling the effects. It was a little sweet for my tasty, but a squeeze of the lime was all it took to balance that out. Nothing mind blowing, but for a classic marg, it fit the bill quite well! Where it comes to the Chicharrón (pork belly) taco plate, this had the makings of something great, but fell flat. The pork belly was a little too crisp (i.e. dry), though the flavors were there. A different manner of cooking is all it would take to make these incredible! Pork belly aside, the ingredients were well balanced, and there was a nice amount of freshness in the tacos. As for the guacamole, this more resembled a sauce than a mouthwatering and chunky guacamole. The taco plate comes with cilantro rice and beans. Cilantro rice was good! It was seasoned and cooked very well. The beans were... well, beans! Take it from me, unless you really love rice and beans, just get three tacos instead. For the Pupusas, these were remarkably unimpressive and uninspired. These were two griddled tortillas filled with a ground pork that other than a bit of salt had not much oomph or dimensionality. The sauce was a miss. It felt more like a pasta sauce, albeit a nice one, that was heated. The pickled cabbage was a nice touch to add some acidity, but not enough to lift this dish out of its pit of despair. The Churros were the winning dish that night. These were cooked to perfection with a light crisp exterior and a soft airy interior. The cinnamon sugar and caramel gave a lovely sweetness. Though, it seems most of the caramel was there to make the plate look pretty. Where it comes to the location, it was cool, colorful, modern, and bumping! Overall, I'd say this had more a lounge-with-food vibe than a restaurant. There is a large horseshoe bar in the center and tables around it. Most tables are for 2 people, though two tables were 4-person, and two could seat 8. Though at tables, space is at a premium because of how small they are. Music plays rather loudly, though I could swear it got quieter at 8:30 than it was at 6:00! read more

I went here for brunch and the highlight was the service. Very friendly, helpful, and when my friend did not like the spicy espresso martini the server had a normal one made for no added cost. The food itself was nothing impressive. I got the Egg Benedict Carnitas and it did not come with the carnitas so I had to ask for it to be sent out separately. The potatoes were great, but everything else fell flat. The setup was nice, but it felt more like a restaurant meant for at night than brunch. Gluten Free: I called ahead of time and they confirmed they had gluten free options. The menu was not marked. When ordering I asked specifically about the Egg Benedict Carnitas. The manager, Angelique, was great! Pre and during our event, she was attentive and accommodating! We hosted a holiday party here in the later half of December and everyone had a great time! The bar is a large oval and was packed out very quickly. We asked for a signature drink and mocktail for our guests that they were able to accommodate. The drinks were ok, but came with cute orchids. We ordered a number of dishes: fish and chicken tacos, chips and salsa, street corn, and wings. I thoroughly enjoyed the fried fish tacos that had lettuce, an aioli, and lime on it. The fish was perfectly fried and the aioli added the necessary flavor. The corn was a hit as well. I heard from others that the wings and chicken tacos were tasty as well. I'm sad I didn't get a picture of all the food because it all looked great. For dessert, we requested churros for our guests which were pipping hot out of the oil! The service from the waiters were great, the waitresses could've been more attentive and frequent to our party guests. But overall everyone enjoyed their time, especially the karoake by Chef! The service here is horrible! When I first walked in 45 minutes after they opened, the server at the bar was very attentive. Shortly after the crowd arrived, she was buried in her phone at the end of the bar. There were also 2 other bartenders working this night. Oh how fun! And delicious! Just good vibes all around. I came here on a Friday night with a friend to check the place out. We ordered chips with salsa & guac to start. It was a good portion size and all tasted fresh. Then I ordered 3 different tacos but only made it through 2 as they were larger than expected and very filling! The carnitas and pork chorizo were delicious. I wanted to keep eating as everything was addicting but I was just too stuffed. Horrible Service!!!! The bartenders did not give me or any of my friends our change back, keeping it to themselves! They also never bothered to acknowledge us afterwards, not letting us get said change. My waitress continuously forgot my order, although it was written down on her notepad. Now on to the food and drinks. We had the taco plate and both selected 1 shrimp taco and 1 fried chicken taco. The dish is served with rice and beans. The shrimp left more to be desired and was pretty basic. The fried chicken taco was a clear winner. I'd definitely recommend that one. One of our orders didn't arrive with the rice and beans and this was altogether forgotten. We did notify the waitress but unfortunately this wasn't corrected. The rice and beans were pretty standard. Our beverages were great so I'd for sure recommend Ghost Pepper for drinks across the board. Note - there was a second waitress (blonde low cut...wish i got her name) who stepped in to provide us with napkins and water. The guacamole was not fresh (darker green and lacked flavor). The first batch of chips were stale. The salsa was good. However, the tacos were not. The fried chicken taco had a rather gummy texture. The fried chicken taco and shrimp taco were swimming in mounds of cabbage/slaw. The steak taco was the most flavorful of the three (steak, chicken, and shrimp). If the service wasn't so good, I think we would have left. The drinks were 50/50. I enjoyed the white sangria, but my friend didn't enjoy the house special margarita. This is a great spot for some tapas and drinks! We visited during an event and they had the place decorated nicely. Drinks were strong and tasted good. Just note that most things on the tapas menu are somewhat spicy. I'm not a "hot" kinda guy and it wasn't too spicy for me. Tonight, the kitchen got my order wrong, the server didn't comp anything, and then on top of it all she accidentally double charged my card. I was so excited to hear that a taco place was opening down the street from my house. I came here on a Thursday night with 2 of my girlfriends. For once, we didn't make dinner reservations, but I didn't think it would be a problem since it was around 8:30pm on a Thursday night in Dorchester. Unfortunately, the wait was around 50 minutes for a table, so we found two open seats at the bar. There were very few tables for groups, but plenty of 2-seater high tops around the bar area. I loved the Spanish music playing because it made me want to dance, but unfortunately no dance floor. Ghost Pepper had more of a lounge-y atmosphere than a sit-down dinner feel. The drinks were delicious and not too pricy. I ordered the ghost pepper margarita ($12) and burning passion ($12). I also tried my friend's El Jengibre which was delicious. All had the right amount of spiciness and alcohol. The only drink I didn't like was the Peruvian Melon as it tasted water down somehow even though there was no ice in the drink. I also may be biased because I just came back from Peru and the pisco drinks I had there were obviously on point. We were finally seated in what seems to be the lounge area of the restaurant which would be ideal for just drinks. However, we were ready to order a bunch of plates because we were starving. The table barely fit all our cocktails, waters, empty plates and utensils. Luckily, by that time it was well past 9pm and people were leaving, so we asked one of the servers to move us to a booth. We ordered the elote (street corn - $9) which was delicious. It came out with 4 large cobs smothered in delicious sauce. We also ordered the pork belly ($12) which was amazing. Still drooling thinking about it. I was most excited to try the tacos, but was ultimately disappointed. The carne asada was just average and the carnitas came out dry. Each one of us ordered separate tacos, but they ended up mixing all of them together on different plates when serving us which made it confusing. My friend ordered the pulpo and she said it was overcooked. She also tried to order tacos in lettuce wraps, but they did not have it. What's more disappointing was how overpriced each taco was for subpar quality and size (around $5 or $6 each taco). Looks like I'll have to continue trooping over to Bartaco to get my taco fix. I'd definitely come back here for drinks, other food options, and to try the dessert. The server gave me the dessert menu around 10:15pm, forgetting to mention that the kitchen closed at 10pm, and I was so excited to try the tres leches... unfortunately it will have to wait until next time. read more

The tacos are overpriced. I ordered the pulpo, carne asada, and chicharron tacos. The pulpo was overcooked and a little salty. The carne asada taco was a little dry - it really wasn't anything special. The chicharron taco lacked filling (see picture). It was supposed to come with fennel slaw but I think I got one shred of lettuce in the whole taco. For $5-6 per taco, I was expecting to be blown away. Also, FYI, they couldn't do lettuce tacos - which is a shame because so many people have dietary restrictions and many taco places now cater to this by having lettuce tacos as an option. All came out cold which made the meal much less appetizing. The meat tasted as if it had been marinated in vinegar, then cooked very rare. Walked in on a Sat nite around 530 pm. Place was relatively empty. Big open area with a huge horseshoe shaped bar . Barmaid was pleasant and attentive especially considering we were one of maybe 6 other people at the bar. Ordered chips which were cold and tasted like store bought. Bit over priced ( but everything is now, so not their fault) Bland dry food, hard rice, tough steak, we ordered drinks, very light on the alchohol, but it was a tasty drink! Service was almost non existant. We sat at the bar, not busy, Sunday night and all. Busy or not we are still customers! Bartender was too busy out back and talking to friends across the bar to be bothered to at least glance our way to allow us to order more drinks as we had finished ours and wanted more, we were still eating. I feel like they put more money into the ambiance/vibe than they did the actual menu - not really a chef-driven restaurant, but seems more like a business opportunity in an up-and-coming area. I live right next door and I walked over to pick up my takeout order. Sadly, I was disappointed with the sloppy and soggy mess of a shrimp taco order that I received. I was starving and couldn't wait to finally try their tacos. I opened the takeout box, placed them on a plate, and I had this rather unappetizing dish staring me in the face. I was only able to eat the shrimp and ended up throwing everything else away. I was excited to see what the hype was about, but unfortunately, I was left disappointed. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. Takeout isn't cheap and I ended up wasting $15-$20 for a few pieces of shrimp.
