I love ordering from here. The food is always tasty. A bit pricy but when I have money I like to order from here.

Their naan here is incredible! I haven't had a chance to try a lot of things on their menu but from what I have tried, everything has been delicious. Baingan Bharta is one of my fave Indian dishes and they do it well here. Their biryani is good but very very spicy. I slightly prefer the biryani at the Khadai restaurant in Bethesda. Their biryani seems less fried and has more vegetables. My husband ordered the shrimp vindaloo which he enjoyed very much. Would definitely come back here for dinner to try more of their appetizers and vegetarian entrees. read more

This is a decent Indian restaurant. Nothing here is out of this world but they do a good job across the board. I always get the Chicken Vindaloo and they make it decently spicy (could be hotter) but the portions are pretty big so I can't complain much. They deliver which is fantastic!! This unassuming restaurant is little on size, but big on flavorful dishes. The seating is a bit tight. I was wedged in at a two seater table between two other tables for two. We were so close together I couldn't help eavesdropping on both conversations. Most folks were there for their lunch buffet, but being a non meat eater I ordered off the menu. It didn't end up being a cheap lunch; $25 to be exact. I started with an appetizer. The Paneer Pakora ($5.99) was okay. I mean, it is just four wedges of cheese fried in a chickpea batter. I think I'd skip it next time and order another lassi and an extra basket of hot out of the oven naan. That is what you can get for the same price. The vegetarian selections are good. I had the Aloo Gobhi ($11.99). It was a spicy combination of steamed potatoes and cauliflower florets cooked in flavorful herbs. It doesn't look like much food for the price, but i ended up taking some home. The rice was nice too. Service was pleasant. Several people came by to check on us, yet weren't too intrusive. Good lord! Chintzy servings at high prices! WTH?! After a year of passing by, I finally found the time to go and try this place out. (The rain outside helped encourage me to go inside rather than going a little farther for food.) I was promptly seated, but let me tell you--the place was so dimly-lit I had to use the flashlight app on my phone to read the menu. now, I'm used to the price of Indian food in MD but still it felt a little high. Nonetheless orders were made and... Not enough food to justify the cost. Not one bit. Sorry, but ordering rogan josh and getting half a handful as a serving with a paltry amount of rice does NOT count as a meal! All in all, I didn't enjoy my dining experience there. I did leave a tip (it wasn't the waiter's fault, after all), BUT I did leave an explanation on the back of the receipt explaining why I wasn't coming back...which was only halfway legible because the whole dining room was so dim. Not coming back. Next time I'll walk all the way to Bombay Gaylord. the food was better and a smidge better serving size. read more

I called to cancel and request my credit card be credited back the money for my order. The food was never delivered and they still have not credited back the charges on my card. So I echo the sentiments of the others: listen to the reviews! Went for the lunch buffet and was underwhelmed. There were literally 6 things on the menu, and as a vegetarian that made my options very slim. The saag paneer was watery with no cheese mixed in, and the rice was hard. I have been to Indian restaurants with a much better buffet selection for the same price. The three stars are given because the customer service was good, and the personal basket of naan was nice. Very satisfied, and happy with the food here, closest to home food. We ordered the Aloo Tamma, with rice and the soup momo (Nepalese dumpling) - loved it. Also got to speak with the owner, who harvests all the vegetables served in the kitchen. I also got the buffet, their shrimp fried rice was something new for me and I would order it again. This small spot is a true find and a gem. We have walked past it before, but this evening we decided to give it a try. The people are extremely friendly and the dining area is crisp, clean and comfortable. Service was very good. No rush. Our waiter kept an eye out for when we had finally put the menus down, and then asked if we were ready to order. The menu is fulsome and, for others who are vegetarian like ourselves, has a large number of choices. The food was excellent; the breads were fresh and very tasty. We had the vegetable pakoras and samosas to start. Both were done perfectly. The three of us shared our entrees and we were very happy. I've eaten here at least 50 times (dined in once) but always order delivery. Even when playing Russian Roulette with my food order options, I have never been disappointed with the flavors and taste of my food. Once I pop open that bag and catch those aromas, "Yes Laawwdd." This restaurant has a history of delivering me perfection. However... On my very last order, for the first time EVER, my food was cold, my order was extremely late, the new delivery guy is just TRASH!! He reeked of poor grade marijuana and was extremely rude, which was a confusing contradiction. My order was about $32, I gave him two twenties and when I asked him for my change (key phrase: I asked HIM for my change, he didn't even try to give it back) he scoffed at me... ?!?! ....Bish! We don't pick our own tips around these parts. I digress. The only way I'll order (via delivery) from here again is if you guys fire that loser. -1 star for the delivery driver, not the food. read more

A mix of Indian and Nepalese, but with a healthier emphasis. Most of the meats used in dishes are cooked in Tandoor clay oven (reducing need for fats) along with sourcing locally-grown vegetables. You'll find many traditional dishes that are well executed (Saag Paneer, Chana Masala, Dal Makhani, Lamb Roganjosh, Chicken Korma, various kababs, etc.). Dishes are typically sized as mezze portions, with rice served separately. This makes it easty to share, although three portions for two people provided enough food to take some home that was enough for another meal. Nice service as well. For example, I liked that they filled my water glass once, maybe twice, during a long meal. It never got completely empty, but they weren't hovering to stock my glass every 3 minutes full of undrinkable ice. There is an interesting highlight of organic wines by the glass. They took over the business next door, good for them doing well, the Lunch buffet is another good sign, dying to try it. I went back for the 5th time or so, The chicken in my vindaloo was the most tender I can remember, the spice was the spiciest I've ever had except for visions in petworth. Fresh pepper heat, no extract, not dimensional in flavor, just searing relentless heat that stays in your mouth, no throat or head heat, or psychedelic visions. GLAD I dipped the nice fluffy nan in the sauce to taste it first. Ate the several pieces of chicken over my rice and quarantined the sauce. Lovey had the butter chicken, I lusted for both. All the food was wrapped up and stapled up shut even though we never asked to take our food to go. The entire dining experience left me wanting...more. Not food, but authenticity. They offer a $9.99 buffet (which is actually a very good price) but there weren't many options to choose from. The tandoori chicken was good, but there was a lot of cartilage to pick through. The butter chicken is exceptionally delicious, as well as the yellow lentils and naan. The cabbage and various other veggie dishes left something to be desired. I think the entire buffet consisted of about 7 dishes, rice pudding, salad, and your standard yogurt & cilantro sauces. The restaurant itself is very clean and classy looking, right down to the cloth napkins and strategically placed bottles of wine. So, you ask, why give this place 3 stars? It wasn't welcoming. The staff isn't rude, but they're not very nice either. It's very quiet and you almost feel out of place. In my experience, whenever I've eaten at an Indian restaurant there's always a certain charm to it. It's just there, and it has nothing to do with how clean or perfect everything looks. It's about the bold spices wafting through the dining area. The beautiful art on the walls or throws decorating a plush seating area. Good platters! Not the biggest fan of their prices for an individual entree, but I will give them four stars specifically for the samplers... vegetarian platter about $23... and delicious. Biggest and only real complaint, slow "hands off service." Came here for dinner before seeing a movie. We were sat pretty quickly and service came pretty fast. I will say the restaurant felt very dark in terms of lighting, but the food was pretty good! We split two dishes and got the basket of nan...for two people this was a lot of food. While I love bread, the basket of nan was a bit too much. Came here for lunch buffet and was pleasantly surprised. I'm visiting from out of town. Interior is clean and nice. Cloth napkins, etc. Service was excellent and surprisingly attentive for lunch buffet. There are 3 or 4 guys making rounds at all times. The buffet was constantly replenished, which is a good sign...small, hot portions that haven't been sitting around all day. The buffet itself was on the smaller side but the variety was excellent. Today they had veggie pakoras, tandoori chicken, and at least 4 curries ranging from veggie to fish to chicken. Fresh naan was brought to the table. I found everything to be quite tasty Overall the buffet is an incredible bargain for $11. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Not sure why it doesn't have a higher rating on Yelp. I've been coming to this restaurant for the better part of seven years I believe at this point. I have literally never had a single bad meal. They're chicken vindaloo and lamb vindaloo are absolutely amazing. The butter chicken is outstanding. The pakoras, the samosas, and their lentils all have complex flavors and are feeling. The portions are huge, and the non is absolutely delicious. It's insane that anyone would give this a rating less than a 5. Be sure to give them your business the next time you're near by. Food is good. Overpriced but decent. I've ordered delivery from them a dozen times but the last two were so rude that I won't be ordering again. They've forgotten parts of my order on multiple occasions and delivery time is very inconsistent. Sometimes twenty min sometimes almost two hours with no notice. The spice level is also very inconsistent within their food. Why have a spice level when everything is going to come out with ZERO spice even when telling them very clearly for very very spicy on multiple occasions. I've decided this place won't be on my delivery rotation anymore. Old Review: Indian restaurant that delivers steaming hot food to my door! Yes please. Did the lunch buffet, reasonably priced and with accommodating staff. Owner seems very nice and the cooking feels like comfort food from my mother-in-law. I especially liked that its organic and from a family run farm, so their business practices are admirable. I'll be coming back here. My only complaints were that the baingan was a little too greasy (possibly spoiled since I'm used to a home recipe) and some of the pakora felt soft and less crispy. Last week, for a large garden party, we ordered veg. biriani, saag paneer, channa dahl, and chicken curry, plus samosas, pakoras, and momos for appetizers. Everything was excellent and the guests raved about the food, which arrived on time and in quantity. It made our special celebration that much more festive and wonderful. Have you ever walked into a restaurant that you haven't been to in a couple of years and almost do not recognize the place? That's what happened to me a few weeks ago when the family unit and I had a sudden Indian craving while milling about in downtown Silver Spring, so we ventured over to Ghar-E-Kabab solely due to its close proximity. We entered the restaurant and I was expecting a tiny shoe box, but was stunned to see rows of tables adorned with white linen cloth and wine glasses. They had obviously had bought out their former neighbor and expanded their dining space. ********************************************************************** I have to break into this update to address the number of recent reviews who complain of Ghar-E-Kabab's supposedly high prices. I did a quick search of other area Indian restaurants and their prices are on par with the going rate for Indian fare in the DC area. Most entrees are around the $15-$16 dollar range. That's hardly price gouging. If you want expensive - go to Rasika. Back to the update. ********************************************************************** Not only has the space expanded at Ghar-E-Kabab, but the menu has as well. There are more vegetarian options, appetizers, soups and salads, and even some children's options (a rare find in most Indian restaurants). We have tried a number of dishes since rediscovering this place and all of them, from the Rogan Josh to the Kukhura ko Masu, have been fine to exceptional. I will also note that their Chicken Vindaloo was one of the hottest Vindaloos that I have eaten, even though the waiter tried to dissuade me from ordering it in the first place. When will people learn that this white boy can handle the heat? In fact, I crave it (my ass - not so much). At the end of the day, Ghar-E-kabab may not be the greatest Indian restaurant on the planet, but it is a very fine restaurant that I definitely recommend to visit if you are in the Silver Spring area. read more
