This is a gem of a restaurant with wonderful food and very sincere and attentive staff. We had the butter chicken and saag paneer with garlic naan and an order of momos. The saag paneer was delicious and the butter chicken was very good (but didn't come close to the Wee Curry House). Both very flavorful and well prepared -- served with rice that is well beyond the usual mediocre rice. The garlic naan was also delicious, but must agree with Su K. that the order is a bit small. I was excited to come here given my love of a good momo, and must say that they were not what I had hoped, but the rest of our food totally made up for any momo disappointment -- and the service was the perfect compliment to the food. I left with the same feeling you get from a home cooked meal. Total comfort food -- and immediately apparent that it is prepared with great care and attention...more like eating in the home of a friend or family member -- where you are treated more like family than a customer. Ouch, my wallet hurts. $13 chana masala? $2.50 per samosa? That's setting some pretty high expectations. I've ordered here a few times and every time it doesn't feel worth it. Consider your substitutes: chana masala is now cheap, easy, and fast to make at home. What are you getting here for your extra ~$10? That said, the food is good (I particularly like the Baigon Bharta eggplant dish), and the delivery alternatives are dismal so if you want Indian, this is about it. But consider this a solicitation: someone out there should start an Indian place in Silver Spring that delivers. The market is wide open. read more

I couldn't figure out whether to give this place a 3 or a 2. I settled on a 2, but it's a high two. First, the positives. service was friendly and attentive for the most part. our drinks were refilled often and they were able to see our body language and move us from a drafty table by the door to a warmer table in the back. everyone was very nice. On the downside our meal took over an hour to be prepared. maybe more like an hour and a half. I'm not sure why i even stayed and didn't leave. I was confused but they told me that tandoori chicken and vegetarian ghar-e-kabob thali took a long time to prepare. I was skeptical but obviously i don't want to piss wait staff off or give them too hard a time - especially these people who seemed very nice. I am fairly certain our meal was never put in or lost by the chefs, because other people were served. and when we did get the food, some of it seemed a bit charred and dried - maybe trying to cook real fast? The tandoori chicken was dry and flavorless. the vegetable assortment had its highs adn lows. i thought the chana masala was really good, but the other stuff was hit and miss. In addition we never got any of the samosa we had, but when we finally got our meal i was too hungry to even bother. The rice was very good. the bread basket which we finally got after reminding them was good too, with one exception. there was some hard grainy odd stuff on the bottom of some pieces that was gritty and weird tasting. i'm not sure what it was. To end on a positive note the wait staff was all apologetic about the wait (once they realized we still hadn't been served they got more apologetic), and gave us free tea and some sort of yogurt drink that i didn't like but the thought was nice. I may try the place again because i have this feeling that it was an off night, but I wouldn't order the tandoori chicken, maybe the chicken tikka masala. read more

I was really hoping to like this food. We ordered some Indian dishes, tikka masala, saag, and a few others delivered. I didn't expect it to be great but it was really bad. The sauces were thin and the little meat that was in the meals was gristly. On top of that it was really expensive. I really hate to give bad reviews but I hope this will help the owners work to improve. If you have hankering for Indian food go to Jewel of India which is the best of the best. The owners of Ghar-E-Kabab should check it out too and maybe learn something. read more

We went to Ghar-E-Kabab a long time ago, and unless my memory is mistaken I remember I had a Nepalese thali that I really enjoyed. On that occasion, the server took the time to explain each little dish. On our more recent visit I tried the non-vegetarian thali and I was not impressed by it or anything else my party ordered (chicken vindaloo, Ghar-e-Kabab platter). The vindaloo was not very spicy and didn't seem to have much/any tomato in the sauce so the overall effect was bland and watery. Palak (saag) paneer was one of the dishes in my thali and it was frankly bad. I didn't try my husband's grilled combo, but they were out of shrimp and asked if it was ok to substitute grilled paneer--which is ok, no doubt Snowzilla has messed with deliveries/inventory, but I think they should have knocked a couple bucks off the $27 price if they have to substitute something expensive like jumbo shrimp with something relatively inexpensive like paneer. To top it all off, the kitchen was quite slow (on a Thursday night), and although they have two dining rooms they seated all the sit-down traffic in the room by the door and the carry-out traffic coming in and out made for a cold, drafty atmosphere. All in all, a very sub-par dining experience. Bombay Gaylord was only every just a middling Indian restaurant, but they beat this place hands down and I hope they reopen at some point just because it's nice to have a decent Indian place that's right in the neighborhood. read more

The lunch buffet is phenomenal! Hardly to believe they serve lamb, chicken, beans and so many more only at $9.99. I would recommend their lamb and dessert during the lunch time. I'm Indian, so I'm not always entirely thrilled by eating at an indian restaurant. For the last year I've been walking by Gar-E-Kabab everyday on the way to the gym and never walked in but was curious since their sign mentioned organic food. Finally my brother went is now a regular, as am I. I LOVE THIS PLACE. Their food is fresh and healthier tasting than most indian restaurants. Their breads and curries are wonderful, not greasy and not overly salty. My favorite dish is the Chicken Saag. I've never had better Chicken Saag anywhere. I'm looking forward to going there for their buffet. I hear it's just as good as ordering individual dishes if not better because you can have as much of everything as you want. read more

Really good food. Delivery was right on time. Who else'll deliver Indian in the Spring. Their chicken was juicy and not dried out, like most Indian places. The lamb dishes were great also. Everything could have been spicier though, but this area seems to cater to lactards, gluetards, meatarts, and spicetards. If I were those people I would just stop eating and die already. However..I enjoyed the dishes, but they were very skimpy with the sauces that were $2.50 for a little sauce cup. AMAZING! I was concerned about the 3 stars but decided to try it out for myself. My best friend and I ordered curried lamb (so moist and tender) and the chicken tikki (also delicious). This place is good, the food is good however, you never know what's on the lunch buffet. I only go for the buffet at lunch and prefer the goat curry. The reason I'm giving 3 stars. This could resultsolved if they would just post on they're website, what's on the buffet. The could even have a set menu for every day. Just frustrating to go up there and there is no goat curry. The last time they had Goat Curry was 12, April 2019. I always stop by to see if they have it on the buffet and it has been a major disappointment that they haven't had it, going on three weeks now. Gotta admit, this is another one of the restaurants that I know only from delivery experience. However, it has to be said that it's always been damn fine delivery - fairly prompt, still hot, and relatively large portions of exactly what I ordered. I should also admit that when we've ordered we haven't exactly been adventurous - mostly naan, tikka masala, rogan josh, and some of the saag dishes - however all the dishes have been very tasty. Even my wife, who is not a big fan of indian cuisine, enjoys ordering from these guys. One of these days we'll actually dine in, but until then I'm happy seeing the guy show up on the doorstep with a bag of tikka masala and saag paneer. One of my favorite places in DTSS! Now, some might argue that a good service can save a bad meal. I totally disagreed. If I am enjoying my meal, then I won't be to critical of the service. At Ghar-E-Kabab food is consistently above average, and that's good for our current (neighborhood) restaurant scene. It is true that service can be slow, or you could be interrupted way too many times by restaurant personnel. I also remember one time when I had to look for someone to bring our check after asking for it 20 minutes ago, but from my point of view, if the food is good, then I can tolerate an okay service, but once again that's just me. I've ordered Vindaloo from here a few times, and each time I begged them to make it spicier than the last, but after 6 or 7 attempts, it never even approached the proper levels of heat, so I've given up ordering this dish. If you want Indian food with minimal spice, such as a Chicken Tikka Masala, Ghar-e-Kabab is acceptable. But stay away from anything that requires more spice, such as Vindaloo or even Biryani, as the chefs do not seem to be able to do these dishes justice read more

What a delight finding Ghar-E-Kabab was upon moving to Silver Spring. Our food was delicious--we shared the vegetable momos, chicken saag and the aloo tama The chicken saag was very tasty, with generous portions of meat and perfectly creamy spinach. The aloo tama was a very pleasant surprise, as I had never had it before. Wonderfully complex and slightly spicy, the bamboo shoots and black-eyed beans were a great combination. The only iffy part of the meal were the momos. I just couldn't shake the feeling that they were frozen and microwaved. They tasted alright, but the pastry had a slightly rubbery texture. Ghar-e-Kabab, while it has its moments, just isn't worth the gamble. As a relatively unique add on to the areas delivery food options, it had promise- but the actual experience was far from rewarding. The food here is somewhat pricey- which isn't that much of a big deal, considering what you pay for Indian cuisine elsewhere around here- but the prices became just too high for the quality of what you get. I've had it all happen to me, here: undercooked meat in my curry, dark and stringy mystery parts of chicken which crunched when they shouldn't have, tandoori chicken (which had almost no meat on it at all) on which the actual tandoori spice/ sauce was virtually nonexistent, or charred to the point it might as well not be there. I've had food arrive at my home lukewarm, I have had rice which was definitely sitting out or not cooked long enough, lamb sausage which tasted- and felt- like it'd been sitting under a heating lamp. The food wasn't all bad, but when I've ordered it, it's been a game of roulette! But the one thing which was really irritating was the delivery issue. One evening, I decided to order in, so I placed my order online, got a receipt email, and waited. An hour and a half later, my food had not arrived. I called the restaurant, and was told, without preamble, that my order had arrived- but I was outside the delivery area. I was confused; apparently, the fact that they'd delivered to my home multiple times over the previous few weeks had no bearings- in fact, the man refused to acknowledge that. He said I'd always been outside the area. He then told me that my order was ready, and to come pick it up. When I told him that I couldn't- hence, delivery- he started to give me attitude, huffing and puffing- especially when I asked that he cancel the transaction on my credit card. Bottom Line: When you factor in the prices, versus never knowing what you're going to get, Ghar-e-Kebab is just not worth the chance read more

Sunday lunch with a Groupon is reasonable, but next time, I might go for the buffet. At least you can see what you're paying for. The lunch menu seems to be the same as the dinner (i.e., same prices). And while the dishes were incredibly flavorful and wonderfully spiced, for a very small bowl of Vegetable Kofta comprised of frozen bagged veggies (telltale "cubes" and "ripple-cut" carrots), $13.99 is just too much to ask. If you are going to promote your restaurant as a distinctive and first-rate dining experience (with prices to match), do not embarass me or yourselves by putting pre-packaged ingredients on my plate. Sorry for the rant, but this is a pet peeve of mine. Be HONEST about your product and your philosophy. There's nothing wrong with frozen veggies, as long as I'm not being asked to pay "fresh from the garden" prices for them, ok? I had my order delivered so I can't speak to the dining experience at the restaurant itself. -1 star because of the really high prices; -1 star because they didn't get my order correct. I won't knock a star off the review based on the taste of the food though I am tempted to on the basis of their very small portions for the price. I ordered Butter Chicken but was delivered Chicken Tikka Masala instead. The dish was good and tasty but not spicy at all. I didn't mind the portion size for the chicken but my side of rice was ridiculously small. Rice isn't expensive to begin with, so why be so stingy with it? I've seen this restaurant for quite some time now, but the outside did not look all that appealing. On Friday, I clicked on the Open Table app and Ghar-E-Kabab popped up, so I figured we should give it a try. I am really glad that we did. The restaurant is a lot nicer looking on the inside than you would expect from the street view. It actually seemed a bit fancy. The service was outstanding. For me, drink service either makes or breaks an experience, especially if you're eating something spicy. My water glass was never empty. We started with the Chili Pakora. Delicious with a bit of a kick. I then had the chicken tikka, and my dining partner had the lamb vindaloo. Both of us we very happy with our meals. As a side, we had an order of naan and garlic naan. I'll start by saying I am not expert about Indian food, but I know good flavor and preparation when I see it and taste it. GEK has it. I have only done delivery, so any comments I may have should bear that in mind. Tandoori chicken, lamb kabobs, and the side chutneys are wonderful. But the serving size of the chutneys and condiments are so small, it's hard to use it properly. And, as delicious as the Naan is, it is too expensive. A peice of naan seems like it should be included in a cuisine that is so sauce driven. I had a lamb curry dish which was as good as a fine dining establishment would produce, but the delivery portion was miniscule and not inexpensive. I know, I should go in person and see what they do up close and personal. But I also think that if they choose to deliver, they should deliver a heartier product. I tried phoning the restaurant, but they didn't answer. Even the Grubhub representative got no response. Ok, I have had 3 different entrees at this spot and I'm gonna say that they were just ok. I have two Indian friends (females, both mothers in their 50s) that absolutely love this place and say it is more like home cooking Indian than the stuff we have come to know as Indian food. Even when I had an Indian exchange student live with me for a year, he would always tell me when we ate out that what we were eating was not "everyday Indian", if you will. Now, I'm gonna make a big disclaimer to this review and that would be that I did not, I repeat, I did not have the kabobs and rightly so, that may be where the genius lies in the restaurant so I would not discourage anyone from checking it out. In a pinch... and i mean a really bad pinch... this place will do. i went in there by myself once after a hard day of shopping and asked for a table of one. Once i sat down... I was forgotten for about 10 mins. Its not that big a place, but clearly I wasn't as important as the other two parties there. After taking my order, it was long time before my food was ready. I'm Indian and I've eaten in a lot of Indian restaurants. I know how long it takes to cook things, especially when you have most of the stuff ready already. The food when it came out had no real spice to it. i prefer my food spicy and even asked for it to be cooked spicy, so I was pretty disappointed that it was so bland. Ok (2 weeks later) I had Ghar-E-Kabab delivered to my house. Awesome town. Cons-It took a long time to get here. Over an hour, the lady I talked to on the phone (who was actually the person I was handed off to) had a little trouble understanding me; BUT we got everything was right with the order, which is more than I can say for some of the people working at say...Starbucks. Pros-There was no additional charge for delivery, just the guilt I might feel for not giving the guy a tip (I know what you're thinking, I gave him 8 bucks, so there). Also, the food was piping hot. Went here with a friend late on a Sunday evening since we were craving some Indian food. It is quite small, but the ambience is definitely a step above many Indian restaurants. Ghar-E-Kabab lacks the ridiculous decorations and blaring music in many Indian restaurants that constantly remind you that you are eating at an Indian restaurant. We ordered the chicken Momo appetizer and a bread basket to share. My entree was the tandoori shrimp and my friend decided on the lamb vindaloo. First we were offered an amuse bouche of some crisps with a three different chutneys, all of which were very good. Having never even heard of Momo before (apparently it is Nepalese), we were both pleasantly delighted by the gyoza-like morsels and the delicious sauce served on the side. Likewise the bread basket offered up a satisfying array of warm and freshly-made naan, roti, and paratha. Regarding the entrees, I have to say my tandoori shrimp was a bit of a let down. Besides the fact that the dish only came with 5 shrimp (for $18 I had expected a bit more), I also found the flavor to be a tad bland. My friend's lamb vindaloo, however, was very good. I enjoyed taking a few pieces of the bread basket and soaking up the vindaloo curry at the end. With the exception of my shrimp entree, the food was definitely superior to most Indian restaurants at which I've eaten. Service was average-- I don't remember much about the service, so I guess that could be looked at as a good thing. As soon as you step into this quaint and cozy restaurant curry fills your nostrils, not in an overwhelming way, just in that "I can't wait to get a fork-full" way. I had dinner here last night, and for a Wednesday it was surprising that the place would have as many people as it did, nearly full. The waiter was personable, funny and knew his stuff. He even passed my test question of "should I get entree A or entree B" by describing what each option had to offer and then asking what I was in the mood for. When the organic wine came out, the waitress had a bit of trouble opening the bottle, which gave a few people a light-hearted laugh, adding to the ease of the place (even with it's professional demeanor). The only bad thing that I have to say about the place, is the pushing of the naan bread (apologies if spelled incorrectly). They asked if we would like some with our meal, which I assumed would come with, just to find out that it is $6 for the two orders of naan that we didnt even eat. The naan was a bit burned and you couldnt even taste the garlic/ cheese on it. The other food, however, was great! You must try their vegetable dishes and mango drinks. The serving-ware was classic Indian/Nepalese beautiful, and the ambiance of the place was very nice. I will definitely go back, minus the naan bread, but with to over-flowing glasses of the mango- yogurt concoction. read more

One of the best Indian restaurants in the neighborhood, no doubt. I am a big Bombay Gaylord fan, but have eaten here a few times, and have never been disappointed. Excellent chicken tikka masala, LOVE the rogan josh, and the baigan bhartha (eggplant). Sag paneer, fantastic as well. And the samosas are really well-spiced! Last time, we got the assorted bread basket which is a bit pricey at $7, but there's some good stuff, especially the garlic naan. The potato stuffed variety didn't really do anything for me. My go-to for Indian take out and delivery. The chicken Korma is creamy and delicious. I regularly order the Indian style okra, which is slightly spicy and great that night and for leftovers. I went there the other night and had a thali, which seemed very popular with the other people in the restaurant. It's a sample of small portions of 7 different things, and comes with roti and rice. Also includes dessert, which in my case was rice pudding. A lot of Indian food I've had in other restaurants came out a little greasy or overdone, but everything I had at Ghar-E-Kabab was really well cooked and had a clean, fresh flavor. I haven't had Indian/Nepalese like this anywhere else. The food took a little time to get out, but they were pretty full at the time. I'll be honest. The largest reason this place is a 4 and not a 3 is because they deliver. And any Indian restaurant that will let me eat my Saag Paneer without having to change out of my sweatpants I'm automatically a fan of. :) That said, the food is very reasonable and I have very little reason to complain. There just really isn't anything exceptional about it. The Saag Paneer is well done and seasoned well and the cheese is fresh and firm. The chicken curry was quite spicy, but not too spicy and still yummy. I will say that I was really pleased by the tomato soup. That was definitely a real treat and something I will order again and perhaps try to duplicate. If I were going into Silver Spring, I don't know that this would be my first choice for Indian food, but sitting at home watching American Idol? It will ALWAYS be my go-to. :) read more
