Webpass from Google Fiber
Young Y.

Got fed-up with Wave G's surprise charges every month and switched to Google Webpass. Transition was seamless and VERY nice. So happy I made the switch and speed test showed much faster Mbps download/upload speeds than what I had with Wave G's 1gb service. If your building offers WebPass: I'd recommend it over Wave G and any other service. It nets out to $46 a month if you pay upfront for 1 year ($550 annually), no surprise fees, and it's REALLY fast. Customer Service: Very available and helpful. Technician (Jorge) came exactly at 9am, set-up for 5 minutes, and I was up and running. I scheduled ~2 weeks in advance to wait for the end of my billing cycle with Wave G to transition to Webpass. Seamless process. Internet: SUPER fast. I'm connected wirelessly and my speed tests showed me at 490 Mbps download. Wave G was at 125 Mbps for me. Price: Cheapest option out there if you take the $550 annual payment for 1 year. It's the best. Otherwise it's $60/month but you won't get surprise fees like you do w/Wave. Feel free to reach out if you have questions - esp. if you're moving to Seattle. Happy to provide my honest feedback. TIPS I found online that I think may help. I'm no tech guy but I read this is important. Router - you need one compatible w/high speeds. Dual band AC wireless router w/gigabit Ethernet ports. That will help w/speeds. Modem - You do not need since you connect to the internet directly into the wall. Ethernet Cable - get a Cat6 cable if you're wired up. It'll help w/speeds.

This crappy service disconnects dozens of times each day, every day. Going back to Comcast.

HiTek Telecom - Where the mounting of the Unifi switches went. Looks super professional!

I contacted Alee with HiTek Telecom to get a quote on a complete network job for my home. Not only do my spouse that I work from home, but I also do a lot of photography and video that I transfer back-and-forth on my network and into the cloud. I was tired of poor and drop connections with my consumer level Wi-Fi system. In addition, I wanted a local security camera system that I can control without relying on a cloud service. After receiving a quote and agreeing on the scope of work, I scheduled the installation. Alee came out on time on the date scheduled and we walked through the plan of installation and confirmed what all my needs were. Alee and his team worked through the day and completed the install job in an incredibly professional manner. The installation and the cable runs, and all of the final product was exactly as described. After the install, Alee walked me through downloading all of the software that I needed, how to access and navigate the system, how to navigate and operate the security cameras, and ensure that everything was working properly. To be sure, this was a relatively large install for a residential application. I wanted ethernet drops in every room of my house, a new professional grade network cabinet, in-ceiling WIFi network, and a new suite of security cameras. I couldn't have asked for a better end product. I am quite pleased with the attention to detail of the install and making sure everything was perfect, workmanlike, and care was taken in my home. Alee came back out to adjust a couple of things for me after the fact and install an additional camera. Again, he was on time on the scheduled day. The workmanship was just as good and the communication has been stellar throughout. I truly can't recommend HiTek and Alee enough. Top-notch product and top-notch service.

Cascadelink - My typical speeds on the Gigabit offering from CascadeLink

Since then I've had a few outages at night…read more Unfortunately, support is onoy open during daytimes house with what they call "on call service after hours." I don't know what that means, but no one responds after 5pm on some days. If you leave a message after hours they don't return the call. I called the other evening and the line was forward to a number in area code 610 that would not take messages. We were told how great it would nbe to be sold to WAVE because of their greater resources. One would think that after a year they would at least have Wave respond to support. Another interesting thing. We had to enter all our account information from Cascade Link's invoices into the new system. Why do I need to transfer my account? Service is generally good, but if there is a problem, there is no one to respond outside of business hours. That is just not acceptable for an internet business!

The speed is great and was way faster and more consistent than Comcast. BUT all of that is negated by occasional shutdowns of internet where you can't even call customer support! Happened today and I'm sad to see this is a frequent occasion. Of all days, it happens when I'm working from home. Now I got to make up the hours on the weekend...awesome. In Cap Hill, if you want to pay $10/month less for reliable internet, go with Comcast. I had them last month, thought I'd try out CascadeLink for it's marginally faster connection, but will surely be returning to Comcast. Comcast has its own problems, but at least I can rely on internet working when I need it. tldr: Do NOT sign up with the service unless you're ready for frequent surprise internet shut downs. Comcast is more reliable, cheaper, currently offering around 70 Mbps for $40/month vs. Cascades 30Mbps for $50/month

Sometimes it goes down, but not too often. But their billing is disguising. In a few years, they raised my internet price from $40 to $170. Apparently, their billing support is located somewhere in India, because reps can barely speak comprehensible English. When I called their billing first time - they told me "I'm using too much data" (no unlimited internet in 2025!), so they charge me $50+ / month for data usage, but, as a courtesy, they will limit my bill from 170 to 120. I had to call them few times, and the only thing helped is mentioning that Starlink offers unlimited internet for the same $120. Even then, their rep was either unable doing basic math (something like $65+$25 = $90), or unwilling doing so. Eventually, after a half of an hour of yelling at a rep, I had my price lowered to the same $120 for an unlimited 1 GBit internet - on a condition I will return their modem and router. Unless you have a personal dislike of Elon, consider Starlink. Astound is absolutely the worst rip-off I ever experienced.

So I pay $120 a month (new customers pay $40 and get a free modem) for service. And good luck calling phone support. It's AI that remotely resets your modem, tells you to go online for any other help, and hangs up on you. And if you DO go online and activate chat, and wait over an hour for support, the chat agent will again reset your modem. What happens then? You're kicked out of the chat. It's a nightmare. I just want internet. I'm happy to pay for it. But I run a business from home and this isn't a reliable provider.

I'd recommend Shawn to anyone: his knowledge, efficiency, customer engagement, and outcomes…read moredelivered are outstanding. He's a networking and IT superstar. Costs: If you are upgrading your home network or other capability, and need to buy new/more gear, Shawn doesn't charge a markup on the equipment. In fact, once he's designed your solution he will provide you with links to the exact products required and let you buy them directly from the vendors if desired. Or he'll buy them himself and present you with the receipts. Hourly rate: With the skills Shawn possesses, his hourly rate is substantial. And it should be. However, you can still bring your project in at a very reasonable cost PROVIDED you can be a smart customer. By this I mean you must be clear on the capabilities you want to achieve--or at least be able to listen to Shawn describe what's possible and then make rapid decisions. If instead you want a lot of customer education, Shawn can do that too because he knows an immense amount about IT and can communicate effectively. However, it's a bit like paying for a neurosurgeon to teach you about the types of aspirin available to treat a headache. That doesn't make sense; get a nurse instead! In my case, my wife and I work from the house. My goals were to increase the reliability of our home network. We wanted better maintainability (so when the internet goes down I can rapidly identify the problem and fix it). We wanted better network security. I wanted to add a home security camera because of problems with car prowls, etc. And finally, I wanted to move our networking gear out of our super-hot furnace room to a cooler and cleaner location. This was a lot. Other vendors had previously failed to come up with an affordable solution--or any solution at all. Shawn showed us how to do it for a very reasonable sum. Once we had a plan, I was able to control costs by getting a carpenter friend to open up the wall and pull wires through to the new location for the gear. Shawn also kept costs down by allowing me to provide extra hands as he mounted gear on the wall, connected all of our wireless access points to the new console, etc. These steps all require two people. Shawn was willing to let me help and he even maintained a high level of wit and good-natured ribbing throoughout the long day of work. In sum: great outcome, great satisfaction, great price.
