We chose Black River because they only do generator installation and maintenance. They shared examples of their learnings over the past 10 years, which helped them choose the best parts for the generator installation- and our research validated their choices 100%. They will also service the generator after installation. Work was done exactly as described and ahead of schedule; it passed the town's inspections (scheduled by Chris team) immediately. TOP TWO of all contractors we have worked with on our total house renovation. HIGHLY recommend.

He came up with a plan that made better sense than what I had suggested AND would be less visible. Plus it avoided having to have PPL involved. He and his helper were able to get out work done in a far more practical manner, and with added features for safety than what we originally requested. Great work. On top of that Phil is a very very nice man, took special care to avoid tracking up any area of the house and was very interesting and informative to converse with. Great guy. A two day job BUY excellent workmanship and a very fair price. I won't hesitate to have him return to make some additional changes to electrical touting in our house. 5 Star service!!!! Thanks Phil

I hired Turcios to finish installing some smart light switches that I was tired of working through…read moremyself. They texted back right away on a Sunday, and they were available the next day. The crew was pretty typical - one guy spoke English, translating for the other guy who spoke Spanish. They spent almost two hours troubleshooting a 4-way smart switch that wasn't behaving, installing 8 smart switches that I provided, and replacing some really cheap junction boxes that were cracked and no longer reusable. The price was on the high side. Not the highest, but it was $150 for the first 30 minutes, then $25 per smart switch, along with extra to replace the junction boxes (which I agreed needed it). But despite my repeated instructions, one set of 3 switches didn't end up in the order I asked for, which I only realized when they left. They also left packaging trash in my recycling bin and stacked discarded switches on my dinner table without asking first. Also one of the wall plates was not installed parallel to the wall. I'm not sure I'd go with them again unless they were the only ones available.

Lou Zimick is an extremely professional and capable electrician in my experience. He is also a…read moregentleman. Let me give you an example - Lou met me at house in Englewood for an estimate on several electrical problems that needed to be fixed. His examination was very thorough and also quite efficient. He took less time than I expected and he found other problems that needed to be addressed. By the way, getting the written estimate didn't take days either which is a very big plus. He's also considerate. When a contractor says he'll be there at, for example, 9 am what usually happens? You wait and wait and wait. Not with Lou. He comes on time and if he is running late, he calls to apologize and tell you how late he'll be. The truth is that contractors budget time for a job and sometimes when they get there discover it needs more time. So they can get delayed. Lou doesn't leave you hanging in the wind - he calls to say he's sorry and this is now when he'll be to you. He appreciates your business and doesn't abuse your time. Isn't this great? So Lou Zimick gets a As Good As It Gets from me for being a terrific electrician with excellent customer service.

They did good work, but be sure to ask for the cost of parts upfront with your estimate and look up…read morethe price of the parts before you get the work done so you don't have a huge surprise when the price changes considerably due to parts after the work is done... they unexpectedly billed me for 4 times the price of the exact same dimmer switches that you can buy from Home Depot cheaply. If I was told the cost of the parts needed upfront in the initial estimate, I would have supplied them myself. Yet when I suggested supplying parts myself they refused to do more work. I won't use them again.

On the other contracting how impressed we were with the technical support we received from Mike…read more Mike is in my opinion a great ambassador for your company. Mike was prompt, very friendly, a great listener, and was able to solve the problem that prevented our generator from turning on when the power failed yesterday. On the other hand, to management, there is a problem with your established protocol. Let me explain, we purchased the Cummins generator from you in January, see my write-up of February 10, 2021. We opted for the top-of-the-line service and warranty program you offered. Yet we had to sign a sophomoric promissory note that we would pay for the service call before a service personnel would be sent out to repair our newly purchased generator. This exercise was a stupid and unnecessary action on your part that has left us wondering should we recommend your company to our neighbors. Management should reconsider that if a customer has purchased the top-of-line service contract you should trust us to pay if warranted.
