Spent almost $50 on candies and treats, and firstly all of the "bulk" candy was clearly stale and had been out for a long time. My partner and I also purchased treats called "thin mints" (which any google search would tell you thin mints = girl scout style cookie treat) but when we opened them at home they were peppermint patties, a completely different treat and not something either of us like. We went back today to see if we had been given the wrong thing or if they could help us, and the woman there (assuming she was the owner/manager by her demeanor) was so so unprofessional and dismissive! We walked in and no one greeted us, the "owner" woman was at the register on her cell phone talking and turned away from us upon walking in. After a few minutes a young girl came out and helped us, so I explained the miscommunication the day before. The owner (note, she was also in the store the day before during our initial transaction) interrupted to explain in a pretty condescending way that they meant something different by "thin mints" and that we clearly did not know. She then got back on her phone and turned her back, clearly did not care that a customer was unhappy. I explained to her employee that this was clearly a miscommunication and can they help us with switching to a candy we like or give us a refund, and she quickly refused and offered no other path to making the situation right. So disappointing to want to support a small business, just to realize they completely don't care about what they are selling or who they are selling to. Seriously, go to the Head Nut candy shop in town instead.

It's in cute, little downtown Newtown, tucked away near Pat's Colonial Kitchen, a homey, breakfast brunch spot. They carry some ol'school candies like Fruit Stripe gum, Whatchamacallits(I had no idea they still made those), along with assorted chock's and candies by the pound..enough variety to make everyone happy. i'm regularly in Newtown, but this was the first time i stumbled upon this little sweet spot..if you have a craving and happen to be nearby then this spot is for you.

We wish them great success there! I mention its neighbor because that is the way I first noticed this shop set back from the street. I came out of Duck Sauce and walking on the covered front porch I noticed the new store and went in to have a look. I didn't know that homemade chocolate would taste so good after a good spicy Asian meal, but it did! In fact, I suggest that these owners talk to each other and start to cross market their goods. A little chocolate delivered with the lunch or dinner bill would be a great touch (and better than the Andes Mints). A discount coupon for a quality Chinese or Thai repast with the purchase of $10. worth of candy, would also be a hot commodity. Maybe they are already doing that, but I did not see it. Come talk to me. S/P is a veritable wonderland of sweets set in a well appointed comfortable setting. Made to look "country," it succeeds in taking you away from the world outside and dropping you into a childhood daydream. Hard not to smile and salivate when looking at the enormity of the collection here, and reminiscing about those candies you craved as a kid. Yes. It is a little decadent, but it is so innocent that no one will turn you in to the diet police.

They also sell candy that is not made there that they buy and then bag themselves. They always have cute holiday stuff like candy. They're peanut butter chocolate cups, whether their hearts or whatever they're making at the time are the best ones I have ever had in my entire life. Whenever I go somewhere, I bring this candy as a hostess gift. It's really nice that when you buy a box of chocolates there, they will wrap it at no additional charge or you could buy pre-wrapped ones with their pre-selected candies however I prefer to pick out my own candies now because I know what I like and I don't like. I really don't even buy chocolate candy at the stores anymore. I just go there and buy it. Their chocolate covered pretzels are really good. I don't like milk chocolate so I like to buy the dark chocolate and the chocolatier that they get their chocolate from is a good one. There are tinfoil wrapped candies, while they don't make them there, It is from the same chocolate chocolatier that is made by that company and they order it. They offer sugar-free candy so really anybody can get candy from here and enjoy it. The candy they sell in the stores like Kitcat and all these other candies. It's such a small percentage of chocolate that it's waxy and gross. You will not find that here. You will find what chocolate should truly do that. It melt in your mouth as you eat it.

Chloe was very kind and she knew the history behind a marshmallow caramel chocolate that they sell, especially at this confectionary. Another thing I like to pick up is one of their gingerbread cookies. They are hand pressed and I just feel so spoiled to get to enjoy this beautiful and very special cookie. The old fashion candy store has every kind of nostalgic candy and takes it back to childhood. The old fashion soda fountain where you can get an egg cream, many varieties of side made to order and now during the holidays you can get HOMEMADE hot cocoa made with REAL cream!! I got the peppermint stick and my friend got the plain. This was some of the best hot cocoa I have ever had!! Every whet you look it is like time stands still. All the A TREAT sodas on the wall in every flavor and coca colas are in glass bottles. The signage and decorations are all antiques. Even the servers are dressed like the 1950s and are super friendly and do everything they can to make your experience amazing!! I would love to give a higher rating but in this old building ACCESSIBILTY is nonexistent. Every person regardless of disability should be able to enjoy this sweet shop. I hope the owners consider putting in a ramp of some sort or get rid of the stairs. Thanks for a memorable step back in time.
