When looking for something unique to Pennsylvania when to bringing gifts to friends that are out of state or overseas, Asher's has always been my go-to place for chocolate-covered pretzels. The quality of chocolate coming out of Asher's is top-notch and many people I know enjoy it because the taste of chocolate is strong without being overly sweet. The prices are quite reasonable. If you don't care about the presentation, you can buy the bags of loose chocolates on their shelves for a cheaper price. They offer seasonal specials and occasional sales, so it's wise to ask what specials they're offering that day. The store front is the main area to shop from, but you may be able to sign-up for the tours and view the chocolate production process yourself, which I've participated in and enjoyed in the past. read more

Asher's chocolates has been in business since 1892. This makes them one of the oldest running chocolate businesses in the country. Asher's is still considered a family run business. They take a lot of pride in their products. The raw cocoa beans are made and processed at a plant not too far away, and the liquid chocolate is transported on a truck similar in size to a fuel tank truck to the production factory here in Souderton, PA. Very detailed and meticulous care is followed. From aseptic techniques to make sure all machines are impeccably clean to strict quality control measures to ensure consistency in the quality of each product. All shipments are sent out from the plant, all over the country. Careful supply chain management is followed to make sure every batch is freshly made before shipping. Asher's has a great reputation for quality chocolates. Very hard to compare to others on the market. You will always find Asher's at department stores and specialty confectioners. The minute you walk into this store you are quickly transported back to childhood as you inhale the sweet smell of chocolate. Allow yourself plenty of browsing time, as there is much to so much to see! I went in looking for the perfect hostess gift for Thanksgiving and had many wonderful options. Been having it my whole life and didn't even know it! Went on a tour recently and met one of the Ashers. Was surprised by how regimented and organized, this family business was. I guess you never think about what happens at the chocolate factory only what's in your hands! This Asher was very knowledgeable and friendly to all of us that had questions. The rest of the staff was kind as well, from the line workers changing the machinery settings, to the ladies separating and boxing the various items, to the cashiers. Very much have the vibe of a family business. I would highly recommend checking out their chocolates, honestly the coconut clusters are addictive! Also enjoyed the chocolate covered pretzels and bars. Was nice to support a Pennsylvania business & they seem to be involved in the area (with events--beer gardens and the like) read more

Really fun place to visit. The tour is self guided. So you basically just watch different videos and look inside the windows is the factory. Nothing too great. But the candy....the candy is amazing. The pecan paws are probably the best candies I've ever eaten. Definitely worth a visit. read more

I give them a 2 star review. The candy rates a 5, but the customer service on their best day is a 1. I placed an order this morning, a gift, and specified where it was to be shipped (Illinois). Paying with PayPal, when PayPal returned me to Asher's web site, the shipping address had been changed to my address. At that time the sale was complete, no opportunity to review and make changes. I will say, PayPal returning my address to the web site is not Asher's fault. Here's my problem: I have called 3 times, leaving a message each time, trying to get someone to talk with to resolve the shipping address issue. As I write this, I've been waiting for just under 5 hours for that phone call! I'd cancel the order if someone would answer the phone or call me back! Totally irresponsible way to do business. read more

I would not have ever ordered this if I knew I was going to end up with plastic bags, a large cardboard box, sheets of heavy duty bubble wrap, a large freezing bag, and a huge Styrofoam box. Ashers is the best!! Growing up 2 minutes down Allentown Road, I always came here to get chocolate and other sweets! While I unfortunately never have had the chance to go on the tour (yet at least), I have been to the shop plenty of times. There's so much to look at and to discover, not even I have tried it all yet! My personal favorite is the Nonpareils, the best I ever had. The different chocolates and sweets also make for good gifts for the holidays, they get shipped all over!! The factory/store is located off of Allentown Road and sits on Wambold and Schoolhouse Road. It has decent parking and is located very close to the turnpike too! It's crazy to think I grew up so close to an awesome chocolate factory, and I know it will continue to be a staple for years. Standard candy, but unfortunately, after a long drive to get there, not particularly special-tasting. There was nothing of a small candy store taste to these for us. Had we known this was a plant/factory as opposed to a little 'ol candy shop, we wouldn't have made the trip. The candy made at small, family businesses (like Stutz Candies in Hatboro and Warrington, or Bevan's in Media) is a lot more handmade tasting, seems more fresh, and definitely tastes a lot better. Those other places make candy that is a special treat for us, but Asher's big-factory style candy was on par with what you get in a box of at the drug store, just as processed and preserved-tasting, except a lot more expensive. Asher's Chocolate factory gave me the best chocolates ever. when I had a strawberry chocolate I normally have to much strawberry flavor or to little flavor but Asher's brought me the perfect flavor and it has such a strong smell but it smelled and tasted so good. The price of the seconds cannot be beat. And, I am not sure that I would call a piece of chocolate with an "extra" dollop of chocolate on it a mistake - I call that a bonus! The selection of seconds varies a lot from day to day. But, they have firsts if you simply must have a particular type of chocolate. If you like a super bargain, go there a month after a big holiday. I have been there a month after Easter and they have first run chocolate eggs for 90% off. Of course, the varieties are limited but, you could end up with an incredible bargain. read more

Whenever my family and I are visiting relatives in Souderton, we always make it a point to visit Asher's for a few treats to have during our trip (and also a few presents to take home to friends in California). Some of my favorites are their dark chocolate covered pretzels and graham crackers. I have always been a big fan of Ashers! From the time I was younger, my grandparents would take us there every time we came to visit to pick out special treats, so it holds a special place in my heart. I think it's a great little store with a wonderful group of employees. I like that you can go on a little tour and see the chocolates being made. Every time I come to visit, it's a must that we stop even if she just pick up a few pieces of candy for the hour ride home. They also ship which is wonderful to be able to share Ashers with my family in Florida who might not otherwise get to indulge.
