This place is cute and their food is solid, but unfortunately I had a couple of uncomfortable moments with staff, where I felt they weren't very professional. Since there are many options for Italian food in this neighborhood, I will not be returning. However, if you've wanted to go here, do it! Like I said, there food was good, and their seating in the back is pretty. Note, on busy nights, you won't get great service. My brother and his girlfriend are here often, so they made a reservation for us while we were visiting. They seated us out in the back in the greenhouse area, which was perfect as the weather was great that evening. Our kids split the spaghetti lemon and I had the seasonal papardelle. Delicious variety of veggies and super fresh pasta. Fresh and tasty throughout. My brother got the roasted chicken and it was MASSIVE and tasty, on a bed of mashed potatoes. First off, I LOVE the ambiance of this place. The greenhouse in the back is so gorgeous, and the inside is very intimate. I love going here for a date night, and will probably do my birthday dinner here. The owners are sweet and I've never had an issue with service being friendly & quick even when it's slammed. the Cacio e Pepe is amazing, and while I'm not usually a huge fan of pasta al limone, my boyfriend loves it and I always find myself sneaking a few bites because they do it so well here. The bread and white beans they offer while you wait are also delicious. Portions are generous, I've had to take my pasta home more than once. They absolutely checked out vax status the multiple times we've been, and now that the mandates are lifting I feel the critical reviews about that should be taken with a grain (or shaker) of salt. read more

We came in with a large group for our friends birthday one night and had a really great time. The restaurant is pretty small but we were seated right away with our reservation. We got 2 bottles of wine and I really enjoyed the red chianti we got. To start they bring out bread with a bean salsa which was amazing. I couldnt stop eating it. It was super garlicky and I loved it! To eat I got the kale gnocchi with a tomato and garlic cream sauce. They were absolutely delicious! I highly recommend this dish! I also tried my boyfriends black linguini with calamari and it was also delicious! To end we got molton chocolate cakes which were delicious as well. I loved the fresh fruit it came with. Had a great meal here. My favorite item was the spaghetti alla limone covered with a tasty cloud of grated parmigiana reggiano. We shared the arugula, pear, Gorgonzola salad and the watermelon salad and both were excellent. I liked that my iced tea came in a smurf glass and that the plates didn't match - made me feel at home. The food here is amazing. The pasta is homemade and so fresh. I cannot go anywhere else for pasta anymore. The French toast was also delicious! The drinks are good but the ice cube is huge. This Valentine's day, my boyfriend and I decided that it was finally time to check out this Italian hot spot and booked our reservations three weeks in advance. The restaurant was jam packed! We lucked out by scoring a stand-along table in the corner by the window, but I could not help but feel sorry for the less fortunate patrons seated in a long row of tables, seemingly shoulder to shoulder. As the complimentary bread and bean dip in olive oil came out, I was all too ready to declare my love for Gersi. That dip was delish - perfectly garlicky, light kick of spice. Yum! Next, we decided to split two entrees and forego an appetizer. Scallops and saffron risotto: scallops were just ok - although tender and sweet, they were a bit sandy and needed to have been washed with a bit more care (no one enjoys that annoying crunch when biting down on food), and a squeeze of lemon would have improved them as well. The risotto was gummy, tough, and dry, and we ended up leaving most of it completely untouched. Huge bummer for a dish priced at $32. Lamb ragu pappardelle: although a slight improvement from the scallop dish, this entree left much to be desired as well. Pasta was super overcooked and thus mushy, and the sauce was flat and flavorless. Not once were we asked if we needed any Parmesan or freshly ground black pepper (or anything at all, for that matter). I could not help but get Chef Boyardee flashbacks from my college days with every bite of this dish. Unfortunately, the complimentary bread and dip was the highlight of the whole meal for us. Perhaps this was a one off night for Gersi with it being a busy Valentine's night, but I have a hard time believing that since the wait time here on any weekend night can easily exceed 45 minutes without reservations. I simply do not get what all the fuss is about. In a city like New York (or even just Brooklyn), there's much better Italian to be had. read more

Loves brunch here, everything was so so delicious. Vaccines were definitely checked before entering and the staff was very courteous and friendly. Ordered pancakes, French toast, eggs Benedict, bruschetta, eggs polenta, but the absolute best items were the house cured salmon and the aperol spritz! Was really looking forward to trying this place out, particularly because of the plethora of positive reviews on Yelp. However, this place is definitely not worth the trek from Manhattan, or honestly, even from the subway station. The service was abhorrent. First of all, we had about five different staff members waiting on our table - already a recipe for disastrous misunderstanding. We ordered appetizers fifteen minutes prior to ordering our drinks and entrees. After 30 minutes passed, we inquired about our appetizers. One of the servers nodded and said she would check on them. Ten minutes later, our entrees come out. We ask this new server about our missing appetizers, and he doesn't seem to know we had even ordered them. He left and another waiter dropped by, we asked again, and he flatly asked "well do you still want them?" We said yes. It took another 20 minutes before the appetizers came. We had also asked three separate servers for some more bread, and it never came. Finally, after we were done eating, yet another person came up to our table to ask how everything was. I uncomfortably had to explain the entire situation, trying to be polite but also direct that the situation was not acceptable for an NYC Italian restaurant. His response: "What do you want me to do?" I basically just stared at him, dumbfounded. Isn't it his job to figure out how to serve unhappy customers? He finally offered to remove the appetizers from our bill. I left feeling pretty crummy. Just not a good experience at all, and the flow of the meal was entirely off. Overall, there are so many better Italian restaurants. This is New York. I expect better. read more

I went with my spouse and my mother in law for a Thanksgiving dinner, for the first time we decided to do so not to cook all the typical food only for 3 people. The place is cozy. There was a lovely Italian waiter who was very informative, attentive and kind. The Thanksgiving menu was very nice. Very good panzanella, nice pumpkin soup, and a huge plate with turkey, stuffing, a bit undercooked Brussel sprouts, and warm (we like it hot!) but good sweet mashed potatoes. Great pumpkin pie! The prosecco we had as an aperitif was mediocre, the wine was nice but a bit overpriced for what it was (Rosso di Montalcino, not Brunello!). Definitely would considered this place an unassuming neighborhood gem. I lived in this area for many years and always wanted to visit and never went. Mainly due to laziness as this place was cash only (they take credit cards now.) So I decided to have dinner while I was in town with a friend. I was really blown away at how extensive the menu was which I really appreciated. I've been to other Italian spots in the neighborhood and wasn't particularly impressed with the menu. Anything Italian was on Gersi menu. We decided for starters to get the brussel sprouts and some other offers which was pretty good. We settled on the cacio pepe and papperdelle with bologense sauce. The portions were huge, hearty and tasty. We definitely had to get doggy bags. We decided to order some red wine and that was really tasty. We ended the night with some tiramisu. Now I will say....I'm a tiramisu stan. This tiramisu was 5/5. It was moist and you really got a taste of the espresso as well as the cream. PHENOMENAL. The only thing that was a little annoying was the outside seating which OBVIOUSLY is really out of their hands. So i will end this review by stating SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES! especially gems as these. Looking forward to coming here next time I'm in town. read more

Times I've visited Gersi: 1 Times I've ordered Gersi delivery via Caviar: 20+ No surprise I freaking love this place. The chicken and mashed potatoes with roasted tomato is the ultimate comfort food dish. Polenta? Perfectly crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, all the right fixin's on top. The double kale caesar and black kale panzanella salads are a wonderful addition to any meal (or a great meal itself if you want something lighter). The complimentary white bean dip they serve with bread? Mouth-watering. The one time I visited in person was for brunch where I enjoyed a lovely meal for brunch (with a tasty aperol spritz!) in their cute outdoor seating section in the back. It's cash only but there's a place next door with an ATM, so no sweat. And for any Caviar delivery people out there, I've never had an issue (delivery to Park Slope), which average delivery times about 30 minutes? Can't be beat. The bartender was very handsome, and friendly. He made me a wonderful Old Fashioned. F had a gin and tonic. When I finished my first drink, I was given another on the house. Nice! I probably won't be back in the near future since I live in NJ now, but if this was still my stomping ground, I would definitely come back but not on a weekend. read more

Literally you could see us from the stand and she completely forgot. We ended up getting in at 8:15 or so. I don't think the reservation was even counted on Open Table, so I didn't even get my points. Anyway, outside of the poor introduction, the food was quite good. We shared the lemon spaghetti as a side, which was perfect because it was a little too strong and unique to be an entree. Pasta was delicious. Gersi is a hidden gem. We only happened to find it on Yelp because we were looking for Italian in Brooklyn and most places were booked solid. Somehow we scored the last available table at Gersi on a Saturday night. It's a beautiful little restaurant although rather cramped. But we didn't mind - we were just so happy for the delicious food and warm, friendly service. The appetizers really stood out. The veal meatballs in brodo were some of the best I've ever had. We loved them so much we immediately ordered a second order. The meatballs are tiny but packed with savory flavor. The pear and endive salad was also lovely, as were the two bruschettas we tried - the roasted garlic and the tomato. I was less excited by the entrees although they were still very good. I really loved the grilled polenta but found the pasta dishes to be cooked differently than how I typically prefer. My preference is always al dente and these pastas I found to be bordering on soft. Seriously, even though it was insanely hot outside, the view was worth it. It is so picturesque and quiet, I forgot I was in the city. The staff was amazing, super attentive and friendly. After all the reviews about the mushroom bruschetta and spaghetti al limone, my friend and I made sure to order them. And they did not disappoint. The bruschetta is seriously some of the best I've ever had. The pasta dish was so simple yet so delicious. Portions were really reasonable as were the prices! I went here for dinner after reading a few positive reviews and was pretty disappointed. We ordered the panzanella, the mushroom polenta, the penne with shrimp and vodka sauce, and the carbonara, and while it wasn't bad it definitely wasn't memorable. Nothing had any complex or balanced flavors, nor was it high quality or special enough to feel like home cooking. The carbonara was the worst of the bunch--totally swimming in sauce with almost no flavor and four measly pieces of carbonara for $22. The penne was fine but totally average for a pasta priced at $34 and only a few pieces of shrimp. The panna cotta was also gummy. I'm pretty shocked at how much they were able to charge for something that seemed like Times Square Italian food. The interior was fine, tidy but nothing special. I am so glad we chose Gersi for one of our first outdoor dining experiences. Four of us ate at their outdoor dining area on the street and we were the only people there. This made it more comfortable for us, but I wish we chose the spacious backyard instead. If you're reading this, definitely ask for the backyard space! I had to try the spaghetti al limone - I've never heard of a dish like this before and with the hot, humid weather we've been experiencing the idea of refreshing citrus won me over. This dish did not disappoint! Every bite had a perfect mix of crisp lemon, creamy cheese, and pasta. I'm not sure if they make their pasta in-house or not, but the texture of the spaghetti was absolutely perfect with just enough chew. My friends got the carbonera, which was also excellent, and the black linguini. I appreciate that Gersi gave bread and oil before the food came, margins are tight these days and that gesture went a long way (the bread was tasty too). Well executed and liked their rendition of fennel so that the fennel taste is not so cutting in the salad. - black linguini with calamari. Solid. Came in with high expectations and left quite disappointed. Ambience in here is great. However, the food was lackluster. We ordered the brussel sprouts and veal meatballs as appetizers. The brussel sprouts were were not roasted well at all and a bit flavorless, and the veal meatballs were mediocre and quite salty. We had the limone pasta and the Orecchiette with italian sausage as our main dishes. Limone was very watery and far too lemony. Orecchiette was not good -- sausage tasted like generic sausage from Stop and Shop, not good and very bitter. Did not finish it and had no desire to bring it home.
