Love the vibes here! Lived around the corner when they opened. Great service and I love the lemon pasta. Carroll Gardens classic.

Best Italian restaurant in Brooklyn. This place is small and humble but has great food and service. I'm vegetarian so I usually eat ravioli and the double kale salad. The service is always good and super fast, and they make it easy to book online (it's hard to get space on the weekend). The only frustrating part is that they only take cash. I'd probably come here 2x as often if they took cards. Highly recommended! read more

CASH ONLY! My friends and I had a reservation for Gersi at 6pm on a Friday. The restaurant is very popular so if you're committed to trying it out during a peak time, you should probably make a reservation. We sat inside the restaurant. My friend told me that they also have a quaint outdoor seating area. The inside of the restaurant is dimly lit and has more of a "date night" vibe than for dining with friends. It was so dark I did not even bother trying to take pictures. However, Gersi has a homey vibe to it as you can see the fresh pasta being made and the ambiance feels rustic. If you come before 6pm, there is an offer for a free glass of wine for checking in on Yelp. We started off with steamed mussels ($13.95) as an appetizer. The portion size was good for two people. I thought the sauce was the highlight of the dish more than the mussels but I'm sure the price is for the mussels, not the sauce. For entrees, we ordered the kale gnocchi ($18.95), black linguini with calamari ($20.95), and the mezzi rigatoni ragu ($15.95). I had the kale gnocchi. The gnocchi was soft and chewy and did not taste like kale at all! I tried my friend's black linguini and found the sauce dried out the noodles quickly. My other friend said the ragu was standard. Overall, I felt the food was good and it seemed a lot of care went into the dishes (i.e. handmade pasta) but at the end of the day, it was nothing special. With the exception of the black linguini (since it was dry and tasteless) the prices could be a tad cheaper but are in line with the quality of the food. Throughout the night, we had decent service. However, this is not a place where you can chill and talk story because it is really popular. And after a reasonable amount of time, the staff will ask you politely to leave. The only thing that I needed to ask for was more water but other than that the staff was friendly and performed multiple check-ins throughout our meal. I would come back to Gersi to try some other things on their menu, especially their lemon pasta! read more

Best Italian food in the neighborhood!!! I order takeout from them all the time and also dine at the restaurant and the food is always consistent and so delicious. They have great specials too. read more

I went to the restaurant with high expectations and they did not fail to disappoint! I will definitely be back! I started with the black kale panzaella salad and then the homemade mushroom pappardelle for entrée both tasted so fresh and have my mouth watering for more! AND don't forget the panna cotta for dessert, perfect consistency and just sweet enough! read more

This place is one of my favorites! Beautiful space, delicious food, always consistent with flavors, which is huge for me. I don't know how they season chicken Parm, but it's insane! It's delicious! I never ever order chicken when I'm out, cause it's too simple- but this place is an exception! So worth it! read more

I ordered the ragu and it was so delicious! I was especially excited to also get really fantastic cheesy garlic bread without ordering it.

We were in New York for the first time and had spent 3 days in Manhattan. We wanted to at least experience one of the other boroughs and some New York Italian food. We selected Gersi because: 1. It was fairly close to the home base, i.e. not too far into Brooklyn; and 2. It's name. (Now I can tell folks I've been to Gersi and they'll think I've been to Atlantic City or something.) We called ahead to see if we needed reservations (it was a Friday evening) and the fellow we spoke with said if we arrived around 8:30 we should be fine. We got there at about that time, the B57 bus dropped us off right in front of the restaurant. No big sign. Only saw the name on a chalk board outside. There were quite a few folk waiting outside and we were, like, hmmm. But we were seated within 5 minutes. We arrived as quite a few people were leaving. We ordered from the Chef's specials starting with grilled asparagus. It was surprisingly tender for the size of the stalks. I grew up collecting asparagus from the banks of the irrigation ditch when it was very young and tender. Gersi's asparagus was just as good as any I remember from, oh, let's say 45 years ago. I ordered pappardelle with lamb ragu. The portion was totally doable, and delicious. The sauce was a bit tangy, but not too much. I had a side of roasted brussel sprouts. Mmmmmm. My wife had the mezzi rigatoni ragu with meatballs and sausage from the regular menu. She says it was full of flavor and very good. My only disappointment was the homemade lemonade. It was quite sweet, and I make my lemonade at home to make your mouth pucker. All in all a very satisfying experience. Note this is a cash only place. There is a convenience store with an ATM next door, and it dispensed $20 bills! Manhattan banks like to dispense $50 and $100 bills. read more

A perfect experience from start to finish! My fiance and I came here for my birthday on a Saturday night. We called earlier that evening to make a reservation and got the time we wanted without any issue. Having recently eaten our way on a trip through Italy, our standards for Italian food are pretty high but Gersi still knocked it out of the park. The dishes are simple, fresh, and expertly made. We shared the chicken parmesan and lamb ragu from the specials menu. The fresh pasta in the ragu was excellent, and the chicken parm was delicious as well. Dessert is my favorite part of any meal, and the tiramisu did not disappoint. It was light and fluffy, with a great balance of the cream and coffee/liqueur flavors. I'd like to say that I split it with my fiance, but if I'm being honest I basically inhaled the whole thing myself. Shoutout to Yuri at the host stand for making sure we liked our table and checking in with us on our way out to make sure all was well. The rest of the staff was also extremely attentive without being invasive. Great experience all around. As other Yelpers have noticed, this place is cash only so plan accordingly. There's a TD ATM a block away in case you forget. read more

So good and simple. Started with grilled octopus, perfect size for two. The beet and goat cheese ravioli hit the spot. I don't usually order pasta or cheese but this was not too heavy or cheesey. It made me want more but I felt satisfied. My bf's hanger steak was okay. It had a side salad so for Paleoans it was a healthy portion and combination. We shared a classic molten chocolate cake with berries and cream and after it was finished, everything in the world seemed fine. Gersi has a following now so on Friday nights, expect a wait for a table or be seated at the bar. It seems to be the hot new spot in CG/CH. Kudos to them for serving unpretentious food that can be regular fare for families and folks in the area. Prices are reasonable because it's cash only. Don't know why they don't take credit cards but if they did, it probably would be even harder to get in. read more

Gersi Is now one of my favorite restaurants! They have a lovely outdoor space, they have wonderful affordable brunches, lunches and dinners! You cant lose. So I have to let people know about what is REALLY going on at this restaurant. It's great! I live in the neighborhood and wanted this to be my little secret, but its too good to keep to myself. The food is unpretentious and I have literally have had everything on the menu. My favorites are the branzino, roasted chicken, lemon pasta and a good go to is the lasagna. The vibe is very warm, and feels like you are stopping by an 'old friends" house for dinner and drinks. The backyard is great and the bathroom is so kitschy, its cool. But in addition to amazing food, the real reason this is such a great place is the people who work there. From the owners to the bartenders, wait staff, busboys and the Chef and everyone the works in the kitchen are a family and that feeling filters through to the guests. So, I guess the cat is out of the bag , Gersi is family and love is meant to be shared, so I guess I will just share the love. read more

Man oh man. I should just end the review here and say, ''twas a good meal"- but I'll give a few more details. The other reviewers were not kidding when they said try their lemon pasta. It hits all the rights spots in all the right places on your taste buds. It is portioned perfectly in that it is satisfying, but leaves you wanting more. We also ordered their calamari- it was not fried, and it was Dee-lish- all over. It's nice spot, with nice ambience, with a nice owner, and even nicer food. Definitely try this spot. read more

I'll start off by saying I LOVE food. I work a lot, am always hungry and so, I am pleased with roughly 99% of the food I order. This is the 1st time I felt obliged to share -- Super disappointed. Ordered a "steak" that was not nearly worth $23 + 6 service fee. Cold. Bland. And the "slices" were bite size. They would be perfect for half a steak sandwich, lunch portion. UGH. If I served food for a living, I wouldn't let this leave my kitchen. I will never order here again. I will never recommend anyone to order from them either. read more

Gersi - 23+ steak. 5 bite size pieces. Bland. Cold. Yuck - Italian Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Unless your definition of Italian food is "everything smothered in canned tomato sauce" I would not waste your time eating here. I asked the server what was in the lamb ragu and he said "lamb with tomato sauce." That is not a ragu! My friend got it anyway and sure enough that is exactly what it was, pasta with bits of lamb smothered in tomato sauce. Even the mussels appetizer were buried in tomato sauce. It's worse than Olive Garden, and you may say that's not even Italian! And I would say EXACTLY. read more

I'm so happy I came here! We ordered mussels, kale Caesar salad with a side of grilled chicken, and the chicken parm with spaghetti. All of it was amazing. Also, the staff informed us that they only had enough mussels for a half order. I was fine with that. I'll definitely be returning here again! read more

I was very disappointed with Gersi's misleading representation of "outdoor dining". We made a reservation to sit outside as I am not comfortable with indoor dining during COVID. The "backyard" is a fully enclosed space with 4 walls and a roof covering the area. We left immediately after seeing the space we were offered. This space should not be advertised as outdoor dining. read more

My wife and I stayed in our kids Gowanus apartment for a long weekend and he gave me a list of restaurants, cafes and bars that they loved. Gersi was listed as 'real Italian, fair prices and everything is good'. So we went there and I couldn't find it. Why, no sign outside as it's really old school, people either know about it or somehow find it. Once you know to look for the awning, you won't make that mistake again. It was a beautiful night and they found us a table outdoors in the back courtyard. I felt like i was in Tuscany. The waiter was exceptionally helpful and answered all our questions. When we were torn whether or not to both get the same dish or share two, he looked at our choices and suggested share. Luckily we listened, as both dishes were off the charts delicious, and I am someone who loves Italian food, did i say LOVES? haha We had two types of Bruschetta Roasted Garlic and traditional Vine ripe tomatoes and basil. Both were excellent. What was truly mouth watering were our entrees, Spaghetti al Limone (fresh lemon and parmigiano reggiano) and Strozzapreti(marinara sauce and fresh soft ricotta di pecora). We debated after and gave the Spaghetti al Limon a slight edge. My wife asked the waiter his name and he said, "Gersi", which meant that the owner of the restaurant had served us that night even though they had a full house. He spend 10-15 minutes talking to us about our family and his, and we knew we had a go to Italian place now. When he offered us dessert, we said we were too full but of course Gersi sent us a complimentary Tiramisu to celebrate my 66th birthday, the fact that my kids eat here and recommended it plus the new friendship we had created discussing our families. So when i do the Half Marathon in Brooklyn in about 2 weeks, Gersi is where i'll do my carbo loading. I can taste the Spaghetti al Limon as i write this, and this time we'll have one bruschetta so we can order the Tiramisu. Gersi, we were the couple from Suffern across the Tappan Zee Bridge that you told about the beauty of the birth of your daugher as we told you about granddaughters and our sons. Thank you and see you in two weeks from Friday. I'll make reservations today read more

Seated in the heated garden was nice and cozy felt like we were in a private area. Staff was attentive! We ordered broccoli rabe with anchovies- really good and fresh- broccoli rabe cooked perfect and not mushy. A rustic Italian restaurant located in the heart of Carroll Gardens. My husband and I came here with another couple on a Saturday night. We made a reservation earlier in the day, and thankfully so, because the place was packed. We really enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. They've done a great job incorporating rustic style in both their dishes and decor. Pastas tasted very fresh. I got the kale gnocchi special with tomato sauce and garlic cream. The portion was very generous, however I've had better tasting gnocchi at other restaurants. My husband ordered the roasted chicken, which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. For the appetizers we shared bruschetta, Sicilian salad, grilled polenta, and veal meatballs. The meatballs were amazing! Grilled polenta was very good as well. It was topped with gorgonzola cheese, which had a very distinct cheese flavor. Our server was very friendly. However, one of the appetizers did not come on time, and was served with the entrees, which is understandable considering how busy the restaurant was. read more

So, I got really excited to see the menu here while searching for a place to eat on yelp, as I was visiting a friend nearby! One of my favorite restaurants in Manhattan is Supper, and I was super happy it seemed they had opened a sister restaurant in Brooklyn; the menu is almost exactly the same! I asked the host as he seated us about the connection, and he said that the owner had managed Supper for 16 years, but had gone out on his own. I decided to suspend judgement, and we ordered our meals. We were brought the "same" signature spicy white beans in olive oil and foccacia, but there really wasn't anything the same about it. There was far less flavor in the beans, very little olive oil to actually dip the bread in, and the bread seemed a little stale or over cooked, as if it had been reheated over and over. We shared the black kale panzanella salad, which is something I regularly crave and am a little obsessed with from Supper. They did a good job recreating this, and no complaints there. My friend had the Branzino, which was ok, she liked it, and I had the papardelle ragu, which at Supper was always off the charts. Here, not so much. A little bland, overlooked noodles, and not much in the way of sauce, which would have been fine had there been more flavor and the noodles absorbed that. This was really disappointing. Obviously, it's none of my business what happened between the owner of Supper and the owner of this restaurant, but it was a little weird to me that the restaurant would keep so much of the original if it was not affiliated. Legally, I don't really get how they can do that, but again, none of my business. The decor, the backyard rustic set up, and the handwritten menu, down to the beans and mismatched table settings! While lovely, it was all a pale comparison to the original, as someone who dined at the former establishment quite frequently. I think this place would work as a cute little neighborhood spot with decent food if they were to redesign the menu and make some original choices. Sure, keep a few things if you really need to, but design an original menu to make your own mark! If someone has never been to Supper, they probably wouldn't think twice about it. But, knowing what the dishes should taste like, I just don't think I would waste my time here. There are other cute spots, and if I wanted to eat at Supper, I'd rather just make the trip! read more

Hands down the BEST chicken Parmesan I have ever had, besides my own mothers. Unlike so many restaurants, the chicken is never rubbery or tough to chew. It's tender and the sauce is just magical. Thank you for being incredible every time. This is my new go to place! read more

The service was rushed. It felt like they were trying to get my family to hurry up so they can use the table when multiple waiters wanted to take away plates even though we weren't finished eating. We sat at the worst table even though several tables around were empty. A stack of napkins fell near my 4 year old because they were stacked next to where she was seated along with a bottle of cleaning product that was nearby. The staff was friendly but will say they my experience was not great at all. I'm not sure if this is because we had two young kids that we got worse table in the house but will no recommend or be going back. The pasta we got was actually pretty good and cocktails were delicious. I may have ordered another cocktail if someone asked and didn't feel like they wanted us to be done so they couldn't flip the table. read more

Amazing accommodations and even better food! Drove from New Jersey to meet with some friends that live in the neighborhood worth the drive!

Do not order takeout/delivery from this place. They never showed up with our order and they couldn't take the time to answer any of their phones when we were trying to figure out where out food was. And given it ended up being late on a Sunday night when we had to finally give up on ever getting our food from them, we had limited other options to choose from before those places closed. Not happy at all with the customer service here - there are other restaurants that are more reliable for the same level of food. Go to those instead. read more

Found Gersi on Yelp. I saw pictures and descriptions of the squid ink pasta with calamari and said I have to try it. Called up to see if they served it in addition to their brunch menu. They did and had seating availability, score. We walked in around 2 o'clock on Saturday for brunch. Very cute little spot. We were a party of four. Two of us went for the breakfast side of the brunch menu. One went for a pasta and I went for the squid ink linguini special. One of us ordered just eggs and bacon. Very good, eggs and bacon both cooked perfect. Next was the thickest piece of French toast I've ever seen. Had to be two inches thick. Served with fresh fruit and a delicious raspberry butter. It was really good I actually wished I was in the mood for breakfast I would have put in another order for myself. My wife went for the lemon pasta with Reggiano parmigiana. It was very tasty. My wife loved it. Just a little to plain for my likings. Then came to my order the black squid ink pasta with calamari. Delicious! Definitely worth the trip. Very tasty spicy arrabiata sauce. Definitely would recommend ordering it. I can't wait to get back to try some other options here. Everything looked great coming out of the kitchen. I would love to try the polenta next time. read more

Great spot for a cozy date or a casual dinner. Portions are decent and so far tried their two entrees, roasted chicken and pork chop. Both are cooked well. The Branzino was really good. However, it came with strangely wilted and bitter arugula; it probably had been stored too close to the freezer. When I nicely asked for a scoopful of mashes potatoes instead, my nice waiter said he had to ask the chef (they have mashed potatoes on the menu.) He came back and said the chef had said it was not possible. What? Instead, he gave me new greens, which were less wilted but still very bitter. Not nice. read more
