Pope Francis ate meals prepared by Chef Jessie Sincioco during his visit to the Philippines in January 2015. While he did not dine inside her restaurant, Chef Jessie was the official chef who prepared his daily meals at the Apostolic Nunciature (the Vatican embassy) in Manila. So that should tell you how delicious her food is. The restaurant is pretty and the decor is tropical and vibrant with colors of green and yellow everywhere and beautiful palm trees and fresh flowers throughout the restaurant. The staff gives exceptional top-notch high-end service and I loved their colorful uniforms. Our server Kevin was attentive and helpful as their menu is pretty extensive and has lots of delicious options. It was kind of difficult for me to choose what I wanted to eat because there was so many delicious options. They have cuisine that is international and not just Filipino food at all. They have traditional steaks and pork chops and lots of salads. They have tuna melts and sandwiches that you're familiar with if you're from the United States. I decided to go for some traditional options and for my appetizer I had the chicken Caesar salad with Cajun chicken. The dressing, grilled chicken and croutons were absolutely delicious. I also opted to have the carbonara pasta. Which was a little different than I normally have as it had mushrooms with in it, which was a great surprise. The bacon was finally chopped, and the sauce was just so creamy and rich and delicious. My sister went with the pumpkin and carrot soup which was phenomenal along with the lemongrass chicken and white rice. That was the best tasting chicken I've ever had as it was marinated and had such delicious flavors and juices, and very fresh. My other friend had the grilled tiger prawns with Mantaiko butter sauce. We finished our meals with a mango dessert with vanilla ice cream that the pope ate as well. It had mango prepared three different ways. Some mangoes were lightly grilled, and the other mangoes were marinated for days and it was just simply delicious. All in all, we had an exceptional lunch at Chef Jessie's. We were also lucky enough because chef Jessie was coming to the tables to ask everyone how their food was and we were able to take a picture with her. Very classy touch to have the chef actually come out see how we enjoyed our meal and was so kind to take pictures with us, which made our trip very special. 10 out of 10 would recommend to a friend!

There were different types of sashimi... tuna, salmon, escolar, octopus, squid, etc. Highly recommend ordering the bento sets. Great value! I will need to visit again to try the other bentos. I do have to mention how difficult it was to find parking in this area. Be prepared for circling around during lunch time if you're not familiar with the area. Apparently this is another historical spot having been around for a while. Walking in, the place had a small amount of seating on the ground level (all were occupied.) We fortunately had a reservation for 11 people. I don't think we would've fit on the ground level but fortunately they had 4 tables located on the 2nd floor. We did order a bit of dishes as shared on the attached photos - overall it was okay. Although I'm sure they're known for serving certain types of food (apparently lumpia is popular at this location), we didn't order it. They did however bring out the food extremely quickly. If I were to return back in this area, maybe I'll grab some lumpia.

Located near Century City Mall in Makati, across A-venue, Maru is one of the lesser-known and most underrated Korean joints in town. Once you plop down on your seat, their attentive servers immediately provide you with a plethora of Korean appetizers in small plates. What's great about these appetizers is that you can have as much as you want! Because of that, they feel like a meal in itself. My companion and I usually order the Chadol Bagi (Php 380) or thin slices of fatty beef, Galbisal (Php 450) or thin slices of boneless shortribs and Samgyubsal (Php 280), which are thin slices of pork liempo made to appear like bacon. Once the marinated, uncooked meats arrive, a server cooks them up for you in the grill on the table and once cooked, the meat keeps on coming. In lieu of rice, my eating partner and I usually ask for lettuce, wrap the meat with it and dip it in their special sauce. At the end of the meal, we usually pay no more than Php 600 each. For the type of meal we had, that price is not bad at all.

Little does everyone know how amazing this place is. For those of you who are not aware, this place is located across A-venue in Makati Avenue. You know what they say if it's like that - it can give you reassurance that the place is good! Get a table and the first thing the waiter will do is give you about 10 different appetizers. Don't be shy because you can actually refill any of the plates - it's unlimited and it's free. Order the Korean pancakes - it's this egg dish that looks like an omelet but has meat and veges. Super good!! Next, I suggest you get slices of meat that you can grill right in front you making sure you also got a bowl of Bibimbap. For dessert, the ice cream bars you typically see in the groceries are found here as well. Price well, this place is very reasonable!! Wild Ginger serves affordable Asian food with great quality. Their Roti Prada with Curry Dipping Sauce makes for a great and tasty appetizer, along with their Vietnamese Spring Rolls. I recently tried their Tofu Salad with Peanut Sauce - another quick favorite! Great for those looking for a healthy option. I know a lot of places scrimp on the salad dressing but Wild Ginger smothers their peanut sauce all over this one. Mmm! Since they're on Vietnamese and Thai cuisine, their Pad Thai is a must try. It's good enough for sharing or at least one very hungry person. Most of their main courses also have the peanut sauce theme, including their Kare-kare and Chicken Satay. Their Lemongrass Tea is also really good - I wish they had a bottomless option, because I nearly finished mine in a few sips!

Subsequent visits were made and it was hot pot all the way from there. No regrets were had. (Skip this paragraph if you already know how to get there/park cause tl;dr) Tien Tien used to be located on Pasay Rd/Arnaiz so don't make the same mistake as me! They are now located in The Atrium Bldg along Makati Ave right next to the pretty pretty Zuellig Bldg. Parking can be a bit of an issue if you're not familiar with how it works but here are some hopefully helpful instructions based on personal experience of driving around in circles: If you're heading north on Makati Ave from Ayala Ave, you'll actually see The Atrium Bldg, that way you have an idea of where it is. Make a right on Paseo de Roxas and an immediate right into what looks like the parking lot/driveway of the Zuellig Bldg. Go past the lot onto the next street which is Apartment Ridge Rd and make a right there since it's a one way street. It's parallel to Makati Ave and just follows along the curve. You can park (or double park if you have a driver I guess) next to the wall and there should be an entrance to Tien Tien from the back. Semi bad thing is that you'll have to go through the function rooms which can be awks if there are a lot of people or if there's private party. Enough about location and parking, onto the food: Two things I remember about the ala carte menu is that 1) the seafood is super fresh. You can actually see the food (haha get it) swimming in the aquariums near the front entrance. 2) Eel in black bean/tausi sauce. Don't even think twice except maybe for the bones so be careful. Eat this with rice because it is so worth the calories. The hot pot blows so many other hot pot places out of the water. What Tien Tien doesn't give you in AYCE, they give you in quality. You have a choice of 4 soup bases and you can pick 2 in a split pot for variety. I personally prefer the wansuy soup base (stock with cilantro and peidan/century egg) cause I find it very light and refreshing. It also doesn't mask the taste of the meat, fish, etc too much and it absorbs their flavors too if you wanna drink the soup afterwards. Do not get wansuy if you have the genetics that make you think cilantro tastes like soap. Get sate instead if you'd like a spicy kick. The wantons, shrimp balls, and beef balls are all freshly made and take a little longer to cook so throw them into the soup first. The HK sliced beef is so red and fresh with just the right amount of fat. The rest of the stuff is pretty much standard. I unfortunately couldn't try the cheeseballs that people have mentioned because I'm lactose intolerant. Sad day. There is a sink near the entrance so you can wash your hands if you don't need to use the bathroom since it is located outside. In the dark empty building that could easily scare you if you're a scaredy cat like me. That sink is very much appreciated. The staff is great and very attentive! Very efficient and awesome service! We're sorry if we kept making you come back to pour tea, we wanted a whole teapot so you wouldn't have to go back and forth. However, I wouldn't recommend using the bathroom here because it's not exactly a golden throne.
