Best veggie and local dishes in town. The deconstructed pork stew was great. Service was good.

Absolutely loved it here. The way the executive chef takes these traditional Filipino dishes and then elevated them to another level is so genius. Try everything here! You really can't go wrong. Our crew got to try at least 8 of the menu items and none disappointed. My favorites... the Duck Lugow and Oyster Sisig. I'd you're near any of their 5 locations, get your Locavore on!!

A new twist to Filipino cuisine. You have to be open minded and read their menu before ordering or don't hesitate to ask your server. This is not your typical Filipino cuisine but it's so good. I enjoyed their Lechon and Oyster Sisig, Gising Gising and also their Turon. Would definitely come back to try their Gabi chips with salted eggs and their sizzling pandesal

When planning my last trip to Manila, I immediately bookmarked Locavore on Yelp with hopes that I'd get there somehow, some way. Well lucky me! My super intuitive colleague Joey R and her fiancé surprised me by whisking me away to a dinner at a local restaurant of their choice... and the restaurant just happened to be Locavore! Sweet, sweet coincidence. Locavore is known for their modern interpretation of traditional Filipino dishes... and judging by the crowd which filled the restaurant on a recent Monday night, they've taken Manila by a culinary storm. As I'm not an expert on Filipino food - only a very willing enthusiast - I suggested that Joey and Carlo handle all the ordering. We tried several dishes, including gabi chips (with loads of garlic, yum), the fried oyster sisig (my favorite of the evening!), the street food platter (such an adventure) and I know I'm forgetting the name of another dish involving prawns though believe me, it too was memorable (I do recall about a kilo of butter!). It was a lot of food - and of course, like most traditional Filipino food it's cooked with a good amount of fat so it's quite rich. I didn't eat again until 3pm the next day! Locavore also features a lovely list of libations and local beer. I very much enjoyed the crisp taste of my Sierra Madre wheat ale which nicely complemented our dinner selections. I can't wait to return to continue eating my way through the menu of uniquely rearranged Filipino favorites!

It's been a really long time since I last visited Locavore. I totally made up for it! I was here Friday night for dinner. The next day, I was back for lunch. Hahahaha! My absolute favorite is their Sizzling Sinigang. In all honesty... it isn't "sizzling". Hahaha! I do love how they made that really good sour sinigang taste into a thick sauce. You get to savor flavors more! I'm not a rice eater... but this goes perfectly with their Roasted Garlic Organic Brown Rice. My friends who don't like brown rice really enjoyed the brown rice. Hahaha! The Garlic Baby Squid is really good too. I'm not a fan of garlic... but I liked this dish a lot. Their Lechon Oyster Sisig is a must try too! I honestly find it difficult to explain this dish because there's so much going on but they all work together. Try it out for yourself. Hehehe! Their food tends to be quite oily, so prepare your arteries for that. The Sizzling Sinigang leaves an oily film in your mouth when it gets cold. The place itself is quite noisy due to a lot of flat surfaces. You can hear everyone talking. When it rains, it's even noisier since you can really hear the rain falling on to their roof. This can definitely be better! Food service is generally fast. The bill somehow takes longer. Be prepared to spend around Php 500 per person.

I know people don't typically rave about the desserts here but thought I'd specifically call out the Torta Mangga which i thought was fantastic. Made with mangoes, meringue, tablea, AND dulce de leche, it's a refreshing dessert that doesn't leave you too full. Would recommend if you have room to spare next time you're at Locavore!

    Winner: SIZZLING SINIGANG!

Yes I know the 14 reviews before me are enough to convince you that this place is ace. But maybe, just maybe, you needed a 15th reason, let this be it: THE SIZZLING SINIGANG IS TO DIE FOR! Goooosh, I am drooling just remembering it. Sinigang is already a fantastic Filipino dish as is but Locavore took it to stellar heights by making it sizzling! Imagine the classic sour-yum taste of sinigang now on a sizzling plate filled with gravy and tender meat swimming in it. If you're vegan, don't worry - there are veggies swimming in it too. Not a fan of sinigang in the first place? Well, you're in luck! Locavore's other ingenious takes on Filipino cuisine are as good as this that you will not make a mistake ordering whatever it is that catches your eye on the menu. Suggestions: kinilaw and pancit and... SIZZLING SINIGANG! Hahahah sorry stubborn but you really MUST order this.

This place is great. I love the set-up. The place looks cool, lots of seating and fast service. Myself and two friends ended up going on a Sunday around 6pm. It wasn't busy yet. It got busier later around 7ish. What we ordered 1. Kare kare wings- My favourite thing we ordered. Comes with 6 wings covered in kare kare sauce. Comes with mango and slices of other fruit? (not sure of the name) and with two sauces. A white ranch type sauce which I really enjoyed and bagoong (shrimp paste). I could have ate the whole thing myself. The kare-kare sauce is on point with just the right peanut butter taste. Definitely a must-order when you go here. 2. Sizzling Sinigang- People raved about this dish. I don't really enjoy sinigang. For me it was just ok. My friends said it was just ok too. The sauce has a gravy like texture. All the flavours are present but I didn't enjoy it as much as the kare kare wings. However, this too is a must-order when you go here. Just try it out. Maybe you will enjoy it. Definitely not a bad dish. 3. Oyster and Lechon sisig- Um what? It's delicious! I didn't really taste the oyster in it but it was there. This is a must get! I really enjoyed it. The sauce on top is different. Goes well with the garlic rice. But what doesn't? haha. 5. Garlic rice- must have with all of these dishes! We got 2 orders which was good enough for the 3 of us. 4. Gabi chips- when I eat out I like to observe what others are ordering. This is definitely an appetizer but we ordered it after our meal. These are good! It has a garlicky taste and comes with a interesting citrus white sauce. We were really full so didn't finish it. We ended up saving it for later that night. And they were still delicious! I wish I could have these as a study snack. I think I will definitely come here again for my birthday. Can't wait to eat the kare-kare wings!

I love Locavore because they give unique, modern twists to traditional Filipino classics. Their Sinigang Sisig was awesome! The dish consisted of beef short ribs in sour sampaloc gravy. Beef was fall-off-the-bone tender, and the sauce tasted strongly of sampaloc. It was definitely the highlight of the night! If the Sinigang Sisig was great, the Lechon Oyster Sisig was also pretty good! In addition, the Garlic Baby Squid was worth raving about! The squid was cooked in olive oil and mixed with garlic. Although it tasted good, the serving was quite small for P320. Ginataang kalabasa didn't come out as expected. I was expecting to have kalabasa chunks in a mixture of kalabasa and gata sauce. It turned out that the ginataang kalabasa was only the sauce of a piece of pork chop, shrimps, and beans. Service was incredibly fast. All the dishes we ordered came out in just around 5 minutes!

When you like it out-of-the-box, Locavore offers a menu that innovated the filipino cuisine. It was a lunch time on a Sunday and I just got off from Privato Hotel in Shaw. I was thinking I deserve something delectable to eat. Headed to Brixton St. in Kapitolyo for a fusion filipino meal. Kicked-off with a plate of Ensaladang Pakwan garnished with Kesong Puti, Arugula, Olives and vinaigrette of patis. One of kind pinoy salad for P260. The freshness of watermelon resonates a taste of summer. One main course is enough for me and I go for the best-selling Sizzling Sinigang priced at P495. It is basically deconstructed the classic pinoy dish. The savour is just right. Short ribs is tender but oily. I still like Sinigang with soup but it's worth a try. Other interesting meals thar comes with a twist are fried oyster sisig, kimchinigang, sugpo con mayonesa and thrice-cooked pata. Observed that the servers seems distracted and not smiling. Which is pretty understood, who's happy to work on a Sunday anyway.

It's all about the sizzling sinigang... Hubs ordered the ff: street food sampler- nice plating, popular for kids, but can't say it was elevated (can get it elsewhere) Manga and singkamas- same as above, great to have of you're craving it (who doesn't love these though?) Lumpia- so you wrap this with the veggies that came with it. good option but not that spectacular Pusit a la pobre- yum! Super small portions though, but a good option and I quite liked it with the rice Thrice fried crispy pata- super crispy! Good option... It's crispy pata Sugpo- wow! The Sugpo, aligue and butter! You will want extra rice (Nomnomnom) Sizzling sinigang- this is the star out of everything we ordered... Because it's sizzling, it's really flavourful and I enjoyed this a lot (I like sour flavours, and great surprise it's kalbi) There's so much options and I'd love to go back and try other stuff in their menu. Great place to dine with family or group of friends so you can try everything! Will def come back

This place is a legitimate gastropub. They have elevated Filipino food to a different level! I don't know how, but they've made Filipino food more comforting and more elegant at the same time. Must try: Sizzling Sinigang Lechon Oyster Sisig and my favorite - Leche Flan! Make sure to pour the sauce all over before digging in! Simply put, this is where I'll be taking my friends from the US when they come to visit.

    Sizzling Sinigang
    Michael F.

I liked the modern-meets-traditional feel of the place. The fusion that they claimed and delivered even went beyond their menu. Their non-conventional takes on staple Filipino dishes definitely gave me an exciting gastronomic adventure. Sizzling Sinigang (you heard that right) is a must-try. Served on a sizzling plate (of course), the dish doesn't have the usual soup that Sinigang is known for but instead, the ingredients are drenched in a sour viscous sauce. Sugpo con Mayonesa was also a delightfully sinful treat. Jumbo Black Tiger Prawns cooked in aligue (crab fat) and Japanese mayonnaise was just outstandingly divine (it would make you want to hit the gym the next day and check your BP though). I wasn't able to try their signature cocktails but I'll most certainly be back for that.

Three of us reside overseas so we were all looking frward to authentic Filipino foods. This place rose to the occasion. The standout was the fish that was filleted and deep-fried, and spread out like a butterfly so it was easy to take a piece off. The fish was cooked perfectly, that is, it wasn't overcooked like most fried fish dishes would be. All of us asked for fresh buko (coconut) juice servied in a whole coconut. However, the coconut was no longer young coconut that usually has soft meat that we can spoon up. instead, it was more "niyog" or mature coconut that needed to be cut up which the staff did for us.

Back then, if you've been living in Manila for most of your life, the words "food" and "court" in the same sentence never really sounded appetizing. Enter Hole in the Wall. I've been here a few times already, but stepping inside its huge hip maze of interiors never ceases to excite me. I'm not sure if it's the thrill of choosing what meal to try next or just the nice aesthetic of literally everything, that excites me more. On my first visit, I made sure to first try the super popular fried chicken from Bad Bird. As a big fan Southern-style fried chicken, I wasn't disappointed. The crispy skin had a yummy seasoning that's new to the palette, very different compared to my other favorites, such as the Chickenjoy from Jollibee and the Pan Fried Chicken from Pancake House. And there's something about their side dishes that just completes the whole meal. The corn on the cob with bonito flakes, sweet and umami flavors melting in your mouth, was to die for. The coleslaw provided a nice acidic break from the saltiness of the chicken. The meal was a fun experience itself. Just the other day, I tried the Pastrami on Rye from Mr. Delicious and it was monstrous--just plain impressive in terms of size. I didn't even attempt to bite on the entire stack, using my fork and knife like a pretentious chick on a first date instead. Each bite off the monster-wich was packed with so many different flavors, though the pastrami still easily emerges as the hero of the dish. And let's not get started on the sweet potato chips. I'm not a big sweet potato-lover, but damn, the portion was more than satisfying. If there's anything I'd like modified, I just wish there was a bit more of the veggie pickles to cut through all the meat and fat. For now, I'll end this review right here. If it isn't yet so obvious, I'll probably be back here in no time to try a different food stall or two.
