    Halo halo but different
    Tina S.

While waiting for our appointment at a nearby clinic, we chanced upon Locavore on a Tuesday afternoon. It was slow as expected on a weekday. We were immediately greeted and were guided to a table right away. Service points, check. The inside were just typical seating, booths and tables. Very well ventilated especially in this heat. The menu is filipino themed but the dishes were revamped. Ever heard of sizzling sinigang? How about octopus adobo? Everything on the menu was so intriguing. We ordered the street food platter, sizzling sinigang, iskrambol, pork belly and halo halo. No regrets. Everything was 5 star worthy. Please swing by if you are in the area. A must try especially if you're craving for some local dish.

Sizzling Sinigang short beef ribs @Locavore (BCG) super sour

Service and ambience in posh and trendy Forbes Town are on point. Food hit just off the mark for us after trying the fried lumpia and signature sizzling sinigang beef ribs . The short ribs were overly sour, every bite, we shared and couldn't get past that point. To their credit it might be the way that sinigang gravy just hits, but I found it odd that every bite to the end caused a face cringe. The lumpia wasn't crispy , altho it was beautifully presented, hut to make it less likable they tasted like smoked salmon. Fabulous location in the Burgos Circle. I wouldn't return after this experience with so many other options nearby.

The food was mediocre, but the service was decent. After trying a couple of appetizers from the menu, my husband and I decided not to order entrees due to the appetizers we tried being subpar - they lacked flavor altogether. The deep-fried seafood platter was not freshly prepared and served at a lukewarm temperature. The supposedly fresh lumpia appeared to have been fried in cold oil. lol! The dining area is modern aesthetic, accompanied by the typical ambient noise of a restaurant. However, the ladies' restroom required thorough cleaning and sanitizing, as it emitted a strong sulfur gas-like odor. Dined in, 2/19/2025 around 12 noon.

Every single item ordered were exceptionally flavorful. I like Kare kare wings, oyster sisig and sizzling sinigang. The salted egg gabi chips is crunchy. These modern Filipino dishes are highly recommended.

Great spot with a twist on traditional dishes. Loved the sizzling sinigang and champurado.

Wow! I stumbled on this place walking through Forbes Town as Tipsy Pig was too busy and boy am I glad I did. I had the Kare-Kare Wings and Kanto Ribs. The menu is extensive with traditional Filipino food with a twist. Not pictured was the Balakyot Ni Paloma. Perfectly spiced and delicious.

We were craving for fishballs and kwek-kwek that day so we were glad that we satisfied our street food and 'Silog craving at Locavore! To start, we ordered the street food sampler/platter and mango & singkamas with bagoong. These two dishes paid homage to the typical street food you can buy along the road but you have that peace of mind that these were prepared in a clean and sanitary way. We shared a plate of gising gising with sigarilyas - enjoyed the flavours but the sigarilyas were a bit tough. We ordered the following 'silogs: bangsilog for me, tapsilog for the hubby and tocilog for our friend. We all devoured our plates but the rice servings were just a wee bit too much for us. For dessert, we ordered their turon with dulce de leche sauce - loved it! The turon was packed and the sauce went well with it.

Came here for a cousins dinner. We had a group of about 20. They took care of us well, especially for having such a large group. I loved the food. Lechon and oyster sisig- I thought it was going to be weird, but it was the complete opposite. My favorite dish. So much flavor with a good kick from the pepper. A MUST TRY! Crispy pata- The skin was so crispy and the meat so tender. The pork itself was so flavorful. Sizzling sinigang- I liked this concept of sinigang. I thought it was very interesting. The beef was very tender, and the vegetables were fresh. It's perfect for a more concentrated taste of the sinigang flavor without all the liquid from the soup. Sour, but not too sour. Kare kare wings- very peanut butter taste and on the sweet side. I thought it tasted more like Thai peanut sauce than kare kare sauce though. Vegan salad- it was really potatoey. I liked the texture and flavor although I don't remember what other flavors beside potato there was. I guess I was too eager to try all the meat. The juices were yummy and the watermelon mojito was really good. Fresh watermelon chunks made the drink so refreshing.

    Modern version of Filipino dishes.

I am not a fan. Other than the great service and cleanliness of the place, the food was meh. I did not search for this place. My friend did because I was craving for street food. Duh,street food. But this modernized Filipino food with western influence didn't meet my criteria of good food. The cocktails that my friends ordered, watermelon Bacardi mojito and mango Bacardi mojito were like desserts,it was all sugar! So disappointing although I didn't want to drink alcohol at that time. Oh well,I had fun though(if that counts!).

12.31.18 New Year's Eve in the Philippines! This place was right outside of Conrad. So our friend took us here for dinner. It was absolutely delicious! One of the yummiest Filipino meal so far. The service was really good. The restaurant was pretty much fully booked except for the tall tables. But they were able to move us after confirming one of the party won't show up. I had the mango mojito! It was very mangolicious and there was another drink with the lime or lemon. It was also very good. As for food...drools. We ordered the the winged beans dish called gising gising, oxtail sisig, tiger pawns called the sugpo con mayonesa, boneless lechon belly, and two garlic rice lol We pretty much finished everything and super stuffed! It was that good. It wasn't much either, only costed us about $3000 something...in Philippines peso hahaha Due to our tight schedule, didn't get to return for a second meal. Next time!

For a place that was so busy, surprisingly, it wasn't too noisy and we were able to carry out a conversation. The staff was very attentive, and it seemed like we had multiple people serving us Like most groups, we dined family style. We shared everything that we ordered and every dish was scrumptious. Three of us reside overseas so we were all looking frward to authentic Filipino foods. This place rose to the occasion. The standout was the fish that was filleted and deep-fried, and spread out like a butterfly so it was easy to take a piece off. The fish was cooked perfectly, that is, it wasn't overcooked like most fried fish dishes would be. All of us asked for fresh buko (coconut) juice servied in a whole coconut. However, the coconut was no longer young coconut that usually has soft meat that we can spoon up. instead, it was more "niyog" or mature coconut that needed to be cut up which the staff did for us.

There's a nice portion of beef that arrives in the order, so it's very satisfying. The rice has an interesting flavor profile since it's mixed with spices and shrimp...it's definitely an interesting rice dish you won't find anywhere else. Abe has a huge menu that showcases the diversity in Philippine cuisine. The fact that it includes appetizers, salads, soups, mains, sides and desserts means you'll leave a very satisfied customer. The portion was moderate and it can feed 2 people. It was hot and crunchy and the sauce was pretty good. The pinakbet with pork liempo was awesome, please keep in mind that pinakbet in some regions are cooked without the sabaw (sauce). The eggplant was definitely fried. The bitter melon and the kombucha squash were steamed well. The pork was super crunchy!!! Please also note that one order of pinakbet will probably good for 2 people but I can definitely devour it on my own! The kare kare with crispy pork was also good. The sauce was slurry and not too thick. The string beans, banana heart (puso ng saging) and bok choy were steamed and cooked well. They were not soggy but crunchy. Also the eggplant was fried and added with the sauce. When you order kare kare it automatically comes with sautéed shrimp paste. This dish alone will probably feed 4 people. Overall the service was great, we did not wait long for the food, and we were seated right away since we arrived there around 11:45ish. The restaurant was clean and quite cozy. There's one bathroom for both genders. Total of all the meals including 1 sugarcane calamansi juice refill P1745.00 (also includes gratuity charges).

Every single location delivered the same top-notch service and excellent food. It seemed that there was always a waiting list. But what they did that was so smart was give us the menu and and an order form and that gave us the time to peruse the menu, decide what we want and place our orders. By the time we sat down, it didn't take long before our orders were delivered. The first time we dined, there were only two of us, so we ordere the small plates. Another smart idea to have the choice of small, medium and large orders depending on the number of people. We've always dined family style so we were able to taste different foods. We've ordered the essential Filipino foods i.e., different kinds of sisig, salpicao, sinigang, adobo, pancit palabok, buko pie, puto bumbong, halo halo. The garlic rice was fine as well. The turon didn't have bananas in it but mangoes instead. I had thought it would have had both mangoes and bananas, but was mistaken. Overall, a decent place for casual sit-down vibes.

Back then, if you've been living in Manila for most of your life, the words "food" and "court" in the same sentence never really sounded appetizing. Enter Hole in the Wall. I've been here a few times already, but stepping inside its huge hip maze of interiors never ceases to excite me. I'm not sure if it's the thrill of choosing what meal to try next or just the nice aesthetic of literally everything, that excites me more. On my first visit, I made sure to first try the super popular fried chicken from Bad Bird. As a big fan Southern-style fried chicken, I wasn't disappointed. The crispy skin had a yummy seasoning that's new to the palette, very different compared to my other favorites, such as the Chickenjoy from Jollibee and the Pan Fried Chicken from Pancake House. And there's something about their side dishes that just completes the whole meal. The corn on the cob with bonito flakes, sweet and umami flavors melting in your mouth, was to die for. The coleslaw provided a nice acidic break from the saltiness of the chicken. The meal was a fun experience itself. Just the other day, I tried the Pastrami on Rye from Mr. Delicious and it was monstrous--just plain impressive in terms of size. I didn't even attempt to bite on the entire stack, using my fork and knife like a pretentious chick on a first date instead. Each bite off the monster-wich was packed with so many different flavors, though the pastrami still easily emerges as the hero of the dish. And let's not get started on the sweet potato chips. I'm not a big sweet potato-lover, but damn, the portion was more than satisfying. If there's anything I'd like modified, I just wish there was a bit more of the veggie pickles to cut through all the meat and fat. For now, I'll end this review right here. If it isn't yet so obvious, I'll probably be back here in no time to try a different food stall or two.
