Very good ambiance and service. We ordered fried calamari, bistek, sigsig, fried rice and chicken bbq stick. They were out of the calamari that day. Best dishes were the Bistek and the bbq chicken. The fried rice and sigsig were ok.

This was our first experience of Filipino food. We had passed the restaurant the night before and it seemed to have a good choice of food. We were sat outside the restaurant and it seemed that as they were busy, they had forgotten about us. I had to go and ask to be served. The choices on the menu were varied. We ordered the Gambas Centro and Calamari for our starters and the Bistek Tagalog and the barbecue boneless chicken for our mains. When the food arrived, it didn't look appetising. I did not enjoy my prawns due to the smoky flavour. The calamari was very bland and we had to add slat to make it tastier. I didn't enjoy the flavour of the Bistek Tagalog nor the barbecue chicken. Service was slow for a Sunday evening and the staff were not friendly.

It's been 4 years since my last trip to Manila and every time I visit, a cuisine exploration is a major part of the trip. I went to several places, mostly good and very good but many were not in Yelp. Sentro however was in Yelp so of course a review was in order especially as this would be my first chance to review a restaurant in the Philippines. Sentro is in Makati Greenbelt, a very nice indoor outdoor mall and dining place with lush tropical gardens lining the edge of the outdoor dining. Ambience would be 5 stars for the gardens alone but the design was also very nice and homey. Unlike Filipino restaurants in LA, restaurants here are quite higher end than those in LA. and there are many! Anyway Sentro's cuisine is traditional Filipino but as with other Filipino restos here, the chefs make it their own with a twist here and there. I went with my sister and her hubby and my cousin and a friend. We ordered Sinigang na Gulay (vegetable sour stew), Tortang Bangus Talong, GG (galunggong fish), Stir-fried Ampalaya (bitter melon), and Pinakbet (vegetables cooked in shrimp paste). Certainly enough for the 5 of us. The verdict: Sinigang- the soup was good- sour just right and with a good bite (hot pepper was cut open). The veggies were still green and crisp. I give it 4 stars The Ampalaya- it was ok. The bitterness just right but I like my veggies crisp and this was a bit over cooked for my taste. Flavor was bland to me. I give it 3 stars. The Pinakbet- veggies were cooked just right. Flavor was rich and good. The drawback was the overly generous oil it was cooked in. Cut out half the oil and this dish would garner 5 stars. But today it's 4 stars. The GG- this fish is usually known as fish for the poor. But I'm told at prices these days, the poor struggle to afford this fish. It had a rich flavor, maybe a bit too fishy. Not my favorite. 2 stars. Tortang Bagus Talong- traditionally this dish is a eggplant skinned after being roasted, then a fork rub through the flesh to flatten the cooked eggplant and then dipped in beated egg and fried. Sentro added bangus fish mixed with the eggplant. I found the bangus overpowering the eggplant. I didn't taste the eggplant at all. I give this dish 3 stars. I like that they tried to create a new dish but the simple flavor of simple dishes sometimes must be preserved as it was intended. All in all the food to me is ok. The ambience was very very nice! But what I found needing real work is their quality of service. They handled our reservation well but after serving the dishes, service just disappeared. There was no follow up on refilling water or checking on what else we might need or want. Strange. As if they just waited for us to ask for the check. And that's exactly what happened. Their other dishes look enticing but the service level just pushes you to try other places before coming back to Sentro.

Calamansi (160 php; brandy, dalandan liqueur, calamansi juice, simple syrup)

Sentro 1771 offers contemporary Filipino cuisine in a modern setting with splashes of Spanish colonial decor. Sinigang is my all time favorite Filipino cuisine, so their *Sinigang na Corned Beef* (Corned Beef Sinigang) was ordered in great anticipation. It did not disappoint! The service here is spectacular too, so they even bring out a "shot" of the tamarind soup base and you let them know if any adjustments will be needed. I know I look like some white girl, but I told them to make that broth more sour! Perfection! The broth was sour and savory to my liking. The corned beef pieces were plentiful and moist. The vegetables were served in abundance too. I did like that most entrees were offered in three different sizes. The "solo" portion for 319.99 php was the perfect portion size for one person so long as I added the side of rice for 50 php. Rice is often not included in any of your entrees in the Philippines. I also ordered *Fried Kesong Puti* which is a soft, lightly salted white cheese made from carabao milk -- and fried. This was reminiscent of lumpia, but with a cheesy pull plus other ingredients. The cocktail menu was another point of interest, so the *Calamansi* brandy based cocktail was ordered. This one was zesty and refreshing as it should be. For 160 php (~$3), this was a steal. Honestly, the entire meal was SO cheap and was only 784.25 php (~$15). The restaurant is hard to find if you don't know where to look. There are 5 Greenbelt mall clusters and all are connected by a "greenbelt" park. This outdoor area is where you'll find most of the restaurants. The outdoor area is also shared by other favorites, Manam and Mesa restaurants. The Greenbelt has more of the interesting restaurants, but the Glorietta mall next door also had some noteworthy spots. Sentro though is a must (alongside Manam). It's more fun in Makati so do check out the restaurants in and around Manila!

One of the best dishes to try Sinigang na Cornbeef!

So far from my trip to the Philippines this February this has been my most favorite restaurant. This is the third time I've been here in three days, so that tells you a lot of how much I appreciate the service, food and ambiance of this restaurant. Sentro is a bit more classy than your regular restaurant in Makati. Price wise it's competitive and affordable. Food of course is great and service is excellent. I highly recommend this place if you go visit Makati, Philippines.

Came in for breakfast. The hot chocolate was delicious, but served in a tiny cup. We ordered various Filipino breakfasts such as champorado with tuyo, beef tapa, longanisa (durog) without the casing--not impressed as it ended being like ground pork, spicy tuyo. The highlight though was the bread with queso puti (carabao milk) with jelly. Don't order pancakes as it took forever, but it was served hot... we poured some hot chocolate and syrup on it to make it amazing for the kids. Sentro is located at the old Chateau 1771 site on the first floor of Greenbelt 5, right outside is the large Swatch watch.

It's crazy how I can remember a lot of my meals I had during my last trip. Traveling alone is awesome especially when I get to explore new places. Sentro is located in Greenbelt 3, 2nd level. I hung out a lot in the Greenbelt area and Sentro was one of my favorite restaurants. I am not a person that would automatically choose Filipino food. I can get Filipino food anytime from my mom's home cooking but it's not often I get to have modern Filipino dishes. I came for lunch and was seated right away. Customer service is always great in the Philippines since they always have so much staff working but you do need to flag someone down and then they come running to you. I ordered the fresh fish spring rolls. There were 8 pieces so it's great as a shared appetizer but it was fine for me as a light lunch. It was delicious! I normally like to eat food plain but it was amazing dipped in vinegar. The fish had so much flavor. I was eyeing dessert during my trip especially at Filipino restaurants. It's very basic what I am used to so I wanted dessert that was presented well and taste amazing. I ordered the fried suman with mangoes. I was in heaven and I didn't want it to end. The coco jam on top was perfect and the suman was divine. Mangoes of course with everything is perfect. Definitely one of the best desserts I had in the PI. It's a great restaurant if you are looking for more of a modern filipino food place.

    corned beef

Other than pork tocino, corned beef is my favorite Filipino breakfast dish. I ordered the corned beef and it came with garlic rice and an egg. This restaurant serves hot chocolate with all their breakfast dishes. Their hot chocolate was insanely rich. I think they just melted a whole chocolate bar and poured it into a cup. The place was super clean and the decor was beautiful! Everything we ordered was delicious!

I had high expectations for Sentro so when we dined on a Friday night with 7 people in our party, I thought I'd be blown away. Not the case. The restaurant was busy, but surprisingly they had a table for 7 ready. Our server was friendly, but it was chaos after the initial greeting. We informed our server that we would share, but our orders came one at a time. They had mojito by the pitcher, but when I asked if they could make me a glass of virgin mojito, the answer was no. We started with the Fried Kesong Puti - simply put, fried cheese curds. It was good with the guava sauce. Then came the Inihaw na Baboy, Crispy Pata (deboned), Steamed Fish, Bagoong Rice, Kare Kare and their famous Sinigang na Corned Beef. The sinigang was way too sour to enjoy. Suffice it to say, we were not wowed. The crispy pata was deboned so it was easy to eat. The inihaw was too greasy, kare kare was nothing special. The steamed fish was different - not sure what kind of fish that was, but it had a weird sauce (not escabeche or with ginger). We had to flag down our server a few times as he was busy with other tables. Service was pretty much non-existent after all the food was at our table. Would I eat here again? Maybe.

Sentro Signature Dishes and Filipino Favourites

The best Filipino restaurant I've been to in Manila in my opinion. I have to thank a friend for recommending this place to us. Their food was amazingly delicious. I would recommend their duck appetizer*, bulalo* and grilled squid. They're located at Greenbelt 3 on one of the upper floors. It's best to get to this mall outside of Makati's peak hours, you'll be caught in a grid lock otherwise if you're driving from another city. This restaurant is spacious. It offers many tables inside and some outside which are all outstanding for small and large groups. Its environment is suitable for kids as well. Washrooms are located in the restaurant. Servers including their manager were friendly and extremely attentive. 'Kept our glasses of water filled. They thanked us upon leaving. *must-have dish

When you go to Sentro, make sure to order the dishes you can't get anywhere else. Don't get me wrong, everything's pretty much on point in Sentro, but don't go there and not order their wonderful Corned Beef Sinigang. Tender chunks of corned beef, cooked to perfection in a wonderfully sour tamarind broth, I don't know why this works but it works so well. You could also go for their deep fried kesong puti balls, which is as indulgent as it sounds, or you could try their organic sisig, which tastes great even as we try to figure out how sisig can be "organic". Sentro 1771 is a safe bet if you want a bit of that Filipino home cooking magic while needing to impress a bit. It's slightly formal and a bit on the pricey side, but the food is good and the ambience is cool.

Staff is friendly. Service is attentive and food is good. I had the grilled sea bream, fresh lumpia with fish adobong kang kong. This place is not trying to reinvent the wheel as much as doing it right.

We stayed at a hotel in Makati so it was really convenient to get to the restaurant. I'm glad there were pedestrian bridges in this car-centric area. It reminds me of the Minneapolis Skyway system. Before we dined at the restaurant we strolled along Greenbelt Park. It was during the weekday. People were at work so it was pretty quiet and relaxing. It was nice to be around nature in this metropolis. I'm sure people who work around this area would come to this park during break. I mean, that's what I would do if I was cooped up in a building all day. We didn't know where Manam was so I walked up to the concierge desk at the mall and asked them. She was helpful and friendly. The host at the restaurant welcomed us and we were brought to a table right away. They tried to put us near the front with a rattling air conditioner. In my head I was like, "Really? How am I supposed to have a decent conversation with my fam with that industrial factory noise?!" I seriously wasn't trying to have a janky restaurant experience. Of course I had to mind my manners because I'm just a visitor from a different country. I wasn't about to start something and get myself in trouble. So I kept those inner thoughts to myself, smiled, and politely asked the host to move us further towards the back. They were able to accommodate us. Our server was friendly. The food was good. A couple of customers next to us ordered the Crispy Pancit Palabok tableside service. They enjoyed the entertainment. We had a smorgasbord of items. The restaurant was advertising their Sinigang na Beef Short Rib & Watermelon so we ordered that. The watermelon flavor was subtle. When we got the bill I was ecstatic. I couldn't believe how affordable brunch was. For food and drinks it was under $25. At home it would have been $50-$60 with tip. Honestly, I'm so glad I got to eat at popular Filipino restaurants like Manam during my Philippines vacation. The closest thing we have to popular Filipino restaurant chains back home is Jollibee and Chowking (obviously fast food restaurants). It was nice to eat Filipino comfort food at a modern restaurant on this trip.

After wandering around for half an hour, we ended up in front of the restaurant. The site I supposed reminded us that it was dinner time already, so we mulled over whether to give the place a try. My sis quickly decided against it because she assumed an empty restaurant must mean bad food. However, I was craving for real Filipino food at that moment (and I was paying), so we ended up inside the restaurant after quickly glancing at the menu. The place was so empty that even the host was out of sight. After a minute or so, the host appeared and we were seated promptly needless to say. We even had a pick of any table! We ended up ordering the bagnet that came with the sour broth on the side, beef adobo, laing, and garlic fried rice with dilis. And as it turned out, we really enjoyed the food! My sister and my mom raved about the bagnet. I liked everything. In conclusion, the place was a hit. Before our staycation ends this Saturday, I would like to back and try out the other dishes.
