Every time I come back to the Philippines, I make it a point to eat here. The food never disappoints. Baby squid in olive oil (ate it before I could take a photo. Oops!), crab relleno, shrimp gambas and their pistachio sans rival my definite favourites. They have an area where you can purchase their pre-packaged snacks and desserts. Their cassava chips are nice and crunchy :) Restaurant is clean and service is good, but the washroom, like most restaurants in the Philippines, do not have change-table facilities for babies.

DINNER FOR 20 WAS A INDULGENT TREAT of Northern Ilokano, Chinese and Spanish Fusion recipes. We must have ordered at least three of each dish. This place just opened two years ago, converted from a corner mansion. We were given a tour of the place, including private banquet rooms on the second floor. It was an awesome experience to enjoy my favorite dishes prepared and re-designed to make the flavors dance be Master Chef Haney Sison. The dessert selection was the highlight. Being diabetic, I had to limit my intake as the cakes were just TOO SWEET. Altogether Excellent service, cleanliness, ample parking, courteous staff, great FOOD!

This cake is life! Mango chocolate cake...forgot the name but it's a "must-try" on the menu :)

Oh my word! If you want Filipino food this is a place I would definitely try. Okay I love kare kare and the kare kare here is bomb. I could eat the sauce alone! The bagnet is also good. Definitely has the right crispiness. Go for the fiesta rice! Has good flavours and pairs up really well with the kare kare sauce. Also ordered some pusit appetizer. The flavours here are on point. Nothing is overfried or dry or too salty, everything is made just right. As for dessert. Um wow. They have a mango-chocolate type of ice cream cake (but no ice cream). I would say it's s better version of Conti's mango bravo. It definitely is a must try item. The bottom layer of the cake is amazinggggggg. The mangoes are delicious. I love this cake that I would have it as my wedding cake. The place itself is colorful, cute and simple. They have two floors, private rooms for big parties and normal tables. I really want to go here with my family. They served all the food at the same time and it came within 30 minutes. The water is good too. They put cucumber and lemon in it. If you want Filipino food this place is great! Good food, colorful atmosphere and at reasonable prices. Try it!

My family and I went to Ilocos last December and it was such a memorable experience for me that I can't wait to go back! The roadtrip to the northern coastline of Luzon was exhausting yet fulfilling. You'd forget all about your aching feet and shoulders once you step foot on the white sand beaches of Pagudpud. And let's not forget the food! Damn, we had Bagnet all day, everyday for the whole duration of our stay! It was very hard for us to say goodbye to Ilocos but we had to leave eventually. The closest thing to Ilocos that we could have and enjoy here in Manila is Victorino's. Upon stepping into the restaurant, you'll be greeted by rustic decor inclusive of jars and ornate wooden shelves lined with the treasures of Ilocos (colorful blankets, woven baskets, straw purses). The food itself is also good. They have all the Ilocano classics and more! We tried their Sinigang na Bangus sa Bayabas, Longganisa Platter, Poqui-Poqui, and of course, Bagnet. The downside is their relatively small servings. Orders that were supposed to be good for sharing in a group turned out to be barely enough. Their Longganisa Platter was not a platter at all. We were expecting a huge plate with lots of different types of longganisa that we could just dig into. Instead, it barely had 7 small pieces. It's a good thing that they make up for it with the taste! Every bite was a delight which took me back to Ilocos, even for just a short while. See you again soon, Victorino's! Hopefully, you too, Ilocos!

I've always wanted to try out Victorino's and when I finally did, I was really blown away with the restauran'ts Ilocano inspired dishes. It's a really good place to take balikbayan relatives to weekday lunch or dinner to, and when we made a visit, my uncle and aunt from the US really liked the food. All the dishes are rich and flavorful and is good for family sharing. Items I've tried include the Pako Salad, which uses pako fern topped with egg, shrimps and tomatoes with a vinaigrette that compliments the salad; Kare-kare, which is stewed ox tail and tripe in richly flavored peanut sauce; Lengua, sliced ox tongue with a flavorful mushroom sauce; and Bagnet, Iloco-style lechon kawali. Among those things I've tried, hands down my favorites would be the lengua and the bagnet. The bagnet was really crispy without too much oil and the lengua was just tender and the sauce was really good - everything really goes well with a hot plate of rice. Apart from the food that Victorino's offers, they also have Ilocano goodies up for sale - frozen meats, sauces, bottled Ilocano condiments and handicrafts. The ambiance itself is also classy and is great for a family lunch. Likewise, their service is top-notch as well - everything we need was served promptly. After this awesome visit at Victorino's, it won't be my last. Will definitely come back fro more lengua and bagnet.

Not the sisig you're familiar with, I'm sure.

Let's be honest. When it comes to fancy eating or Philippine cuisine out of manila, I can be a little clueless. Call me Manila born and bred, I'm guilty. So when they told me we were having lunch at a place normally much higher than my price range and specializing in Ilocano food, I felt like a fish out of water. However, it wasn't as intimidating as I thought it would be. From the minute you step past the front door, there's this certain vibe you get that's reminiscent of stepping into someone's house... if it wasn't for all the stuff displayed on shelves and cabinets. Victorino's is part restaurant, part cafe, part bakery and part souvenir store. From knitted items to pulutan to cakes and bread, there seems to be everything you could ever want to bring home lining the shelves. But that's probably not the main reason people pack the place during lunch. Let's talk about the food. Normally, when you talk about Filipino food, you expect the typical adobo, caldereta, menudo and three kinds of fancy fried rice. That wasn't the case. Victorino's, as I mentioned, specializes in Ilocano food and they do deliver. With a diverse menu covering everything from pork to beef to fish to chicken, there's bound to be something for everyone. Ilocano food too complicated? They also have pizza and pasta. Only came for a little something? Feel free to look through the desert menu. Of course, it's probably not what someone who's Manila born and bred would expect. We ordered their version of sisig to start and while we were expecting what other people normally would (pork chopped into bits with minced onion and peppers), it came to us looking more like kilawin than anything: big pieces of vegetable, pork chunks, definitely not what we were used to delicious all the same. Even if the food doesn't look familiar, you'll find that the taste certainly is. From the poki-poki to the sinigang na hipon, it's no frills Filipino food. That's definitely something closer to home than most people would think.

Poqui-poqui, baby squid adobo and fried catfish.
