    Finally...

[WARNING: LONG REVIEW AHEAD] Ever since stepping foot in the Philippines, I've yet to taste a truly delicious and well-prepared steak; something reminiscent of the ones I used to enjoy back in the good ol' U.S. of A. However, Mamou was a name that always popped up among the top steakhouse lists in the Metro. Ever since then, I've been wanting to visit Mamou and finally, the time came to call them up and make a reservation. The items we ordered were the Mamou's Greens, Lorenzo's Truffle Cream Pasta, Bone-in Ribeye, and the Key Lime Pie for dessert. Starting the meal off with the salad, Mamou's Greens, the girlfriend and I both agreed it was substandard. Bitter greens, maybe only 3 or 4 cherry tomatoes, and a bland vinaigrette to top it all off. We were also served complimentary bread to accompany our salad. However, to my surprise, the bread came out steamy and damp. A sign that the bread was probably microwaved. As I bit into the bread I became even more suspicious as it was very chewy and spongy. At this point, we've only gotten through the appetizers and our meal is already starting out on the wrong foot. The next dish to arrive is the Truffle Cream Pasta and it couldn't have come any sooner. Many recommended this dish and I now see why: the pasta itself is cooked perfectly al dente. The cream sauce is very rich and yet not overly heavy and finishes with a subtle taste of truffle. A great dish, we just wished there was more of it on the plate. Next, the dish I've been waiting so long to taste: our Dry Aged USDA Prime Bone-in Rib eye Steak. We were recommended to get our steak cooked to a "medium rare" doneness and yet when it arrived, it was a bit more on the rare side. Not a huge deal, but when you pay this much for a dish, little things can leave a big impression. Also, I've noticed a few tendencies here at steakhouses in the Philippines. One is how they like to serve your steak to you already cut. Something I personally don't like but it's whatever since it's going to get cut up one way or another. Another is how they like to serve your steak in a puddle of the oil they used to cook the steak. This is something I find pointless and unappetizing. Overall, I liked the steak. However, I'm not trying to start a fight here but I have my doubts that the steak we were served was a USDA Prime grade steak. Biting into the meat, there was no richness of fat that's present in a Prime grade piece of beef. Also, the beef flavor alone was very lacking. I know I'm being very critical but again, when you pay almost 4k for a piece of meat you expect it to be a very high quality piece of meat. Last but not least, the Key Lime Pie ended the meal off on a high note. Perfectly balanced with the right amount of sweetness to tart and the pie filling consistency was smooth and velvety. I enjoyed Mamou and would like to eventually come back here in the future. Regarding the score, I'd love to actually give them 3.5 stars but alas Yelp doesn't do half scores. But for now, it looks like the search for that perfect steak continues... Pros -Service here is top-notch. I swear the waiters are mind readers! On many occasions I'd start to look for a server and one would come be right behind us checking if we needed anything. Cons -Be prepared to spend...A LOT. -Serving sizes here can be underwhelming.

Everything tasted greaaaat especially their steak and best-selling salad! We ate at Mamou Rockwell and were served greatly. Customer service - really commendable!

The rain was falling in sheets when I finally had my long-planned much delayed meal at Mamou Serendra. And as I perused the menu I thought about relationships. There was the one you took to bed, even though you knew you'd regret it the next morning. Or the other one you hid from your friends. And of course the one who was good for you but just didn't turn you on. If only I was talking about lovers and not pints of ice cream, chicharon bulaklak and steamed spinach. Compared with food, romantic partners are relatively simple, yes they can cause you to weep, curse and reach the depths of hell but in hindsight these are things you can walk away from. You and food on the other hand, are stuck for life. So I ordered Mamou's Rib eye steak because I wanted to fulfill my craving for meat and it was as expected, spectacular. It was so good that I skipped dinner, not because I was too full but because just like a lover's kiss I wanted to retain the memory of its taste.

You know those big, fat steak knives they use in some restaurants? Those that don't seem sharp enough and you'll always tire yourself out trying to saw your way through the meat? Well, when they placed that knife in front of me before my steak arrived, I was annoyed. However, when my steak arrived, I finally understood the existence of that damned knife. Mamou's ribeye was so tender and juicy that stupid knife cut right through it with little or no resistance. Even at medium rare, the steak was soft, the fat was buttery, and that crust. Oh, that crust was perfect. We also ordered the truffle pasta which was very creamy and heavier on the stomach than we had anticipated. The meal and the great service means it can get a little pricey but trust me, it's well worth your money!

Their dry aged USDA prime grade bone-in ribeye steak is a must. Very tender and tasty. Lorenzo's truffle cream pasta is also a must. Their side order of creamed spinach and corn pudding is just mediocre. The service is great, they only have about 5 servers servicing one table...even when it's super busy.

From sinigang to steak! My go to in Manila when at the Fort. Feels like home ambiance and the food is relish! Great with friends and colleagues. Never in Manila without a stop at this joint! To top it all....Marquis de Caceres Crianza!

Honestly, I had no idea this place existed, but luckily was paying attention when our driver drove past and I saw a massive line out the door at 1am. Luck would have it our hotel was just around the corner. We walked by one evening and decided it was way to crowded. With over an hour wait and every table filled we also knew pictures inside would be nearly impossible. With a couple hours to spare the morning we were leaving, we walked over after breakfast to check it out and maybe order something small to share. Of course, the desserts caught our eye and the rest was history. 1 massive dessert later, 2 of us could not finish, but throughly enjoyed every bite we ate. A daytime visit was the best choice. We pretty much had the downstairs to ourselves for pictures and several 2nd floor areas were purposely non-seating areas so patrons could take pictures. I could have spent hours here and would definitely return. The collection is unreal. The 50's vibe/atmosphere was on point, and the dessert (the only food I can judge) was delicious. If we had a place like this in Los Angeles, it would be a total hit.

It has a unique gas station theme, with classic cars, memorabilia, and a vintage vibe. They offer American comfort food like burgers, pizza, pasta, and hearty breakfast plates but surprisingly their Filipino favorite dishes are so good. Ordered the hipon (shrimp) sinigang & the sizzling squid. Both were so good. Loved the sauce on the squid. Loved all the veggies in the sinigang especially the okra & kangkong (watercress/morning glory). This place is great for casual dining and late-night cravings. They have a bar for those who want to enjoy a drink while soaking in the retro aesthetic. I stopped in here twice during my stay in the area. I also tried their chicken & waffle. It was really good too. I wish I tried their desserts but I was too full both times. They have merchandise to purchase as well if you need souvenirs. Staff were friendly.

One night, we passed by it and saw that we beat everyone out of their offices and got to the area early. We parked immediately and soaked the glory in for a bit before entering. I personally liked the feel of the place because it was casual but homey at the same time, without being cheesy. With statement posters adorning the walls and chalkboards advertising their specials, I knew I was going to like it here. We decided to share an order of their super duo which had ribs for two and a choice of two side dishes. I was happy to see that they offered spinach as a siding so I got that, while my dad ordered their spiced rice. Goodness gracious, it was good! The meat was tender, almost falling off the bone and their sauce is really good, a good balance of tangy, sweet and smokey flavor. While my Dad got their brewed iced tea, as drink and dessert, I got their chocolate shake which I enjoyed not just because of the taste, but also because of the candy sprinkles and marshmallow toppings. I wouldn't mind a good rub and ribs at Rub Ribs anytime soon.

Do those 2 things correctly and you're 95% on the way to a good burger. I mean, what did the burger ever do to you? Okay, enough of my ranting. I'm just happy to have stumbled across The Beef a few weeks ago. I've been to Hole in the Wall 2 or 3 times already yet I've never tried The Beef. It's an inconspicuous looking black and gray colored shop with a sign stating "The Beef" overhead. Maybe the reason I overlooked it the first few times I visited. Their menu is intriguing because it consists of only 3 items: burger, cheeseburger and fries. I went ahead and ordered a cheeseburger with fries and waited patiently. Little did I know what was waiting for me when I took my first bite into this burger. The burger is delicious and everything I look for in one: juicy, huge beef flavor and I particularly liked the salty, seared crust on the outside. The bun holding the burger appears to be brioche and is soft and spongy, which absorbs all the juices as you consume it. These 2 components alone make this possibly the best burger I've ever tried in Manila. The burger is also dressed with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles and other condiments which only enhance the experience. This thing literally had me daydreaming about it after my first visit and I kept bothering my girlfriend that we had to return and trust me, I will. Pros -One of the best, if not the best, burgers right now in the Metro. -Simple menu. Cons -Pricey. Burger and fries will set you back at least P350. -Fries are meh. Last but not least: Dill pickles on a burger? Yes. Raw cucumber and/or sweet pickles on a burger? NO, just NO. Just wanted to get that off my chest.

That's a big plus for me: getting hot, fast, filling food late at night when you've had a long day. Also, Wendy's really stepped up their game in terms of food choices + prices (Wendy's burgers used to be Php300+; now, a Baconator is like Php200! BIG meal, super savings!). This location is my fave because there are no lines and I can have the whole restaurant to myself (other branches are near call centers, so they are a bit noisy). My order took about 15 minutes which is fairly good considering the amount of food I ordered (LOL!). So, I almost always get the same order: a Chili bowl (I crumble crackers into it so that all the "soup" is soaked up), a Bacon Mushroom Cheeseburger + extra bacon because BACON, a large order of the baked potato with bacon and cheese, a Frosty and a Biggie Iced Tea. I didn't end up getting a salad though, since I wasn't too hungry--I just got a small frosty (like about 9 oz) and a small pocket of fries for P50, which is a great deal, if you ask me.
