It's always a toss up when dining in mall establishments, so I was a bit skeptical when we came here to Mamou Prime. Friends wanted to take us out to try some Prime steak in Manila so why not! A bit of a surprise for the food here. We came with a big group of friends so ordered a variety of plates to share. The Dry-aged bone in steak was decent quality for APAC, but the star here was the truffle cream pasta dish! Like a lot of recommendations from others, the cream pasta is packed full of umami flavors and done just right. The purple rice here was also notably good. Overall a decent mall dining experience. I think I've come to the conclusion that in SEA/APAC a lot of good restaurants and dining experiences are mall centric. read more

We sat outside for their "Al fresco" dinning ambience, for our dinner night out. It was nice and not too warm and humid that night. Let's start off with the best part. The service, everyone was pleasant, and accommodating. You barley have to lift a finger and wait few minutes to be served. The drinks... one of the better places I had an "old fashion" very well done not too strong not watered down. The bread for appetizer was kinda cold and saggy "wet on the bottom" We were here for the steak, and got the rib eye ordered it medium rare, presentation was nice, taste needed more seasoning and quite more searing to be honest. Middle part was cold and the steak ate mostly rubbery. Sad to say I had better steak that were served and prep at mom and pop's hole in a wall diners. And no we are not the ones who send our foods back to get it done again. Unfortunately it left a bad impression for higher end resto and steak houses for us. Will we giving this place another shot? Possibly for their other food in their menus but not the steak. read more

[WARNING: LONG REVIEW AHEAD] Ever since stepping foot in the Philippines, I've yet to taste a truly delicious and well-prepared steak; something reminiscent of the ones I used to enjoy back in the good ol' U.S. of A. However, Mamou was a name that always popped up among the top steakhouse lists in the Metro. Ever since then, I've been wanting to visit Mamou and finally, the time came to call them up and make a reservation. The items we ordered were the Mamou's Greens, Lorenzo's Truffle Cream Pasta, Bone-in Ribeye, and the Key Lime Pie for dessert. Starting the meal off with the salad, Mamou's Greens, the girlfriend and I both agreed it was substandard. Bitter greens, maybe only 3 or 4 cherry tomatoes, and a bland vinaigrette to top it all off. We were also served complimentary bread to accompany our salad. However, to my surprise, the bread came out steamy and damp. A sign that the bread was probably microwaved. As I bit into the bread I became even more suspicious as it was very chewy and spongy. At this point, we've only gotten through the appetizers and our meal is already starting out on the wrong foot. The next dish to arrive is the Truffle Cream Pasta and it couldn't have come any sooner. Many recommended this dish and I now see why: the pasta itself is cooked perfectly al dente. The cream sauce is very rich and yet not overly heavy and finishes with a subtle taste of truffle. A great dish, we just wished there was more of it on the plate. Next, the dish I've been waiting so long to taste: our Dry Aged USDA Prime Bone-in Rib eye Steak. We were recommended to get our steak cooked to a "medium rare" doneness and yet when it arrived, it was a bit more on the rare side. Not a huge deal, but when you pay this much for a dish, little things can leave a big impression. Also, I've noticed a few tendencies here at steakhouses in the Philippines. One is how they like to serve your steak to you already cut. Something I personally don't like but it's whatever since it's going to get cut up one way or another. Another is how they like to serve your steak in a puddle of the oil they used to cook the steak. This is something I find pointless and unappetizing. Overall, I liked the steak. However, I'm not trying to start a fight here but I have my doubts that the steak we were served was a USDA Prime grade steak. Biting into the meat, there was no richness of fat that's present in a Prime grade piece of beef. Also, the beef flavor alone was very lacking. I know I'm being very critical but again, when you pay almost 4k for a piece of meat you expect it to be a very high quality piece of meat. Last but not least, the Key Lime Pie ended the meal off on a high note. Perfectly balanced with the right amount of sweetness to tart and the pie filling consistency was smooth and velvety. I enjoyed Mamou and would like to eventually come back here in the future. Regarding the score, I'd love to actually give them 3.5 stars but alas Yelp doesn't do half scores. But for now, it looks like the search for that perfect steak continues... Pros -Service here is top-notch. I swear the waiters are mind readers! On many occasions I'd start to look for a server and one would come be right behind us checking if we needed anything. Cons -Be prepared to spend...A LOT. -Serving sizes here can be underwhelming. read more

The rain was falling in sheets when I finally had my long-planned much delayed meal at Mamou Serendra. And as I perused the menu I thought about relationships. There was the one you took to bed, even though you knew you'd regret it the next morning. Or the other one you hid from your friends. And of course the one who was good for you but just didn't turn you on. If only I was talking about lovers and not pints of ice cream, chicharon bulaklak and steamed spinach. Compared with food, romantic partners are relatively simple, yes they can cause you to weep, curse and reach the depths of hell but in hindsight these are things you can walk away from. You and food on the other hand, are stuck for life. So I ordered Mamou's Rib eye steak because I wanted to fulfill my craving for meat and it was as expected, spectacular. You know those big, fat steak knives they use in some restaurants? Those that don't seem sharp enough and you'll always tire yourself out trying to saw your way through the meat? Well, when they placed that knife in front of me before my steak arrived, I was annoyed. However, when my steak arrived, I finally understood the existence of that damned knife. Mamou's ribeye was so tender and juicy that stupid knife cut right through it with little or no resistance. Even at medium rare, the steak was soft, the fat was buttery, and that crust. Oh, that crust was perfect. We also ordered the truffle pasta which was very creamy and heavier on the stomach than we had anticipated. The meal and the great service means it can get a little pricey but trust me, it's well worth your money! read more

Mamou has a reputation for serving exceptional steaks, and that reputation is well justified. The venue hums with a high-energy vibe that projects comfort. On my last visit, I chose a porterhouse steak as my entrée. It came with corn pudding and creamed spinach. I ordered my steak cooked medium-rare, and it was cooked to my exact specification. The steak was nicely marbled and seasoned quite nicely. The portion size was large enough that even though I shared half of the dish with my friend, we could barely finish it. The corn pudding and creamed spinach sides were nicely presented, and went well with the steak. Other times, I've had several "small treasures" from their appetizer list, including crispy pork strips and palm spring rolls. Both of these dishes have interesting textures, nice flavor contrasts, and are served with both vinegar and hot/sweet chili sauce - delishous! Their must order items include their juicy, mouth watering steak, as well as their Lorenzo's Truffle Cream Pasta. Pair this with one of their many delicious salads, and you have yourself a winning meal. Although it doesn't come cheap, every last penny (and bite) is worth it. Everything from appetizers, to pasta dishes, to main dishes are always a big success. Aside from their steak, their lamb tapa is a must try as well. Apparently, Mamou was featured in the New York Times (where my guest was from) and its kurobota singing was unsurprisingly highlighted. Whenever I hear of a restaurant's name, I always want to know the meaning of the name. So I googled Mamou to find out what it meant, and the only thing I found was the restaurant itself, as well as musicians Cheb and Chiekh Mamou. The latter two were gloriously mustached, but there was no way to tell what kind of music they made without putting more effort into my research. However, the presence of a mustache in Mamou's logo combined with Cheb and Chiekh's chin fur has convinced me that there must be some sort of relation. Google image search juxtaposes steaks with these IDGAF looking dudes in a very powerful image. That hasn't enlightened me at all about Mamou's backstory, but I actually do listen to some music from the region. I've tried to find a good steak in Manila for quite some time and thanks to Yelp I found it. Wow was the porterhouse good. Excellent cut of beef packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. The steak came with two sides which were quite small. The only thing I didn't like is that I had ordered a vodka martini without vermouth and what I got was a glass full of vermouth. The steaks at Mamou are fantastic. They're made extra juicy and packed with flavor, these steaks are fatty and salty in just the perfect amounts. I love how their steak is done and I love eating it with another Mamou favorite of mine, their truffle pasta. The truffle pasta at Mamou is done really really simply. The presented us with the pasta and my mom went, "Yan na yun?" but wow yun is all you need! The pasta is made with a white sauce, the amount just right, each strand is coated perfectly. Truffle is one of my favorite flavors and this really comes through in the pasta, everything is just right and it is a perfect compliment to the steak.
