It is in an ancestral home across Malacañang Palace. They have a lovely entry way with bamboo and a fountain. It is very close to the Shrine of St. Michael Archangels. We had a wonderful lunch after mass with the extended family. Desserts were also good. We tried the chocolate cake and frozen lemon soufflé. YUM.

So it was a no-brainer for us to celebrate the birthday of one of us at Casa Roces. It definitely feels like an elegant ancestral house, especially the second floor, which we took an informal tour of too, through the help of the staff. The furniture and decor took us back in time. Later, I found out that the tables and chairs on the second floor are still used for meetings, one room of which is P-Noy's usual meeting room. The garden patio and the dining area of the restaurant are especially beautiful and romantic at night, when they are bathed in a soft yellow glow from the lights. I ordered the mushroom pasta, delicious and filling, with the serving just a little more than enough for one. The smoky and fresh flavor of the roasted tomato soup is also a winner. Being a pesca-vegetarian, I didn't get to taste the lengua, which is the restaurant's bestseller, and which friends attest to. We surprised the birthday celebrant with Casa Roces' best-selling chocolate caramel cake.

The dim sum cart came around quick, and we loaded up on hakaw, siu mai, char siu bao, and those amazing crispy taro puffs--everything was hot, fresh, and tasted just like the old-school spots back home. The spare ribs were tender and saucy, not overly sweet, and the yang chow fried rice had that perfect wok hei. Service was friendly even though it was packed; our server made sure we had hot tea refills without us asking. Super affordable too--we fed six of us and still had leftovers for under 2k. Total comfort food win. Definitely heading back next time we're in the area. Five stars all the way!

I can summarily declare that all the items we ordered were below our culinary standards in the following order from worst to not so bad. HK style fried noodles, the sauce was peanuty tasting poured over noodles. Horrible looking. The congee is not very appealing to the eyes and the palate. The duck was bony. The congee itself was barely hot. Siomai was no good either. The roasted duck with rice again lacking presentation appeal. The tofu skin roll is ok thus the 2 star. The waiter was very green. Served our sodas without glasses. Avoid and don't believe the hype.

Week Day Lunch for just over CAD$65 (2700 pesos), I would definitely say it is worth every penny. Buffet is spread over a large dining area with separate stations for major cuisines from around the world. Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Italian, American, Mexican, Mediterranean, Burger, Wings, Wraps, Sushi, Pizza, Pasta, Variety of International Cheeses, Fresh Oysters, Seafood section, Carving station, Variety of Salads and most of all my favorite a Huge Desert section. Well laid out buffet with beautiful presentation. Those cute little individual portions of appetizers & desserts in shot glasses and Chinese porcelain spoons are not only delicious, they are eye-pleasing. Serving staff are so attentive, you feel like you have your own dedicated staff just to serve you and your guests. During our lunch, never our glasses were neither empty nor single dirty plate on the table. Our glasses were constantly filled and plates were removed as soon as they are done. Restaurant hostesses at the front of the house were reminded me of Air Hostesses of 70s, classic, elegant, sophisticated. I can keep going on and on, but to summarize in one word, Café Ilang Ilang is "Exquisite".

The service was nice and quick both when at the table and going through the buffet lines. There is a lot of tables so it can be a little loud and I'd recommend getting there early as it does fill up. The food itself was pretty tasty! If you're from abroad, it's a nice introduction to a lot of Filipino food while also providing comfort food for other cultures. Would recommend getting authentic Filipino cuisine elsewhere but still a nice option
