There's something special about the feeling of buying your food in the market, having it cooked and…read morefeasting on it right away. This kind of experience is what the Original Dampa market offers for those who want to enjoy good food without hurting their pockets too much. The original dampa market is a compound with different stalls/restaurants offering basically the same kind of food for customers. It's a place where you can make "paluto" whatever you just bought at the conjoining wet market. You have an option to buy from the wet market whatever you wish to eat (which can get your a lower cost) or ask the staff from the restaurant to buy (but of course this will have a slight markup on the cost). I suggest you go for option A at least once just for the experience of getting to haggle with the vendors to give you a lower price. One place I have tried is called Jagz, which is the 3rd restaurant to your right as soon as you enter the compound. We bought from the wet market ourselves the following: Pork Liempo, Shrimps and Mussels and had it cooked right away in the restaurant. While waiting for the food to be cooked, cracker nuts were offered to us as appetizers. We opted for the Pork Liempo to be grilled, our shrimp to be tossed in garlic and butter (my ultimate fave!) and the mussels baked in garlic, butter and cheese. The buttered shrimp was super good, especially if you got big shrimps from the market. It had just the right amount of flavour! I got to eat about half of this! Hahaha. The baked mussels were also good as a generous amount of cheese was placed on top! Having baked mussels in the Metro can be a challenge since not a lot of restos offer these. The grilled pork liempo was perfectly grilled as well! I definitely enjoyed my trip here! For drinks, they have sodas in can, juice in can and bottle and for the big families, they also have 1.5 L bottle of sodas. The place is airconditioned with 2 tv sets, both with cable so you can also watch while eating. Beer is also available and you can also bring in your own hard drinks, although you need to pay a corkage fee. If you want to belt out a couple of songs, a karaoke machine is also available. Parking is also available just in front of the restaurant though during weekends, this might be a problem. Budget is around Php 1,000 - Php 1,500 for 2 (depends on the quantity of the food you will buy in the market) as this will also be the basis on the charge of their "paluto".

We have a bit of a wait as we came during dinner time rush. They don't give you a time on how much the wait is, only how many people are ahead of you. We we're seated right away and was given a menu (photo) book. The presentation there were eye catching and entices first timer to try their food menu. We already know what to get so we ordered right away. House Crispy Sisig- it sure is Crispy and very flavorful served on a sizzling plate. These serving was enough for 4 people Sinigang Short Rib w/ Watermelon- one of their famous and favorite food in the menu. First, this is an acquired taste and it's not for everyone's palate. It has a sweet, slimy soup texture and not enough sourness to it. I'll definitely skip this one if I come back to this place. Crispy Pancit Palabok- also one of their menu favorites. They will pour and mix your order tableseide so you can enjoy it afterwards. The sauce was shrimpy and garlicky. I thought the amount of sauce weren't enough to cover the crispy noodles, but I was wrong. It ended up drowning in sauce which I love when eating palabok. This was delectable and a must try. Inihaw na Baboy- tender, Pork belly pieces. It has a right amount of char and seasoning that goes well with the white rice. I wanted to try their Laing, but it was sold out that day :( It also helped that we pre-ordered while we wait for our table so we just ordered our drinks when we we're finally on our table. The service was great, attentive to your food allergies and always checking your needs. If you want to try Filipino food then this place can be on your list to explore.

For a PhP 6,500/head dinner, I expected seamless service and premium quality, neither of which were fully realized. The Ambience: We arrived at 4:30 PM for the 5:00 PM seating, only to find no staff at the front desk and no lounge area for early arrivals. The place was literally closed and opened on the dot, 5pm! The lack of a dress code (there was a diner in shorts) and the non-festive music made it feel like a casual Tuesday rather than a special occasion. While the varnished wood tables look nice, they lack the refinement of fine dining; condensation from drinks pooled easily on the surface. The Service: Despite the restaurant being only half-full, the wine service was sluggish there were multiple times when I had to think if the staff was expecting me to stand up and grab the bottle of wine and pour it to the glass myself, there was even a time when the staff attempted to clear my plate while my wife was still eating--a basic fine-dining faux pas. The Food: This was the biggest letdown. The crackers tasted stale, the lobster bisque lacked body, and the squid sushi was bland. Most disappointing were the mains: the fish skin was rubbery, and the Wagyu was overpowered by an overly tangy sauce. Even the desserts felt repetitive in flavor. It's hard to recommend this Omakase when the execution doesn't match the price point.

Compared to others in NYC, LA, OC, Greece, etc, this one was not my top pick for some reason. The vibe and service was so so, and so does the foods. Cocktails are also just so so...I noticed that in Asian, besides HK & Japan, Sing & Thailand, not so much of good mixers. Overall it was just okey place.

That was my life then and since I didn't know anything else nor had anything to compare it to, I didn't think I had it any less. Imagine my happiness when I was faced with items on a menu I knew nothing about. Tuna tartare with mango and cilantro, homemade foie gras (only learned to pronounce it correctly that day), watermelon gazpacho and glasses of wine- it was heavenly; so heavenly that I went to bed that day thinking about my next meal, one that would be so good it would cost a quarter of my salary.

Maybe you would be inclined to sit a little longer and be inspired to read a book... or even write some poetry? Find a nice corner by the window (fingers crossed you're not sitting beside a rowdy family), and you're off to a blissful meal or even a coffee or a drink. A great place not only for brunch but to have a relaxed meeting or a casual date. Prices are expensive but worth every penny for the view.
