Definitely one of the best places to buy German groceries in Southern California. They have a wonderful selection of fresh made sausages and deli meats and they are so delicious. The bread is fantastic, especially the Farmers (Bauernbrot). Make sure to try the fresh baked pretzels and one of their pastries. My husband loves the Black Forrest Cake, my favorite is the Bienenstich. If you are looking for the European chocolates you cannot find anywhere else, they have them. Kinderschokolade, Ritter Sport, Reber and Manner (Austria), Bahlsen Kekse, Haribo Gummibears, and the yummy chocolates with the cherry likor inside (Mon Cherrie). The real star here is the deli. The bakery looked okay, though I didn't try anything this time. The grocery was interesting, but being a regular at other ethnic groceries, there wasn't anything that was super unique, and most of what they had is cheaper from other shops that import their items. The deli though - you NEED the German buttercheese. Seriously, one of the creamiest, mild cheeses I have ever had - absolutely amazing! AND I have never seen it anywhere else, which is usually an indication that it's special. All the cheeses I sampled were delicious, and I would definitely try more next time. If you are into meats and sausages, they looked great too (though again, I didn't try any.) Overall, I would come here for the deli and fresh foods, but when it comes to packaged imports, I might try elsewhere if you are looking for a deal. We went here today in search of some German snacks and goodies, and figured we would grab a bite to eat while visiting. The little market is cure, and actually has a pretty impressive selection! We were started with a basket with some rye bread. It was cold and not very interesting, but not too bad. Glancing over the menu, I was most intrigued by the schnitzels, as they have always slunded good to me. Simple and safe for someone who doesn't like crazy new things. I ended up ordering the Zigeunerschnitzel with sides of German potato salad and cucumber salad. The schnitzel was amazing! So flavorful, not spicy, and just very good overall. The German potato salad was also tasty, though I don't know anything of its authenticity. It is mustard based instead of mayonnaise based, which was a welcome change. The cucumber salad consisted mainly of thinly shaved cucumbers, dill, and bits of onion. It was alright, but not something I would care to order again. My fiance had the strawberry melon salad, and he enjoyed it very much. Before leaving, we were sure to grab a slice of apple strudel, which we have yet to try. This whole "Whoohoo! As good as it gets!" is pathetic, because it's sad that this is the best that it gets in Southern California. Sometimes I wish I lived in the Midwest, where a large German heritage keeps the foods and traditions from my childhood alive. But alas, I guess it's a fair trade for the epic amounts of Mexican food around here. Anyway, my family and I have been making the 30+ minute drive here sporadically since we moved to SoCal a decade ago - which means we get the best German breads, fixings, and everything else like once a month. My favorite is the Bauernbrot, which is the brown bread that comes whole or sliced. German rolls are good too, naturally. And if you want something authentic from the deli, try the Fleischsalad! OK, so it's labor day weekend and since I skipped the end of the month breakfast outing with my son last weekend, I decided to go this weekend instead. The last place, he chose, so this time it was my turn. I chose Old World German Restaurant. Well, we actually ate in the deli section at one of the four tables set up there. They have self-service hot tea and coffee, and their breakfast menu is quite simple but just right and the prices were great. I had breakfast plate #4 with ham and 2 eggs, your choice of fried potatoes or hash browns and that comes with toast. He drank orange juice for $1.50 , my hot tea was $1.00. The entire check was $16?? Are you kidding me? That breakfast was GREAT! Afterwards, we checked out the groceries for sale. I have never seen so many different kinds of Haribo in sale in one place - that was cool. And the beers and mustards section were interesting to me as well. FINALLY I found a bakery in O.C. that has delicious pastries and wonderfully charming atmosphere. I bought the large Apple Strudel and after sharing it with my boyfriend we are already planning our next trip back for more. It is so light and yummy and not too sweet, really just perfect flavors of pastry and apple and there's a light sprinkling of slivered almonds throughout that all together create a delightful bit of heaven on a plate. The market is super cute and everyone who works there is very freindly. Oh and we got a soft pretzel to share before dinner and it was the BEST soft pretzel I have ever tried...DELICIOUS!!! I HEART this place!!! We also ate at the Old World Restaurant which is connected to the Market. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting and you really just felt like you were at home in your own Bavarian cottage chatting away with friends and family over a great meal. The food was excellent, you must try the German bread it was amazing. The black forest cake was divine too and not too heavy after a great meal. Contrary to our negative view of the food we ate at Old World German Restaurant, our impression of the Old World German Bakery, located under the same roof, was totally favorable. The few pastries we brought home, including their version of Apple Strudel, and various pastries, plus their daily freshly baked Farmer's Bread, among several others which we did not partake, perhaps fearing that since the restaurant experience had lacked true excellence in representing the very tasty German Cuisine (is the term Cuisine, a little far fetched, when you are only trying sausages, wieners, and schnitzels? Or are these delectable foods as deserving as a Bouillabaisse, per say? No pun intended, just honest curiosity) we assumed, incorrectly as we soon found out, that their bakery department, and perhaps as well, the Deli section, that displayed several goodies, was going to disappoint. Starting by the nice Simoene?, and the $30 plus we bought, the Farmer's Bread very good, we admit here and now, that we would purchase again, if only it was not the new year, and our assertive collective commitments to cut down on all the good stuff, was not so easy to break! Health or no health. I wanted fresh Pumpernickel bread, which apparently is a tall order, and is hard to come by, specially a good one. They had the pre packaged varieties, but it has been my experience, that by the time they clear customs, and arrive to a shelf near me, quality has decreased accordingly, but can anyone imagine, a freshly made that tasted just as good. Germans are very strict on conserving the rules of several food products they are famous for, and Pumpernickel bread is no exception. What a gem. We were traveling from WA and had intentions to hit our local Hess Deli for lunch makings for Disneyland. We didn't get a chance to stop and we're looking for a good Anaheim deli. What an impressive spot!! We got all the meats, cheeses, rolls, mustards, candies, and beer we needed. The rye was a bit heavier than we normally get at home but they had a farmer loaf we should have tried. Pretzels were sold out but we were near the end day so get there early. We even went back before flying out. The Costco next door has all the good wine and the Vans store is cool with a skatepark behind it. Definitely a good visit. Whilst awaiting my food order at the Old World Restaurant, I wandered into the Euro Market Bakery & Deli. Small scale, but filled with all kinds of goodies that reminded me of my trip to Germany last year. You'll find a good variety of chocolates, German wine, German beer, lots of different sausages and euro deli meats (the German Head-Cheese looked scary...), and of course the freshly baked bread. Service was very friendly and helpful! I was able to locate some Komis bread which is a sourdough-rye type of bread as well as some Griebenschmalz which is a traditional spread used in Germany made from rendered pork or goose fat. (Goose is available in the wintertime) I know it sounds weird, and it's probably an instant heart attack formula, but oh it tastes so good. Freshly baked bread, some Griebenschmalz, and a sprinkle of salt... wash it all down with a glass of Warsteiner and you are set. read more

I admit I don't like anything else in Old World but this market .. I think the restaurant is poo (sorry Kendo!!!) and I believe in doing what the cute little old German guys do. Buy your sausage at the deli and a loaf of bread, sit down at the little table there by the bakery or in the bar and chow down on something tasty. This market is fabulous, having everything scrummy from Germany, Austria, Poland and *happy sigh* Hungary. You can get everything from liquors, sweets, salads, spaetzle mix (and a spaetzle maker if you are lazy) to fresh baked breads, strudels, and some of the best sausages and cold cuts in the OC. I always hit this place once a month and I recommend that you have to try the following: Gyulai (pron. dyoo-la-ee), a lovely Hungarian sausage that is heavy on the paprika and garlic. Bratwurst Wieners Debrezieners (a hard pork and garlic sausage) their Bologna. Dear God, this bologna is as far from Oscar Meyers as a pinto is to a ferrari. Give it a taste and you will see what I mean. Their fresh baked seedless rye bread. Mmmmm. Apple strudel. Mmmmm. The nice thing about this place is that everyone is super friendly and helpful and if you are curious about anything in the deli case, they are more than happy to give you samples. Oh, and a tip. Before you finish checking out they have this box full of little bottle shaped chocolates called Ashbachuralt (sp?!?). It is two of man's greatest inventions combined - dark chocolate and velvety smooth brandy. Seriously, snag yourself about 2 of these and savor slowly, you will thank me later. read more

My rating is for today's service only. I usually come to this location once a week on Saturday's. Saturday's service is always great. This week was the first time I went on a weekday (Tuesday). I ordered 20 Brotechen and she wrapped them in a trash-bag. I always get them in the regular plastic bag that fits 5. No she pulled out a giant trash-bag which i thought was odd. When it was time to pay she try to charge me for $70 for some Broetchen and some small items. I had to point out out to her that she is overcharging me and that I observed her charging me $26 for 20 Broetchen. She canceled the 1st transaction and re-keyed the transaction a second time this time she overcharged me for the Kaisers which are 30 cents she tried to charge me 75 cents. I pointed out that she overcharged me so she cleared the transaction a second time and charged me wrong price again this time 40 cents. I pointed out that she overcharged me that they are 30 cents not 40 and instate of apologized she gave me attitude and told me you told me 40 cents. Due to time restrains I just paid. I understand that new Team Members might don't retain pricing. What brought me to write this review was the nasty attitude. She also failed to charge me for the paper-bag which could result in a nasty fine for the store if caught. read more

my rating is for the wedding cake service only here is their website http://www.oldworld.ws/wedding-cakes-orange-county.html my fiance and i looked at the website online prior to going in to talk to the consultant (by the way, last year they got a new wedding cake husband wife team), so we had kind of an idea of what the pricing would be and the selection of flavors. we went in to the bakery to find out more, but they told us to come back and to book a consultation with the lady, so we did. we ended up coming back to meet with her and she showed us a book of cakes they had done before, and gave a general idea in terms of pricing (i think it was around $700 for 300 people). that was good. i guess i give them 2 stars because the 2 stars denotes "Meh. I've experienced better." and I have. When we met with her, she basically told us that we can't try any cake until we're ready to book. What? Why would you expect us to book on the day of tasting the cake? Although, I guess if you do the samples and don't like it, you dont reaaaalllyyy have to, but.... that's awkward. Don't put people in that position, haha. :P If you're planning on doing a wedding cake, I suggest that you look for a place that you get to try the cake before you're expected to book it. :) read more

I love ordering food from the meat counter. They have a fantastic array of sausages which make a great alternative to the usual hot dogs. I haven't ordered sandwiches there, but the deli meats all look fresh and appetizing. I love their fresh bread too. Bread is baked fresh daily and will actually get stale a few days later (unlike the preservative laden stuff you get at the grocery store). If authentic german sausages are what you're after, this is the place to go. The ladies there will even tell you how to boil them before grilling for the best texture/flavor. read more

We stumbled upon this gem while searching for a local deli. What a boon! Aggi took our order of 2 sandwiches, 2 pastries, and 2 coffees. The sausage and sauerkraut sandwich was super yummy and reminded me of Germany. The cold cut sandwich was also good, very generously portioned.
