Being in a small town you go to places like GMT hoping to get a fair price and good service rather than dealer prices. I took my car in with battery issues. Ended up with a new alternator at over $1400 and brought it home. When I opened up the trunk, I noticed they had not put the battery cover back together and the battery was exposed. A day or 2 later, the engine starting making an awful noise. Upon looking under the hood, I saw that one of the engine covers had slid down and was lodged in the engine. I didn't pay for the alternator until we could work something out on the poor quality of the service and determining if the noise it was making was from damage they did, the slipped engine cover or something else. Instead of working through the service issues, the shop owner demanded payment and refused to let me leave with the car. He said I had committed grand theft and that he had called the police. I am a professional, mom with 3 teenagers. Not someone you need to call the police on, the owner just did that to intimidate me. I had the money to pay the bill, I just wanted him to address the poor service and rather than do that, he called the police and kept my car. The police officer that came told me that the shop owner should not have called them and he did not need to be there and was very sympathetic. This happened on a Thursday, I got cash and picked up the car on Monday. The office manager gave me a discount (which had never been offered by the owner) for paying with cash. I took my car. Needless to say we never resolved the poor service nor the damage to the car from their negligence. I am having the car evaluated to see what caused the damage. I would only recommend you go to this shop if you know enough about your car to keep them honest. They cannot be relied on to be trustworthy. Research your part costs and what the service hours should be and be an informed customer. Or find another shop frankly. I also had called the Dealer in town and was quoted a better price than what this shop gave on the alternator. So you aren't saving any money at GMT and you don't get a loaner car. Buyer beware .... shops like this are supposed to be an alternative to high dealer prices. In Bend, the dealer will likely be a better option because you are dealing with a large corporation on service quality rather than a guy who owns a shop ( a guy who comes unhinged). I cannot recommend GMT over the dealer in Bend. read more

The absolute best VW service shop in town!!! HANDS DOWN! I recently took my VW Touareg into the Bend dealership for a headlight that stopped working. I was told that they needed to replace the entire headlight bracket and take off my front bumper, for a cost of $850. Discouraged, I decided to shop around and get another quote. I took my car into German Master Tech (a place I had visited only once before), and was greeted by Scott, who immediately took my keys and said their technician would take a look. I didn't need to make an appointment or come back in--so easy! Already I was impressed! After only a couple minutes, Scott returned and said the technician was able to remove the bracket no problem and was in the process of putting in a new lightbulb. And then the best part.... the cost was only $22!!!!! I was so stunned I stared at him for a moment, like he was kidding. I went from thinking I was going to spend $850, to only spending $22. I had heard that German Master Tech was an honest, professional shop, and now I see why. They aren't looking to upsell you parts and service you don't need. It's just good old fashioned customer service in a friendly atmosphere! This is absolutely my new service shop and will be recommending to all my friends with German cars. Obviously I know my car repairs won't always be this cheap, VW's have a tendency to be more expensive, but it's the knowledge and assurance that they aren't trying to gouge me. I am now a loyal German Master Tech customer, and I won't be going anywhere else. 5 stars doesn't do justice to how incredible these guys are! read more

I have nothing but GREAT things to say about German Master Tech. They are beyond a doubt the most professional and attentive team of automotive service individuals I have ever had the pleasure to experience. I have a BMW x3 that has a serious problem that was diagnosed by the dealership, was beyond the warranty and that was going to cost a lot of money to repair. Tim heard my experience, had me bring the car in, confirmed the diagnosis and offered to do the repair at a much lower cost than the dealership, only to find out, after doing quite a bit of research into this issue, that the repair was more extensive than he had anticipated. With a great deal of sensitivity and support he suggested I go to bat for myself with BMW USA to see if they would extend some Goodwill and either pay for all or part of the repair through the dealership, in spite of being over warranty. He was saying, he'd rather see me get the repair at a lower cost, than have the business himself. Now, I gotta say, that's an ethical stance one rarely sees in business. So, BMW is paying for 35% of the cost of the repair (I wish it were more, but I'll take it!) and I will have to have the dealership do the work. But, German Master Tech has earned my confidence and will be seeing me any time in the future when my car needs some attention. I can't say enough good things about how incredibly communicative, sensitive, informed and helpful Tim was and how professional a shop he runs! read more

They are more expensive than the dealer, you are better off going to Kendall motors! Most of there employees have been stolen from Kendall. The service writer who greets you came also from Kendall and should have been fired from there, he is an absolute shyster! Stay away from the dealer alternative in this case. I wish I did not have to report this as it would be nice to find one, however they are not it! Update: i went back as Tim(the owner) wanted to make things right, it went along fine for a short bit and had some more work done there and realized that Tim was just trying to get my review removed, that is all!! He will respond to this by saying either look at my reviews or that I am a do it yourselfer?? Which in either case I invite all to look at my reviews and that I only do maintenance items. Oil changes, minor troubleshooting, they would like you to bring it in for absolutely everything as they get $120 every time it gets logged in by Scott! Go to German AutoVerks or Kendall as you will be treated much better and with customer service and a price that is much easier to digest. read more

I've had a 1972 BMW bavaria since 1988 when it was given to us as a wedding present. Since then, I've spent countless hours working on this old car and learning more than just a thing or two about old BMWs. So when my son's "new" 1989 325i started having a coolant leak problem, I turned to Tim for the first time to get to the bottom of it. Tim and Robert (the primary mechanic on the case) methodically started eliminating existing problems in the vehicle's cooling system, taking care to look at any other services that could be done easily along the journey to the head gasket, such as replacing the timing belt when they were already replacing the water pump. The result is that my son can enjoy his car again without worrying about his cooling system or engine. To be clear, the problems with this car were multiple and a little bit tricky, but Tim and Robert got to the bottom of it where a less patient, less experienced mechanic might have simply thrown expensive parts at the problem until it hopefully went away. We have a 2001 BMW 530i with a 125,000 miles on it. We had to make a decision to buy a new car or get some needed work on this great car - after we decided "they don't make them like they use to", we decided to have Tim at German Master Tech work with us on "renovating" the 2001. After inspecting the car, Tim gave us a list of "value packages" he recommended to pursue. We are about 3/4 through the process now which has included reconditioning the cooling system, intake system, front and rear suspension shocks and struts (my wife says it now drives like when it was new) and a new ABS module which he diagnosed was the problem when we were getting the fault light coming on intermittently. The communications has been great, estimates and costs accurate and the professional, quality service we have received from his shop crew has been outstanding. BMW X-5 leveler warning light flashed on road trip from Seattle to Central Oregon. Went through Yelp Indy shops in Bend Yelp and stopped into German Master Tech to see if they could fix it. Scott diagnosed the car, reset the fault codes and gave me a very fair quote all in the span of 15 minutes. Very accommodating since I had no appointment. Turned out to be air bags supporting the rear end suspension system. Timing didn't allow us to get the car repaired there but should have...Drove car with poor suspension, (very bumpy ride) back to Seattle for repair. Should have stayed another day in Bend and done it with German Master Tech. Just a pleasure to see such straightforward business practices for out of town first time potential customers. read more

I was referred to German Master Tech by Joel at Coach Automotive Restyling of Oregon to reset the airbag sensors on my new Mercedes GL450. The location was easy to find, I pulled right up 10 min before 8am and they already had the doors open and people waiting to help me. I walked in and within 30 seconds I had the attention of a specialist. The gentleman came out to my vehicle hooked up his computer and within 1 minute my sensors were reset. I was in an out in less then 4 minutes. I have to say the professional and friendly atmosphere and people there sure made for a pleasant experience. I just wanted to say that these folks are awesome. Totally above and beyond. Tim Morris really had my back in a struggle over who can do Warranty service on my BMW. Seems the dealer has a clause saying only they can do the extended warranty service on this used X5. While I wasn't able to have GMT do the service at this time, Tim actually coached me to understand the mechanical issues and what to expect out of customer service in order to get my X5 properly repaired. All of this advice and service without expecting a dime. Awful!! Over charged us diagnosed our car and it was wrong!! Just wanted more money! I do not recommend this place at all!! All ex Kendall employees and we're the troubled ones clear reason of why they had to go elsewhere don't let them over charge you and take your money!! Better off going to Kendall!! By far the most knowledgeable German car shop anywhere near Bend, and that includes the dealers. I've had several interactions with the dealers in town, and their first priority is always getting you to spend more money, sometimes without completely addressing the problems. Tim Morris is exceptionally well-versed in BMW, Mercedes and Porsche repairs. He takes the time to fully explain all issues and options, making recommendations based on what makes the most sense for the individual car and owner. I will never spend another dime at the dealer. Amazing transformation of my 2001 325xi with 198,000 miles on the odometer. My suspension was tired from too many winter drives to the mountain in all types of conditions. Tim suggested that replacing the factory springs and shocks with Eibach springs and Koni shocks would make a big improvement. Wow!!! The ride and handling improvements are "over the top" fantastic. Crisp handling with a smoother ride than the factory setup! Who knew a 16 year old car with nearly 200K miles would handle so well for a very affordable investment.
