Received a prompt ride to work from the shop. When additional issues arose with oil leaking, Sami provided a comprehensive estimate and reasons, also promising same day service. Car was ready as promised by COB and another prompt ride back to the shop. Service with a smile, and a hand washed and vacuumed vehicle to boot. Superb service in every way. Scheduled my appointment and dropped my 2003 Saab off the night before as German Auto Group (GAG) has a convenient night drop available. Got a call from Tim the next morning to review the needed repairs and the estimated costs. Tim gave me the ETA for completion of the job as well. The work was completed within the time frame suggested, the final repair bill was slightly less than expected and, as they always do at GAG, the car was washed and vacuumed when their work was done. This was my 4th or 5th visit to GAG and the service experience is always the same - consistent, excellent customer service, competent workmanship, no surprises. No one else can, not even the local dealer where I got it new in 2003. I'd like to be a counterpoint to all the negative reviews here, much of which seem a case of miscommunication. That doesn't mean GAG doesn't share some of the blame - but shouldn't get all of it & 1 star ratings. I don't typically write reviews, but thought it was needed & warranted here. Over the last year I've taken my 03 BMW 325 there twice, and currently have a mini cooper in there for a brake job. They are consistently lower in cost than both the dealerships & even german car specialists I've contacted for quotes. And if you have a quote from someone else, they've even offered to match or beat it. So for price competitiveness, I'll say they are tops for sure. E.g, they will do a 4 wheel alignment on a $40K alignment machine for $89. BMW dealers & Mr Tire will charge $189+. Around this area you tend to need alignments ever year or two at least. I've had no issues w/ quality of work done either. In fact, on two occasions w/ the BMW they've gone out of their way to try to resolve a persistent problem. Once a problem w/ a loose / noisy brake pad, another w/ an alignment issue. My only slight issue is that on the two occasions I've been the work has taken a lot longer than expected or suggested. But I've had that happen consistently at other shops as well. The only reason, other than that there is always room for improvement, that I don't give the shop five stars. I think the moral of the story is DON'T wait at a shop for work to get done if you don't have to. It won't get done any faster & you will get frustrated. I know this from experience. Better to have them drop you off somewhere or take a loaner car. At GAG they typically give you a free one for 24hrs if you're having a reasonable amount of work done. They work w/ enterprise which actually comes & picks you up & afterward you leave the rental at their shop. Both times I've been able to get something fun to rent, e.g. a Dodge Charger & Fiat 500. Had a very good experience. The AC and blower stop working, ended up the car went into transport mode. Just a reset of the computer. They could have claimed it was the resister on the blower which would had cost hundreds, they didn't. Will use them again. read more

Very disappointing experience. I took my car to German Auto Group today for a oil change and brake flush. I was given a call this afternoon that my car was ready to be picked up. I paid the bill. When driving home I noticed my service dates in my bmw dash weren't changed so I took my car back. To find out, only the brake fluid flush was performed and the oil change wasn't. Also, I notice on my bill it states "Top all the fluid" which isn't true because my windshield wiper fluid control message was on before I got there and I had to ask them upon leaving to top it off. I asked the service person would it be possible to take off some of the labor charge of $133 for the inconvenience. I was told IF and only IF I get my brakes replaced in the future at German Auto Group his manager would take 10% off of the bill. If I wasn't proactive in checking my car after service I would have paid over 100 dollars for a oil change that was never performed. I've been there a couple time before and expected more. Just a disappointing experience today. read more

WOW! Had an horrible, and potentially life threatening repair job done. Valve Cover was installed incorrectly and leak oil - first mess up 2nd mess up - Radiator replaced, before I got 5 miles away it was leaking, called and told it was overflow?? When I arrived home, the ant-freeze beat me to my garage door. They had to send tow truck the next morning to pick up. They apparently did not install something in radiator correclty. Here is the scary one!!!!!! Had fuel pump installed in August, two days later check gas cap light came on, then the check engine light. Called and took it back, and was told I needed a gas cap, they reset lights and said if it happen again, call back. It happened again, this time I was told I needed a leakage detection pump and a gas cap, another $300.00, but was told it would not break down. At this point I had already spent $5165.00 on various work at this shop. So I thought I would gather my money and wait a minute. I had never filled tank after the fuel pump repair, I was broke. LOL So $30.00 here and $40.00 there. On Sunday, December 2nd I filled the gas tank on Telegraph Road near beltway and leaked gas all the way to Kingstowne! Without my knowledge!!! When I came out store in Kingstowne there was a BIG puddle of gasoline beneath my car!! The Fairfax County Fire Department had to come before I could have it towed. I smoke, so imagine throwing a cigarette out the car, or someone else doing so, or a spark! Poof there go I! I was able to get it to Benz Elite and they diagnose it correctly! The seal on the fuel pump was cracked, work German Auto Group did in August. Benz Elite also had to align and properly connect the expansion tank connection for my anti-freeze reservoir. It had started leaking anti-freeze a couple days before, after German Auto Group has replaced all components of the cooling system. Benz Elite did not charge me a dime for doing this. Of course I allowed them to change my oil and they will get my business. Took the car back to German Auto Group to re-do their warranty work, scared to death, because the trust in their work is gone. The mechanic Tim bad mouthed Benz Elite owner. How can you bad mouth that man when you said it was the gas cap initially, then your owner Sammy said it was the leak detection pump? It was neither and Benz Elite owner got it right. They had to flush my radiator again free! and I still wonder if they did it. Hopefully the fuel pump seal was done right this time, no gas cap and check engine lights yet, but it's only been a couple days! And when I got there to pick it up, guess what - they had not reset the check engine light! Wow! Customer Service, apology from the owner? Not going to happen as the owner Sammy has yet to call me AFTER I let him a message on Tueday to do so, and it's Friday! You can do as you please, but I will never go there again. Imagine I could have been poof!!!! Dead and gone because you botched a job and and still did not go back and check your work to make sure you re-diagnosed it correctly. I'm talking about not a slow leak, but a constant pouring of GAS until it apparently got to the point past the cracked seal they installed! Did you not see that cracked seal when I took it back twice! Not once but twice after the warning lights came on! I knew it, I just knew it, something was not right. You did fuel pump work, now a light I have not seen in 8 years appears, check gas cap! Yes my baby BMW 325I is 8 years old, but Beemers run forever, if you have the right mechanic doing the work. I'm just saying.........I will never take my car there again, especially after speding almost 6 Grand and I end up in a potentially life threatening situation! And they are over priced big time!!! read more

Their service was good, Sammy is awesome. they told me it would take 30-45 mins, 2hrs later I'm still there. they write me up for everything they found wrong with my car which came up tone 4k-5k worth of work according to them. Im glad they did a look over on my vehicle and gave me what they thought i could work on and what not to worry about. Thing that bothered me was the gentleman told me my clutch seemed weak and I needed to replace it. &750 for a clutch plus labor which come to $1400 in labor plus the clutch. I went to New German Auto an European car specialist (particularly Audi/VW) and they explained to me not only would I need the clutch put with the car I have I need to replace the Flywheel as well and they told me two different websites to go to to purchase the parts and they'd install it for $1100. Im glad I talked to them first getting all the correct parts I need even though it cost me more, i won't have to open the transmission up twice which in the long run saves me plus their labor is cheaper. German Auto Group is good, Id go to them for basics like Oil service and brakes and such but any serious work Im going to New German Auto , thats just my personal opinion. read more

He will let you know if it makes sense to fix something right then and there based on your financial situation and they always look for the lowest or comparable prices on parts. I really trust these guys and they are courteous as well. Drop your car off at night and leave the key? No problem. I've had my car towed directly to GAG and they fixed it. This was my first visit to this shop and I am IMPRESSED!!! They were able to diagnose and pinpoint the issue within an hour after the dealer and two other independent shops failed. They demonstrated honesty, integrity, experience and knowledge about German cars. My If you own a BMW, German Auto is where you want it fixed. Save yourself a huge amount of cash and frustration with the dealerships. My out-of-warranty 745Li with low miles was experiencing hard transmission shifts, error messages that never made sense, and required frequent starts before it is drivable. To save on costs, I started reading forums about the problem to find out what other people have been doing to solve the problem. I decided to start at the BMW dealership who I believed could do better diagnosis assuming BMW NA notifies them of common issues via bulletins. The dealer charged 4 hours for diagnosis and gave me a long list of issues that would have cost a fortune. The components included a new battery, alternator, electrical components, most fluids, seals, and some transmission components including a part that cost over $1400. If all the fixes did not fix the problem, the dealer would then recommend a new transmission. I walked out with the list, and started looking for independent shops that would do parts of the work, and hopefully one of them would find out what the problem was during the course. The first independent shop did not believe that the car had a problem. They did the regular maintenance but the transmission issues persisted. The second independent reputable shop offered to perform full diagnostics (which was already done by the dealer). I instructed them to change electrical components without diagnostics as I did not want to re-do the diagnostics. After the work was completed, the problem persisted. Despite the distance, I decided to have German Auto flush my transmission fluid as a last stop before I decide to sell the car. I was helped immediately. I explained what the problem was and what I want done. Instead of taking my money, the service rep advised that such a job would only worsen the problem. He offered to have his team look at it before he does any work. Within an hour, my car was taken in, and looked at. I was presented with a written estimate. Sam explained the need for each part including a part that was not on the dealer list but was pointed out as a problem on one of the many forums. The price for labor and parts was very reasonable. I gave them the go ahead to do the work. The major job was completed within three hours. I felt the difference within the first minute of driving the car. She felt as good as I first purchased it and still does after a number of restarts and hours of driving in different conditions through the DC area. Hours later, the shop followed up with a courteous call to check on how the car was doing. I had nothing to say but thank them for a job well done. I love driving my car again!!! read more

Had an oil leak and when I put the car in drive, engine would rev up and wouldn't move like the clutch was engaged. Also, told him to check the breaks. I Talked to Eric, Service Manager. He stated they would diagnose my BMW X5 right now and provide a quote on repairs. There was a customer in front of me but they were able to diagnose and provide a quote in less than an hour. (I stopped in after 3 pm) They couldn't find anything wrong with transmission but would look closer while they were making repairs for oil leak. I told Eric I could drop X5 off the next morning. He offered me a Mercedes SUV as a loaner car at NO CHARGE and I could leave X5 !! They had X5 ready the next day by lunch! Eric stated, they diagnosed transmission but couldn't find any issues or problems and couldn't re-create problem I was having with trans nor were there any problems or issues with breaks. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH ERIC AND GERMAN AUTO GROUP!!! 1. The customer service and free loaner at NO CHARGE! 2. The speed of service!! 3. They repaired oil leak and power steering leak. 4. The best service I've received at any auto repair shop. From the moment I called, I felt like my business was a priority. Tim had a quote to me for a brake job on my Audi A6 over the phone in less than an hour from my original call, and the cost was less than half what the Audi dealer had quoted. When I brought in the car to have the rotors measured to make sure we were getting the right parts, Tim's quote was dead on except there was some extra labor needed due to the electronic emergency brake. Tim waived that labor. I brought in the car the next day, and all the work was done in just a few hours. Tim even offered to get me a loaner car through Enterprise. Sammy, First off I would not jeopardize my integrity for something so minor. I am a retired military officer with 21 years of honorable service in the Pentagon, Capital Hill and as a Government Contracting Business Owner. Presently, I serve a Professor of Communication. I guarantee that you would not find a person that would say compellingly I am dishonest or lacking in integrity. Sammy, I don't know you except what I have experienced through your shop. I came to your shop because a friend of mine recommended your shop for pricing. I did not have the other shop that specializes in high-performance Porsche cars to fix it this time because of a pricing concern. Tischer Porsche and they have done all my repairs. And all my maintenance is up to date. Just so you'll know, Sammy, my car has 114, 600 miles, not over 120,000. You said the unit was stolen and from China. It was off EBay and came from a dealership in Japan. It came off a 2007 turbo as the seller confirmed. And I did give you 3 Vin numbers the seller sent. I gave you a print out with the seller and my communication. Even his denial that a code would say stolen. Sammy, I have to ask you if you were so sure it was stolen why did you tell me, after I brought my car back and told you your mechanics left the charger in my car, that all you needed was the vin and IPAS codes. You probably weren't aware that John thought it was IPAD codes and only asked for Vins. That is when I emailed the seller and he sent me what you said you needed. When I returned, John then said I needed an IPAS code for my PCM and the replacement PCM. That is when I phone the dealer and he asked me to bring the car. Attempts to characterize my car as in poor condition do not change what I have written and what I have shared personally with you. If I lacked the kind of credibility you suggest, I would not have returned a $650 car charger your staff left in my trunk that you were not even aware of. Everything I told you was true. Everything I wrote was true as I knew it to be. Perhaps you may need to check with your representatives to make sure you got the right story. And as for the repair you made to the scratch, I would have preferred the scratch rather than the repair. It is obvious to me that it had been repaired. They covered a 6 X 8 inch area for a 1/4-inch deep scratch. I was not at all satisfied with the repair. It was good to you, but it's not your vehicle. The fact that you paid for damage you caused does not merit applause. Now let's speak to your rebuttal. Did you not sell me two brand new Dunlop rear tires? Did you not give me a car that upon paying for it your representative informed that two error codes still appeared on the dash and that I should return it to be fixed? That very next Monday I called to tell you that the tires you sold me had a leak and that the top did not operate. What else would I surmise if it worked prior to coming to you and did not work when I got it back? Needless to say you said you fixed it, but when I picked it up it was not repaired. Regarding the tire, I wanted a replacement or a repair. I told John it had a leak, and I told him I put fix a flat in it in order to drive it to the shop. I told him that on the August 1; I did not pick it up until the 3rd. Why was the problem not addressed? Do you deny that I told John the problem and he told me it was safe to drive? My lady and me were in the car when the tire deflated and the rims were damaged. We had just returned fro a jazz show in Annapolis. How coincidental is that. When you were selling me the tires you warned me I should not drive on the old tires and I purchased new tires. Why was I not given the same warning when I told you what was going on with the tire you sold not three days earlier. It was less than 6 hours after I brought from your shop. Sammy, I gave you an opportunity to fix the car. It is now in an authorized Porsche dealership being repaired. The reason why I posted these comments is because you have denied responsibility and your representative advised me so improperly that it almost cost two lives: My significant other and me. If you want to rectify the problem, then you know my number. Otherwise, have a good day. read more

I've been taking several of my vehicles here for many years and I've always received great service from the German Auto Group Team (Tim, Eric and Sam are who I normally deal with) and they always work with me to get a reasonable price. I recently took my 2003 ML 500 Mercedes to them for a lengthy list of repairs and they were literally 55% cheaper than Mercedes Benz of Arlington for the exact same repairs. He has built himself personally and professionally into an American success story. He is incredibly proud of studying for and becoming an American citizen. He is honest and fair beyond any doubt. He and Tim, his manager, always give you the true story along with options for repair. Sami is not only a great owner, mechanic, but has become a good and trustworthy friend. And Tim is cut from the same cloth. My only criticism is that they won't return to my local Shell station.......but it's worth the drive over to German Auto to get fair, honest, and dependable repairs. Took my car here because the A/C wasnt working. We found out that there was a leak somewhere in the car. After an hour of German Auto Group placing a flashlight into the hood of the car, they determined that they didnt know exactly where the leak was coming from, but figured it was either coming from the condenser or the a/c lines. So instead of removing the bumper to figure out exactly where the leak was coming from, they decided to give me the run around for an hour. After that hour, they still could not conclusively tell me where the leak was coming from. How do you charge a customer for work, but still cant tell them what the issue is after an hour, then make up an issue so they can come back and waste more money? With nothing to show for, they told me that it was a problem with the condensor or a/c line. So after paying $ 100 for their "labor", they told me that it would cost $1400 to fix the condenser and./or a/c lines on my Audi, even know they didnt know what the exact problem was or where the exact leak was coming from. If they had taken the time to do a thorough inspection of the problem area, rather than flash a flashlight the in the hood for an hour, they would have seen what the problem was. I took it to Miles Collision and they told me that the problem was stemming from the O Ring and Sensor---not the condenser or a/c lines.. The cost----640. Less than half the price of what German Auto Group quoted me for a bogus issue that didnt even exist. Stay away from them. Its all a sham. read more
