Substandard work. I had my windshield wiper motor replaced here, it worked for 25 minutes then it stopped, I took it back and they FORGOT THE BOLTS. 4 months later, the motor failed again, this time it simply went bad. Although they advertised using new parts with a warranty at the time of installation, they claimed that they used a refurbished part without a warranty. Additionally they tried to tell me I needed a $250 smoke test because of an indicator they were getting. I know a bit about cars, this was total BS. My gas cap was loose. UPDATE: 3 hours after I published the negative review I was threatened by Samuel T. the alleged owner of German Auto Group, we had the following exchange: "SAM: could you please send us the date that we serviced your car and your information so we can investigate your claim. Our smoke test is $ 89.00 not $ 250. We want to make sure that you brought your car to German Auto Group and if not we will be seeking legal venue if you gave a fake review. management" Samuel T, "The date of my windshield wiper motors failure was Feb 4, 2010, the shitty work was done sometime before that. As for seeking legal venue, there are many throughout the USA, I recommend using Google Maps. I also can tell you that I will not be at any legal venue. Perhaps you meant legal recourse. Either way, I was told over the phone that the smoke test would cost $225, with fees and taxes, it came out to somewhere close to $250. Whether your employee made a mistake, was trying to overcharge me, or you are simply lying to me will forever be a mystery. And no, you will not be getting my information. I don't write reviews often but Tim and German Auto Repair treated me with the dignity and respect I look for in an establishment I am handing over my precious car that I love. I saved for my car since age 18 and drove a 98 Honda Civic my entire life before I bought the two door of my dreams. Tim took care of everything at half the price other chop shops were trying to get me for. One competitor even tried to charge me four times what Tim did. When I told him I had a quote from German Auto Group for a fourth of that, for the same work and if he had an explanation, he just hung up the phone on me and wouldn't return my calls. I am a pretty honest and flexible individual, unfortunately I was unhappy with my service here. My husband was deployed in Afghanistan due to the military. I really needed service on my 2002 1.8T FWD somewhere fast and efficient. Not knowing a lot about cars (My husband usually took care of everything), I needed someone that I could trust. I felt now that German Auto Group took advantage of that and tried to recommend/charged me services that I didn't need. I strictly also stated that before anything was done to run it by me first. They were great and called me but already performed some services before I could approve ( they were small like changing the oil/filter or removing/replacing a gasket) but they were not what I asked to be done and they were trial and error tactics. They also charge a $30 parts and service fee and when I was about to pay he removed the oil filter charge because the manger stated they only changed the oil (Who does that). 1 week later my husband came back and stated they never changed the oil. I was pretty surprised and upset.They also tried to recommend me something further but I declined. Their prices are cheaper however make sure they are doing what your vehicle needs and that they aren't ripping you off for any other costs that are not needed. I wouldn't' recommend them, I feel you should trust your mechanic and wouldn't go back there again. read more

My car has been experiencing a lot of unknown issues, but I brought it into the Springfield shop, and Johnny helped me figure out everything. Johnny was very respectful, helpful, and honest. He told me everything that needs to be done to the car, explained the prices and maintenance, and gave me advice for how I should go about fixing it. I chose not to get the maintenance done at German Auto Group because I am still learning about my car and want to work on what I can myself, but Johnny still offered me to give him a call if I had any questions later on, which I thought was amazing. He has offered to install the seals that were missed free of charge as well as provide a rental so that I would not have to wait for the work to be completed. Military family! I was referred to this mechanic because I was sold a lemon from Guaranteed Automaxxx. German Auto Group owner and Guaranteed Automaxxx owner are really good friends. This what I was told when I was referred to this mechanic (German) by the dealer. They looked at my car and said nothing was wrong with it. I went to this mechanic about 3 times in a month. They insisted nothing was wrong. Went to a certified dealer finds out I need a new engine. I guess he was covering for his friend. Both business should be shut down. I took my 06 range rover to Sammy (the owner I think) and he did an awesome job. Sammy went beyond the call of duty to make sure that I was happy with the outcome. Prices were great also, 50% of the dealership cost in some cases. The car was in pretty bad shape with multiple leaks and mechanical issues. The guys took care of the whole thing inside of two days. I've never had an experience like this ever. I took my Mercedes ML350 in for a routine oil change. It was raining very hard that day, but they told me they could get the work done. About 2 hours after I dropped the car off, I got a call that I additionally I needed to have all of the fluids changed because of the mileage and year of the vehicle, plus there were some headlights that needed replacing, for a total of a little over $1400. While I hadn't anticipated spending that much (just wanted the oil changed), I agreed to have them do the additional work. Within an hour I get another call telling me that there had been a little accident with my car, and they were calling their insurance company to come out and do an estimate. They said it was not that bad and they would take care of it. My husband stopped by to see the damage on the way home, but the car was up on the rack and he couldn't see the extent of the damage. However, he was told that their automatic garage door had buckled and hit my car, damaging the driver side door and front bumper. This was on a Monday. The insurance estimator didn't get to see the car until Thursday. The car was whisked away to their body shop (Kwaik Auto Body on Fullerton Road) without even giving us the option of where we wanted to have the repairs done. My car was moved to a body shop without our permission and we were never given the name of the insurance company name or a claim number or any other information. I would have preferred to take it to a MB dealer. I called Kwaik and asked them if I could come and get my car to take it where I wanted the repairs done. I was told that they had already replaced the windshield (it was not even mentioned before that the windshield was damaged) and they had primer on the car and it was being painted the next day (Wednesday of week 2 of them having my vehicle) and they were waiting for additional parts. I asked, what additional parts? He told me that my luggage rack had been damaged and they needed to replace it on one side. Meanwhile that same day my husband gets a call from German Auto Groups' insurance company to say that we were being mailed a check for $5k. How in the world did they do $5k worth of damage when all I took it in for was an oil change??? We were going out of town the following weekend, so we asked Kwaik if the vehicle would be ready on Saturday morning. Kwaik said they could possibly have it ready by Saturday, but called early Saturday morning to say it would be Monday before the car would be ready. Kwaik said they would pay for us a rental car for the weekend, so we picked up a rental from Economy Car Rental. My husband then goes back to German Auto Group to settle the bill for the original work. I don't feel we should have paid them anything for all the running around we have had to do plus being without the vehicle for 2 weeks, and asked the for consideration. They told him they replaced a headlight that had condensation in it and was "throwing it in for free", which was not true because Kwaik told me about the headlight when I talked to them previously and said he placed it in the estimate. The two of them worked this thing together. We ended up paying them $1200 of the $1400 bill. Finally Kwaik calls my husband today (2 weeks after the car was initially taken to German Auto) to say the car was ready to be picked up. I go to Kwaik to pickup the car and was told they couldn't release the car until the insurance company's check was submitted to them. I called the insurance company (Utica National Insurance) and the estimator told me normally the customer chooses where they want their vehicle fixed, which is what we wanted to do in the first place. Even the insurance company wondered why we didn't choose our own body shop. I believe that's why the check was mailed to us and not the body shop (Kwaik) -- he felt something was not right. German Auto Group did not handle this correctly, their customer was not their first priority, they were just trying to cover their butts. They have lost me as a customer. Next time I have routine work I'll take it to Mercedes Benz, just to not have the hassle it will be worth any additional money I'll have to pay. If something like this happens to you, don't let them take advantage of you because they will if they can. read more

I took a 2005 e55 AMG in to German Auto Group for a pre-purchase inspection and was told that only the warped brake rotors need to be replaced and that the valve cover gaskets are leaking. I purchased the car based on this inspection from a private party and took it to my local Mercedes mechanic who found that the car needs $5000 in wear and tear items including spark plugs, belts, pulleys, valve cover gaskets, wheel bearing repack, differential fluid change, transmission fluid change, front lower ball joints, and much more. The rotors were NOT warped and only needed the front pads to be replaced. The under body panels were also hanging loose which should've been noted if the car was actually inspected on a lift. It appears that this shop doesn't know Mercedes vehicles and I wouldn't trust or recommend bringing a vehicle here. read more

Whether it's selling parts for less than the list price or just giving me a ride across town while they work on my car, I've never had an issue. I brought my Jetta in for an oil change based on their introductory offering marketing flyer. Im always looking for mechanics I can trust because my car is old and I intend to keep it running for several years. This should have been a simple oil change and inspection to gauge their trustworthiness and they failed with spectacular colors! Following the oil change the car began leaking profusely, and when I brought it back to them to see what the issue was I was told, "Someone has stripped your drain plug, and you need a new oil pan." The man who told me this then with a sympathetic look on his face went to type up an estimate for service like this. When he came back he claimed he gave me a discount on parts($160)! With the service costs the total of the estimate was $490!! I can procure an oil pan and plug for less than $30, so that is crap. Secondly, someone from this business created this problem! That should be something the business would fix without charging me if they stood by their service, and they actually wanted my business. It seems they were more intent on scamming me out of my money! The car is old and it has enough problems already without you all created unnecessary ones!! This place will not be getting my money now or ever. I'm sure many people have been treated fine by them, but from what I experienced this place is scam city! read more

I took my 2010 BMW M3 Sedan into this shop to get an oil change. I brought my own oil and filter (as it takes special racing oil) and got to the shop when it opened in the morning. Tim was the "Service Advisor" in charge of getting this service done. They were kind of enough to shuttle me to work (at an army base nearby) and bring me back to their shop. However, this oil change took almost 8 hours to complete!! And, the reason for this was blamed on getting two drain plugs from BMW Fairfax (since the ones in the car were threaded on too tightly and broke). I believe that this is an unreasonable amount of time to obtain two drain plugs and complete an oil change and that's why I will NOT visit this establishment again (and, also why I'm giving them the rating they deserve here). read more

Just got back from the Pickett Street location in Alexandria: Plenty of parking at that site, along with a large and inviting waiting room with smaller rooms to work via laptop if needed, and clean restroom. Since I was waiting, they took my M-B car immediately to perform a "B Service" as I requested. Only recommendations afterward were to replace lower control arms in front (expected, since the car has @65k miles and squeaks loudly over bumps) and a transmission flush). Absolutely no surprises or inflated prices there. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised at the cost for the "B Service"! This is the second time I've brought my car to this location, though I've brought my wife's Porsche to the Springfield location several times over the years with great results. BEWARE!!!! I would not recommend this place..they have my car for over 3 wks, they told me that total charges is only below $1,400, parts are less that $800 and the rest goes to labor, then they called me after 2 wks, and they said the car is ready, however, I have to do it manually- I have convertible Audi, I agreed with them to do the job, because they are much cheaper than Audi dealership, then when I went to pick-up my car, I cannot use the convertible automatically-but I can use it manually-so they give me another quote to replace the motor that is additional $1,400, the parts is only $450.00 and the additional labor is $950,00...so total cost of repair $2,800. AUDI only charging $1,900. I wish I took my car to the Audi dealership :( So, yes, do not take your car to this place - Did I get ripped off.....Absolutely !!!!!! read more

I went for my 50k mile service and was told that I'd need a $600+ leaking gasket fixed in my engine. I'm so glad I checked with my personal and experienced auto mechanic later who told me that not only was it completely unnecessary, there was no leaking gasket! Plus that shouldn't happen at such low mileage. I came to German Auto originally on a recommendation but now I don't think I'll go again nor can recommend based on such an exorbitant and unnecessary repair. read more

So for starters, I've been going to this place since I've been stationed in the area for the past 2+ years. They've done some minor car work like fixing my door or performing a routine check-up. However for the past month or so I had an issue with a strange noise coming from car. The first time I took it to them, they claimed to have no idea what it was so they fixed the engine mount in my car and literally less than 100mi later, all of the lights on my dashboard are popping up. My dash was literally telling me to stop driving, my transmission was failing, radiator was leaking, car was overheating and I had to stop driving immediately. I was stranded and had to get my car towed back to them 2 days later. I emailed them what footage and pictures of my car's meltdown just days after they claimed to fix the problem as all of these issues NEVER happened the 3 years I've had the car and I just recently had it routinely serviced 2 months before taking it to them. So now it's in the shop, they say my axel is leaking oil or grease, so I get that changed. Then they claim some module or whatever is corroded and that's why all my systems in my car were failing (sure). So after $1.1k spent, after 3 interventions, the initial noise I asked to get fixed is WORSE and now, 1 week after leaving their shop a SECOND time, my check engine light is back on in my car. If you want to waste your money and be taken advantage of with inflated prices and "discounts" come here, because they'll give you the ringer until your broke even if you're military. read more
