Neat atmosphere. Not individual dinners. Everything is small plate and meant to share. They even charge you for bread and butter to share. Okay cocktails and okay menu. Not a good place for business meetings. They start very loud live music at 8:00 pm. Overall a neat "it" place to be socially. Nothing fantastic and the service is marginal. read more

Lovely setting... cordial staff... extremely slow and inattentive service (only 5 tables with customers). Staff seemed more interested in talking to each other than assisting patrons. Not a great experience for a first time hotel and restaurant guest. Hope everyone else's experience lives up to the high star rating -- ours didn't. We left and went to Moonshine, where the service was exceptional and food was equally as pleasing. read more

Awful. We finished both the NYT Saturday and Sunday crossword puzzles while waiting for our food. When the food finally arrived, it was overcooked and under seasoned. read more

Had dinner her. We were in and out out in35 minutes. Plates are meant to share and we ordered three. Two came at the same time and third just 5 mutes later. There wasn't room in the table. It's not worth the price or service read more

1. The food was amazing - unreal. The raclette shouldn't be overlooked. 2. Ant is an amazing waiter and reminds me of an age of hospitality that is lacking elsewhere - six stars just for this guy. read more

Overpriced for Austin brunch. Service was subpar, took 29 minutes for a Diet Coke. Had to ask for side of bacon three times and it came out burnt and cold. Nice atmosphere. read more

Didn't actually make it inside to see the restaurant. Valet treated me so poorly that I will never be coming back. They tried to charge me $20 up front and $20 per hour after that, which is unheard of. I've never had to pay before even having my car valeted, and I've definitely never been charged an hourly rate for valet. Not to mention that the employee who talked to me was dismissive and rude throughout the entire exchange. I'll probably come back to check out the restaurant sometime when I park my car elsewhere, but not anytime soon. I can only hope that hotel guests are not treated so poorly when checking in. read more

Extremely expensive for what it is. Went there for lunch and had 2 eggs, 2 strips of Bacon, a slice of bread and a coffee for $20. And trust me, I can make better eggs for 10% of the price... read more

Geraldine's might have ok food, but we would never know that. We waited for a table for 30 minutes, only to receive a text message from the host stand saying that they were full and could not seat us. Really? If you reject paying customers, you don't deserve our business. You can also warn us ahead of time that we won't be getting a table so we can take our business elsewhere and not waste our lives sitting around waiting. Crap service! Get it together. read more

The bartenders were all great. Nick was super helpful & friendly. He gave us a list of places that the staff there compiled of places to try in Austin. The drinks were all fantastic. The short rib quesadillas were so good! The bartender did warn us that it is the smallest portion of everything on the menu, but it was delicious! read more

This is a first sports fans! I am a foodie and have eaten at nice restaurants around the world and have NEVER had this happen to me... So my rating if one star is purely because of the horrible Managment and the way they treat their customers. Food had amazing favors so my hat is off to the kitchen. Portions are very small so be prepared to eat something after you drop 500+ for dinner. Service was good until after we paid our bill which we were kinda rushed and we decided we wanted another drink. Now this is where it gets interesting. They refused to serve us another beverage and told us we had to leave. YES had to leave. As we are people with class we got up and I voiced my displeasure which one of the "managers" who was completely shocked. He asked who said this and we replied Allisa or some name like that and he said "oh she is my manager"... He sat us at another table and they gave us a round of drinks for free and apologized like they should. Too little too late. Don't go here. They will not last in Austin Texas as we'd not put up with the elitist attitude. The management needs to learn proper ways to handle things and treat your customers right. Plus what is the deal with the Cop who keeps riding up and down the elevator? Come on folks get it right. Nice place with a decent vibe but don't expect a wonderful experience. Oh and btw the table next to us after we were re-seated had the exact same experience as us. They kicked them downstairs first and then brought them back up as they were ordering dessert. CRAZY! read more

Very disappointing brunch. Service was terrible. Our server was condescending and acted like we were crazy for ordering alcohol on a Saturday morning. They made us feel like we were inconveniencing them with our orders. Unbelievable And food was just so-so read more

looking at some of the reviews in here i am convinced that yelp was created so that mean people could write reviews granted i have written some negative reviews as well but look at the ratios people there are those that just enjoy writing mean things but onwards our friends were staying at the van zandt so we decided to meet at geraldines for a drink on christmas night the place looks pretty good for a restaurant inside of a hotel the bartender was super friendly and kept me hydrated with plenty of water which i needed since i was drinking like it was my job our initial drinks were straight out of the cocktail menu but after that the bartender created a drink based on what we said we would like and it was real good we also had ceviche and hush puppies and maybe something else and it was all delicious the other plus was that there were actually a lot of locals and they were super friendly read drunk and fun to talk to and full of good advice as to where to go in town all in all a great time was had by everyone would definitely return next time i am in austin read more

Good cocktails and live music. It's a very trendy place, a lot of people there to just be seen. We were a group of 10 seated outside for a birthday reservation. It should have been a sign when we got outside and we had to move the tables and chairs together ourselves. The waitress went around the table and just skipped over me when ordering. My boyfriend got up to chase her down to tell her what I wanted. Drinks were slow because there was a large party at the bar which is understandable. I ordered a bread plate that was nice, but my shrimp dinner came out literally a minute later. Then about 5 minutes later the other two couples who ordered apps came out plus two entrees. They forgot my boyfriends order. Then 15 minutes later 3 more entrees came out and then 10 minutes my boyfriends steak came out with barely an apology. His sirloin had more fat than steak, and my four gulf shrimp were barely seasoned and in no way warranted being called a 26 dollar entree. The bill took forever. It was just a bummer especially for a special event. read more

The food was great, very interesting small plates to share. Our service was terrible, the worst dining experience I have ever had. Our waitress (Sarah) told us that we needed to hurry up because she had another table coming at 9pm, in 45 minutes. We had been there for less than an hour when that happened. We came to celebrate our anniversary, and I was told we would have the table 2 hours when I made the reservation. That was not told to our waitress who was rushing us through our dinner so she could get to the next table. She also had very little knowledge of the wine menu and filled the huge wine glass close to the top. Very disappointed in the service! The food & ambiance were excelent, too bad the service is lacking. read more

I really enjoyed Geraldine's. I figured with it being a hotel restaurant that it would be subpar like most, but I was pleasantly surprised. Geraldine's is located on the second floor of the new Van Zandt Hotel on Rainey Street. Upon entering the restaurant, I felt like I was on vacation in another city. I can't explain it, but the level of decor and atmosphere far exceeds most of the restaurants here in Austin. Everything is served more Tapas style, but there is a fairly wide selection of food tastings and I felt like the portion sizes were adequate. Everybody raves about the yellowtail taco and thank goodness I didn't skip it. I was like, "who needs another taco in this town"? Well ..... This is no ordinary taco. I'd describe it more as fresh sushi on a delicate corn crisp. We also had fresh fish, popovers, dessert and more. Yum! Anyhow, everything we tried was wonderful. We didn't have the best service, but luckily everything else was great ... So hopefully that will not happen again. Also, the Martinis are seriously tiny, so don't expect much there. Other than that, perfecto and I can't wait to go back! Bravo! read more

The atmosphere is great, the live band was really good and the food presentation was awesome (not crazy about the super small portions). Our waiter, Art, was not so great. In short, the waiter was patronizing, rude and was very aggressive in pushing foods on us we did not want. One of the bartenders (big long beard) was rude as well, when I asked 'if I order a drink could we transfer it to the table' he replied with 'I could but I would rather not, I'd rather you close it out here with me.' I said never mind then, thank you. It was uncomfortable and put a slight damper on our family dinner. read more

Disappointing. Made Sunday brunch reservations as part of a staycation at the Van Zandt- entered a near empty restaurant and was lead to a tiny table in the middle of the dining room, despite there being at least a half dozen more private tables available. Asked the hostess if we could take a table by the window instead and she sneered that they were "reserved" - I reminded her that we HAD reservations, she made us stand in the center of the dining room while she went back to her stand "to check" if she could seat us as requested ... finally seated, and the food really wasn't interesting enough or well executed enough to salvage the experience. Better brunch is just too easy to find elsewhere to consider returning. read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon for brunch. Friendly service, okay food. Great atmosphere, with a live jazz band. I got the beef quesadilla and it was good but should have been considered an appetizer. Maybe cause I was from out of town I wasn't aware of the portion size. Good place to come for drinks and probably eat somewhere else. read more

Don't bother. $17.95 to valet for a mediocre dinner on rainy street. That's crazy for Austin! We were there for 2 hours and that's just ridiculous. The manager was called and was not even remotely apologetic but he said it was "standard". Not sure what standard he was talking about when we spent over $150 on dinner that's hardly standard. Not going back. read more

My husband and I have eaten here twice. I'm not a big fan of small plates, but we have really enjoyed the food. Nice restaurant and very pretty patio area. read more

First, be aware that this is a "small plates" restaurant. The food is pretentious and flavorless. The staff is mediocre. The decor was just okay. Fortunately, the meal we had there was not super pricey. There was a duo performing there that was supposed to be "folk" music. Not even close. The performers were terrible (when we could actually hear them) and when the lead wasn't talking (which was most of the time and better than their music). We would have gone someplace else to listen to music after dinner since these performers were so awful, but we were stuck there for almost three hours for dinner because the service was so slow. There are sooooo many great places in Austin, go to one of them, but not here. read more

Service was absolutely terrible. The bartender didn't like us. He didn't bat eyelash at us. My husband sat with an empty drink till we left.

Nice place with a very nice atmosphere at night. Also, they have a band mostly every night or weekends. However, food and drinks are too expensive (for being at Rainey Street). Happy hour is not the best on earth (super expensive small tiny plates and drinks are super small). read more

The atmosphere here is great. We ordered about 6 small plates between the 2 of us and loved everything. Especially the salt roasted beets.

Went there on 7/8/16. Terrible experience all around. Drinks were terribly overpriced and the crowd was old and snooty. And then there was this. After waiting for the outside bartender to stop flirting with two young girls at the bar, he finally took our drink order. The two girls told me that they snuck in for the band and asked me to buy them a drink. Not first time a girl has asked someone to buy then a drink but pretty entitled and obnoxious. I ignored the girls and as the stereotypical bearded douche of a hipster bartender continued to serve these two underage I made a comment to him about them not acting appropriately and that they should be cut off. In the meantime my friend made off with one of the obnoxious girls' numbers and the bartender got irate and demanded we apologize to the girls "or leave HIS bar". So we left. Wasnt aware a 20 something creepy spencer prattish blonde bearded hipster owned the van zandt. Wont be back. This Is a place for 50k per year millionaires. Ill stick to craft pride and bangers next time. read more

Very disappointing experience. I'm from out of state so before I came to Texas, I researched places to eat and Geraldine's stood out mainly because of their cocktail menu. I go to Geraldine's for brunch and I'm given the brunch menu which has some cocktails on it but not the ones I saw online. I ask my server for the menu that has those cocktails on it and she explains that those cocktails are on the lunch/dinner menu and that he bar might now be able to make some of them because they don't have the ingredients prepped which is totally understandable. I pick a cocktail out that has a bunch of spirits and an egg white in it. My server checks with the bar to see if they can make it and then she comes back to me and says the bar can't make it because they don't have any eggs prepped. No eggs PREPPED? All you have to do is go to the kitchen (which is no more than 100 ft away), crack it open and separate it. No much prep work involved there. The food here was great but the serving sizes are a bit ridiculous. $13 for half of a 6" quesadilla? read more

Called for a last minute Sunday brunch reservation for two - the hostess was friendly and accommodating. We walked in 20 minutes later and were immediately seated. The live jazz band was the perfect ambience for a relaxed meal. Fresh orange juice was excellent, and my fiancé really liked his iced tea. With the helpful recommendation of our server Rachel, we ordered three items to share: the short rib quesadilla, the tot hash with pulled pork, and the brioche French toast. All three were incredibly good. Rachel very kindly held back the third dish until we had finished the first two, which helped with table space and warmth. All in all, we had a large, excellent brunch for two for under $50. We are definitely impressed and will be back at our earliest opportunity. read more

I seriously loved this place until today... I come here a few times a month and wanted to bring a friend in town here. There were so many tables open and they would not seat us (willing to wait!). They would not take our number down either to call us if there was an opening. The hostess was rude and pretentious. I love the food and drinks here that is why I bring people here but I was not impressed with this visit. Still had a drink tried to be happy about it but very upset that they treated us this way unfortunately... read more

I am very impressed with Geraldine's - food, decor, menu offerings, and hospitality are all top notch. This does not feel like a hotel restaurant - it feels like an independent, high-quality operation. The food and service are excellent, serving elevated Southern classics in a room that seems to transform between night and day. The dining room is flanked by wall to ceiling windows that allow light to stream in during the day, giving the place an airy and relaxed feel. Once the sun goes down the room turns a bit sexier. The addition of live music helps that vibe, but was never intrusive nor offensive. The live music actually adds to the appeal. There are some Austin tenured chefs in the kitchen, and this is a good thing. Texas heritage pork, house-made pickles, hush puppies, barbecue short rib, gulf shrimp with XO sauce, and a bread basket with butter that will blow your mind. I recommend a visit for brunch and for dinner. read more

Great short rib and salad! Very great experience overall. I would not eat the sirloin again though. Everything else is 5 stars!

Exceptional service!! The sunset pool deck at Geraldine's would not be the same without LUCAS! A must visit when in austin.

Food good. I will say that. BUT at the cost of half of our part waiting 20 minutes for their food order. No attention for water refills or drinks. Do not come with a group. The "table" we reserved weeks in advanced was caught up (people before us) and we were forced to sit outside in the heat. That part was not terrible but our options were that or leave. Hire more staff. Our waiter was too busy for 10+ people. Bread was brought before the other half of our table go my their dinner!! read more

Breakfast menu offered a little something different, which was appreciated. I had the Texas omelette and it was fluffy and light, potatoes were crispy and well-seasoned. Husband had the Scottish duck egg and he absolutely loved it. I thought it was a bit heavy for breakfast. Portions were smaller than other places, but just enough and priced well. Great service. Beautiful atmosphere. Bloody Mary was just ok. read more

Poor, poor service at the hotel bar. My girlfriend and I came in Sunday night for an after dinner drink and dessert. We live in Austin and wanted to see what the hotel was all about. We sat at the bar, ordered a drink, and a dessert - the bartender looked a little less than thrilled to be taking our order. That was the extent of the interaction throughout the service - no check in, no "hey can I get you another drink", nothing - we're trying to spend money! The dessert must have taken 20 minutes to be delivered, and we thought the bartender had completely forgot our order. As the dessert was being delivered, it was mistakenly dropped off to another group that sat next to us - no asking them about the order, or acknowledging us, they just delivered it to the wrong group. Still, no bartender came to check on us, drinks, our order, etc. We literally sat there for 20 minutes after our drinks had run out. We finally got our pie, and it was comped by someone behind the bar, but all in all it was almost like they were cleaning up for the night and we inconvenienced them by ordering. Once we were ready to leave, we had to go to the other side of the bar and get the bartender's attention to tab us out. Pretty bummed and will not be coming back, nor recommending. read more
