If you have the opportunity to catch one of these evenings, it is absolutely worth the effort. I arrived early and stopped at Off the Record for a drink before heading upstairs. The bartender mentioned that this event also helps provide additional hours for staff during the slower month of August, which made me appreciate the concept even more. The Top of the Hay itself is stunning. The views and setting are exactly what you would expect from such an iconic DC property, and getting to experience a space that is typically reserved for private events made the evening feel particularly special. The drinks were also excellent. Sweet, but not overly sweet. But what really stood out was the staff. I do not say this lightly. The service was outstanding. I genuinely wish I had caught everyone's names because anyone working between roughly 4:30 and 7:30 that evening in the lobby, Off the Record, or Top of the Hay deserves recognition and a raise! Every person I interacted with was incredibly attentive without ever being overbearing. What impressed me most was that the staff remembered my schedule for the evening and made sure I left Off the Record at exactly the right time so I could be the first person to step into Top of the Hay when it opened. That level of attention to detail is rare. Beautiful space, great drinks, and truly exceptional hospitality. "Be Gin the Evening" is such a clever way to let locals and visitors experience a part of The Hay Adams they otherwise might never see. I would absolutely do it again.

Still wondering what is 5-star about this outdated, tiny-rooms, no view place. Our stay at The…read moreHay-Adams was deeply disappointing and fell far short of basic expectations, let alone what you would expect from a property claiming five-star luxury. For the rates they charge, the conditions and service are unacceptable. The building is old, heavily dated, and features cheap fixings. The bathroom is tiny, featuring a cramped round sink with virtually zero counter space to set down any personal items. Furthermore, for a five-star hotel, lacking a proper hot tub and standalone shower is unacceptable. The towels provided are cheap, rough, and feel entirely out of place at this price point. The bathroom ventilation is so old and loud, that I can't even believe it's there. No fridge in the room, only a mini bar that will charge you if you move around mini bar items to place your own drinks. The view of the White House was severely misadvertised. To actually see it, you are required to pay an extra $700 on top of an already steep $600-per-night room rate. The acoustic insulation is non-existent. If anyone is staying in the room above you, forget about sleeping--every single footstep and movement carries straight through. The front desk staff was entirely dismissive. After promising to switch our room to resolve our issues, they dragged us through three separate attempts, wasted hours of our time with non-responsive answers, and then finally demanded we pay even more money to fix their mistake. After we went through, not even a complimentary breakfast or really anything. Shocked that this place is more expensive than Four Seasons, St. Regents, and the kind. This is barely a three star hotel (except location of course). Stay away.

The room was spotless, the turndown service was a nice flex, and everything felt polished. The location is clutch--walkable to fun spots and everywhere we needed to be for work. The key-card elevators are sleek, high-tech, and super secure. The restaurant and bar had great energy, and the food hit, but $24 for a drink is unhinged. Overall, a stylish, safe, and seriously fun stay. More details from my review on Google: Rooms: The rooms were exceptionally clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The turndown service was a lovely touch, and everything in the room was perfect throughout my stay. Safety: The hotel elevators felt extremely secure and high-tech. Guests must use a key card to access certain levels and floors, which added an extra layer of safety and peace of mind. It's a great security feature and made me feel very comfortable during our stay. Walkability: The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of plenty of things to do, as well as the locations I needed to access for work. The location made my stay easy and convenient. Food & drinks: The hotel restaurant and bar had a nice atmosphere, and the food was good, but everything felt extremely overpriced. Charging $24 for one drink is absurd. I enjoyed the experience overall, but the prices make it difficult to recommend. Noteworthy details: From the moment I arrived, I was treated like a regular. The staff made me feel genuinely welcome and at home-never like an outsider in an exclusive club. Their warm, down-to-earth hospitality made the experience truly special.

(Please note I am writing this before the end of my stay)…read more A tale of two cities: My significant other and I are on a bit of a journey up the east coast and we have been blessed to stay in some stunning locations. This review is written on the piggy back of staying in a wonderful location in Asheville. On paper we had a similar experience; greeted warmly by the valet, then again by the concierge. We also have the similar warm plush robes waiting in the room with a welcome note (it's our anniversary). Both locations also boast the roof top bar. In Asheville I sat and drank prosecco and watched the moon rise and then respectively the sun rise over the city. This is where the Hotel Washington takes the turn and as the reader I suggest you ask "what is the experience I am looking for?" The hotel Washington has a beautiful bar with great team members but it is very difficult to see the monuments. There are artificial flowers and pretty lights to give you a spot for lovely photos (of the artificial flowers) and probably look lovely if you're a content creator on social media. But the bar that overlooks the Washington monument has pink lights that reflect off the windows preventing you from actually looking at the monument. In the morning I walked to get a coffee and returned hoping to sit upstairs and watch the sunrise over the city. Nope! "For security purposes" the roof is locked until 4pm. The 4 stars instead of 5 is there is a very heavy perfume in the hotel lobby. It is very heavy and does not seem to have a purpose other than to "not smell of people or outside". This hotel is lovely! The room is comfortable and offers the lavish elegance of a luxury hotel. But the feel this hotel seems to be aiming for is more of a night club and spot for content creators rather than a beautiful building overlooking the amazing history of our country. When booking please consider what you are hoping to get from your experience!

Traveling can be exhausting, and during our stay, my son Colin often went down to the bar and restaurant on his own in the evenings and mornings. He ordered his meals, sat comfortably, enjoyed his time, and never once felt awkward or out of place. The staff made sure he had what he needed, checked in on him naturally, and created an environment where he felt completely at ease. As a parent, that level of care is something you never forget. For me, the experience was just as special. Corey, the bartender, was exceptional. Each evening, he made sure I had exactly what I wanted, when I wanted it, and engaged in thoughtful, easy conversation that made the space feel welcoming and safe. The vibes are opulent- the Peacock Alley is located in the grand lobby, which is massive and airy with a glass ceiling overhead to let in tons of natural light. A harpist also set the mood beautifully, but they didn't stay for very long- they maybe stayed about 30 minutes past our 3:30pm tea appointment. Tea services are offered at 12:00 noon and 3:30pm. The central cherry blossom tree is the showstopper, and the main reason I chose the Waldorf for our afternoon tea. I had heard that there are several cherry blossom-themed afternoon teas all over DC that may have better food options, but this was the only one with decor this grand. My main concern was with our seating. I had called ahead of time to ask if they could accommodate my group to have a close seating location close to the cherry blossom tree due to our special occasion. The staff assured me during two separate calls that they would be able to accommodate our request, but upon getting seated, we were seated in the far corner by the bar. It is true that there is a fair view of the cherry blossom tree everywhere in the lobby, but I was disappointed at our far vantage point given the fact that I had called to confirm a close spot to the cherry blossom tree twice in advance. This is because I wanted to originally schedule the premium experience (premium seating, champagne, and fine china), but it was not available to groups larger than 4 and we were a group of 6. The service was otherwise perfectly fine and the portions of food were generous and tasty. We were all definitely full after finishing our savory bites. Our collective favorites were the chicken cherryaki and crab beignet bites, but we all appreciated the diverse offerings. We also had a friend with a peanut allergy dining with us, and they accommodated her easily by separating her pastries onto a separate tiered tray. It looks like the only item with a possible nut allergen was the crab beignet (her version had tofu). Despite the mild issues with seating, the experience was gorgeous. As a cherry blossom lover, I can see myself doing this every time I'm back in town. - Ambiance: 5/5 - Service: 4/5 - Food: 4/5
