If you appreciate dive-bars, I would wholeheartedly recommend George's for drinks, music, and especially food. Seriously, make sure you order a burger. I come here weekly and alternate between the John Wayne, Hall of Flame, and the Blue-Ribbon burger, you cannot go wrong with those three. Also, if you are a sauce-lover like me, you **must** order a side of the Italian-herb aioli with your fries. I promise, you will not regret it, or go back to ketchup. As far as the crowd goes, you will notice hipsters and grandparents alike (the sign of a good-spot). I would encourage anyone visiting Canton to stop by George's. We were heading to the Palace Theater for an event and decided to eat downtown first. George's was highly recommended by friends. They open at 5 p.m. and we were the second party in the door at 5. Lighting is very dim so we had to use our phone flashlight to see the menu. Restaurant is small and older, but charming. The waitress was quick to take our burger order so we thought we had plenty of time to eat and get to the theater. By 5:50 p.m. we still had no food, nor had the waitress been by to say it would be right out. Other patrons who had arrived after we did had appetizers, then burgers and were putting on their coats to leave before we even had food. A woman who was not our waitress finally came with our food. It was obvious that it had been sitting under a heat lamp for at least 40 minutes. The burgers were tasty; however, the fries were not very warm and they were limp. I had ordered onion rings for an upcharge of $2.99 and I got 4 onion rings. They might have been good, but they were not hot and by this time were a little soggy. The spicy maple mayo for dipping was excellent, however. The food is served in little paper boats with no utensils provided. There were plenty of napkins on the table though. Not one time during our 75 minutes in the restaurant did anyone come over to see if we needed anything, like a refill on water, etc. Our original waitress brought our bill to the table, but it was actually the bill for another table and it was twice as much as ours. Really loves George's so five stars but the burgers today were the worst we ever had. Medium burgers burned so much we could taste the char. Patties much smaller than usual. Pretzel cheese no good. We told them nicely about burgers and I think they took $2 off at best, which is fine, we were not looking for a freebie and ate most of it but a little more shock at how burnt our burgers were would have been nice. I had found George's Lounge in the maps app. After arriving there, completed unfamiliar with the area, I walked right past it with absolutely no intention of going in as it appeared to be a very rough bar scene. All I wanted was a burger. I went around the corner to a bar that looked pretty nice, but unfortunately they didn't serve food. I asked if he had any recommendations as it was already getting late in the evening. The first place he said was George's Lounge. He added that they had excellent burgers. I decided it was worth a try after all if the burgers were supposed to be that good. They actually turned out to be pretty good. There was also a live band from Bowling Green, Kentucky performing. This is probably the worse place I have eaten. If not the worse,then one of the top 3. Since today was National Hamburger Day,we thought let's check around. Trip Advisor gave George's a high rating. There is the clue. The only way one could enjoy these awful,greasy,artery clogging,fish tasting burgers ; is if one were high or very drunk. How do you get mango to taste fishy? The battered pickle chips were over done and not cut in a uniform size. The battered onion rings were so greasy the grease spurted out of our mouths. The burgers? Never mind.....the burgers gushed grease down our arms and the only redeeming factor of the grease is this,my cuticles look manicured now. I used to work at George's way back when. I also have worked as a chef at some of the finest restaurants. The fried foods were overly fried. The sauteed mushrooms and mango tasted like fish. Not sure when the last time they changed the oil in the fryers. 40.00 for two burgers,pickle chips and 2 teas. I am not exaggerating when I say I am contemplating going to the hospital for food poisoning. What a huge disappointment. By the way we were the only customers there,the burgers were supposed to be medium. Outside was burnt around the burgers,inside was red and cold. The bartender was a nice young lady. Terrific burgers, terrific service and handcut fries cooked perfectly! We like to order two sandwiches and then split them between the two of us so we can try a couple of different menu items. We ordered the John Wayne and the December burger of the month (don't remember what it was called) and asked them to cut them in half so we could each have a half. I know this is a little thing, but this is the first time a restaurant actually put 1/2 of each sandwich on each of our plates. Usually they will cut them in half but we have to do the shuffle between the plates. We were there on Saturday at lunchtime and were pleasantly surprised that they had live music. We live about an hour away, but we'll definitely make it a regular stop any time we're near Canton. read more

Ruby is awesome. I found myself in downtown Canton for my cousin's wedding in May 2015. My siblings, their significant others and I decided to bar crawl through this area with some local friends. As the night edged onwards we found ourselves in this little bar. It's not the fancy-smancy type but the food and service was tops. My sister in law got the slider trio and boy oh boy was it delicious.I cannot even recall what we got but the choices go on and on. You have to check them out and try the menu. I definitely can't wait to try and go back to get something even more awesome. No one left hungry, no one was unsatisfied and everyone had a great time. I will begin this review by stating that I liked George's. An old, throwback with a long, circular bar in the middle of this rather crowded space, some booths along one wall, and even a small, private room in the back. A small stage next to the front door allows for some live music. The staff was friendly and fun. A fantastic combination. I thought $6.00 for a 12 ounce craft draft was a bit high. But they do have cheaper stuff, so I can deal with that. I wanted to try the burger, as so many on Yelp have given them some high marks. I ordered the King George: blue cheese crumbles, jerk sauce, crisp bacon and sauteed mushrooms on an egg bun for $8.99. That also includes a generous portion of delicious hand-cut fries. I was there with six friends, four of which tried the burger. This group of friends and I have been traveling the area for the last five years searching for the perfect burger, regardless of cost, so we have some experience in evaluating them. We all agreed it was, well, average. Cooking it just a little bit too long caused it to come out slightly dry. Taste was mostly derived from the toppings. I even resorted to dipping my burger into the ketchup I use for the fries, something I almost never do. So, let's just call it what it is. Bar food. Yes, some pretty good bar food. I'm a local and had heard about George's Lounge for years, but it was only within the last year I was told about their great food. Yes, the burgers and hand-cut fries are usually excellent; most times medium will be well-done but the meat is never dry, so I've always let it go. The beer menu is quite extensive, but skip the mixed drinks. I've found them to be weak with not much attention paid to the mix. Pass on the waffle sundae as well. Recently we ordered one on a splurge night and it was delivered to our table with the ice cream completely melted and missing the peanuts. When we commented on it to our waitress she said, "well... the waffle is hot and it melts the ice cream." Yea, I get that but doesn't that mean you should keep your ice cream colder or make sure it gets to the table in a more timely fashion? Which brings me to service; the seemingly hired for their alternative look female servers are friendly but VERY casual. Service is like when you're at a friend's home for dinner and everyone's stoned; a friend who's cheffing is in the kitchen, the high-as-hell host playing server, EVERYONE. You're happy. EVERYONE'S happy. You're in their vintage rec room grooving to fantastic music, got the munchies and are super hungry. Then you see your host smile and giggle as they walk away from you to either take a hot bath with a glass of wine or to do whatever strikes their fancy. You can smell the aroma of the fresh food, but you don't know if you will ever get it. I always enjoy my time at George's Lounge. I just wish I could eat and drink more to be able to listen to all my selections on the awesome jukebox. Don't come here. My friends and I have been going to George's for around a year. We would go 1-2 times a month and were very very loyal customers. Last night the bar tender decided to reject my friends out of state IDs (they are real and not fakes by the way and our waitress knows this because she had served us multiple times so many times that she knows our regular drinks and would ask us "do you want your regular" when we come in). We tried to protest and ask our waitress to advocate for us and she just freaked out and went and got her manager who was very condescending when she explained "we can actually refuse service to anyone". We used to love it here, but after this experience never going back. We were really disappointed in our waitress and the manager for the way they handled this because they proved that they don't care about loyal legal customers enough to take the time to blue light or scan their IDs to prove they're real. They just refused us service bc they could. They also charged us $10 for a $6 basket of fries, but we were so irritated by the way we were treated at that point we just paid and left. It was also my birthday, and this experience really ruined my night. If you want good service don't come here! read more

Interesting burgers but done with average ingridients. I had a mac and cheese burger on Texas toast. It wasn't bad but it was clear it was the cheapest possible mac and cheese and toast possible. The bar and decor are delightfully frozen in the year 1972 (dark wood paneling, vinyl seats, vintage posters). OMG pretzel bites!!! I ordered them two nights in a row and could have gone back for more! I heard awesome things about the burgers, but didn't eat anything else. If you are into sauces, this place has a ton! I preferred the cheese, but the kamikaze (sp?) was good too.
