The Good: great tasting chicken: Danielle had the chicken & waffles and i had a 4 piece meal w/ fried Brussel sprouts. we both agreed that the chicken was delicious and perfectly fried/crispy. the chicken fingers were also huge. i was worried that 4 chicken fingers wasn't going to be enough to fill me up but i was full by the time I'd eaten 2. each finger was the width of 2 fingers you'd get somewhere else. beverage options: i'm diabetic so i stick to diet/zero sugar sodas or teas. not only did they have diet pepsi, but had diet dr. pepper as well. score! and that cold soda was needed... The Bad (or Bad-ish): Howlin Sauce: incredibly hot/spicy for just a sriracha based sauce. i eat lots of hot and spicy dishes. it wasn't that it tasted bad - in fact, quite the opposite - but it scorched my tongue like nothing has in a while. No Chill (ha): Danielle's chicken and waffles was swimming in syrup so by her waffles were soggy as hell by the time she'd finished. she still loved the meal and just said she'd ask for it on the side next time. Messy: when we arrived, we saw a number of parties leaving one after another. i assume this would be the reason that most of the tables were covered in dirty dishes and empty cups and glasses. since you order at the counter and seat yourself, servers are not around to check on you or the state of the restaurant. so, tables remained messy for a little while before they were cleaned up. Ordering: i don't like the ordering at the counter and lack of server service. the place doesn't look to be set up that way. you'd think there would be servers as it's kinda like a larger bar. instead you order, sit, wait for your food and you're on your own. it's a little like BW3 was back in the day. Slow: seemed to take a long time for chicken fingers. not a huge deal, but i wouldn't have guessed it'd take so long. i don't want to give the impression, though, that it was more bad than good. the food definitely outweighed the negatives. it's a long way from home but i'd go back for sure. i'd like to try some wings and some other sides as well as some of their appetizers. read more

Let me just start by saying this place is great. On Tuesday's they have $6 dollar sandwiches, well it's just 2 of the signature chicken sandwiches. This menu is something else. I sat at the bar, and the bartender was great, very attentive and explained everything to me, even how they cook the fries in a beef bouillon but only on Tuesdays because the Vegetarian customers don't agree with it. Which tells me they must have a huge vegetarian crowd(at a chicken place?). Anyways the fries that came with the Nashville chicken sandwich were amazaballs... and I don't usually get fries, ever. I also order 2 sets of wings, they have traditional and boneless, I went with the bone-in, Nashville rub, it's not just a rub it's saucy, and the Parm/ garlic,. They came out hot/temp, so I ate the sandwich first and piled my coleslaw on-top and it's a soft roll type bun, and poured ranch on some bites cause it has some kick. And the coleslaw came out in a 2 cup container not a little dish, I ate it the whole meal and it was really good. I, half way through, asked the bartender if I could get one of the homemade lemonade that's in the back, that he mention to me, I did not see it at the soda fountain or on the menu. They have a full bar also. I was told the lemonade can be made blueberry or strawberry, I just got the strait up lemonade and it was great, served in a to go cup. And I like lemonade and root-beer, but they just have Barq's root-beer. I got there at about 5 and they have half priced appetizers from 3-6 and they change from day to day. They have a whole menu devoted to "The bird" you can get it whole, half, qtr, and on Wednesday they have .50c wings and they told me they sell out every Wednesday! I can believe it. They have a bunch of different sides, I wanted Mac and cheese but I already ordered for 2 people. I have to say when I sat down the bartender told me to hang on so he could re-wipe my spot. The place is pretty big and they have a downstairs party room you can rent out, with its own bathrooms, the bathrooms upstairs are clean and filled with toiletry, that's a good sign coming from me, bathrooms are a must. Especially if you're eating with your fingers for most of the meal. I would recommend anybody who likes wings and just plain chicken and fixens, this is your place. Well we were looking for someplace new to try to take our old neighbor to as he loves chicken. What a good find. It is an easy drive from Akron where we live. (35 minute drive) My husband & I decided to split the 5 piece chicken strip platter. Yummy, yummy, yummy! Plenty of food for the two of us to spit. This was a repeat trip to the Howlin Bird on a Sunday for the same purchase that we tried about a year ago. This food experiment was not the same as this place overwhelmingly surprised me on my first visit for brunch. The Blueberry pancakes in the past were amazing. This time, it was like someone went in and replaced the entire previous cooking staff which might have happened. These pancakes were not fit for consumption as they were 'gummy' cakes. They're were so horrible there was only one attempt at a bite-fool. My wife didn't even touch her eggs as there was an apparent oil drizzled on them. The wings were amazing, but that was it. I guess we just paid over $64 dollars for twelve wings and soda pop. Our experiment on consumer consistency doesn't seem to be working out. Now that there is another comparative location, we can check more closely if there is a human capital issue or process issue. It was just ok. I usually only go to full service restaurants so I was a bit disappointed to see they didn't have table service. We ordered the Cajun tater tots, I love Cajun and some heat but these were literally covered in spices to the point they were almost black, way too spicy to enjoy. The chicken and waffles were ok, nothing to rave about. The salmon ironically was good which I don't think is what this restaurants speciality is. Nashville hot is serious spicy, good flavor but heed the warning. Mac n cheese was creamy and not overly cheesy flavor, very yummy. Best chicken we've had at any of the comparable fast dining restaurants. Should also note very generous portions at a fair price. We'll have two meals out of this based on what we took home. we have actually had some pretty decent experiences here in the past. However, our most recent experience was deeply disappointing. We ordered Birria tacos, chicken tacos, two orders of wings and nacho supreme on a Thursday night. The Beria tacos were dry and slightly burnt on the outside and the consume was extremely salty. The chips were stale, the chicken was rubbery across the board, and some of the wings appeared undercooked. We will probably give them another shot in the future based on past experiences, but we ended up throwing most of this food away. read more

Went for dinner on a Thursday. The place was decently busy. You order at the counter by the door and wait for delivery. We ordered a pretzel, chicken and waffles, and a chicken tenders plate with mac n cheese. The pretzel is indeed giant. But it was also stale and cold. So we left it. Food came out fast, but it wasn't hot, more luke warm. Chicken and waffles are good, but there is ALOT of syrup. The waffles were soggy, and so was the chicken breading. So sweet and rich. Next time, I would get the sauce on the side. The chicken tenders were giant and juicy. The accompanying sauces were good. We tried the sweet Thai chili, white house, and garlic parmesan. The mac n cheese was disappointing. It's almost good but just doesn't make it. Sauce is decent, but it's soupy, and it's missing something to break up the richness and make it more of a dynamic flavor profile. Ooh look at me using my Food Network training. We placed a quick online order to eat on the road after visiting the First Ladies National Historic Site. My order was ready 11 minutes before the estimated pickup time (estimate was 25 minutes). Parking is in large lot behind the restaurant - be aware that Google maps makes you try to enter the parking lot through an old driveway that's now blocked with bollards. We only got one dish since we weren't that hungry: O.G. Chicken Sandwich ($14) + Upgrade to Loaded Fries ($3.50) - The fries were nicely salted and still remained a bit crisp even though they had been steaming for a couple of minutes in the takeout container. Because we had a takeout order, the loaded fry sauce came in an 8oz container on the side, making it really easy to dip the fries instead of having to eat with a fork. The sauce was cheesy and milky, with sweet caramelized onions, bacon, green onion and with a texture more like fondue than nacho cheese. Very good fries. The sandwich comes with two pieces of fried chicken that tasted well brined and heavily black peppered. The chicken had a perfect crisp and with the additional crunchy pickles and chewy brioche bun resulted in a great sandwich. Some horseradish sauce came in a 2oz container on the side that complemented the sandwich well. I would definitely visit again if I'm ever in the area again. The sauces were Ok-- very similar so wouldn't recommend both the howlin and the garlic next time. Also very thick. Then the blt salad was huge! Really good with crispy chicken and all the fixings. Been wanting to try this place out for a while and finally picked up a take-out order today. The ordering process was pretty easy and a link on their website goes to a site called "chow-now". You can use Apple Pay from your phone which is pretty convenient. The food was outstanding. We got the medium flock which included a rotisserie chicken, chicken fingers and 4 sides. The rotisserie was very tender much more so than anything you could get at BJs or Sam's club. The chicken fingers aren't what you think about when hearing the term....it's more of good pieces of white meat chicken breaded and fried. For the sides; we really enjoyed the mac and cheese, rolls were good, however, the coleslaw was just so-so. Recommend trying them out. We adore the Bird! My wife & I have been multiple times, but we were in there last weekend & had Tyson as our bar tender, whom was an absolute joy. We've had Max before to who is cool. But, Tyson was very conventional, playful, & attentive. Seemed to have a real passion for Mixology. Really, everything you'd want in a bartender. I only have a few minor gripes about the Bird, but it's an amazing restaurant outside of that. The food is always top notch, & the portions are generous. Never been disappointed by anything I've ordered. My only real complaint is that there is no table service, so if you want service you have to sit at the bar. I'm dreading the day I show up & there isn't any room at the bar. That aside, I wish there was a Bird in my town. Speaking of, I heard a rumor that the Bird was looking to expand. There are a handful of locations in Alliance that could work! The real gold mine would be the empty lots around Mount Union, next to Papa Gyros & across from the Methodist Church. But, they would have to stay open later than the Canton location if they really wanted to take advantage of the college population.
