What a great find! Thanks, Yelp! We were driving from VA down to Charlotte and had wanted to stop for some good NC Q, but weren't able to make it in time. So we looked up somewhere else to eat on Yelp and we're so glad we found George's! They were out of anything fried that night (the manager (owner?) came out and said the cooks couldn't change the oil until the morning and had just done a big party with a HUGE amount of fried food and didn't think it would taste good anymore - how considerate!!! Not a big deal to us but the manager was talking to use about how good their chips are, so we'll have to stop back by there another time to try them. I had the spanakopita - It came with a good size Greek salad (with AMAZING homemade dressing and BIG chunks of feta). The spanakopita itself was delicious - the phyllo was nice and crisp and the flavor was amazing. They top it with mozzarella - I've never seen that done before but it was SO good. My sister had the grilled chicken skewers - they were marinated in some kind of delicious seasonings and cooked to perfection - a little char on the outside, but tender and juicy inside. It came with veggies and some amazing rice pilaf. We ordered some extra pita and they brought us some tzatziki - SO GOOD. They were all SO sweet and friendly. We clearly were their last table of the night, but they insisted we take our time. It's a hop, skip, and a jump off I-85 - a GREAT place to stop if you're traveling. You'll feel right at home and get some delicious food. read more

This restaurant was a little tricky getting to in our RV with a trailer but we found a spot on the street. The food was amazing and the service was awesome! I had a turkey rueben sandwich with their homemade pasta salad! Delicious! My husband had the Angus burger a fries also delicious! read more

Food was good to decent. The Mediterranean bobs were the best things out of the spaghetti and pizza we ordered. The current manager, not sure her name, was rude to my wife and the employees working for her over being charged the incorrect amount. If you want to hear the manager walking around talking on her phone or belittling other employees this is the place for you. Professional customer service trumps even the best food. read more

I live in northern VA and my daughter lives in Charlotte NC so this restaurant is midway stop for us to meet for a meal. Since I'm typically dropping off or picking up her dog we need a place with outdoor seating. Recently we planned to meet there and when I pulled up I realized the patio was closed for renovation. I asked Amber for another location in the area but there weren't any. I told her we would order takeout and eat by our cars. She came out and set up a table in the grassy area on the side of the restaurant and insisted on providing table service. The food was excellent. We had a burger, steak and cheese sub and a pizza. Everything was hot and fresh and service was excellent. Amber really went above and beyond and George's will continue to be our meeting spot. read more

This restaurant never fails to DISAPPOINT me, not sure why I gave these people another try tonight for dinner but AGAIN I was HORRIBLY DISAPPOINTED. Ordered a house salad and added salmon, so I must say the salmon was good and it was fresh, but the salad itself was very disappointing. it was supposed to be Romain lettuce and there was literally a "whole bowl full of white heart" of the Romain lettuce under the bottom of the salad, with a very little leafy green from the Romain lettuce to make up the salad. They were big chunks of Cucumbers, not slice but quartered, big chunks of white onion, when asked about red onions the manager stated to me they don't make any of their salads with red onions. After speaking with the manager she was only willing to accommodate me with a $2 dollars off of a $51 bill. The waitress was a sweetheart and very accommodating but this place needs a chef makeover. Just had lunch there in the way to Asheville, it was a great choice. The staff was super friendly our waitress Amber was very attentive and super friendly. My husband had the hamburger with was huge and made with real beef not the kind that you but frozen at the store. I have the chicken grilled sub and the flavoring of the chicken was out of this world. If your traveling down or just in the area definitely give this little gem a shot. read more

Anthony at George's is a great server. He was prompt and remembered all items our party requested. He is very polite and allowed time for indecisive ladies to make up our minds. This was my second visit to George's in Henderson (downtown on N Main/Garnett, across from the old fire station). I had fantastic clam chowder, very creamy and with lots of clams. Their Greek Gyro is very good, and pretty authentic...although the Tsaziki sauce could use a little more onion & garlic for my taste. Good service and a nice atmosphere. Others at the table had the soup (broccoli cheese) and a turkey wrap with house-made chips. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for lunch or dinner that's a cut above most places in the area. read more

This place was highly recommended but was a disappointment... The highlight was our waitress who was in a bad mood but still managed to be enjoyable and quite pleasant. There were five of us... I had the seafood gumbo, it was more like a cioppino with okra served over rice, overall very tomatoe-y. The wings were dry. The firecracker shrimp were overcooked and tough. The chopped steak was tough and the vegetables were not roasted but swimming in oil. The lasagna was good as was the chicken broccoli casserole. The clam chowder was a bit blah, not very many clam pieces and it had too much carrot in it. The beers were cold and quick. Sorry to be such a downer... Had dinner here last nite . They do a great job at spacing the tables . The staff was great and the food was great . I am giving this 4 stars not as much for what I ordered but more so for the table. I will give them a pass on what I ordered as it was me who ordered it and had different expectations. Its a nice little bistro type restaurant downtown henderson. It says american fare but looking at the menu a lot of Italian influence. When we walked in there were 3 tables and all of them had ordered the pizzas. Group of coworkers came in and ordered some appetizers and drinks before dinner. This could be where the american fare came in. Interesting mix, mega fries which are fries with cheese and bacon bits, calamari, and cheese sticks. I ordered the olympian pasta with steak. I was expecting some chunks of roasted red tomatoes and pieces of basil but it was just a cream sauce and lots of cheese. Something didnt taste good I didn't finish. But the other coworkers that got steak said it was delicious. It looked good. If I had a choice to go to eat somewhere in henderson NC I would come back here first. Only reason I'm going high as 3 stars is because the service was great... 2 stars for room temp french fries and a less than stellar burger. The service was perfectly attentive but not overbearing which was perfect for lunch. I was able to get some work done while in Henderson on business. This also gets 3 stars just for not being a chain restaurant in a town of nothing but chains. The food... I ordered a bleu cheese burger and fries. The fries arrived barely lukewarm. This is a cardinal sin! The burger was cooked well done. I couldn't get it cooked to order according to health code which is actually "code" for pre-manufactured frozen patty thrown on the flat top. The only flavor to the burger was the bleu cheese. Oh well.... sigh. read more

Had lunch in this delightful home style restaurant. Nothing special to the decor but it was clean and interesting. My wife and I split an offering of a Greek pizza which had an excellent crust and Alfredo sauce. I would order this again. Fresh simple salads served with warm strips of seasoned Flatbread with olive oil and Italian spices were a nice addition. We also chose the special pork tenderloin with an enchilada sauce, jalapeño and ghost pepper cheese sauce. Very tasty except the portion size was a bit small for the price and the pork a bit dry. But creative and we left a clean plate. Our server Kanika was a delight and suggest you ask for her. Overall a good experience over the many predictable chain restaurants in the area. read more

This place was an oasis of great food, especially on a hot Sunday drive. Service was excellent, as mentioned in other reviews. Food was delivered promptly, even though a post-wedding party of 25 were also in the house. We ordered the sub and a veggie panini. We were also impressed with the warm bread and zatar!! Yum. If you are teaveling up/down I-95 and need a break...most def stop at Georges for a sit down meal. The food was great, and the Waitress was on the spot. The sweet tea is sweet and brewed (you can tell). 1 x Angus burger w/fries (devoured) 1 x South by Southwest burger w/hand made chips (scarffed) 2 x fish and chips (fries) (too large, had to box) 1 x gyro wrap (thanked the Chef) ... right at $50 We are definitely making this a permanent 'break' point on our trips to visit family. read more

Henderson always seems to have one must-go place for fine dining -- and only one, if you don't belong to the country club. George's currently is it. Do yourself a favor: Order one of the specials or something that takes some effort, because George's does them well. The pasta, pizza and steak are good but pretty ordinary. If you order the tuna, follow your instincts and order it cooked as little as possible, even if the waitress seems to think it's beef and wants you to order it medium to well done. (The wait staff is not knowledgeable, but the kitchen staff seems to be.) Also do yourself a favor: Make reservations if you have a large group. read more

Henderson NC has very few sit down dinner options and George's is a pleasant surprise. Located downtown in an historic building with ample parking in their own lot. The place is nicely decorated and low key with a comfortable dining area and a bar. Reasonable prices. Wide variety of dishes on the menu from Greek fare to steak and pork chops to pasta and pizza plus chef specials. Very attentive staff. The only other comparable option in this town is a Ruby Tuesdays. Avoid the Ribeyes Steakhouse at all costs. read more

We ordered our food, got drinks... everything is okay. But wait... you rated 1 Star? Here it goes. I order steak and ask for it rare. Food takes forever, sides come out wrong and sadly very bland. Ask butter, a single packet comes. Steak is beyond well done. I cut into it and eat the slightest sliver. No seasoning. Server clearly sees what happens and asks "how is the streak, good?" I tell her, "sadly, no. It's well done." She responds "yes, I saw it was burned" ... why the hell would you serve it then???? She tells me she can discount my meal. I don't eat the sides, the steak or anything on the plate she brought me. I finish the appetizer because nothing is right and seems to just be freezer made entrees. She discounts the steak by $4 for a meal I ate maybe $0.03 of the plate. Not cool. The worst part though? The server, African American woman in her 30's literally begging for tips. Going into long sob stories about how she never makes any money on Christmas. I was going to tip her well anyways but the service was poor. She didn't earn the big tip but got it - but she made the entire table feel reaaaaaally awkward. Really unprofessional. I won't be going back. read more
