I wish this place was better than it is: it has all of the makings of a nice little local steak house in the downtown of Oxford. Sadly, the main thing it's got going for it is a loud bar scene, and a well-stocked salad bar. Hot entrees here are hit or miss, and the service at the front of the house always seems either ready to ignore you so that they can eat family meal, or ready to fight over you sitting down at one of their tables. Case in point: it's best to order the prime rib on "Prime Rib Night," rather than an off night, because your medium rare cut is going to get really jacked up when they throw it on the flat top to warm it up before they pour a bunch of jus on the plate ("That's the way it's supposed to look, ma'am"). Fish? As long as you're sticking to salmon, which they seem to turn a decent amount of, go for it. Compound butters in plastic cups for your choice of starch? Check. No thanks, save the steamed broccoli for someone else. Like I said, I wish this place had better food, and better non-bar service. They'd be better served moving toward more of a pub-style food service, and to expand the bar, as it seems to be the center of the business. read more

So this place has had many names. One day after work I was invited to visit it again, but as it's new reincarnation, Oasis. While skeptical, I decided to give it a try. I walked in the restaurant and was pleased by the warm vibe of the décor. The bar is quite small, actually really small. The bar doesn't lack seating room, but rather, room in general... I was impressed by the selections of beers on draft. I was pleasantly surprised to find my self somewhere local and drinking a Shotgun Betty. After a beer or two or four, the lack of room at the bar became irritating and we made our way to a table. It was dead on a Wednesday evening, plenty of places to sit, so which is hard to understand why it would be difficult to expand the bar space. After the waitress walked around I was overwhelmed by suggestions of friends to try the Oasis burger. I decided to follow their advice and after 10-15 minutes our orders were out. The Oasis burger was absolutely delicious. It was amazing. I would definitely go back and be that guy that says "try the Oasis burger, try the Oasis burger" because it really is that good. I was not impressed with the generic French fries that I would expect to see poured out of a food lion brand freezer bag. Yet, they were still slightly appealing. Though there was literally three out of 20 tables occupied the waitress pretty much never checked on us and I was desperately needing some napkins. I would definitely return in the future. I consider myself a foodie. Walked in at 845 pm and I had a pretty outstanding bison burger. Server was new but friendly and helpful. The bartender mixed draft beer to make a delicious concoction from red oak and hummingbird. We left happy and with a full bellies of delicious food. 5 stars all the way they killed it. read more

Avoid this place unless you are looking for a local watering hole. Entrees are over priced and simply not good. Steaks are thin and unflavorable. Baked potaoes are small and microwaved. Chicken is rubber. Steak fries are heated up generic version of frozen Ore-Ida. They do have a decent salad bar. Most business is at the bar or event seating for small parties or receptions. read more

Went to the Oasis for dinner with a group of 12. Three people sitting closest to me complained their food was undercooked including my own, I had the mahi-mahi. Service was slow and when we complained to the owner about the under cooked food he did not even apologize. The tomatoes on the salad bar were old and all of the dressings were from a bottle. Like several other reviewers have alluded to, this place seems to miss the mark, especially given the prices they charge on their dinner menu. Food quality is fair to poor. Just order the "Ultimate" sandwich and you will wonder,,,what the???,,,,. Draft beer selection is good and cold but quality of mixed drinks needs work. Atmosphere seems to be leaning more towards bar with very expensive entrees. Lunch menu appears to have better selection and much more reasonably priced but have not tried. read more

do not eat at main street oasis in oxford. their bathrooms were filthy. they also had no toilet paper and no paper towels. the manager refused to compensate me in any way for my inconvenience. the manager also seemed to think that being busy was an excuse for having a filthy bathroom. read more

My husband and I have been here twice now. I've been VERY impressed with the food both times. The first time around we both had fish (salmon) and our kids had the chicken strips kids meals. Yes, in spite of the cloth napkins and table cloths and candles, they have a kids meal, which at $5.95 is a good price for the amount of food they got (and I tasted the chicken, it was also very good). We just went again Sunday night. My husband got the chopped bison steak, not only was is beautifully presented, but VERY good. I got the 10oz Ribeye, I like my steak rare, red throughout but warm. It was perfectly done, tender and tasty. They have a very good salad bar, a nice selection of wine and beer (I enjoyed the house merlot). The atmosphere is cozy, the service was excellent. We plan to make it a regular outing. Best place to eat in Granville county in my opinion. read more
