We came across this place with pretty low expectations. Also, this place was called a different name when I had originally looked up through Google Map. It's located in the Clarion Hotel off of the exit. My husband and I were driving to a conference for our son and came across this on the way. We decided to stop here for lunch before arriving to our destination and it seemed pretty sketchy at first. It did look like that area use to not be a safe area. Anyways, I guess the name changed and ownership and we decided to get some "bar" lunch food to fuel up. I got one of their wraps with a side of onion rings, my hubby got their wings, and our son got some chicken tender and tots. The food came out really quickly and hot! It was REALLY good. Even my husband was shocked. The wings were cooked just right and the flavor was there. The tots had a very great crisp to it and the onion rings hit the spot for me. This location has changed owners over the years - the restaurant is within the property itself including banquets areas and accommodations- In the restaurant- delicious food - friendly knowledgeable staff - notably buffet brunch sometimes on the weekends of which I plan to visit soon &will add photos. There is a full bar service. The menu options are versatile- This is a one level location - lots of complementary parking & accessible parking available.I believe there is a DJ providing music sometimes but better to call in advance. The location is ridiculously situated a stones throw from I 85 exit 204 Oxford NC - several other shopping experiences close by and about 10 miles from a hospital. read more

Hidden little gem in the Clarion hotel! No idea it was there until I checked in and went to bar. The restaurant and hotel is new with gorgeous design and ambiance. The surprise was that the food is excellent. We ordered a few items including wings, Caesar salad, salmon, burger and pasta. My wife and I were impressed with everything we ordered and the food came out quick. The service staff was very kind and attentive. My only complaint would be that they need more of a wine (and by the glass) selection, and some kind of sign on the road so people know they are there! Otherwise - eat there! read more

I went into this place not knowing what to expect. This location inside the hotel has been somewhat cursed with a high turn over rate of restaurants. This area also used to be a pretty bad part of town although it seems the hotel at least has cleaned up and it shows. I went in for a very late afternoon lunch. It was almost empty when I arrived. Good atmosphere with pool tables. Looks like it would be a good spot to catch a game. My waitress was so friendly and on point I wish I could remember her name so I could give her credit. She even brought me free fresh chips and a dip made out of sour cream and guacamole while I waited. I had the PGB Nightlife, which was a plate of nachos and wings. The wings were okay. I liked that they were covered in hot sauce, though. The nachos I really liked. They were made using Doritos chips. I don't think they'd be for everyone, but as the name suggests, this would be an awesome late night food for when you are drunk and have the munchies, haha. read more

It wasn't very busy about 5 people in at the bar no one anywhere else in the place. I sat down and was asked if I'd like a drink. I said sure can I see a drink menu (they don't have one). Strike 1... Ok I asked so what do you make well. To was told by the bartender I'm a professional bartender I can make anything. Strike 2... Ok well what the best drink you make (drumroll please) Long Island iced tea. Ok I'll take it. After sitting for a while with no food listening to the few employees complaining about how much they don't like being here and the problems they had with management I asked for a menu. Strike 3... (No offense but I'm here to chill and watch a game. I don't need to know the internal problem of your business.) I was given a menu as the bartender went back to his coworkers so they could continue complaining. Fun fact prior to the coworkers coming in he didn't interact with a single person at the bar. No small talk no what team are you here for no banter nothing he just went behind the register and pretended we weren't there. I ordered a club sandwich since I thought the odds of messing this up were slim at best. I was right it wasn't bad at all. However, it did take almost 30-40 minutes to be brought to me. As I sat there a few people came and went never more than 10 total people at any given time and I witnessed the same thing I experienced several times over. I left with a close game in the 4th quarter due to poor overall service. I came back a couple of weeks later during the week hoping to see that I was just there on a bad day. Same bartender very similar experience but this time there were even fewer people there and I was the only one at the bar. This is a small city and I was excited to get a sports bar with the NFL package. Since I'm a fan of an out of state team I maybe back next season sometime but I now know what I'm in for. read more

We are so hopeful for new restaurants to succeed in beautiful Oxford. Here comes Penn's Bar and Grill, right off of exit 204 on highway 85. A little historical background: John Penn, who owned land in present-day Stovall, was a member of the Continental Congress and one of North Carolina's three signers of the Declaration of Independence. We were here for two occasions: a night out for dessert on their opening day, and a Saturday morning brunch. The brunch was wonderful! My omelet was well-seasoned and full of filling. My son ordered pancakes, which were so delicious that we ordered a second helping! Hubby was happy with his steak and eggs (reasonably priced at 11 dollars) and the sausage gravy. We were the only ones in the restaurant, so the service was great! The brunch menu is really imaginative with some surprises as well as classics. Call ahead: brunch is only served on certain days. We also were there on opening night for dessert. The "live music" was a DJ with a laptop playing way too loud awkward wedding music (Ride a Horse, Save a Cowboy) and several people we talked to waited 2 hours for their food. Desserts were unexceptional: thawed frozen chocolate cake (Costco?) and an apple cobbler we didn't finish because it was gummy and made with too much baking soda. The dinner menu is exciting and interesting, so I hope their subsequent services go better. In closing, go try the brunch! And support Oxford establishments! So they're still slow and getting the hang of it. New restaurants are tough- I've helped open one. The FOOD WAS AMAZING. The service was unorganized. My mother in law didn't realize her check wasn't right until we left. Fortunately for her, the error was that they didn't put a drink on our bill. I'm weary about their live music nights, but haven't witnessed one yet. Keep trying, they'll perfect every shift! I'm excited for the food! Great location! First time customer, ordered Penn's classic ribeye WELL when I receive my order steak wasn't as ordered Silver-ware dirty ordered drinks from BAR never received them! IF I COULD I WOULD GRADE -0 Potatoes was just thrown on plate Too much juice on vegetables My family&Husband spent over 60$ and nothing was right! What a pleasant surprise Penn's Bar and Grill is in the Clarion Inn & Suites in Oxford, NC just off 85. Our waitress was so pleasant and just the right amount of attentiveness. Our Caesar Salad was crisp with fresh shaved Parmesan. My salmon with fresh asparagus perfect along with my sweet potato fries. My husband enjoyed his New Penne with freshly shaved Parmesan (complete with shrimp and small amount of bacon) and a side of perfectly cooked broccoli. Coffee also very good. read more

I went to the restaurant on a Monday to try the all you can eat crab legs. My family of 3 arrived on time for our reservation at 7:15pm. Since it was over booked we decided to sit at the bar. We then ordered our basket of crab legs at 7:15pm. Literally an hour later we still had not received our 3 clusters of snow crab legs. A customer demanded to see the manager but we were all told that she was in the back cooking. After a few minutes the irate customer stepped to the door of the kitchen to speak with the manager and still she refused to come into the dining room. The all you can eat special was from 6pm - 9pm. We finally received 1 basket at 8:35pm (meanwhile others who were there before us whom had received their crab legs continued to get their baskets refilled). I understand if this were new and all the kinks weren't worked out, but from working in the restaurant industry for about 7 years I would have appreciated if the manager showed her face just one time. Needless to say myself nor family will not be visiting that establishment ever again. You truly get what you pay for. read more

Visited Penn"s for lunch with a party of 12 to celebrate a birthday. We had a waitress named Maia (hope I spelled it correctly) who was awesome. She was so courteous and checked on us quite often but not to the point of being bothersome. She and another waitress even sang "Happy Birthday". I am giving 3 stars for service. Our server was prompt, kept drinks filled, and was very pleasant. Food...0 to 1 star. We started with the crab dip. They served it with deep fried flatbread. The flatbread was way too greasy. We asked for some that hadn't been fried and they brought it out cold which was nasty. The crab dip tasted super fishy. Our server was sweet and took it off the bill after we told her we shouldn't have to pay for something we didn't eat. One person had a burger that they said was alright. Tge others had the crab cakes (they were out of mashed potatoes) so we had to have fries. The crab cakes were covered in some type of sauce that was not good and since they poured it over them (it didn't say they came with a sauce so you couldn't ask for them to leave it off) you had no choice but to eat it. The crabcakes themselves were mushy. The fries were hard. The only good thing was the broccoli. And so slow. We waited for 45 minutes to get our meal and there were only a couple of other tables in the restaurant. So sad. I really wanted this place to be good and last in Oxford. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. Went in and ordered and it took 20 minutes to get our order taken. There were only 6 tables or so occupied in the whole restaurant. Other people with us ordered before we did. And got there apps thirty minutes after their entree and after asking 5-6 tines where they were. We sat there for 30 minutes or so and didn't ever get our appetizers or salads. Finally my sons entree came out after about 45 minutes after ordering before his salad of course. I asked about my meal, appetizer, and both our salads. The waitress came back to ask what did we order. I told her and then they attempted to bring my entree with was incorrect and mind you before salad and apps. I explained The order was incorrect and which they came back and ask again what our order was. I told then to forget it I didnt Want it anymore as we had been there well over an hour at this point. They then attempted to bring my entree again anyway which was again incorrect. I reiterated I did Not want it anymore but that my son would like his salad at which time they asked again what did he ordered. We were there for almost an hour and half. Never did get apps or salad unless you count the salad he got twenty five minutes after his entree. To top it off they bought the check and said everything I didnt get had been removed however the $21 ribeye and $10 wings we never got were in the bill. Looks like it could be a nice place but the kitchen must be a mess and the service was awful even though the server was apologetic, they never could get it together.
