Hey y'all it's the fat boy back at it. Today I wanted a nice gyro and was recommended to try George's out. Located in Bridgeport on halsted in White Sox land. The decor was nice and clean lots of Chicago sports paraphernalia mostly the White Sox. The service was very nice. There were 3 young ladies there handling business they were very polite and nice. 9.5/10 Now for the food. We ordered the Gyro and fries. They give you nice size portions. They Gyro had nice flavor. Fresh beautiful tomatoes but was a little dry. The onions weren't that great but it worked 7/10. The tzatziki sauce was very tasty. It definitely helped the sandwich 7/10 The fries are the skinny ones which is fine to me. Just fries 6/10 The meal was very reasonably priced! We ordered 2 gyro meals which totaled about $20!! Somehow I've lived most of my life in Bridgeport and this went completely under my radar... Well it's never too late and I am glad we tried them. We had the gyros plate, jalapeno poppers, and fried mushrooms. They were super efficient and the portions were plenty. Our girls loved it too! Just wanted to share my experience today - placed an order for pickup. I called and they immediately answered(always a good sign) and took my order, I could already tell they have great customer service. Food was ready promptly, the pricing of the food was very fair with a great portion size, and the staff was just as kind in person as they were on the phone. I ordered a gyro sandwich + a gyro plate. Solid gyro, fresh ingredients, and once again - very good portion size. All for around 25$, I also got some extra things like sauce + extra pita. Inside also very clean and somewhat spacious. Went in for a quick lunch after work today and ordered a gyro plate, it comes with a decent amount of meat, onions, tomatoes, fries and a nice sized cup of tzatziki sauce. I also had a medium drink and a cup of cheese sauce. The service was friendly (all women when I was there) and quick. The place looks remodeled and was clean and the menu had many other options. A friend of mine wanted to check our George's. I have to say the exterior I didn't know what to expect. The food, I have to say was top notch! I did really enjoy the gyro and fries a special. Was enough food to be full. Easily one of my top gyro spots I have tried in my life time. The service was good too. A very large party was a head of us. Definitely felt like the wait staff really was on there A game! I like how nice everyone was to us. The ambiance, initially I didn't know what to think. After sitting down it did feel like everyone who was there were regulars. I did like the decor that was on the walls, make the vibe very homey. Decent. Did the job for a desperate dad after school. The pros of this place are the warm staff & definitely the prices. Basically got an appetizer, enteee & kids meal for about $20. If it's any constellation my daughter mentioned that the grilled cheese was amazing. Also the fried zucchini in the sampler was quite tasty as well. With those accolades aside the shrimp fell quite flat. They were popcorn size & had zero flavor as did the accompanying fries. First time visit. What a great experience! The restaurant is a combination of classic and modern. All the Chicago hot dog stand food you love plus some dinner type meals as well. While I grew up in Chicago and love this type of food, I no longer eat meat. So you would think this wouldn't be a great restaurant for me. How wrong you are! Best veggie burger I have ever had! Finally got to check out George's Gyros! We picked up the gyro sandwich, gyro dinner, and grilled chicken breast pita on a Friday night. They were all solid. The gyro dinner and gyro sandwich seemed like the same thing, except the dinner was deconstructed and came with two pitas, so maybe it was more food. I think I prefer the sandwich since it's already assembled. The gyro meet was very good, tender and excellent flavor. The grilled chicken was also very tender, but I liked the gyro better. The fries weren't very good. We got takeout, so maybe they would be better if we had them on site, but they were very soft and soggy. Overall, it was a good meal, but we weren't blown away. read more

Yes, the service here is slow. And, yes, they don't write down your order and often slip up. But the food here is decent. And the ladies who run the place are a delight. There is lots of seating. And parking is ample out front and around the block. On my most recent visit I ordered the chicken salad. It had a huge portion of chicken. Almost a full chicken breast. I asked for an extra side of dressing (which they do charge for), and it turned out delicious. The breakfast is great too. Call ahead to see when they stop serving. Mother in law ( tamale with chili) is delicious. I love how they change the soup everyday but always offer the chili. My wife and I tried them a few weeks again and thus far been there twice. When you walk in, you are greeted by a well-organized quick-serve restaurant staffed by an all-female staff. They are on the top of their game from a service and grill standpoint. A local fast food joint with an extensive menu. We got some gyros, fried zucchinis, and soup of the day (split pea soup). The fried zucchinis were medallions instead of sticks but they were good. The gyros were packed with meat, 2 slices of tomatoes, and a little onion and sauce. It was so much meat that i had to remove a good amount from my sandwich. The amount of extra meat that i removed from my sandwich could have made another gyro sandwich. The split pea soup was perfect. The people working were friendly. This seems like a neighborhood spot. I stopped in this restaurant last week and purchased a gyro platter and OMG this was the best gyro that I have ever had. The fries were fresh and the meat was not over salted like most gyros spots season their meat. I will definitely be back this week and will bring along a couple friends.
