Got some pretty great beers from this brewery. It has kind of a limited selection but it still has interesting ones to choose from. Whiner Beer Company is located in a pretty interesting building in Back Of The Yards. Has other things to check out when not having a few cold ones. There's also a limited menu of pizza. Coming in here it seemed like it would be a great place for banquets and gatherings. It's located in the building known as The Plant. There were only a few people here and it seemed pretty quiet. A lot of people just don't know about it. The beers are the best things but it also has more. A lot of the beers seem to have a theme about care. It's about $7 a pint. Best of the ones we had was the Miaou. This is a dry hopped Belgian style wheat. Hoppy while still being not too hoppy. There's also pizza. Kind of limited and expensive. The pizza mostly has meaty toppings. Has to be one of the most interesting places in this pretty rough area. It's pretty cool to come when the rest of the vendors here are open. They're closed Mondays to Wednesdays. read more

Whiner is one of our favorite places to go to! They have pop up kitchens. We recently went to try the smash burger and the chop cheese pop up they had last week and found out they were having the smash jibarito. We couldn't miss the opportunity! We got a double smash jibarito and the ogilla. The double smash was fire! It tasted so clean and the animal style sauce was so good! My favorite had to be the ogilla. It was simple but the garlic aioli was too die for. It made an amazing sandwich so much better. I love going to whiner during any time of the year! Interior is pretty nice and they have a decent variety of beers but I wish they had something more hazy/potent to my liking. I tried two hard kombuchas which weren't bad but a little light on the flavor output. My friends had a single beer and a flight each and they enjoyed their drinks. I wish more food options were available. They had a bbq place and vegan fish fry. I saw pictures of pizza when looking up the place and got excited but pizza was not offered tonight. I tried a vegan fish filet which was ok but lacked flavor. My friend had a smoked chicken wrap which she enjoyed and had enough to take home for leftovers. This is such a cute spot to hang out with friends! I love the atmosphere, the laid-back vibe, and the friendly staff. The beers were delicious, with the Ube-flavored one being my personal favorite--it was unique and refreshing. Pizza here is amazing! We had a really large group and all the pizza came out fast and didn't lose any quality. Mostly ate the cheese pizza, and I don't eat Pork but I couldn't resist eating a slice of the honey hot pepperoni, which was so good, but really spicy the only pizza that wasn't my favorite from the ones we tried was to mushroom because it was just too many mushrooms. Tried their frozen drink and wasn't a fan at all it was not sweet. Would definitely return here with friends on my next visit. The location is also really cool. read more

This brewery is located in an industrial area of the Back Of The Woods neighborhood which, unless you're going out of you way to come here, it really is quite random. It's tucked on a random street where it dead ends. I've been here a few times now, and their set up is interesting. The plants with the little lights at the tables are now. I've enjoyed their beers when I've come here as well. I do feel like there could be a little more. I'm not sure what it is. Maybe some art on the walls, and some more entertainment. Besides that though, it's always nice to support a local brewery! I'll come back soon again... hopefully when it's a littler bit livelier (last time we came it was Sunday at their near closing time). read more

I did a yelp roulette for national beer day and came across their beautiful place!!! I'm so in love with the vibe and the looks of this place!!! Real plants are literally coming out of the middle of the tables and are all around you. They are big on recycling and taking care of our planet. They also craft their own beer as they are a brewery. The food!!! THE FOOD!!! D E L I C I O U S!!!!!! I had the smoked cauliflower and my honey bear had the half rack of BBQ ribs. I can't even explain Ahaha you just have to go see for yourself. The beer was perfect!!! Just what I've been needing. I'll be bringing my family here in June when they come visit. Not only do they allow children inside but they also allow you to bring your fur baby!!! This is such an amazing thing because not a lot of places out here allow you to bring your puppers so we will also be bringing our fur baby to enjoy some of the other dogs and ribs. Parking was good for us! We didn't have to pay and we were able to park right up front. Tbh I wouldn't know how the parking would be as it got to busy because I didn't see much parking when we did park. The service was AMAZING!!! The bar tender literally gave us $1 to play a game of pool because I was dying to play but didn't have cash or my card. Such a cool bar with an intricate aquaponic system, farmer's market and lots of space. The beer is excellent with some of the best sours in the country proving that despite a lacking of historical beer making, the US leads the way in experimental beer. Inside, it feels almost like you're transported to a totally different time before the pandemic, while also (for those public health nerds like me...) recognizing that there is plenty of space and at lease 144 sq ft per person to avoid the spread of COVID, even without masks. All the beers on tap were great. We were able to order 2 flights and get all 9 beers and 1 hard seltzer on tap which was a great way to explore before committing to a full drink. We also ordered the bee sting pizza, which was stellar. For those who are vegetarian/vegan, they also had veg/vegan pizza options as well. It's a 6.4%ABV barrel aged saison. This cutie of a beer really sets the scene for the rest of the pack. With a tart lemon base, you can't help but to feel like your in a bathtub filled with bubbles. If you like that, you'll love BUBBLE TUB! A carmel 6.2%ABV that brings watermelon to a whole new level. Tart. Tart. Tart. Refreshing. And a party in a can. Speaking of party, COOLSHIP SASHA is the all sour beer with a blast of raspberry bubbles. Want to slow things down a little? Service is friendly and attentive, plenty of seating, great variety on tap, and very reasonable prices, especially if you take advantage of their happy hour. I had been hearing about this place for a while, and my husband and I finally went, on a cold Sunday afternoon, with our daughter and her boyfriend who were visiting us from San Francisco. We had a great time -- satisfying and in some instances, surprising beer and hard kombucha, low-key pool table action, and picturesque surroundings. We bought several six packs to take with. We were pleased and "Chicago proud" with our San Francisco Millenials' approval and enjoyment. We finally checked out Whiner Beer Company after delaying a visit due to its 'off-the-beaten-path' location. But I am here to report that you need to visit Whiner Beer Company, and you need to visit it right away! This hidden gem is absolutely fantastic and one of my favorite locations I've visited yet in Chicago! First of all, the space is wide open and conducive to large groups. Parking is not a problem, so bring your groups here for a delicious brew and conversation! It also has free WiFi and is homey enough to come, grab a brew, and get some work done! The beer is fantastic! I tried four different beers while here and loved the unique flavors of each! This is definitely an outstanding brewery amidst Chicago's diverse and booming craft scene...and I've been to over 60! So if you're a beer lover...you must hit this place up! Next, the situation got even more glorious as we realized that the brewery had a bakery attached that makes woodfire pizzas and savory pies! Shoutout to Pleasant House Bakery! My partner and I shared the 'Chicago Sting' Pizza and the 'chicken balti pie.' I'm rolling in decadent carby joy and have no regrets! I can't wait to try more! Stopped in after the farmer's market at The Plant today. The space is very unique with a lot of fun lighting and decor, as well as some very interesting functional features that aid the plants in the building! The seating area was well-spaced out to follow CDC guidelines and there was hand sanitizer already waiting on our table when we sat down. I'm very much not a big beer drinker, but I had a Le Tub variant with blueberries and it was actually quite light and tasty! I didn't try the pizza this time but it looked quite good and definitely would have paired well with the beer I had! read more

Great location and plenty of local street parking near the brewery. Area inside is fairly large to walk around and just like outside in the atrium, the inside has a large bar to sit and plenty of tables. The selection is written on the black board and distributed along the tables. I enjoy the free play of pool-tables and the atmosphere. So why the three stars, well the fruit flies every where was driving me nuts. I mention that to the bartender and she said cause the garbage can's and live plants every where - disgusting. Ever had an owner give someone else your credit card?? Ever had an owner give away your credit card then tell you it happened because "oh there was more than one card with the name Katherine?"... multiple credit cards with the first same name happen every day. Check the last name. The owner then told me he knew the person who he'd accidentally given my card to and took my number so he could follow up with me. Not only has he not followed up, this other customer he allegedly knows has attempted to use my card 5 times... I have locked it but Chase alerts me each time. So now I'm going to have to call Chase, dispute the $75 charge that this supposed known other customer charged at a hotel before I locked it, cancel the card and probably continue to receive 0 follow up from the brewery. Class act. I even called in last night to make sure they had my number correct after seeing the $75 charge. And still nothing! read more

I was a bit wary because this is situated on a not so driven road. But it was a great experience. I like that there are multiple businesses within this building and there is a bit of history posted throughout. The beer was great! So many selections. I personally liked the Raaka and my companion really liked the Le Tub. This is a really chill environment to do some work, or chill out. The music is very melodic and lounge worthy. Great brewery with a really cozy and bright atmosphere. I had the mango gelato IPA, my fiancé had the bubble tub (with watermelon). Both were good though didn't quite hit our note (though we both like pretty un-beery beers, like strong sours or stouts). This place is nestled in an interesting collection of small businesses called the Plant and there's a loading dock turned into a turtle pond in the front! There is a little outdoor seating (~ 4 high tops) but it's not glamorous - smelled strongly of fish everywhere and lots of wasps. But I don't fault the brewery for this - I'd just recommend you drink inside. Would love to come and try more beers! read more

I'ma let you finish Whiner.... I've been wanting to stop at Whiner for awhile now. After hitting up Marz, we decided to stop in here, but that almost didn't happen. As we rolled up and got the last spot available, we see a large group of people walking through the garden attached to the building heading back inside. Apparently, early afternoon is poppin' due to the market they have going on and the tours of "the plant". This means, if you just are here to drink some beer, you might want to hold off until late afternoon, otherwise it's kind of a madhouse. Just as our buzz was dying and we were about to leave, a bar seat opened up, and then another one! Score. Beers are a little pricey, and if you know anything about Whiner, then you'll know what type of beers to expect. Once people cleared out and we were able to sit back and relax, I was able to really take in the space. It's cute. It's inviting. It's cozy. I think it's really cool that they're part of "the plant" and even though it seems like a random neighborhood to be in, it kind of also just seems like this building belongs. Staff was very friendly. Beers hit the spot. We left something we hoped they'd laugh at, and they seemed to have had a good sense of humor about it, which solidifies my opinion that they're cool people. Pleasant House is upstairs and I don't remember if they bring pizza down or you have to go get it (I *think* they bring it down, you definitely go upstairs to order it though) and we talked so much stuff about "this tiny $18 pizza" that ended up being delicious and filling and might even be the reason we head back sooner rather than later. All in all, the staff at Whiner is really great. The atmosphere is very welcoming and chill, unless you're there for the farmer's market (which is year round), then it's a little chaotic, but ultimately Whiner is the Frankie to my Grace. read more

This location is off the beaten path but plenty of free parking and right next to this really nice garden area there's always outdoor events. Got into visit Whiner on Sunday. I highly recommend a stop here... The Place: off the beaten path for sure...super cozy kind of cool little place...they have this whole green 0 waste thing going on and it was all pretty Interesting. Any way was super quiet and found seating easy. Place is well decorated and have lots of live plants so it's super inviting nice place. The Food: they have a pizza place attached but we did not eat. The Beer: Definitely are a sour leaning brewery..so lot of sour beer. However they have some Pale Ales to go along with that, sadly no stouts on my visit. Their Kitty Kitty is a very approachable beer and should please most average craft drinkers...I had an outstanding coffee sour that was fantastic..I just can't remember the name. The Staff: Very friendly staff...were knowledgeable and ready to answer questions. No complaints. Overall...I'll definitely be stopping in again!! That should say it all. read more

Once again a review way past prime time in terms of a late summer visit. First of all I went in on a Saturday on a bright sunny afternoon. Gotta tell ya Elaine knew her beers and was extremely courteous engaging me in conversation. An excellent bar hostess. Whiner specializes in barrel fermented sours and Belgians which are a different "style" of beer then what some people are accustomed to. I've been drinkin' beer for about 40 years so I have drunk alot. I love this place and will be going back when the weather warms. The beer is EXCELLENT - but some people who are not adventurous in taste as I will have to expand their taste buds. Don't worry - you will like the results. Whiner is located in the PLANT which is another story but really cool place. It's like a self contained world in the city. The hood is kind of desolate at night but I think it's all good. So take some time on day trip to the historic Back of the Yards - have as many beers as you like at Whiner, take the tour of the Plant and order some pizza fresh from Pleasant House right at the Plant. Little hidden gem. I really like Miaou beer so had this brewery bookmarked and decided to stop in a few Fridays ago. It's in a warehouse that also hosts Pleasant House Bakery. While there is no food served in the brewery, you can order pizza from Pleasant House to eat while you enjoy your beer. A majority of their beers are sour beers (which I love) but even Jordan (who dislikes sours) found several great beers for him to enjoy. I really like Miaou beer so I was surprised to find that most of the other sour beers I drank while I was there, I actually preferred over Miaou... that's how good they were! I already have a trip planned to come back during one of their Saturday indoor farmers market. Can't wait! read more

Chicago rising! How can you not feel great about a former meat packing plant that now houses a cluster of hip businesses dedicated to low waste and sustainability practices? More of this please. Since 2011, "The Plant" has been housing multiple businesses that feed their waste products into each other (e.g. a fish farm, gourmet mushroom farm, a brewery, a coffee roaster, a bakery) and much of the remaining waste goes into an anaerobic bio-reactor to help offset energy demands. The Whiner Brewery is the easiest way to visit the Plant. It specializes in playfully named sour beers, such as the Miaou and the Rubique a Brac, that are a refreshing break from the hoppy bears that dominate many microbrews. The room is gorgeously lit with large tables that house planters brimming over with green. The windows are crossed strangely with clear plastic tubes, that if I read it right, grow algae as food for the fish farm downstairs(!). Wax candles light the ends of the bar and a "Las Yardas" hat on a high shelf makes clear this place understands its place in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. The Pleasant House Pie crew upstairs now bakes pizzas that they deliver downstairs - perfect for dinner and a drink. Maybe the feel-good businesses in the Plant bring out the best in people here - this is one of the friendliest spaces I've found in Chicago. I can teasingly complain about local Ernie, a friendly well-travelled ex-Marine who put me up to a game of pool and then ran the table. Elena behind the bar will delight you with the tunes she picks for the playlists, conversation, and a kind pour. If you catch the friendly regular Jeremy as he drops by after a long shift, he will boost for Whiner from his barstool and give you tips on the off-menu beer selection. It's off the beaten path to get here, but beating a new path is the spirit of this place and what we all need to be doing more of. Get out here and have a time of it. read more

They offer tours of their brewing facilities on Saturdays, which you can see as you enter the bar. Really neat space. The style is similar to most rehab of manufacturing facilities: timber loft and exposed bricks. It's rustic and warm. Our friend reserved several tables for a party of 30 and no deposit or minimum was required. More than 40 people showed up and the space accommodated all of us. Perfect space for parties with very friendly and helpful staffs. The only thing was I actually didn't love any of the beer offerings. I got a tasting flight of the second half of the menu and none of it stood out to me. Fur coat was the better of the darker beers. Seems like their light beers are quite popular so I hope you'll enjoy that. There's no food besides Pleasant House's pizza, which is absolutely delicious, though a bit pricey. It closes at 9pm.
