Half Acre was our final stop on a little brewery tour through the northern neighborhoods of Chicago! Extra points for their private parking lot, which felt pretty exclusive in this part of town! The space itself is open and airy, with plenty of space to grab a table or belly up the bar. Simple, modern finishes, accented with ceiling-stringed lights made this spot a fun place to chill and play a board game. We ordered from the bar, and were given recommendations that held up to our expectations! Nice diversity of beer available, which we appreciated after going to a few spots that only focused on one kind of beer. We like to visit various breweries when traveling, and a nice thing about Half Acre is that they also have good. The weather was still quite chilly, so the large patio was not yet open for the season. We enjoyed a sampler & had some cheese curds (very good!) and the pimento cheese with chips (very large serving for sharing). The pimento cheese was disappointing, usually they have visible shredded cheese; this one didn't. A lot of the flavoring seemed to come from paprika. Fantastic brewery located in the Lincoln Square area. The staff is always super friendly and it's a great opportunity to try their new brews on tap. They have a tap room and beer garden along with a nice food menu. My go to is usually the cheese curds paired with the Waybird IPA. They do have a parking lot and if it's full, there is street parking available. The gift shop has a nice selection of merch and beers you can bring home. I walked into Half Acre and I had NO idea this place was as gigantic as it is. And then I went out back and realized they have parking AND an enormous patio, too! I was here when the weather was a bit warmer, so I opted for a watermelon beer that I was told tastes like a jolly rancher. Can confirm that was accurate - but in a good way! I liked it. My lovely wife and I have been fans of Half Acre's beers (Daisy Cutter and Bodem) for years, so we were pumped to tag along with our drinking friends recently to visit Half Acre Beer for the very first time recently. Our party of six were seated on the outside beer garden despite the coolish Saturday temps, but it was a joy to be there. I tried the Kellerbier and thought it was AOK (I could see my love enjoyed her Bodem more than I did my selection). Interestingly, they feature a bunch of Filipino items on the food menu, and that makes sense since the chef used to be at Isla Pilipina. We all ordered the lumpia shanghai, and they are as delicious and delicate as they were at the "old" restaurant. Love this place. We live in the area and walk here often after discovering it this summer. The beers there are on point with great variety. The food especially the burgers and fries are really solid. They have Filipino/asian influenced menu items too which have all been good so far. We tried the summer salad recently and also very tasty. The patio is our favorite part of half acre. The staff is always super cool and really friendly. We come in with a dog and/or baby and they have always been extremely accommodating and really nice. One brewery that I had sadly never been to in Chicago, even though it is one of the OGs, is Half Acre. This trip I changed that. I usually stay in the downtown area, or up to the Ravenswood neighborhood, but the little bit farther north trip to Half Acre is worth it. Everything is executed as it should be, showcasing the ingredients and flavors while never being too much. I enjoyed a burger as well while here - which, I can gladly say is DYNAMITE. Let's start with the Burger. They use a Dry Aged Beef Patty topped with Cheddar Cheese, White Onion, Black Garlic Aioli, Pickles, all on a House Made Sesame Seed Milk Bun. The burger was perfectly cooked, juicy AF. The cheese was fatty and gooey with acid from the pickles, tart bite of onion, and lusciousness of the aioli that I had to dip the PERFECTLY fried fries into. Take notes, this is how you do a burger. Now let's get to the beers in the flight. Tuna: An Extra Pale Ale that is medium bodied with notes of tropical fruit, pine, and grapefruit. There is also a floralness that I can't put my finger on. On & On: Part 4: A Double Barrel Aged Imperial Stout brewed in collaboration with Revolution Brewing. They used Elijah Craig 18 Year Bourbon Barrels and a mix of Willet 6 & 9 Barrels. Huge barrel character with oak, vanilla, and molasses. Bitter roast and semi sweet chocolate with minor notes of raisin. Riptide Vallejo: A Double IPA that is a doubled version of one of their crowd favorites, Vallejo. Notes of Pine Needles fresh off the tree combined with white stone fruit. Early Signs of Life: A straight up American Pale that is grapefruit, resin, and pine. Another classic representation of a hoppy beer. _____ read more

One of my favorite breweries of all time. Definitely in my top 5 out of the country. To start, the brewery itself is super cool. You can see all the fermentation vessels they use to make beer which adds to the ambiance. The outside area is one of my favorite places to sit. The food is fantastic. Half Acre has easily become my favorite large scale, craft brewery in the city, an excellent hang whether you're inside at the bar or under the trellis, or outside in the warmer months enjoying their fantastic patio. You know HA for their year round beers like Daisy Cutter and Bodem, but they have also been making some of the best high gravity beers in the country for the past several years now. Benthic, their barrel-aged coffee and coconut stout, is about as good as it gets, and its variants have eclipsed that much larger national craft brewery a few miles south. What's great about Half Acre is that, while there's always the traditional stuff on tap, there's also always something special as well, ranging from some barrel-aged goodness, to wild fermented ales, to collaborations with some of the best breweries in the country. And while the food has always been solid, lately they've been teaming up with other great restaurants and chefs in the city, quickly making the taproom a must-visit spot at least once a month. Always great stuff to enjoy. Always a great hang and friendly staff. Checked out yet another brewery. Half Acre is one of the better known of Chicago's craft breweries and its beers can be found in many bars around here. It's also easy to find these in beer and liquor stores. Even so, it's great to get to the actual taproom and try stuff you can't get anywhere else. The place isn't that big but they have a big selection on tap and the prices are good. Awhile ago we came here and tried a few newer beers and classics. It has a big selection for how small this place is. There's a pretty good variety. It's about $7 a pint. They have fruity, hoppy, and more on tap. Daisy Cutter is the apparent favorite. This has a hoppy but fresh taste. For those who like this one, it's very easy to find everywhere. Tome is another good one. It's a hazy pale ale. This has a guava sweetness with a subtle cedar taste. Here they don't have any food. They apparently used to but there wasn't any food menu. Has to be one of the best craft breweries. It's on Balmoral close to Spiteful, yet another one. Caroline and Adia served our group and they treated us like family. They have a huge outdoor space that has a family vibe. Beyond the great craft beers, they offer an incredible assortment of unique sodas and non-alcoholic beers. The Horchata Root Beer was exceptional. Also lots of vegan options that were equally tasty. Great beer here! If you're looking for a solid west coast IPA, delicious thicc stouts, or even just a coffee and some chill vibes half acre is your spot. I haven't had a bad beer here yet - some have been just ok but they consistently put out some of the best stouts in Chicagoland, and their dedication to push out great, normal IPAs that are flagship staples (Tome, Daisy cutter) has turned them into one of the biggest breweries in the city. Food here is solid - traditional no frills burgers and fries, cheese curds and the like. Coffee from Dark Matter always good especially when you're looking for that different buzz. I came to Chicago to visit with friends! Today they worked so I was on my own exploring. I thought this place was gonna be all "tots and chicken strips" boy was I wrong The menu has Filipino dishes, I said ok let me try (my husband of 10 years is Filipino) it can't be that bad can it. Really nice spacious spot. We went here for a month lymarket music event called Sauced that rotates around the city. The was plenty of beer on tap for people to try. The full brewing process is on display too. You can smell the aromatics. Great event space multiple rooms and great service. This event a lot of small craft vendors and food trucks outside. The space is more than accommodating. The only drawback is it's a bit ways from public transportation. So if that's your method. I'd be prepared for a ten minute walk or a Uber. More brewery fun in Chicago. Generally I have very rewarding experiences trying out breweries in this very fine city and Half Acre is no exception to this. Time and opportunity only allowed Steve and myself to try one of their beers but it was an enjoyable one. We got the Navaja, a double IPA which was very refreshing! This IPA had boozy, sweet and hoppy aspects to it which we both enjoyed. For us we really like our IPA'S during the warmer months and that's when we enjoyed this beer. We ventured down to Chicago to explore some breweries in the area. Half Acre was our first stop. We got there around noon and there was plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. The space was really cool and the staff was very friendly. We just got beers and an appetizer (veggie tempura). Everything was really good! While the food menu was kind of limited, the food other people were getting looked good! In terms of beers, they had about 10-15 specialty beers that you could only get the brewery. We've been here several times. The food and beer is always excellent. This last visit there were mostly IPAs. We opted for the Harbinger Brown Ale and the Camero Nitro Chocolate Milk Stout. This place is a gem, main-stay in the Chicago craft beer world and all around great choice. Local friends brought me here when visiting, on a Sunday afternoon. We picked a booth table inside, since it was getting just a little too toasty for us outside and the most shaded tables were already claimed. The indoor space is cozy and calm and a bit whimsical. The wife and I stopped here on our way home after a walk. On a warm day, the beer here hit the spot. We ordered multiple different beers and liked the Fader best. We also tried uptide, crown hut and goneaway, all of which were good. Our server was well trained/knowledgeable about the beer selection and helpful in making suggestions. We ended up ordering vegetarian nachos, which were good. I went back here another day to meet some friends and drank hallow. A friend ordered nitro original reaper, which he liked. I'm not much of a dark beer drinker so did not taste it. The Daisy Cutter Mussels I ordered were not as good as the nachos that I ordered during my first visit. I would call them a bit bland and overcooked. However, I consider that a minor complaint and will be back here. read more

Burgers, chicken sandwich, some sort of pasta and a veggie burger. (I was. Hoping for a salad). When we asked about the "food menu" I felt like we were the bad guys for asking about an old girl friend. We ordered some beers, they were brought to the table, when the beers were 1/2 full someone checked in on us, but then we sat with empty glasses for a good 10 minutes. One of the best breweries in the city, well known for the hopped beers and rich stouts. If you're planning on going, definitely good to snag a reservation. First before I talk about the beer, they also serve food and coffee. I haven't had much from their menu aside from the fries, but that alone has always been a spectacular accompaniment to the beer. Their espresso is very well made and they have the nicest ceramic ware for it. Onto the beer! Most of the beers are hopped, so it's easy to find a nice IPA. If you want to go classic, always try the Daisy Cutter, but you can also never go wrong with any of their flagships. I've really liked their recent Space IPA, so I hope that gets folded into the regular distribution. Aside from their hopped beers, they always produce solid stouts. Every winter, they're known for their Benthic series, which is a very rich, coconut barrel-aged imperial stout. They also always do variations of the OG Benthic like Vanilla, XTRA Duble (more barrel-aged), and Rum coconut - which were a few of the 2021 variations. They are expensive beers for 12-ounce cans, but you only really need 12 ounces at a time at most. They are highly sought after, so make sure you get in on that lottery right as it comes on. Throughout the year, they also make the Bear Hugs series and occasional one-offs like VIM, which are more widely available. But, the best surprise that it is only exclusive to the Balmoral restaurant is their wild ale series. They have started exclusively serving and distributing wild ales from the Balmoral cafe and they are excellently made. A must-try if you like this type of beer and are stopping in at this location. Food and beer aside, they have an awesome back patio area and a nice event space if you're looking to host big groups! read more
