Re-Revised 5/10/08 Do you remember your first love and how after all the new-ness of it all wore off you discovered the awful truths? Well it's not quite that bad but I would definitely stick with tried and trues at this g-spoon and not wander too far away from what you know to work (ho-nem-mwot-ho-nai is a very useful chinese saying = good is good enough). For me I would skip the Special Patty Melt (not so special and remember the "where's the beef?" commercial? yep), country fried steak (why don't more g-spoons see the need for actual steak in a dish with it in the title?) and what happened to gyros on the breakfast menu? down to three stars I'm afraid. Revised 12/14/07 Well I've made it back to George's and it's still going to be my go to place in Arvada but I had to take back a star. I tried the Country Fried (Chicken Fried) Steak and sadly it was mystery meat instead of beef put through a tenderizer/chopper. My daughter had a Denver omelette which was nice and fluffy. My only problem was the hash browns this time weren't crispy. I'm sure if you asked for them crispy or "well" they'd do them that way gladly for you but for me a five star greasy spoon would automatically serve them that way every time without asking. The waitresses are very nice, but our waitress spaced our toast and then margerined my "dry" toast, not a biggie and they were slammed so it was alright. Like I said this is still the go to place for me but there are better G-Spoon's. Gyros sandwich, omelettes, breakfast burritos, even steak and eggs are "good enough". Original review: Let's see, this was an el Pollo Loco, then it was a Quizno's, hmm, I think there was another shop or two in this space before too. But I don't recall. George's sign never drew my attention but the increasing number of cars in the lot did (that and Harmony O's review. Thanks). Now finally, there is a great greasy spoon (said lovingly) in Arvada to take the place in our hearts (and stomaches of course) of the old Ralston Road cafe. The portions aren't gargantuan but they're big and tasty too. Tried the Gyros sandwich with rings, steak and egg breakfast (good hash browns), and the chicken pita w/fries so far. The gyros are pretty terrible - old meat and crumbly pita. Fried mushrooms were decent and the cheese sticks would have been as well if half of them hadn't lost all their cheese. We did take out because they are close, but never again. read more

I am a transplanted girl from Alabama; been here about four months. While it is very cold to me, I LOVE it! I work across the street from Georges, and I was missing a taste from home. Although grits are not on their menu, they are always happy to make them for me, with a smile. There is no better way for me to warm up than a big bowl of grits, some butter, and salt and pepper! Their other food is awesome as well, especially their biscuits and gravy, and, believe me, I KNOW BISCUITS AND GRAVY!!!! 02/07/08 Thought I'd add on...Georges just keeps getting better and better. We stumbled upon George's on a Saturday afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised. Let me tell you they have a broad range of food here, Greek, Mexican and regular diner fare. It seemed clean, the waitstaff was nice, the food was tasty and it was an overall good experience! It is very much what you would expect from a diner type place and what you deserve as well. I come here on occasion when my boyfriend and overall it's just not that great. I realize this is your basic run of the mill neighborhood diner with crap food and cheap prices. This is so close to us so we always end up coming here when we can't agree on anything. They ALWAYS have a line..which is odd because they just aren't outstanding. Bland and generally lacking spice and flavor, I have come to notice that the majority of who is coming here are older and sorts.. what is it with old people that like bland boring food? The service is generally good but realistically , I can't see myself going out of my way to come here . read more

I love a good gyro, and I figured that with the Greek vibe of this place they'd have a good one. Unfortunately, I was let down. It seems like too many places that offer gyros go for the 'loaf' style of meat instead of the only way to have it, right off the big meat cone rotisserie. Aside from the underwhelming gyro, the service was very good, and the prices were reasonable. The other people in my party mentioned that their food was too bland. I've been here twice. The first time was very good, the second time, not so much. The food is always the same which is normally a good thing, but again my first visit made a much more positive impression. Old school diner which is really my style, but for some reason George's just doesn't do it for me I guess. Good service, good food but unless I get invited, I probably won't be back. Stopped in for the first time this week with my wife, adult daughter and 15yoa grand-daughter for breakfast. I was the first to arrive and I was greeted and seated quickly. Service was fast and very attentive. I had the Virginia ham and eggs breakfast, my wife had a Denver skillet, daughter a breakfast burrito smothered in green chili, grand-daughter had a Belgium waffle. We all enjoyed our meals very much and found the food to be quite good. The restaurant is clean and well maintained. We will "put this on the list" to return! Highly recommend. read more

I truly adore this place. It's a great place to go for a greasy breakfast or lunch. The owner is usually right at the front greeting and welcoming everyone who comes in. My mom had recommended this place, but unfortunately I can't seem to find a single reason why. The entire staff encountered was less than inviting or friendly (except the hostess, who was wonderful). The food was super dismal. I ordered a monte cristo (French toast ham and cheese melt) came with turkey and the French toast was essentially just egg. George's is a great little diner in Arvada, CO. I've only ever been for breakfast, and only ever ordered the breakfast burrito (with regular salsa instead of the green salsa,) but that doesn't mean I've never sampled off of my neighbor's plate! Here, you get what you pay for. The prices are fantastic, which means you're not going to be getting served your food on a silver platter, nor are you guaranteed perfectly fast service or fancy tables. However, this place has charm and the food is tasty. You can't beat that when you're looking for a cheap breakfast! While the food has usually been good (Stuck on the Gyro sandwiches) the place is so popular you may have to wait an hour for your food. The wait staff takes all the guff for the lack of an up-front statement, "It's about an hour wait." Be honest with the clients and they will either stay or leave but don't lead them to believe they'll be in in less than 20 minutes if it is truly an hour wait. Give them the choice and let them make the decision. George's will do in a pinch if you have a yearn for a Greek Salad and don't want to get out of your sweatpants. I do love the drive through option. My only complaint on the salad, which is the only thing I've had there, is that their chicken reminds me of the chicken I'd cook myself when I was in college because I didn't know any better and didn't realize chicken could taste like something. It's incredibly dry and lacking in soul. This place doesn't hold a candle to Pete's Greek, salad wise, but again in desperation it tides me over. read more

Only eaten there twice, but both times the food was VERY good. My waitress was very friendly, service was quick. What I really like about the place is the prices are quite reasonable, and both times I ordered sandwiches that came with fries which were not at all greasy,they were perfectly crispy and not salty at all. They seem to use good quality ingredients, not everything frozen and processed like some family restaurants. The inside is clean which is always important. Having experienced BOTH the lunch and dinner gyros, I have nothing but the highest praise for this fantastic dish. The lamb is wonderful, the pita is excellent and the tzatziki sauce is perfect. You MUST have a huge appetite to finish the dinner gyro - good for a bit to take home. I've had the pleasure of enjoying their delightful breakfasts, as well and am equally as impressed with their reasonably priced truly good home cooking. I have to downgrade my review of past. Georges was a exceptional mom & pop place to eat.The clientele is mostly over 60 as am I. They serve a pretty good meal for a fair price but I have noticed that every time I return there is a little little less than there was before. The Ruben sandwich this last time was down to two very thin pieces of corn beef. The pickle on my plate was actually thicker than the meat and they were sliced pickles. I am undecided on weather I will return. They also offer a senior discount, I am totally white haired and in my late 60's but there was no discount on my check . The last time I asked for the senior discount, because it was not on the check, it took the cashier most of 20 minutes to figure it out. Not worth my time. read more

First time coming here. Wow. Arrived at 12:30 on a weekday and was seated right away. Water came right as we were seated and next menus. The waitress was super friendly and took our order when she felt like we were ready. No rush. They have an extensive menu. Breakfast all day. We ordered the Country Omelets smothered in green chile. You have a choice of smothering with country white gravy or green chile. It comes with hashbrowns and a choice of toast or tortilla. We got the white toast. We also orderd a side of bacon and a double stack of pancakes to share. The pancakes are as big as a dinner plate. Arrives with hot syrup and real butter. The side of bacon has 3 big strips..perfectly crispy and chewy. Everything was perfect. Hashbrowns brown and crunchy. Omelet perfect..full of sausage and bacon. The pancakes were perfect. They offer a daily senior discount of 10% off and a have a whole menu dedicated to this. They also have a drive thru! Call ahead. read more

This place was highly recommended on a neighborhood Facebook page and i can't figure out why. I don't consider the prices cheap and the food was blah to gross. I ordered a Belgium waffle, scrambled eggs, and link sausage. The waffle was nice but the syrup wasn't real maple syrup. The scrambled eggs were flat as paper. And the sausage was just gross and cheap. A meal of this caliber should have been 4.99. Will not go back. I'll spend 3 extra dollars at First Watch for food I enjoy. read more

Greek restaurant Spanish cooks serving American , Mexican, Italian and Greek food. alot like petes cafe's only the food here is catered to the elderly..I ordered the chicken parm and lasagna. it was difficult to distinguish what i revived. the entire plate was covered in stewed tomatoes not spaghetti sauce or meat sauce just caned stewed tomatoes. i scraped the tomatoes off to see the lasagna and was surprised to see only boiled noodles and ricotta cheese smothered in stewed tomatoes. No meat sauce no meat no mozzarella cheese not even baked.....Then grudgingly i scraped the tomatoes off of the chicken parm. Only to reveal a boiled chicken Brest with a sandwich slice of cheese smothered in stewed tomatoes. no bedded cutlet no sauce not fried or pan seared just a boiled chicken Brest.. WOW...also this place is full of elderly folks including the staff and the restaurant is falling apart. the rest rooms stink and are poorly maintained the day we were there they had 3 leaks from the roof and 4 buckets catching water in the isles and yes the customers were getting discussing dirty greasy water from 20 year old sealing tiles on them and the staff just acted like it was no big deal. Went there yesterday for lunch. Ordered the Monte Cristo and was very disappointed! It was a cheese and meat sandwich between 2 slices of french toast with 2 packets of jelly on the side. A real Monte Cristo is dipped in batter and deep-fried with raspberry jam (not packets) on the side. Would suggest they remove it from the menu! Service was quick and friendly. However, waitress didn't come back for quite some time after bringing our food. My daughter ordered the Pancake Sandwich and said it was "blah" and didn't even eat half of it.
