Dr. korin has been our vet for 3 years and we cannot recommend him enough! He is kind, responsive and truly cares about the animals. If you live in NYC, his prices are not that much more than what the fancy VC-backed vet offices charge (eg Small Door), and it's a much more comfortable experience for all involved (humans and cats), so it's a no brainer. Dr. Korin is one terrific vet, and we've been dealing with vets for decades. When he first came to visit us, we already had a sick cat, an old cat, but a lovely cat named Clio. Dr. Korin coached us through the hardest part of a cat's life, the end, but first he kept her healthy for five years. He listened to us when we said, "not too much medication and no operations." Finally, we even said "no more blood tests," and that was fine. He'd come to check Clio a couple of times a year (very reasonable prices, especially considering that he was coming to us, and we didn't have to take Clio out). Finally Clio suddenly went into decline and on a Sunday morning in November, Dr. Korin came on an emergency call and put Clio to sleep. Twenty years old! Thanks, George!! read more

What a comfort to have Dr. Korin come to our apartment when the time came to put down our 15 year old lab. He asked us about her condition and why we decided it was time, gave her an exam and worked gently and methodically right there on our livingroom floor. He allowed us all the time we needed to say goodbye and explained everything as he went along. It was such a relief to be able to find Dr. Korin to ease our girl's passing right at home. I don't know why there are not more testimonials to Dr. Korin and his house call vet service. He is the most compassionate and wonderful vet I have ever known. Simply the fact that he comes to your home is a testimony to how much he cares. Anyone who has ever had to take their pet to the vet knows how traumatic this can be. Especially for older animals, it seems more and more cruel to put them through that trauma when they are already sick. Dr. Korin's house call service allows you to diagnose and treat your pet in the comfort of their own home. When necessary, he will direct you to take them in for treatment, but he can do a lot at home, including blood tests. And when it comes time to relieve your pet of pain or suffering, I don't know why anyone would want to do anything other than have them stay at home. I have said good b'ye to 2 kitties at home, and I could never imagine it without Dr. Korin's service. read more

AN ABOMINATION. Dr, Korin made a house call in March to see my two cats. He gave them both a good bill of health and told me that Leroy, my 7-year-old orange tabby needed a tooth pulled. I said fine, whatever he needs. He goes in for a tooth pull on 3/18 at the Long Island City Vet Center. Next thing I know, I get a call that Leroy went into "cardiac arrest" was out for five minutes but he was brought back. With the butchers over at Long Island City Vets, they released Leroy to me the next morning and he was brain damaged. They had nothing to say to me other than to monitor him. Before i was allowed to take my sick cat home, i was given a bill of $1460 and asked to pay in full. All i wanted to do was get my boy home. They took my money. I brought Leroy home and he went from bad to worse. I had to call Dr. Korin to come and look at him. Of course, he billed me for that visit on top of the $1460 i gave the vet center, of which he gets a cut. The next 72 hours were hell. Unfortunately, my 12-year-old daughter had to witness Leroy having seizures that went on for hours. He suffered so badly, it broke our hearts and we had to call Dr. Korin back for a euthanasia. He left a bill for that as well. Thankfully, I have returned to my original vet, Dr. Leiman at Northside Veterinary Center in Brooklyn. I wish i had never left them in the first place. We are still grieving over the loss of our beloved, Leroy. And i am suing the Long Island City Vet Center for the $1460 they took from me, before i got my boy home and ultimately, had to say goodbye to him. This was an outrage, disgusting and totally unprofessional. If you love your furry family members as much as we do, I would implore you to seek out other vets and never to use the services of George Korin or the Long Island City Vet Center. When my beloved cat was dying of stomach lymphoma, I was given Dr. Korin's number as one of the few NYC vets with a partially home visit practice. He suggested interventions that allowed us to extend her "good time" without pushing aggressive treatments we knew were no longer appropriate for her, treated her and us with respect and compassion, with the great advantage of our not having to take her out on painful and frightening clinic visits. read more

I have a conflicting opinions about Dr. Korin. I agree with other reviewers in that he was wonderful and compassionate when he put 2 of my all time favorite pets to sleep at home. I would highly recommend him for that and yes, would never take any pets to a cold vet's office for their passing after doing it this way. I was very grateful for his sensitivity and for this service. So please use him for this - truly. However, when I went to him for my 8 year old cat's chronic respiratory issues, complicated with an ear infection and a runny eye - I was greatly disappointed in the service he gave us. I actually went to him because I knew that he worked with a vet out in Speonk, L.I. who has the only Masters in Veterinary Herbology in the U.S. (Dr. Wen - he's Chinese and studied in China for 2 years for this.) While my cat has had these issues since I got him at 6 months of age at a pet shop (never do that, but couldn't resist!), and another vet was unable to help (they call it colloquially "kennel cough") - I understood Dr. Korin to be someone who could use both the Eastern/Herbology approach with more westernized medicine. As it turned out, I got the worst of westernized medicine. He met my cat at home and said it may be more complicated than it looked. He said there may be blockages in his nasal passages or even a tumor in there. And he would need to clean out the nasal passages. And he had to x-ray not only the nasal passages but also the chest to see if something was up with his cough. Warning bells should have gone off - and if it were for my own treatment, they would have. I dumbly just went along with everything he suggested, which meant testing for apparently every possible thing in the medical books that could possibly be related to ear, eyes and chest. Sound familiar? So I took my cat in for the appt. at a vet's office where he could do the procedures (requiring anesthesia, etc.). At that time, it totally surprised me when he said the estimate would be $750 because unexpectedly it now looked like he needed to extract a bad tooth. I was shocked, but since I had taken a long and expensive cab ride to the place, and I wanted to get Dr. Wen's consultation through Dr. Korin, I went along with it. Wow. I went to pick up my cat in the evening and suddenly - for a cat that was uncomfortable but not in any life-threatening situation - the bill had jumped to $1,700!! This was after the $300 for him to visit at home. I was floored. They said I could pay half then and the other half later. Big deal. I confronted Dr. Korin later about it because he was not there when I picked up my pet. He wouldn't reduce the fee. Later, when paying the rest of the bill I complained to the office and they spoke with him and eventually he knocked off $300. But he had to come to my house to give my cat another antibiotic shot and that was $300 (approx. - the house visits are super expensive.) So I still paid over $2k in spite of the small reduction and in the end - oh, surprise surprise, he didn't find anything with all the procedures. I think the ONLY thing that helped, besides some ear medicine and the tooth extraction, was the strong antibiotic. And after 2 shots of the antibiotic - and a few months later - my cat is almost back to where he was originally. The upshot? I am taking all my 3 cats out to Dr. Wen on Long Island - which is a lot of work when you live in Manhattan and have to rent a car and drive yourself with them. But I hope his herbal remedies will help with all 3 of their chronic conditions (respiratory issues, excessive licking of fur, and bloody stools - all of which a few vets have not even be able to make any headway with.) And get this - I asked for the files to be sent to another vet and either they just sent part of them (even with repeated requests because they said Dr. Korin had to authorize the release, but couldn't because he was on vacation) - or he had made bad records. With all that money spent, my "regular" vet said there was no record of x-rays or what kind of medication was given and a couple of other things that were supposedly done, but weren't in the records. Did he do them? Who knows So no - I will never go to Dr. Korin for anything other than house call euthanasia. I am grateful for that, however. One more thing - after all this expense - 6 months after the $2k day, as I call it, I got a note from Dr. Korin. "Oh, he's checking up on my cat," I thought. Wrong. It was, I am not kidding, a bill for $68 for something he "forgot" to bill me for. Not only was he unaware of how outrageous that is, he should have been too ashamed to send it under the circumstances. My feeling is, with some things Dr. Korin doesn't have a clue. (Didn't expect this to be so long. I guess you can see how it's affected me.) read more
