AMAZING VETS HERE!!!!!!! I am so grateful for this place! I came in today for the first time because my dog wasn't feeling herself and the nurses and doctors were so kind and welcoming. They listened to my concerns and gave her an initial exam. They quickly found that she had an extremely high temperature and urged me to take her to the hospital. I burst down into tears because my other dog passed away last year and I was just very scared. They were so kind seeing me in that state LOL and called a hospital near by to make sure they'd be able to take my dog in. It was clear they weren't just after money and genuinely care about the animals there. Although my dog ended up being okay, I'm glad the vet recommended me to take her to the hospital. Updating my review. GVC cared for our foster cat back in 2022 and is the primary vet for our cat we adopted in 2023. GVC and Dr. Stein are the absolute best - scheduling is easy, costs are fair, and Dr. Stein's passion for his patients and their well-being is apparent in every interaction. I recommended so many people here and I feel like a fool! Look elsewhere because now that they are established and busy, they don't care about their original clients. I have been loyal to this practice since they opened. Today my dog woke up with a UTI and they refused to help. They were unable to fit her in and told me she can't be seen until Thursday. I said it's Tuesday and the poor dog is whimpering and peeing blood. Then they said I could come in as a walk-in and wait until she can be seen but they don't know how long that will be and I'll have to pay an "extra $100 for the walk-in". I literally have a newborn baby and a sick dog. It's so money hungry. I'm so upset that I'm in literal tears. When I said my dog really needs to be seen today I was told "then find another vet". So , we wake up this morning and our youngest baby (Goldie) cannot walk and is trembling. We're kind of in a state of panic , being a holiday weekend and not knowing if we'd be able to find someone to see her . Thankfully I remembered that a new Veterinarian had opened recently on McGuiness Blvd . I had stopped in about 1 week ago and met Dr. Stein's wife and partner , Brittany. Everything was low key , friendly and professional. Fast forward to today , they were able to accommodate us on short notice. Dr. Stein was great , he was very thorough, precise and reassuring. He came up with most likely Goldie pulled a muscle and would be ok . Dr. Stein gave us a treatment plan , took care of an anal gland issue and the prescriptions. The visit was reasonable, very productive and we've found a family vet for Goldie. I've never had such a great vet experience. GVC has convenient appointments that I don't need to book half a month in advance, almost no wait time when I get there, and fair consult prices (the labs are expensive no matter where I go). Apart from that, our Vet was so helpful in explaining conditions and treatment plan. Follow-up is super flexible either over email or phone. The techs, the reception, are all great too! The staff here are super! They were very attentive, we were seen right on time and the exam and vaccinations went smoothly. Dr Austin patiently went through a lot of the steps of having a new puppy without being rigid or preachy. He was very straightforward about what my puppy would probably need as far as vaccines based our lifestyle in the city but there was no upsell. Overall this was a great visit. Had a horrible experience with Dr. Stein. I've taken my dog to his clinic since we moved to the neighborhood and he was great until he wasn't. He got very defensive when I called to make an appointment for a dental procedure to go over the medication state & status of my dog, as he has a history of arthritis and a knee surgery in the recent past. The receptionist told me she will make note of it, and if anything should be notified they would give me a call back. Not sure if there was a miscommunication but when Dr. Stein called, he was very defensive asking 'why' I called him and asked what the problem was. I was confused to what he was referring to as I never requested a call back -- thought he could be asking about the tooth fracture, but the conversation lead to why was I putting my dog on Prozac (my dog is reactive, and it was his clinic that put my dog on it for the first time). He went on and said that this is my dog(?) and that he has never forced me to to put my dog on Prozac? The conversation should've been about the dental procedure, not about Prozac as it wasn't the main focus what so ever. I'm not sure why he called in such a toxic mannerism making me feel extremely uncomfortable, which lead me to believe that he would blame his client/patients for any future results and I could not trust his service moving forward. Dr. Stein was extremely empathetic when I first brought my dog in when he tore his ACL, but after this phone call and I saw a side of him that I would never trust my dog with. I hate that I would no longer be returning to his clinic as his staff were extremely kind and loving. read more

First and foremost, the patient portal website is invaluable. This is the first vet office that I have been to that employs one and I have found it very useful. Overbooking appointments is not something that I have noticed at this office, which is generally a big problem that I have found in other offices. The office itself is nicely furnished and the staff are accommodating and friendly. Dr. Stein has an amiable demeanor and always gives my dog the proper attention. My dog has been through a lot of complicated stuff and rather than driving to the excellent Animal Medical Center in Manhattan every time, I wanted a local vet.
