When ordering my Reuben, they were out of corned beef and asked if I'd like it with pastrami...I agreed. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of their pastrami and would not order again. The chili was not very good either....its more of a hot dog topping chili rather than a stand-alone. The store is very cute with all kinds of stuff to look at while waiting. I normally love coming in this store and look around. The first thing I noticed is how high their prices have gotten. The person at the counter was talking to some guys who ordered beers. I walked up and she asked if I wanted to order. I told her I was thinking about it. She said okay and went back to talking with the guys. Friendly but not welcoming if that makes sense. I told her I was ready. She took my order. I decided to order a scoop of ice cream, only offered in a cup, cost $6 and a tri tip sandwich with no sides, $18. Not a ton of meat but it was pretty good. $18 worth, not so much. Their sandwich prices has gone up in the last few years by at least 50%. I know inflation has hit everyone but just like Tahoe, their high prices seem to be targeted to visitors/tourist, making some locals probably reconsider going somewhere in Minden, Gardnerville or even Carson to eat where prices are at least a few dollars less for each person which includes a side. This can make a difference when you have more than yourself to feed. Still, if you are a tourist and would like to stroll around Genoa, at least they can make up their own mind to eat here. Again, I'm sure the food is really good but the prices here will keep at least me and my family away. They do have a nice selection of draft beers if you want a cold drink. A funky, funny little place that has something for everyone. I decided to make a detour through Genoa on my way home. It was lunch time and I was feeling peaked. After parking at the Mormon Station State park, I wandered over to check out the Genoa Country Store and see what the deli had to offer. They had a nice variety of sandwiches either their combos or a make your own. I decided on the Turkey with Provolone and Pesto Panini on sourdough. It comes with a dill pickle. Sides and drinks are extra. It was pretty good and very generously sized. They have seating both inside and outside. I opted to eat out at one of the tables under the trees. My food was brought to me. The store is not only a deli, but a bar with beer, wine and cocktails, a general store with gifts, tchotchkes, snacks, t-shirts, jewelry, and other paraphernalia. They also carry locally produced ice cream. I showed restraint and passed on that, but it would be a great to stop back again for something cool and creamy. Great little spot. Came in to grab a couple of non alcoholic drinks to quench our thirst and to our surprise, we walked into a bar/convenience store hybrid! They had $3 bloody Mary's at 6:30 pm on a Monday! Of course I had to try it. The mix was zing zang with the bartenders own personalized touch. The bartender who also happened to be the cashier and the owner of the store, was very nice and informative on the towns events. Will definitely be back to try the food and grab some more drinks! We stayed at nearby resort and had a walk to the town of Genoa. The guide stopped by this Genoa Country Store for an ice cream. We asked whether she could put the two scoop ice cream in two different cups. She did but didn't tell us the cashier was going to charge us two dollars for the extra cup. We thought two scoops on one cup would be too tall and asked for another cup. She insisted to charge us that two extra dollars for the extra cup. If we were told in the first place, we probably wouldn't do it. Anyway, it's not a very friendly way to treat an out of town tourist. Not very friendly store. Sorry to say that. Whoh! This place is amazing. How great is it? You can get your cup of coffee to any special alcoholic drinks from the bar. The cofeee was tasty and you could refill your soda drink. There is also a gift boutique which has everything you will want, including unique jewelries. I was totally surprised that I found such a special deli sandwich and a locally made ice cream. Oh boy, I was on the moon with my generous one scoop of the delicious butter pecan. I also got to taste the strawberry flavor which was also smoking yummy! I would have given this place a gold five star but I could not as there is a room for improvement. The service is very slow as there is one person who was doing everything! Cynthia is a TRUE people person listen to her customer request and offers the menu choices you would never believe and OMG the next day the meal still has the favor of the first day. I usually manage to wander in here when I come to Genoa with Gayle. It has an interesting and funky feel as a market, deli, and even a bar. It also has a nice little outdoor seating area. This area is also offers a welcome rest (and shade) during Candy Dance. Newspapers are also available here. The sandwiches that I have ordered here from the deli have been surprisingly tasty and fresh. I too wouldn't recommend a special trip, but it doesn't get much better than a nice sandwich and a beer either here or across the street at the Genoa Bar on a nice day in this very charming town. read more

Thought about eating breakfast too, especially after hearing another patron express how much he enjoyed his breakfast burrito, but my husband wanted to check out Harriet's breakfast cafe down the road. We did end up coming back for lunch though and both ordered sandwiches. The guys working were friendly on both trips. The lunch sandwich was custom made to my liking, with toasted sourdough slices and cheese & all the veggies they had. They also offered spicy mustard when I said I love mustard. It was very good! Casey had ham and cheese on sourdough. The sandwiches came with a pickle slice and were just under $10 each. The Country Store has been my lifesaver as a new resident to town. For 2 Wednesday's in a row I've been blessed with the most delicious dinners. More importantly are the staff and owners that make you feel so welcome and accepted. Tonight's taco feast was superb. Next week is ribs. I'm hooked. I have a feeling this country store is a little more touristy than it would have been back in the day (lots of souvenirs for purchase), but otherwise, it is a great stop for travel size toiletries, basic food items (the produce was a bit shriveled), snacks, or coffee or an ice cream cone. They serve locally produced ice cream. I have to say I was impressed with the mint chocolate chip. We didn't try the food counter, but it looks like they have some lunch offerings if you're hungry for something more than ice cream. The clerks were friendly, and the atmosphere was nice. I'm rating this place on the breakfast, not the merchandise. The merchandise is actually cutesy, fun, and somewhat useful for being in a small little town. The breakfast is microwaved eggs scrambled like they were made from a liquid version with no flavor and super hard bacon. I couldn't tell if the home fries were old or frozen because it seemed they were microwaved too. Given the small location I was expecting a really good, greasy spoon home cooked meal. Had the chance to visit the town of Genoa the other day, the oldest settlement in Nevada. Loved this place from the get go. It has such a historic feel combined with a small town charm. Anyways, parked right outside Genoa Country Store to get some Ice Cream and take a walk around town. We only bought ice cream and sherbert from here but, it was really good. Not sure if they make it themselves or what but, it definitely didn't taste like some big generic brand. I think just being in a town like this and the old fashioned feel of the building and store we were in, as well as the indoor/outdoor seating added to our experience. We actually spoke a little with the 3 employees who were working, about the town and the store etc. and they were all very friendly and so easy to talk to and Ross even let us get a pic of him behind the counter. Thank you guys! Oh, and check out The Dancing Deer located right next door and I believe the same owner of the Country Store. Cool knick knacks and my bro even purchased a cool cowboy hat! Cheeee hoooooo! Hawaiian Cowboy! We only had the ice cream and sherbert and the service was excellent. I don't have any reason not to give them a 5 star rating. We love this little treasure for our "go to" lunch stop! Great sandwiches (gluten free bread), potato salad, dill pickle Kettle Chips, and good coffee. Today, we also picked up a huckleberry dark chocolate bar, made for the Genoa Country Store - TRY ONE ! This is a tiny place with 4 or so tables. They sell sandwiches, some pasta/potato salads, and ice cream. There is also a cute little gift shop attached. We literally drove 45 minutes to get the ice cream and as a person who doesn't eat much dessert, I have to say it was worth it. For $3.25, you get a huge cup of ice cream and they will put a cone on top. I got two flavors, coconut and salted caramel and they were both delicious. The coconut had chunks of coconut and the salted caramel had big swirls of caramel. My kids got rainbow sherbet and mango and loved them both. Yes, it's a tiny spot. You can't sit at the counter unless you're over 21 because apparently it's also a bar (found this out the hard way but they were very nice about it) and one table is so close to the bathroom that the people in line might as well sit on your lap while they wait. So we moved tables and all was good. If you are traveling through Genoa and you like ice cream, definitely give this place a try. Then go check out the museum across the street. It's only $1 to get in and it's an interesting piece of history. read more

After hearing about the Genoa Country Store's weekly take out dinners we decided to support local businesses during this Covid time and ordered two dinners to take out. I must say it did not live up to the hype and we were vastly disappointed. The Caesar salad was prepared ahead of time which I understand, but the croutons which were placed on top were not crisp but soggy. The baked potato one dinner was totally black and rotten both inside and out so we had to throw it out. The potato in the other dinner was huge so we split it but it was totally undercooked so we had to nuke it for another 7 minutes before it was soft enough to cut. We had planned to picnic with our dinner but it was too cold to do so. If we had we would have been unable to eat the potato. The toppings for the baked potato were sour cream, grated cheese, and bacon. That was great except there were 3 bacons and l cheese and the sour cream must have been sitting for awhile as there was liquid on the top of the sour cream. The tri tip was flavorful as was the bbq sauce and cooked perfectly, the apple crisp dessert good. All in all I won't be going back to order again as for $15.99 it did not turn out to be worth the price. read more

You must fill out an order sheet even if you are ordering one of the panini specials on the menu. The panini was no different than a regular tuna melt. It did not have special panini bread. I have no idea why it was more expensive than ordering a tuna melt. Tourist special? Service was rushed and unfriendly. (It was very busy.) After waiting 10 minutes, we were asked pointedly "Can I help you?" in a way that implied we were occupying a table for no reason. I said we were still waiting for our order. No apology -- just walks away to get it ready. I don't think the employees here are very happy. We planned to get ice cream, but service seemed so put out that we skipped it. I stood in line for 1/2 hour during the Western Heritage Days festival to get a hotdog. When checking out, I noticed a sign that said rootbeer floats for $5.99. I returned a little while later to purchase one of those rootbeer floats, and the line was twice as long. When I got to the front, I ordered the rootbeer float, and the young gal dishing up ice cream said we don't make those anymore. OK, so I planned to order two cups of ice cream and two rootbeer sodas, and she said I couldn't do that. At this juncture, I'm dumbfounded. So she said, "Let me as a supervisor/manager,' or something to that effect. The supervisor, an older gal, says she can't sell me that. Now I'm just hurt, I stood in line all this time for an advertised rootbeer float, and they tell me I can't order ice cream and a rootbeer to make the rootbeer floats myself. So very very disappointing. I am a regular as a Reno resident and frequent cyclists in that area. I was so looking forward to large simple salad. For $8 I got a large plate with One layer of lettuce. My friend ordered a small salad and got more salad on her small plate which was piled high than mine. I was very hungry after a 40 mile ride so I ate my salad ( what little there was) and now I wish I had returned it for my money back. I hate being ripped off.
