Bruschetta Crostini
Jerry P.

It is a curious thing that I live only a few minutes from Gennaro's yet almost never find myself dining there on my own. Perhaps it is because the meals I have there are so strongly tied to business dinners that my subconscious now associates the place with productivity instead of pleasure. That said, these dinners occur every few months, and I have rarely left disappointed. Our gatherings usually follow a familiar rhythm. A basket of bruschetta appears, accompanied by a simple salad that does its job without fanfare. Soon after come the main courses: ziti, chicken parmesan, and a steak dish, served family style, along with a medley of vegetables to make us all feel marginally virtuous. The food is reliably good, hearty, and satisfying. Every so often the kitchen's enthusiasm for salt outpaces mine, but never enough to spoil the evening. Dessert brings an assortment of pastries and petits fours, which make for a civilized end to the meal. Service is always friendly, professional, and attentive without hovering. The private back room where our group meets is comfortable and well-suited for conversation, a small haven where ideas are exchanged and plates are emptied at roughly the same pace. Four stars because nothing is perfect, but Gennaro's comes close enough for government work. If I ever start dining there on my own, I'll consider that a personal milestone.

Went to Gennaro's for dinner while visiting family in Hamilton. We made a reservation, so we were seated immediately after entering. It's a pretty nice restaurant, and it was pretty packed. Service was a bit slow, it took awhile before someone came to take our orders, though they did provide water. Our waitress was friendly and answered any questions we had regarding the food. But it did take long for our food to come out. I got to try the Potato Pizza, the plain Tomato pie, the shrimp scampi pasta, and the artichoke heart francese. Pizzas were OK. I've definitely had better Trenton Tomato Pies in the area. The shrimp on the shrimp scampi was overcooked, but the sauce was good. The artichoke heart francese was an appetizer, but it was my favorite thing. It could have passed for chicken francese with it's excellent texture.

Went to dinner with the family and sat outside. The breeze was perfect. Service was quick and very nice. I tried the Plum & Tonic and my wife tried the Cosmo. Both pretty good. Appetizers were fantastic my favorite was the sweet & spicy calamari. For my entree I had the chicken sorrentino. For dessert I had the pistachio ricotta cake.

Solid Italian restaurant in the area that we've been coming to for years. Lots of delicious, fresh, & flavorful dishes, some being out of the box. Pizza is great & so is the Vodka Chicken Parm. Ambiance inside is a nice and a little upscale feeling. Is pretty expensive, but not too much worse than most Italian in the area. Would definitely recommend.

Multicourse dinner out of this world Gennaros always such a great job. We had starters with Pizza Margarita two types of pasta stuffed mushrooms, great calamari.

Gennaro's is nestled in a strip mall on the Robbinsville/Hamilton stretch of Route 33 where there's no shortage of Italian eateries. I would say compared to other area restaurants, they got a bit of an edge in ambiance and atmosphere, which makes them ideal for date night, getting together with friends, or a family meal. They were decorated nicely for the holidays on a recent lunch visit with festive music playing. Meals start off with complimentary bread which is always a decent way to begin a meal. We got a variety of items including garlic bread with cheese, a personal tomato pie, and a chicken parmigiana sandwich. There were no weak points as all the items were fresh and flavorful, prepared using quality ingredients. The garlic bread was delicious and cheesy without being overly greasy. I am not the biggest fan of tomato pies as it's not in my wheelhouse for preferred style of pizza, so I'm not the best judge of them, but all the ingredients were flavorful. It could have used a little more crisp, but was decent nonetheless. While the fries were average, I liked that the chicken parmigiana sandwich had a decent cut of chicken as lots of restaurants have the thinly sliced variety that's mostly breading. The accompanying tomato sauce was robust and meshed well with the chicken, cheese, and bread for a satisfying meal. While nothing was particularly exceptional, the food was solid Italian fare, which is high praise in this area where almost every shopping plaza has a pizzeria/Italian restaurant. Service was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. We'd definitely return to Gennaro's and recommend them to others looking for Italian cuisine in the Robbinsville/Hamilton area.

We love this restaurant, we've been coming since it first opened. We came for Christmas Eve dinner as a family and every single thing we ordered was delicious. Our service on Christmas Eve was also amazing, our waitress was very sweet and efficient. Their pizza is great especially the grandma pie.

Just not good- I've gotten food here countless times, both in person and takeout, and I somehow keep forgetting how mediocre it is. In person is slightly decent, but still not worth it. Theres so many better places in central NJ. The pasta comes with barely any sauce, the salad was flavorless, just genuinely not good.

Linguine Shrimp Scampi

Stop in here for lunch with my sister. It took a while for us to be waited on. However, when the waitress arrived, she was very nice and personable. I ordered the Linguine Shrimp Scampi and was slightly disappointed all the shrimp, but one was overcooked. My sister ordered the grilled chicken, which she said was very good and cooked perfectly. I'm not sure if I would return if I did, I would give the pizza a shot.

Why bother?I grew up on food like this and it is a really poor representation of the way these simple preparations should taste.

The desire to try out a new spot in the area that served up the more traditional round pie led me here. Although I stopped in for take out, they have a decent dining area between the tables inside and the outdoor patio area. I went with a standard cheese pizza and an order of garlic knots. The garlic knots (3.25/5) were a bit on the smaller side, but served in a nice portion size with a decent garlic kick to them. The large cheese pizza (3.5/5) was a small notch above the central New Jersey average, with the dough, sauce, & cheese coming together for a nice pizza experience, although I did have to sprinkle on some spices to add to the flavor profile a bit. Service (4/5) while picking up was friendly, although slightly slow at first since the guy at the counter was initially fixated on his phone for a bit. Overall, I'd rate Massimo's a 3.5/5 pizza experience, and don't mind rounding up since Yelp doesn't allow half stars and menu prices were fairly reasonable. While I'm not sure I'd choose Massimo's over other pizza competitors in the Robbinsville/Hamilton area, it's still a decent option should you find yourself looking for a more traditional round pizza experience.

And yet Nonno Sal's keeps the ovens hot and the lights on. There's something admirable about that. Persistence is a virtue, and so is knowing exactly what you are. Nonno Sal's isn't chasing the high end pizza pilgrim. You won't find philosophical arguments about char or hydration levels happening here. What you will find is a fairly dependable pie with thin crust that holds up, a good layer of cheese, and sauce that tastes like someone has been making it the same way for awhile. The slices fold without complaint and the toppings behave themselves. It's the sort of pizza you bring home on a Friday when everyone is tired and nobody wants to cook or a speech. The prices are kinder to your wallet than the famous spots nearby, and that matters. Not every meal needs to be a religious experience. Sometimes food just needs to feed five people without causing regret. The sandwiches and salads are solid citizens too. Nothing showy, just competent and filling. They even still do a nice version of Peppers and Eggs, which is a throwback I can appreciate. The dining area has a few old Formica tables that look like they have seen a few Little League celebrations, but not much regular use. You can eat there if you like, but this is a takeout joint through and through. In a world that rewards spectacle, Nonno Sal's rewards appetite and respects your budget. It knows its job and does it. It's definitely not a fancy place you'd want to dine in at, despite having a full menu of pizza and Italian dishes. We kept things simple by ordering a large plain cheese pizza and a chicken parmigiana sandwich. The pizza was slightly above average for a central NJ pizzeria, with decent sauce, cheese, and crust. It was a slightly thinner base and crust as compared to more doughy and thicker counterparts in the area. The chicken parm sandwich was similarly above average with decent ingredients. Everything was satisfying and on par for a good central NJ pizza experience.
