First time here at this Mercer County staple... They don't have your normal traditional pizza pies and I was open to the flatbread experience. Our server, James was very attentive, hands-on and informational. This establishment made me a believer and a fan of thin crust, pizza... I will be back here tomorrow lol... I was feeling so experimental as I was enjoying my lunch, I even tried red pepper flakes for the first time and I feel like my life has changed. Sorry, the food was so good. We forgot to take a picture.
This has been on my list for a long time since Dave's review, but was too far out of the way until I planned a trip home from the shore around stopping here for an early dinner. The vibes were great, with wait staff walking around in vests and ties. The pizza was thin and very crispy - almost cracker-like while still having just a bit of chew at the crust. There was definitely a tomato flavor, but the pizza was not particularly stand-out - but became significantly better once adding garlic and oregano. With slightly more seasoning in the sauce, it could be an excellent contender for best pizza, but as it stands, needed that little extra oomph that it was missing.
This was a modern-looking spot with loud music and a simple menu. The menu consisted of salads and pizzas along with a few desserts. The staff was friendly and the food came out very fast. The prices were reasonable too. The cold octopus salad ($13) and olive bowl ($6) were ordered for starters. The salad consisted of baby arugula, Calabrian chili peppers, and Gigante beans. I believe spring mix was used actually. Regardless, this was a well put together salad. There were plenty of pieces of octopus. They were a little inconsistent as some were tough, but they had the right amount of flavor. The beans were a pleasant surprise too. The olive mix had a good variety with plenty of them too. The large tomato pie ($19.25) was ordered. The crust was way thinner than I thought. It had good flavor, but was actually a little too crunchy, but nothing terrible where I would not order again. The tomato sauce was great, one of the better ones I had. It had a great balance with the tasty crust. Will I go back? Definitely.
Just had a pizza takeout, drove 2 hours to try it, I think it's worth the drive. It's definitely in the top 10 pizzas, I've ever ate, I think it's even in the top 5. Number 1 I think depends on preference, but this is in the top 5 I have ever eaten, amazing pie. Very light pie, great great crust and sauce. Awesome awesome stuff. The pizza is worth every bite. Worth the drive
THE GOOD ---------------- + Tomato Pie with Mushrooms and Sausage was fantassstic! ++++ Thin, crispy, super duper fresh, organized toppings (not just thrown around randomly) and very flavorful. ++++ Large pie was plenty enough for our family of 4 and is probably a few slices more than needed for 2 people. ++++ Pizza was cut St. Louis/tavern style, which was interesting considering this is a Trenton-style pie. + Cold Octopus Salad was delicious too. LOTS of fresh cold octopus in it on a bed of arugula and peppers. + Plenty of parking spots outside, BUT lot gets packed during prime dining times. + Lots of tables inside, but some are pretty close to each other. + Only waited about 5 minutes for a table for 4 when we arrived at 5:30 PM on a Friday evening. + Service and hospitality was top notch. ++++ Waiters were all friendly and cordial, despite it being extremely busy. No employee seemed flustered throughout. They seemed to thrive in the Friday rush. ++++ Food came out very quickly (and fresh at that!) THE NOT SO GOOD ---------------------------- - Nada. MIXED THOUGHTS --------------------------- = Nada. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = Restaurant was pacccccked on a freeezing winter Friday evening at 5:30 PM, but a relatively short wait of about only 5 minutes! There seemed to be a slightly longer wait for folks coming in later as a lot of people were in the tight waiting area for a while from 6-6:45PM. Everyone was quoted a 30 minute wait, including us, but, like I said, we were seated in 5 minutes. CONCLUSION -------------------- = The hype is absolutely well deserved. The pizza is that damn good. Was it the best pizza I've ever had? Not exactly, but having been to pizza establishments like DiFara's, Frank Pepe's, Lombardi's, Papa's Tomato Pies, Razza, it was ABSOLUTELY in the top 10 I've ever had.
- Extremely popular spot--by 5:30 pm on a Friday, both the parking lot and dining room were already packed; our wait was reasonable, but it quickly grew much longer as the evening went on; there is a nice nook area in the front for waiting, and a mounted self-service corkscrew/beer bottle opening station in the entryway--cups provided - Large dining room with plenty of tables and booths, though still not quite enough for the constant stream of diners; tables were spacious and nicely spaced so you don't feel cramped; warm, comfortable lighting throughout, but crowd noise does get fairly loud - Service was warm, friendly, and attentive; despite how busy it was, the waitstaff remained efficient and genuinely cordial - Food was fantastic: the large tomato pie with sweet sausage and mushrooms arrived piping hot and generously topped (though not perfectly evenly distributed)--great flavor and a very thin crust that stayed soft without falling apart--cut tavern-style; the cold octopus salad featured a generous portion of tender octopus with a pleasant bite over arugula, lightly dressed with EVOO--adding a squeeze of lemon gave it the perfect pop of brightness
Actually 4.5 stars. Great food and service. We had the heirloom Caprese salad. Lots of tomatoes and pine nuts with arugula and onion. A little too many onions but easy to pick out. Simple oil and red vinegar dressing and black pepper. More than enough for 2 people, can easily feed 3. We got a plain pizza. Very thin, well done crust. You can order less or more done. To me, it was perfectly done, right amount of crisp and char. Fresh, chunky tomato sauce, not drenched in it. Zero flop. A large pie can easily feed two, probably three. We were told it was a 25 to 30 minute wait, was actually closer to 10 to 15. But prepare to wait. Totally satisfied my pizza craving.
Time for an update here. We have been going to De Lorenzo's for over 20 years and they never fail to deliver the goods. Simply the best pizza (Trenton tomato pie) in Jersey. End of story!
I thank Dave for having this pizza place so high on the list. I wasn't sure what to expect for a tomato pie, my aunt mentioned the lack of cheese on the pizza. But my gosh!! The tomato sauce was the best I've ever had!! I just kept grabbing bite after bite after bite! I practically inhaled the large by myself. The pizza is thin crust, so a normal sized man will need 1.5 pies. Or maybe just 1 large pie to himself. The pies are cut into rectangles. I couldn't get past how amazing the tomato sauce was.. I'm so glad I was able to find a good pizza joint before leaving this go back to Arizona, land of no good pizza! I will definitely be returning here. We arrived 30 mins after open and the wait was a little over an hour for a table. Around 6:30pm we noticed tables were being left vacant. So that's seems to be when the wait time is minimal. Well worth the wait though!!
TL; DR: Skip the cheese and get the white pie Very casual place that has a limited menu, so you know whatever you get will be delicious. The Arugula Salad was easy to share with 4 people and had lots of cheese on it. The cheese pizza was fine, but I'm a person who loves cheese and there wasn't enough for me. The sauce is more tomato forward and didn't have a lot of cheese coverage on the top, so you could see the red sauce more than your usual pizza. The white pie with mushrooms, spinach, and garlic was delicious (my favorite by far). Every pizza came out hot, steaming, and perfectly cooked. Can't wait to go back!
Went there on a high recommendation. It's just salads and thin crust pizza. I love thin crust, but this pizza was super thin to the point of tasting like cardboard toasted over a few times the pizza lacked flavor and the outer crust was actually burnt. Service was fair. No atmosphere. Not my fav
This spot was packed on a Saturday night and there was quite a waitlist. Part of our group went to put our name down on the waitlist in advance and then we hung out elsewhere until it was our turn. The pizza was delicious! They offer both small and large sizes and you can pick which toppings to add. The crust is thin and crunchy. They don't really do white pizzas. They have several salad options as well. The atmosphere is casual and lively. Service was fine overall - a little slow at times but decent considering how busy it was!
Fast, affordable, delicious pies. Well done crust has a nice crunch but center is still very floppy. Still, some of the better clam pizzas around Jersey area.

I'm new to the area and this seems like the most recommended place among my peers . My friends were absolutely right I had half mustard half Trenton style and it was probably the best pizza I've ever had and I am very experienced in getting good pizza The place is spotless and the staff was very friendly This is the place where I will be going to often read more
Great service, ample parking at this location and the place seems like a spot that is always popping! The pies were good, but certainly had different expectations. They were fresh and hot with a little more char than preferred but the sauce needed more flavor. read more
Wow The Trenton Style Tomato Pie may be the BEAT pizza we have had to date. Their seasonal Fig Prosciutto Burrata salad, awesome. Hands down the real deal. GOAT Our server was friendly and courteous. The ambiance inside high end for a pizza establishment. read more

Well, well, well.... If you know then you know. If you don't know then you better get over here quick! This unique style pizza flourishes down south jersey and this spot cooks it up to perfection. It hits your taste buds on all levels! The freshness, crispness, zestiness... I have day dreams and wet dreams about this pie! Too bad I don't live in the area, otherwise I'll be here a lottttttttt more than my diet would allow me to. Simple menu, and they don't skimp out on the toppings. Make it your way and DO NOT share! FYI: Parking might be tough since this is in a shared lot with other businesses. read more

First time here. This place is talked about throughout our company and when people come into town this is a go-to. Dave Portnoy rated this one of the highest ratings he has ever done and he isn't far off. The crust is unbelievable and the tomatoes just taste different here. I loved the pizza (one of five) where they put green peppers, sausage, onions and pepperoni...just amazing. The service was awesome and the ambiance is old school with a modern twist. Highly recommend this place and need to put this place on a "must go" every-time you are in town. Well done! read more

6/28/25 - No baseball this weekend as a lot of the places I wanted to hit had really poor weather forecasts. So we tried a New Jersey pizza institution in Robbinsville.... DeLorenzo's. And before you guys jump me--- yes I know it's called tomato pie and not pizza. For the folks that dont know: Pizza is dough, then sauce and then cheese. Tomato pie is dough, then cheese and then sauce. DeLorenzo's specializes in thin crust tomato pies. We stuck with plain and for the second pie we got pepperoni and basil. The crust has a nice char and is very flavorful and super crispy. Truth be told, some of the pies I saw coming out of the kitchen are works of art. And as they bring them out, you can see steam coming off of them throughout the restaurant. This is definitely a place to sit down and eat. Do take out another night. I had heard about long lines here but I didn't experience that. We walked in at 6pm on a Saturday night and were seated immediately. Although I preferred the New Haven pizza places more, this is a great place to get a great pie for New Jersey residents. The crust is great and the cheese is tasty but the sauce is the real star here.....bursting with flavor and in perfect proportion. Take your wife and kids.... you wont be disappointed. I'm not usually a fan of pizza but I would absolutely go back to De Lorenzo's. The pie is very thin with crispy edges and the sauce is so incredibly fresh and authentic. We were a table of four and ordered the salad to share which was very refreshing. Then we ordered two large pies, one half eggplant and half meatball and the other half basil and half basil and onion. Everyone ate nearly half a pie but honestly we were so stuffed I don't think half a pie per person is necessary. The eggplant was not as good as the other toppings but everything was generally very tasty. We did order extra basil and they charged us for it but we didn't really receive extra basil. I am surprised that they only have the one cheese option and one sauce option. I get that they need to make the pies quickly but it would really expand the options to have a pesto or some ricotta or burrata. read more

Delicious pizza. After many years, I finally went here for the first time. They don't take reservations so going earlier is a must unless you want to wait outside. I arrived with a party of 7 around 5:30 and got our table, but by time we left around 7:30 it was packed. The temperature was ok, slightly cold, but not freezing so not too bad. Service was ok, though multiple times I had no water in my cup for over a half hour even after asking twice. I also waited far too long for the check. I asked for another pie to go and it was brought to the table so we had to wait for them to take it back to put in a box. Otherwise, the experience was a good one. The pizza was excellent. As per the menu states, if you don't like burnt crust pizza you must ask for it to be cooked lighter, which I did. It isn't "light" but more like regular crispy and just not burnt. It was super good. I'll be back just based off the pizza being so good. read more

Excellent service and delicious food! We are in town visiting some of my hub's family and his cousin recommended we try this place and I'm glad we did. We ordered a few pizzas to try and also the tomato salad with blue cheese. Everything was delicious. Note, this place is BYOB in case you'd like to bring a drink with you. Cheers! read more
Maybe it was because they were swamped but my half tomato/half pepperoni mushroom sausage pizza came out an absolute mess. I'm also not sure about the slicing methods here but this ended up being a fork and knife situation. I'll try again when I'm back in NJ, but for now it was just an okay tomato pie...especially for being rated "best in NJ" read more
I love pizza and am a strong advocate for Jersey-pizza (how the best pizza in the nation is found in New Jersey - naysayers could admonish me in the DMs if you'd like, thank you). Naturally, in my never-ending quest to enjoy good pizza in my home state, I landed myself at De Lorenzo's Tomato Pies in Robbinsville, New Jersey. With that being said, De Lorenzo's Tomato Pies is not the typical New Jersey pizza. De Lorenzo's dazzles and delights in their own very unique way. As mentioned by others, the crust stands out first as the diner attacks each slice. The outer edges of the pie sustain a degree of burned and charred character which give it a distinguishable crispy crunch. The burnt flavor is then immediately paired with a seemingly 50/50 tomato base and cheese topping the crust (I find that Jersey pizza generally maintains a 25/75 tomato base to cheese). Whilst different, it captures the essence of De Lorenzo's uniqueness and branding. The tomato base gives it a great vinegar and tangy flavor, while the cheese flavor is not extremely overbearing and showcases the quality of the dairy being applied. I was able to take down a small sized pie by myself (it was just the perfect amount). Glancing at the tables around me, it appeared that the salads looked spectacular and worthy of your taste buds. The staff were great and professional, and you could definitely see the American-Italian influences in the wear of the staff and the decor of the establishment which produces almost a Goodfellas -type of ambiance. Additionally, there is an extra flair with being able to see the open kitchen in the dining room, being able to watch the pizzas being prepared right before your salivating taste buds. De Lorenzo's is definitely worth the trip to take a stab of their highly rated pizza. read more

Came here for lunch on a weekday. There were a decent amount of people but it wasn't packed. We ordered a large tomato pie with sausage. The servers were attentive and the food came fast. I'm a big fan of the idea of tomato pie because I think the sauce often times can make or break the pizza (aside from the dough of course). The tomato pie was thin and had a cracker like crust which was slightly softer in the middle. The sauce was definitely the star of the show with the chunky tomatoes. The cheese was also really good quality and the sausage tasted fresh. Overall I enjoyed the pizza and I get the hype. I like the thin crust but personally I wish it had a little more chew to it, especially on the edges, but i can see people really liking this style crust. We dined in at De Lorenzo's recently, and did not disappoint! Barstool sports One Bite rated 9.2, so it's been our radar for a while. We got a tomato pie with meatballs. Thin, firm crust and the freshest ingredients. The "tomato pie" style has a slight char on the crust, which we like. Separate servers for drinks and entrees make it very efficient to getting families in and out. read more
