Our Fam @ De Lorenzo's Tomato Pies!
Chris E.

THE GOOD ---------------- + Tomato Pie with Mushrooms and Sausage was fantassstic! ++++ Thin, crispy, super duper fresh, organized toppings (not just thrown around randomly) and very flavorful. ++++ Large pie was plenty enough for our family of 4 and is probably a few slices more than needed for 2 people. ++++ Pizza was cut St. Louis/tavern style, which was interesting considering this is a Trenton-style pie. + Cold Octopus Salad was delicious too. LOTS of fresh cold octopus in it on a bed of arugula and peppers. + Plenty of parking spots outside, BUT lot gets packed during prime dining times. + Lots of tables inside, but some are pretty close to each other. + Only waited about 5 minutes for a table for 4 when we arrived at 5:30 PM on a Friday evening. + Service and hospitality was top notch. ++++ Waiters were all friendly and cordial, despite it being extremely busy. No employee seemed flustered throughout. They seemed to thrive in the Friday rush. ++++ Food came out very quickly (and fresh at that!) THE NOT SO GOOD ---------------------------- - Nada. MIXED THOUGHTS --------------------------- = Nada. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = Restaurant was pacccccked on a freeezing winter Friday evening at 5:30 PM, but a relatively short wait of about only 5 minutes! There seemed to be a slightly longer wait for folks coming in later as a lot of people were in the tight waiting area for a while from 6-6:45PM. Everyone was quoted a 30 minute wait, including us, but, like I said, we were seated in 5 minutes. CONCLUSION -------------------- = The hype is absolutely well deserved. The pizza is that damn good. Was it the best pizza I've ever had? Not exactly, but having been to pizza establishments like DiFara's, Frank Pepe's, Lombardi's, Papa's Tomato Pies, Razza, it was ABSOLUTELY in the top 10 I've ever had.

- Extremely popular spot--by 5:30 pm on a Friday, both the parking lot and dining room were already packed; our wait was reasonable, but it quickly grew much longer as the evening went on; there is a nice nook area in the front for waiting, and a mounted self-service corkscrew/beer bottle opening station in the entryway--cups provided - Large dining room with plenty of tables and booths, though still not quite enough for the constant stream of diners; tables were spacious and nicely spaced so you don't feel cramped; warm, comfortable lighting throughout, but crowd noise does get fairly loud - Service was warm, friendly, and attentive; despite how busy it was, the waitstaff remained efficient and genuinely cordial - Food was fantastic: the large tomato pie with sweet sausage and mushrooms arrived piping hot and generously topped (though not perfectly evenly distributed)--great flavor and a very thin crust that stayed soft without falling apart--cut tavern-style; the cold octopus salad featured a generous portion of tender octopus with a pleasant bite over arugula, lightly dressed with EVOO--adding a squeeze of lemon gave it the perfect pop of brightness

Went there on a high recommendation. It's just salads and thin crust pizza. I love thin crust, but this pizza was super thin to the point of tasting like cardboard toasted over a few times the pizza lacked flavor and the outer crust was actually burnt. Service was fair. No atmosphere. Not my fav

Stopped by to grab a pizza for takeout. Definitely a 5 star pizza. Service was fast and friendly. Glad I came to try this legendary spot out.

Time for an update here. We have been going to De Lorenzo's for over 20 years and they never fail to deliver the goods. Simply the best pizza (Trenton tomato pie) in Jersey. End of story!

I thank Dave for having this pizza place so high on the list. I wasn't sure what to expect for a tomato pie, my aunt mentioned the lack of cheese on the pizza. But my gosh!! The tomato sauce was the best I've ever had!! I just kept grabbing bite after bite after bite! I practically inhaled the large by myself. The pizza is thin crust, so a normal sized man will need 1.5 pies. Or maybe just 1 large pie to himself. The pies are cut into rectangles. I couldn't get past how amazing the tomato sauce was.. I'm so glad I was able to find a good pizza joint before leaving this go back to Arizona, land of no good pizza! I will definitely be returning here. We arrived 30 mins after open and the wait was a little over an hour for a table. Around 6:30pm we noticed tables were being left vacant. So that's seems to be when the wait time is minimal. Well worth the wait though!!

TL; DR: Skip the cheese and get the white pie Very casual place that has a limited menu, so you know whatever you get will be delicious. The Arugula Salad was easy to share with 4 people and had lots of cheese on it. The cheese pizza was fine, but I'm a person who loves cheese and there wasn't enough for me. The sauce is more tomato forward and didn't have a lot of cheese coverage on the top, so you could see the red sauce more than your usual pizza. The white pie with mushrooms, spinach, and garlic was delicious (my favorite by far). Every pizza came out hot, steaming, and perfectly cooked. Can't wait to go back!

Fast, affordable, delicious pies. Well done crust has a nice crunch but center is still very floppy. Still, some of the better clam pizzas around Jersey area.

This spot was packed on a Saturday night and there was quite a waitlist. Part of our group went to put our name down on the waitlist in advance and then we hung out elsewhere until it was our turn. The pizza was delicious! They offer both small and large sizes and you can pick which toppings to add. The crust is thin and crunchy. They don't really do white pizzas. They have several salad options as well. The atmosphere is casual and lively. Service was fine overall - a little slow at times but decent considering how busy it was!

Well, well, well.... If you know then you know. If you don't know then you better get over here quick! This unique style pizza flourishes down south jersey and this spot cooks it up to perfection. It hits your taste buds on all levels! The freshness, crispness, zestiness... I have day dreams and wet dreams about this pie! Too bad I don't live in the area, otherwise I'll be here a lottttttttt more than my diet would allow me to. Simple menu, and they don't skimp out on the toppings. Make it your way and DO NOT share! FYI: Parking might be tough since this is in a shared lot with other businesses.

I can't believe this was my first visit as a New Jersey native. The pizza was delicious, with a thin crust and incredible sauce. I can see what the hype is about. The service was friendly, and the place was busy despite the weekday lunch hour but we didn't have to wait long for our table

Marc W.

One of the best pies you'll ever have. Go and get some. No bs. No reservations taken but it's worth the wait.

First time here. This place is talked about throughout our company and when people come into town this is a go-to. Dave Portnoy rated this one of the highest ratings he has ever done and he isn't far off. The crust is unbelievable and the tomatoes just taste different here. I loved the pizza (one of five) where they put green peppers, sausage, onions and pepperoni...just amazing. The service was awesome and the ambiance is old school with a modern twist. Highly recommend this place and need to put this place on a "must go" every-time you are in town. Well done!

They do not know your name or care about your childhood. I picked the Seasonal Stir-Fry, the Chesapeake Crab Stir-Fry. Egg white noodles. Crab with Old Bay seasoning. Bell peppers. Red onions. Scallions. Parsley. Seasoned breadcrumbs. Old Bay sauce. I swapped the grape tomatoes for mushrooms. I also ordered a bottle of Mexican Coke. Cane sugar as God intended. It felt almost rebellious to drink something that tasted like the 20th century. The place was nearly empty when I walked in, but within five minutes it was buzzing. Three line cooks moved like their feet were on fire. A young woman at the front kept the chaos civilized, sliding bags onto shelves and trays into hands with the calm of someone who has seen worse days. She was very good at her job. My order arrived hot enough to make my glasses fog. The crab was all body meat, none of the prized claw, but there was plenty of it. Sometimes quantity has a quality all it's own. The Old Bay gave a mild sting on the tongue and reminded me that flavor is sometimes about memory as much as ingredients. The napkins had a word search, a maze, and a spot-the-difference game on the backs. I did not touch them. I admired the idea though. It was a neat way to keep kids or bored adults occupied without wasting paper on disposable menus, flyers or tray covers. The meal and soda cost just under twenty dollars with tip. That is a little high for noodles and crab from a fast casual joint, but these are the days we are living in. All in all, I left satisfied, and asking for more than that from your lunch is just setting yourself up for disappointment. 4 stars.

During my recent visits, I noticed some inconsistencies in portion sizes. At first, I thought it might just be a one time thing, but today I had a chance to observe a few orders being prepared while waiting for my husband's smoothie. It seemed like some bowls were filled above the measuring line, while mine was slightly under. I completely understand that things can vary during busy times, but I just wanted to mention it as feedback. Consistency in portions would really help ensure all customers feel they're getting the same value. I'm sharing this with the intention of being helpful, as I do enjoy coming here and hope to continue supporting your business.

I do wish there were a few more small Danish or pastry options to grab with a coffee. Sometimes you just want a simple little something on the side. The only thing I was curious about was the music. Worship songs were playing the entire time. I wasn't sure if the owners are religious or if the staff just didn't realize what station was on. It's definitely a bold choice and might not resonate with everyone, depending on their beliefs. That said, it didn't ruin my visit -- just something I noticed. Overall, I'd return and would be happy to stop by again for another review soon. **After posting and reading other reviews... maybe I came (in the morning) at a bad time and there weren't pastries available?

The zucchini fritte was fried to a golden crisp and felt light and satisfying. The meat and cheese board is truly perfect for pairing with some pre-dinner drinks!
