stopped in for lunch today and began the visit by waiting to be seated while the hostess was tied up on the phone. upon being seated we placed drink and then food orders. the restaurant was unusually empty for what should have been a busy Friday lunch crowd. After ordering one lunch special and three salads i discovered why. if you were on a lunch break you won't make it back in time. service is attentive but moves slow. the kitchen moves even slower. i tested this theory by observing other patrons that entered. almost all appeared to be retired or not currently in the work place. the food was good but by the time my special arrived it wasn't hot. salads were good and delivered just as ordered. it's a nice restaurant, lighting was a bit dim for lunch and looked like more of a dinner time ambiance. i'd give them another try, maybe i caught them on an off day! read more

If I could give them 0 stars I would. The reason 1 star can suffice is solely due to the kindness, generosity, and professionalism displayed by the hostess, Elizabeth, and manager, Carson. I'm not usually one to leave reviews because, generally, I don't feel that it's worth my time or because I don't feel slighted to degree that I feel it is necessary; however, this is an unfortunately rare acceptance. At 6:35 p.m. I placed an order for a chicken, bacon, and ranch pasta through the official restaurant website, as recommended per the online ordering processes, and after I had paid I was notified that my order would be ready around 6:50 p.m. Upon arrival I was told that my order had been picked up. Through further investigation it was apparent that the person that received my order had done so through fraudulent means. Strangely enough, the person the procured my order had information on my name (Shawn Northington) and exactly what I had ordered. I deduce that they were somehow able to bypass whatever security the restaurant has in place to obtain that information which includes my name, phone number, email, and my payment information. That is bad enough, but I figured I could lock my card if worse came to worse. I waited roughly an hour and half for a single pasta and was reasonably upset. Photos of camera footage was brought to me, and I was questioned on whether or not the person who received the order looked familiar. She did not. By this point I had gone to the bar for a beer while I waited on my food. After nearly two hours I was informed that upper management felt it was necessary to charge me half the cost ON TOP OF the full price I had already paid in order to receive my pasta. At this point I feel that I'm reasonably pissed off, but I'm doing my best to have self control and maintain my composure. During my time in college in Oxford I've done everything in the restaurant business in front and back of the house: worked the kitchen, served, bar backed, and bartended. In all that time I've never experienced a situation in which the food couldn't simply be re-made and considered a sunk cost within 10 to 15 minutes. I wasn't demanding for my meal to be comped for my wait nor was I upset for it. My issue is with the fact that not only was my personal time not being considered, but also I was being dually charged for being a victim in this situation as well. In my mind this an irreparable slight that was grossly mishandled. read more

I needed a somewhat healthy option so I checked out their menu online and thought, I can make this work. I arrived shortly after 1pm. I had the absolute best server, Villi. It was only him and another guy. By the time I left, 3 other tables had been seated. He was very kind and attentive. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich sans the bun, steamed broccoli and a side salad with blue cheese dressing. The side salad was good. Fresh and crisp. Blue cheese dressing is mediocre considering it is house made. The kitchen took FOREVER and there were only 2 other tables. The plate looked good. Fresh broccoli steamed perfectly. The chicken looked great, at a glance. A big pile of ham with melted cheese. That chicken was the toughest and driest piece of meat ever. I could barely cut it with my butter knife. I'm sure I looked like a cow chewing it. I made it work because I needed to get home and basically I'm trying to nourish my body while eating somewhat healthy. I'm trying to figure out why it took so long to get my food. That chicken was cooked entirely too much. What were they doing during the 30 minutes? $23 for that plate with a tea. Stupid. The last couple of times we have eaten here it is not been great. I'm not sure. I will be back anytime soon. read more

I decided to order something simple to take it easy on the server. Unfortunately my order somehow got lost in the shuffle and by the time it ( a fried chicken salad ) made it to the table, everyone else was finishing their meal. Decor was really cool and told the story of Brandon's history. Apps were good, had the mushrooms, artichoke dip and cheese curds, they came out fast and were flavorful. Ordered the surf and turf pasta and the meat was cook as requested and shrimp was not over cooked, Alfredo was flavorful and had a nice kick to it. Server was great, several members in my party are needy and she was really good quick at responding and always with a smile. It's been a long time since I have been to Genna Benna's. The food was really good. What I had a problem with was the drink. My friend asked about beer on tap. She was told they didn't have a list but she could tell her. I then asked about wine. She didn't offer a menu she just told me what they had. My fault for not asking about a menu or prices. It's Downtown Brandon, not Char. When the check came I questioned why my bill doubled she reminded me I had wine. I was not given a receipt to look at. I was handed a machine that was already in the tip & sign section. I asked for a receipt to sent to me, so thankful I did. I looked at it much later after receiving the text later that night. My one glass of wine was $17. Can I tell you how upset I was. My food was $21 & the wine was $17. I felt scammed and extremely disappointed. I wanted to write a review on Yelp but I knew the right thing was to talk to a person first. I stopped by the next afternoon to talk to the manager. A young lady told the manager I wanted to talk to them. After waiting 15 minutes I left. Now I feel even more scammed. Lesson learned I will insist on a drink menu if I go back. And I will insist on a printed receipt before I pay. You really disappointed me Genna Benna. read more

The food here was decent. Nothing was too memorable for me, but everything tasted good. I came here on a Friday afternoon to meet a co-worker. We came in around 3, and started off with the spinach dip. This was delicious, flavorful, greasy & perfect ratio of spinach & cheese. I ordered the 9 crimes cab and the daily special which was the andouille sausage pizza, and my co worker got the chicken strip basket. The pizza was mediocre, but the chicken strips were really well seasoned and crisp to almost perfection. I was shocked who good these were. Fries were good as well!! We then ended our meal with turtle cheesecake. It was okay, the chocolate syrup tasted store bought but it was decent. Service was great though! Shoutout to our waitress she was sweet :) read more

I love Genna Benna's. I really do. I don't get to go there much because we are on a fixed income and don't have much to spend on eating out, but we do try to make it there 3-4 times a year. They have a wide variety of things from which to choose which is wonderful. I've only tried one thing I didn't care for. The staff are awesome. The wait time to get your food is definitely not bad at all. Be sure to try their crawfish empanadas, the fried chicken salad, and the redfish. All spectacular!! read more

What made the service even better was the fact that she knew how to make conversation, even over the smallest things. The food was great as usual. My man got the fish platter & I got seafood pasta & let me just say ... NEITHER DISAPPOINTED. The sweet chili wings are always a hit & I'm not a sweet & spicy kind of woman. We went here to go to the Gallows, based on a recommendation from a local. We didn't know that the Gallows didn't open for hours. We decided to sit and relax. What we didn't know was that we would be sitting & relaxing for more time than we expected. We ordered a couple of drinks and a couple of appetizers. And then we waited...and waited... it was 40 minutes to get spinach dip & wings. Our server, Natalie, was great. When we finally got our food - well... the boneless wings were very good. Spinach dip was good, but the toasted bread they served was so dry, crumbly. We also noted some server behavior that was not cool - gum chewing and drinking from a personal cup at the hostess station. Oh, and when there are four people around the hostess station & you're at a table that has not been served? Maybe they should pay attention. This is a hard one. I really wanted to like this place. Let's see, the shrimp and grits were different and good but not a lot of shrimp and a lot of grits. The redfish and sauce were good, not outstanding but there was a nothing special about the rice pilaf The bench seat is uncomfortable and the chair was kinda small for a large hiney. They use plastic cups rather than glass and straws which is wasteful and bad for the environment. The acoustics are bad for conversations. The fish and rice was $16.00 for lunch. We love Genna Benna's and are so glad to have them in downtown Brandon. The food is really always good. I love their chicken tenders, grilled chicken sandwich, and a few other sandwiches on the menu. Others in the family typically order shrimp and grits, hamburger steak, and the chicken pasta and are always pleased. You could really make a meal of the appetizers - the crawfish empanadas and spinach dip apps are good every time. I've had awesome service and kinda mediocre there, but never a bad experience. Two coworkers and myself ordered here yesterday. I had the blue plate with chicken breast, mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. One coworker had chicken nuggets and the other had the beef tip baked potato. The chicken was so big and overcooked, I'm guessing bc it was so big. The potatoes and Mac and cheese were really good. My coworker who ordered the baked potato with beef tips, said the taste was great. However, the baked potato was not even as big as a child's fist. I must say this was probably the smallest potato I have ever seen. The potato was $12 and he literally had about five bites of food. So needless to say this was a huge disappointment especially for him. And as I stated the chicken was so dry you could not eat it and I'm guessing it's because it was so large they had to cook it way too long. With all of this being said, our office group will not be dining at Genna Benna's again. I mean who can spend that much on food and it's not even enough to fill them up! read more

The staff here was excellent and the resturant has a nice open homely air to it.. I didn't realize until I was here though that this place also was under another name in a different city called Georgia blue. The Georgia blue shut down a few years ago in my city and I can almost guarantee it was due to the prices. This place is in line with this.. I ordered the fried okra appetizer first. expecting it to be crispy but it seems the flour was not allowed to set long enough before being put in the fryer.. resulting in a more mushy rather than crispy bite. Honestly the okra themselves had almost no flavor.. not even in the crust.. with the sauce it came with being a little too spicy it was hard to taste anything but I ate it because I paid for it. The chicken tenderloins were huge! which was appreciated but once again.. it's like the kitchen refused to use salt. They were crispy and good cuts of chicken breast but it's shameful that I could barely taste anything but breadcrumbs. The honey mustard helped a little but only a little. I ended up taking home about half of this order. The grits were chunky as should be but also lacked some seasoning. Finally the creme brulee. I have eaten creme brulee before.. and I am no chef but this was overpriced in my opinion. For what you get on the plate compared to what you paid for would have you shaking your head. The top was crisp slightly charred crust with the inside being typical mildly sweet pudding.. there was a white sauce sprinkled on the plate and I found myself trying to use my spoon to grab every little amount of it and then dip the spoon in the brulee to get a satisfying sweetness. All in all, this place had great staff, great decor and atmosphere but only okay food. And after spending $38 on a meal just for one person..i can't see myself going back anytime soon. I would rather pay more and get better taste and quality than to pay more and get more quantity over quality. read more

My husband and I went to Genna Benna's today for lunch. The place has great atmosphere and decor! The chairs were horribly uncomfortable. I ordered the Cajun pizza which was awesome! My husband ordered the shrimp pasta and it needed salt but after that it was good! It looked like a small portion but was filling! It was just enough food with no left overs! The price was a little high, but no more than restaurants in the area! With a $5 tip we didn't even get to $40. Would recommend a go there! read more

This was our second time to visit. The service was great. When you walk in a hostess will seat you. Menus are available or you can scan the bar code at the table for a menu. There are 5 in our family and we each ordered something different. The chicken parm pasta my daughter ordered was excellent. The redfish was great. Shrimp scampi pasta lacked flavor but was okay. One daughter had the seafood pasta and it was not good. The noddles were way over cooked--mushy even and the entire dish was watered down. We would definitely visit again but would not order the seafood pasta or scampi pasta again. read more

Atmosphere is average if you like the old building look. Chairs were "rickety". Service was timely and somewhat friendly. There were 4 in our party. Meals came out quickly, probably in the 10-15 minute range. Food quality was good, not great but good. The fried dill pickles were good and not greasy. Overall, a good dining experience, a little too pricey for the atmosphere. My fish plate was in the $20 range. We'll go back on occasion to eat with friends. Been to Genna Benna's several times. They have lunch specials depending on the day of the week. Pretty decent menu overall, with enough variety to satisfy most anyone's tastes. Had to call from the front desk for someone to seat us several times. Sticky floors made squeaking sounds while walking to the table, which was also nastily sticky. Music is one of the Sirius XM Classic Rock stations, not really a great background for a relaxing meal. If they were to take care of these little things, then I would certainly rate it much higher. read more
