a variety of sushi and other food items

Situated in Parkgate plaza, it's a quaint family run restaurant. Service was similar to sushi California, have to flag our server down for service. Their take out is also very convenient since COVID happened. Everything is always fresh and on point. The prices are a bit higher than sushi California, but given they're one of three Japanese restaurants on this side of town, I think it's justifiable. I like their sashimi salad, their sauce is a bit spicy. Prawn tempura is also very crispy and tender shrimp, even when we got it home. Rolls were good portions too, and nigiri sushi was on point. Overall a nice option for this area of town.

I was visiting back in North Vancouver and went to Genji for my first time. I'm so glad I came here. Everything exceeded my expectations. They have nice instrumental music playing, individual booths for an intimate private dining experience, The service was very fast and the quality of the sushi was excellent. I know the quality of a sushi restaurant the moment I see their ginger. If they have pink ginger I know that typically, the sushi isn't as good. The white ginger on the other hand is the better quality and this place has the white ginger. Here are the four rolls I tried: Dynamite: prawn tempura, avocado, and crab meat. This was different than a typical dynamite roll that I'm used to. Nonetheless there is a lot of rice and it was still good. Spencer Roll: prawn, crab meat and special sauce. This was my favorite role! It was so yummy and I loved the sauce. B.C roll: salmon skin, cucumber with sauce. The skin was kind of chewy and the texture was different but a decent roll. Baked Scalp: California roll with scallop on top and baked to perfection. This was a wonderful tasting roll. It was a lot of goodness my mouth. Definitely come here if you were in the Deepcove/North Vancouver area! Worth your while for sure.

I'm struggling to work out if I like this place. The sushi is great and when I'm with a certain group of friends the service is amazing. However, other times the service is terrible. you get ignored, spoken too rudely. It's interesting. Yesterday I had a don bowl that was light on vegetables. I think I prefer Deep Cove sushi, even though parking is frustrating and it's a little more expensive.

So even though I went to an izakaya place for lunch, it didn't satisfy my sushi craving so I had to grab some for dinner. Since Genji is two blocks away from home and it was closed on the long weekend when I tried to grab takeout, it was the easiest choice. The boyfriend ordered a few rolls and said they were pretty decent, although the spicy tuna was way too spicy for his liking. I used to love spicy tuna rolls (or any spicy roll) but now I tend to stay away as I feel that the spice takes away the natural flavours of the fish, however I have tried genji's spicy tuna rolls a few times and I have to say, their spicy sauce is a lot stronger than other places. Much too overpowering. I ordered the temaki combo ($8.95) which consisted of dynamite, spicy tuna and spicy chopped scallop cones, but I asked for non spicy. I'm a huge fan as it's such a cheap meal and the three cones definitely fill me up. All three cones also are highly satisfying and taste pretty good. I typically like places that chop their scallop up more finely (that's just a personal preference) but Genji chops it way too fine and I could barely pick up the pieces with my chopstick so that's one part I didn't necessarily love. My 2 pieces of chopped scallop nigiri were really small and kind of disappointing for $2.25 each. The pieces were slightly thicker than maki rolls and the chopped scallop portion was minimal. Wouldn't order this again. Satisfying enough for a cheap dinner so I'm happy.

Delicious! This is the best sushi I've had in North Vancouver. Beautiful presentation, fresh ingredients and friendly service. I brought my 3 year old daughter and they even sliced the rolls extra thin to accommodate her. We ordered tempura udon, Hawaiian roll with tuna tataki on top, miso soup and California roll.

Look at the size of that.

Service isn't great, and the fish quality is bad. Cooked meat (like beef teryaki) is decent.

This restaurant has wonderful food but is so short staffed that it takes away from the overall experience.

I was really looking forward to the sushi here, but was quite disappointed. I tried the: Chopped scallop cone (2/5) - the price of $7.50 is more than most other mainland Vancouver spots, but with subpar quality of scallops (it had more of a rougher texture compared to the smooth and buttery scallops I'm used to), slightly overcooked and too much rice, and the seaweed that was wrapped around wasn't fresh or crisp. Aburi Crispy Holic with chopped scallops (2/5) - the price was not listed on the menu and it came out to be the MOST expensive roll compared to the other menu rolls at $18.50. It has deep fried crunchy rice topped with a mediocre amount of chopped scallops, jalepeno and with copious sauces that was just too overwhelming. Ratio wise was off with way too much rice. Mango Smoked salmon avocado (2.5/5) - loosely rolled so it fell apart easily, mango was sweet and very soft almost mushy, and again too generous with the sauces If I had to come back...I heard the grouse mountain roll and jay's roll were a fan-favourite and I'll give those a go instead.

On this visit my daughter ordered a Dynamite Roll while I ordered an Avokappa Cone for myself and then shared a Crispy Avocado & a Mango Avocado Roll with her. The Crispy Avocado Roll was the one thing that was kinda "meh" this time. It was indeed crispy as the title indicated, and very hot inside. After biting into it though...it was an interesting experience but not something I need to experience again. Everything else was awesome as usual. I especially enjoyed the Mango Avocado Roll. My sister in law had a plain Avocado roll that looked very nicely made. I think I might go for one of those next time! From where we were sitting we could see stacks and stacks of Avocado boxes. I'd never really thought about how much avocado a restaurant might need to keep themselves stocked with. It was interesting to see so many boxes of avocados. I wonder how they manage to keep so many avocadoes from turning brown. The avocado in our sushi was such a lovely, green colour.

Sushi pizza. Lacked coverage and overall presentation. Also no avocado and skimpy on the crab base. Just a fail in my opinion
