4.5 star elevated Korean in an elegant setting Sitting atop a car dealership, Genesis House is located on the corner of 10 ave and 13 st. The signage is pretty minimal and choosing which way to enter can be confusing. I came through the 10 ave entrance and was greeted by gracious staff and some signage next to glass double doors. We were escorted upstairs via elevator and entered a beautifully modern & tastefully Korean inspired interior. The tea salon's "ceiling" mimics the roof tiles and structure of traditional Korean homes. The H shape of the "tiles" is a nod to Hyundai I assume and the staff attitude appeared to be modernized hanbok. Dining area had similar feel with open shelving emulating a Korean still life painting style called chaekgado roughly translating to books and things. I personally appreciated all the thought put into each detail as a Korean but can imagine it being appreciated by a non-native as well. Needless to say, interior design was on point. Service was very attentive and courteous and explanations were helpful. Depth of introduction to the dishes dwindled towards the end though perhaps due to more junior staff (small nit) at the end but did not ruin the dining experience. We ordered the dinner tasting menu. All courses were top notch with generous portions. My favorites were the amuse bouche, hwe, and soup broth in the bonsik. The broth is I want to put this in my tumbler and carry it around to sip in the morning good (iykyk). We also got some extras since it was a special occasion and man were we full by the end of this. Tldr - Do yourself a favor and make a res here for the tasting menu. Remember to wear the stretchy pants or empire waist dress and buckle in for a food adventure ;P
This place totally caught me off guard. I showed up to the address, saw a car dealership, and was genuinely confused (clearly not a car person ). But then you head upstairs to the second floor and--WOW. The space is stunning. Calm, refined, and beautifully designed in a way that immediately makes it feel like an elevated dining experience. The views of the water and Little Island are such a nice touch, and the acoustics are surprisingly great for a space like this--nothing feels loud or chaotic. The staff was incredibly kind and very quick to pick up on when we needed something without being overbearing, which made the whole experience feel even more seamless. The food definitely holds its own. I tried the lunch special, which was delicious and a great way to sample a variety of sides without breaking the bank. I also ordered their hot tea cocktail--so good and honestly big enough to share between two people. I already know I want to come back and try their high tea experience. Bonus: the cars downstairs are gorgeous, and you can even test drive them if that's your thing.
Came here for dinner and found a minimalist-take on a gorgeous space, with zen-inspired minimalism complemented with architectural craft and a photo-ready tea room. Genesis House delivered expert hosting and kind service but irredeemable food. I left dumbfounded. Not sure about the tasting menu, but based on our a la carte experience I would not come back... Order: - The veggies were repulsive -- like something you'd get from a burger joint drive through after 3am -- save for the stuffed perilla leaf. (1/5) - I would not be surprised if the seaweed chips were from a shelf-stable bag (2/5) - The cured cod was fairly good, but at this point I think I was mostly looking for anything to cling onto and found some solace here. (3.5/5) - The scotch soju drink was the most redeemable item (4.5/5) The service was a wash of range. The host was great, at the end we got some complementary wine, but the service between was terrible (no menu for a while, had to hail servers for more water, etc...)
We recently celebrated a birthday at Genesis House and had an incredible experience from start to finish. The aesthetic is absolutely on point. I can see how the entrance might throw some people off since it's located inside what appears to be a dealership, but considering Genesis is a Korean automotive company, it was exactly what I expected. Honestly, it doesn't even feel like a typical dealership. The space is sleek, sophisticated, and beautifully minimalistic, which I personally loved. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a warm welcome and escorted to an elevator that took us directly to the host stand. Every staff member we encountered was genuinely friendly and welcoming. Before dinner, we spent some time in the tea room, which was a wonderful experience on its own. We were able to relax, take our time, and enjoy the atmosphere. Even though other guests were dining nearby behind the bookshelves, the space felt surprisingly intimate and private. Our server, Min, was exceptional from the very beginning. They encouraged us to take our time, carefully explained the tea and beverage offerings, walked us through the tasting menu, and made thoughtful recommendations. Their knowledge and passion were evident, and they explained everything in a way that made us feel comfortable and excited rather than intimidated by unfamiliar Korean dishes or cultural references. We opted for the tasting menu, and the pacing was flawless. Nothing felt rushed, yet there was never an awkward wait between courses. One detail that really stood out was the attentiveness of the staff. This may not be something everyone notices, but our water glasses were refilled every time they reached about halfway. We never had to ask for anything. The three staff members who assisted us throughout the evening were incredibly attentive and anticipated our needs before we even realized them ourselves. We were seated by the window just behind the tea room, and it turned out to be the perfect spot. We were having such a wonderful time that the three-plus hours we spent there flew by. This was our first Korean-inspired tasting menu experience, and while there were one or two dishes that weren't necessarily our preferred flavor profiles, every course was beautifully presented and full of vibrant flavors. I genuinely enjoyed the entire menu, especially the duck, which was outstanding. And I'm still not finished raving about this place. The desserts were fantastic. To celebrate the birthday, they served a slice of Basque cheesecake for the birthday, and our server also brought out a dessert cart, making the occasion feel even more special and memorable. It was such a thoughtful touch. I truly can't say enough about how amazing Min was throughout the evening. They were attentive, knowledgeable, warm, and genuinely contributed to making our celebration unforgettable. Thank you to the entire team at Genesis House for making my forever partner's birthday celebration such a memorable experience. We can't wait to return.
Visited this spot with my family over Thanksgiving weekend! Some features: - The ground floor has genesis cars on display. - Upper level has the restaurant. - Lower level has an art exhibition. - The restaurant had a lot of natural light coming in which I enjoyed. I thought it would be a small menu but they had a handful of options on the menu. We first ordered tea (GAM-IP CHA, YASAENG SUGUK-IP CHA, and one of the SEJAK teas. I don't remember) which comes in a small teapot and matching cup. All the teas were nicely brewed and came in the perfect temperate. The remove the tea leaves before bringing it to you. We also ordered 구절판 which is a plate with 9 different fillings/toppings with a wheat wrap in the center. You wrap it up and eat it like a spring roll. Kings ate good back in the day haha. We then proceeded to order two desserts: HAECHO & SSAL. It was my first time trying both of these flavors in a dessert format. I was slightly hesitant to try due to sensitive stomach but I had no issues! i also really enjoyed both desserts and they weren't overly sweet as well! All the workers were nice and attentive! I highly suggest this place for someone looking to experience something new!
Genesis House delivers a refined dining experience with a serene, beautifully designed space that feels distinctly elevated. Ambience (5/5): Stunning, modern, and tranquil -- the space alone is worth the visit. Food (4/5): The lunch set was excellent, thoughtfully prepared, and well-balanced. Value (3/5): Slightly pricey for what you get -- you're paying for the experience and atmosphere. Service (4/5): Attentive and professional without being intrusive.
What an experience! Talk about the total package - this place has it all. If you aren't familiar with the Genesis House (i.e. me, despite walking past by many times), the lobby is the showroom for Genesis, the basement has the special exhibition throughout the year, and the 2nd floor is the dining room. If you have a dinner reservation here, you can visit the exhibition before or after the meal. Jose, our friendly host, helped us with navigating the planning. The menu features a tasting menu and à la carte. For a restaurant that deserves a Michelin star, it is truly a gem to discover a very reasonably priced tasting menu. Since the four of us aren't particularly hungry, we ordered a bunch from à la carte to share. Our server, Patrick, was great at recommendations - beef tartare (order with the lotus chips), rice cake, pork noodles (daeji guksu), and short rib (tteokgalbi). Not only were the dishes beautifully presented, despite the simplicity of the name, each dish was carefully executed with traditional Korean cooking while adding a modern twist to it. While not typically a fan of short rib, turning it into a meatball was very tasty. The beverage menu was very fun too! We had the k-town soju pear + perilla (tasty and sweet), Hanbang (balanced), and two different kinds of makgeolli (try mixing both into one special kind). The service was outstanding! Our water glass was never empty, the service was attentive but not overwhelming. We had a wonderful 5-year anniversary celebration with our family at Genesis House. We will return for the tasting menu next time!
When you take 재벌 culture and import it to New York, it somehow comes across as more new money than anything. Hence, I'm not sure a restaurant above a luxury car dealership will achieve the same vibe on 14th Street that it might have in 압구정. As Emily in Paris would say, c'est un peu ringard. But putting that aside, I was pretty satisfied with the cuisine here. I opted for the 5 course vegetarian tasting menu - my absolute favorite was the house made tomato 쌈장 served with a trumpet mushroom steak - along with some apple kimchi, it was phenomenal paired with rice as the main course. I also absolutely loved the 죽 with lotus seeds - such a comforting dish that yet packed a ton of flavor. Some of the other appetizers were a bit less successful. The steamed zucchini had a beautiful presentation and interesting texture, but the smoky eggplant chutney didn't save it from some level of blandness. The amuse-bouche of lotus and nori chips was also unimpressive.
Who knew a car company runs a great Korean restaurant? The building is owned by Genesis, the luxury car division of Hyundai (check out the new models on the ground floor!) Second floor houses a small library, a tea pavilion, an outdoor space, and the restaurant. Place is serene and open. We opted for the tasting menu - it was delicious and we left very full. À la carte option also available. Service was top notch.
This review is for the immersive exhibit being held in one of the rooms of the Genesis House. The immersive exhibit was inspired by the infinite power of nature in partnership with Gwyneth Paltrow. Actual live flowers were used in the exhibit. I enjoyed the moving lilies and the sereneness of the exhibit. Street and lot parking.
Love the ambiance, pretty good service, but definitely very overpriced.. We were seated right away but we were given the wrong drink menu which was a little sad because we took awhile to finally decide on our drinks, only to find out they were not available ): our server was still very friendly and nice! All the food portion was smaller than expected, but the presentation is top-tier. It might be better to come during lunch or for the floor sit-down area for some tea time with friends, rather than for a full meal! It would be pretty for a date night though~
The Forest Within. Narrated by Gweneth Paltrow. Discover the forest within. Enter a Korean forest. Reimagined using digital technology. Going on a serene journey. It sounds so calm. So pleasant. Surreal. Right?? Wrong!! Got to the Genesis House. Asked how long was the wait as the line looked long. Twenty minutes was what we were told. And we were in the building within about 25 minutes. What we weren't told was that there was another line in the building and then another line once we were down the stairs. Almost fifty minutes later, we were finally almost pushed through the short exhibit filled with flowers that needed to be changed almost every day and a small bridge mobbed with people and an immersive video. We were out in under six minutes. Definitely not serene. Definitively not worth the wait. Go to the Whitney, the Little Island or High Line instead!
Dinner for two on my birthday. I was intrigued by the concept of the car brand I drive with a restaurant above their showroom. This is no Tesla diner experience. The moment we arrived, there was someone to open the door, someone to take us up to the restaurant and from there to seat us at our table. Service was prompt, friendly and helpful -- I know little about Korean cuisine and found it helpful to ask lots of questions. Each of the dishes were presented exquisitely and the portions were normal, not excessive nor minuscule. The mocktail blew my mind; my wife said it tasted better than her glass of Sancerre, which is high praise indeed! The tea room slash library vibe was novel (to me) and the place feels easy and comfortable, not packed in like sardines. We had a really nice time and would come back again.
Absolutely wowed by the tasting menu. Incredible attention to detail in every bite and drink, felt like a work of art. May seem pricey but you will leave feeling very full! Favorite bites were dry aged duck, galbi wagyu, beef tartare, and seullungtang but every dish was a hit. Cocktails are all very creative around a Korean base. Personal favorites for drinks were the paper plane and a clarified hwachae inspired cocktail. Service is super attentive- my glass never went empty the whole meal. Had a great time listening to each dish's story and explanation. Modern cozy vibe with a great sunset view through the large windows behind the bar. Great for birthday or other celebrations! There was a fun Marilyn Monroe exhibition in the basement and a Genesis car showroom below the restaurant; would recommend coming early to check those out before your meal! read more
We visited Genesis House for the "Manifesting Marilyn: The Making of an Icon" had no idea there were exhibits here. As you walk down the stairs to the exhibit there are people to greet you and discuss the exhibit. If you have any question, just ask away. There were several sections you go through. It's a small area to go through. Nice and cool. Area display Marilyn Monroe books she like to read, phones where you pick up and hear her talk. Get to see her favorite attire as well as photo spread in the various newspapers all about Marilyn Monroe. Had no idea that she was more than a Blonde Bombshell, but that of a woman in business and called the shots. Not only taking roles in comedy but changed her image by taking the roles she wanted. This is what I learned from going through exhibit. She even had her own company. There is also a Korean restaurant upstairs as well as space for events. Will be back for a future exhibit. read more
I went for the lunch meal and it was such a great value. High quality korean cooking and the lunch was very fairly priced ($45) for that amount/quality of food. The different flavors of rice cake were very unique and a very nice starter from the à la carte menu. Outdoors under the umbrellas was very nice especially during the summer, although it can get a bit noisy depending on what is going on on the high line. read more

I've had this place on my list for a while and happened to walk-in on a Friday night with my girl friend, after strolling the highline. We ordered a bottle of makgeolli, a Korean rice wine and some dishes to share. The duck confit bone broth was delicious, with the rice noodles. And the beef dumplings were also so tasty. Service was excellent. We sat at the bar and watched the sunset in the well-designed, calm ambiance of the restaurant. I would definitely return. Added bonus: we checked out the exhibit downstairs which was delightful to the senses. read more
We visited Genesis house again for their newest immersive experience, "The Forest Within," which is narrated by Gwenyth Paltrow. All the trees, flowers, plants, moss are real. It was relaxing and soothing and must have taken so much work to set up. Stay on the bridge for a few moments to see the changes happening in the sky and ground. The line outside was quite long when we arrived but it moved fast so maybe waited 20 mins tops, and 5 mins inside. The experience goes until June 29, 2025, Tues-Sun, 11am-8pm. We looked at the cars on the first floor and were offered to take one out for a test drive, which we sadly declined as that would have been fantastic! read more
We stopped by to see the upstairs tea room but we primarily first stopped by for the free CHROMA: Tales Between Hues exhibit! Everyone was so friendly and I felt like I was transported back to the Mori Digital Museum. I love interactive digital art exhibits so this was such a fun treat and we were able to get some pretty stellar photos. If you get there early there is no line which makes for a nice relaxed exhibit experience. read more
First things first; this review covers both The Forest Within Exhibit and the Genesis House Restaurant. Seeking a new restaurant we hadn't visited, we booked online and arrived 10 minutes ahead of reservation to discover we were at a car showroom. We were ushered downstairs to the Forest Within, where a Thoughtfully laid 100 yard (approx) walk through an animated 360 immersive video played images of lush forest and beautiful volcanic activity played, with large elaborate sets made up of bamboo and hundreds of large flowering peonies. An interesting peaceful and calming, appetizer. Our table wasn't ready when we finally made it upstairs but a beautifully curated library separates the bar area from the cafe and restaurant seating areas. Again, calm, unhurried and peaceful. We considered the five course tasting menu, eventually opting for appetizers - delicious and delicate dumplings, crispy but overly salty seaweed. The steamed cod with a mushroom and anchovy broth was outstanding. Light and seasoned to perfection. Wine pour was stingy, less than a quarter of a glass. Service was initially very attentive, six different team members either refilled glasses of water, bussing, order taking, etc., but tailed off throughout the meal. Pricey on reflection but a decent new experience. read more
We had to try out this restaurant out of curiosity! They have a really catchy and gracious name, and I'm a big fan of their cars. I even considered getting an EV GV60, but I'll save that story for another time. We were seated without much of a wait and this was with a last-minute reservation. The service was great and accommodating. This restaurant was above a Genesis car dealership by the Hudson River in the Chelsea neighborhood of NYC, and its interior and ambience were dimly lit and very elegant. I can imagine coming here on a date or for a night out with friends. Right after you exit the elevator, you were greeted by an impressive bar. However, the portion size was small for the price we were charged, but it was enough to satisfy us. The taste and flavors were good, and we wanted more, but we had drinks before dinner, so didn't order dessert. I would come back just for a drink at the bar and to take in the views of the city skyline and river. Please pray for Korea!! read more
Beautiful pop up real forest with flowers. You get to see Genesis house where they have the Genesis car line but you also have food on a different floor as well as you will see downstairs is a floral and forest exhibit. It is free and we didn't really wait much online more than five minutes. And you're allowed to take pictures even with the flash and the flowers and the bamboo and The tree trees are all real and beautiful. And there's a beautiful natural smell of floral and tree life. read more
Did not go for food. Boutique experience with their multi-story space with a showroom floor on ground level and a flower exhibit in partnership with Gwenyth Paltrow titled The Forest Within. It's a very neat exhibit using a combination of actual floral growths combined with a digital experience of other floral arrangements appearing throughout. The line for this temporary exhibit is currently quite long so be patient, the actual experience walking through this small exhibit is about less than 5 minutes. The staff here have been doing a great job organizing the lines and keeping a level of premiumness as is fitting to the Genesis brand. read more

We went here to celebrate a birthday. Amazing place to sit for long and enjoy Korean food. They also have Korean tea tasting. The food was good but comes in very small portions. The desserts were delicious and very unique - we ended up ordering all the desserts and they were all equally amazing. Service is great, the staff is knowledgeable and hospitable. Overall great place for lunch/ brunch with good ambiance. read more

I did the branzino set and it was great for lunch, it's $45 but the quality is good and enough for a quicker bite. Not heavy highly recco if you are in the area and want an elevated nice space to be in or for meetings. The music is super light too which is nice. After I ate I wanted to go to the lounge spot to sit but they had it closed for some reason which kinda sucked cause that is one of the benefits of it being there so that's why I give 4 stars. read more

Service was impeccable, the ambiance was very nice, quiet and elevated feel, and the food was great. Would recommend but just note it is a little pricey and you have to know what to order. The desserts were all fantastic! read more
Really beautiful and peaceful space. They have tea ceremony space as well! The decor and everything was really lovely. The menu was delicious. We did a set menu. Our server was very knowledgeable when we were uncertain what to order. Overall I would go back. read more

Interesting place -- it's on top of the car dealership (makes sense per the name). Coming from a heavily Korean town with lots of amazing authentic Korean food... this felt very over priced. There wasn't a lot of experimentation, but the classics weren't done as well as your local hole in the wall establishment. Plating was amazing and everything still tasted good, but for the price, I was expecting some twists and more adventurous ingredients/flavors. However, I will say it is a great place for business dinners or impressing out of towners that are NOT from the nyc/tristate area. read more

Wanted to try this place since last year, and finally pay a visit while they still have their bloomtanica event we're still there. Interior looks like a library, centered with a small space for reading , guess it's unique and trendy in Korea ? They have an outdoor space like their backyard. They have window with the waterfront view! So cute for a casual day with your girl friends. I don't feel it's an exact romantic place for a formal date, but this is very personal, check out the picture and decide your own. Cocktails were all yummy, lighter side, very cute! Perfect for the gram! We came here during lunch time, the sashimi dish was just ok, pretty light on taste, but it's good during a hot day, not satisfied enough when you are hungry. Wagyu dumplings were great! Fried chicken was on point, crispy, sweet Glass noodle was ok, light taste for me but my friend think it's good. Banana milk ice cream was yummy! Good to share! Service was great everyone was nice and explain each item very well to us! read more
Beautiful space that you feel like you are in a zen library away from the city. Sunset view is nice as well. We tried a good amount of dishes, questionable. Can't really tell what I was eating besides those that has strong flavor (grilled chicken in gochujang or kimchi). Overall mediocre. Orders 3 dessert and they all have the dry texture that they are about to expire. Cocktails were questionable as well.. read more
Great spot! The servers are way too serious as if they are going to get punished for smiling, not sure what the deal was. The place is super neat and QUIET! I feel like every crunchy sound in my mouth can be heard by others. The place is super beautiful and the food is delicious! read more

Interested to see the art and also eat something but are there vegan options?Menue is not clear. It seems some items might be Plantbased but hard to tell
Can you just do drinks at night? Or is food required?
I went early evening (around 5-7 PM) and we just got tea and snacks! There were tables slightly apart from the regular dining tables where people were ordering full meals.
Better to make a reservation at the bar or dining table?
I would recommend a table. There's very few and the service is amazing. Our server opening night had been training 4 months for the position. All of the wait staff and support staff were super high quality. Get a table, enjoy the experience.
Is it ok to go during the day for just tea & desserts?
Yes, they serve coffee and Korean teas throughout the day.
How much was the tasting course menu and do they have a la carte?
They offer a la carte. Forgot the tasting menu price but I think I saw the tasting menu paired with wine was around 165.
