I had what should have been a straightforward repair after a deer hit my front fender. Based on a recommendation, I brought my truck to Gene's. The job involved replacing the fender, side mirror, and polishing the driver's side window. I was initially told it would take about a week. After 7-8 days, I called and was told it would be another day, which was fine. I picked up the truck after getting the call that it was ready, but I was in a rush and it was parked in the shade, so I didn't catch everything right away. Almost immediately after leaving, I noticed the window hadn't been polished as discussed, and the replacement side mirror was loose and bounced while driving--unlike the original OEM mirror. The next day, more issues became obvious. The headlight didn't fit properly against the new fender (there was a large gap), and the "Tacoma" badge was missing. I contacted them, and to their credit, they agreed to fix the issues. However, that meant another appointment, several more days without my truck, and another rental. When I got it back again, it looked better--but this is work that should have been done correctly the first time. Afterward, I noticed the paint blending was poorly done and doesn't match well at all in sunlight. At that point, I chose not to go back again, but it pisses me off every time I see it. To top it off, when I later replaced my headlights, I discovered a mounting screw was never reinstalled on the driver's side. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience with multiple oversights, extra time and inconvenience, and workmanship that didn't meet expectations. I can't recommend this shop. Really bummed, as this place has good reviews. I must have gotten a beginner working on my truck :( Just a shoddy job. read more

I usually never post reviews, but this one I couldn't resist. From the day I called to my arrival, customer service was outstanding!! I made an appointment to receive a quote for my daughter's car window, that someone tried to break into, and to make a long story short, they had the part in stock (which wasn't guaranteed) and got to work on the car right away. Everyone was super friendly, especially Lisa and Jason!! Gene's Import Auto Body did great job with complicated repairs when an uninsured pickup truck slammed into my new Mercedes Benz S580. My repairs involved body work and electrical wiring repairs. I took my car in for a hit and run, dropped it off and everything went smoothly. I picked up my car when it was ready, I looked over the car and noticed that there was a run in the paint that dripped down the rocker panel. No big deal, I told them they fixed it. Got my car back the following day, I was on the way to drop off the rental car and noticed that they had scratched my tint. I had the tint done a few weeks before I brought the car to get the body work done. I also, noticed they had over-sprayed my seats and on my door seals(there was paint on the seats and the door seals). Also, greasy finger prints all over the headliner. I was able to get this fixed also no big deal. Also, new problem has happened they removed my door panel to do the body work and now my door rattles every time, I listen to loud music. I didn't give them a chance to fix this because I don't want them touching my car anymore. They charged me for the door clips but never replaced them. Pretty much just pay attention to the details because they have no quality control whatsoever. read more

I stopped in on the recommendation of another friend in car industry to see if these guys would have a part needed to attach the front fender shield on my Honda. I spoke with Brad, and he said why don't we just take care of it for you. They took my car in right away, even took car of another part for me, and I was all set in 30 minutes! They took it in on a Tuesday and said it would be complete on Thursday late, or Friday the same week and they were good on their word at a fair price. I came in to get an estimate for scratches on my car, and was charged $50 for an estimate. I have never been charged for an estimate, let alone that much for something that should only take 10 minutes. When I received my estimate, they added on unnecessary work and told me that it was required when I asked about it. However, none of the other places I got estimates from added half of what they did. Overall felt like a scam and trying to milk as much money out of me as possible. read more

Impressive! Gene's repaired the bumper on my Porsche 911 after a minor parking lot accident. It now looks like new and the paint job is factory level quality. The lady that answers the phone is nice enough, but the people managing your cars service are rude and seem to think it's cool to be pompous to their customers. Won't ever try to work with them again. Needed a replacement windshield for my Tesla Model 3 and they were the only ones that Tesla recommended in the area. Called them and their estimator took a week to even provide an estimate. He seemed eager to please and we initially had good communication. Whatever, I figured they were busy so that was fine. But I immediately gave them the "go ahead". Got zero response. Sent him several emails and just got terse replies that they were very busy and "do 4-6 windshields a week" which I guess overwhelms them. I then started politely calling just to get an ETA for an install appointment and even though the estimator promised to call me back each afternoon with the info he NEVER did. By the end it was clear that he had no intention of following-through. So I went to Alan's Auto Glass and they were great. I get the fact that they are a body shop first and that's their priority. But the estimator was extremely unprofessional in his lack of response and clearly didn't want my business. It's been 3 weeks since I've tried to contact them, and ZERO response from them. If the estimator wanted to get rid of me and avoid replacing a Tesla windshield, it worked. Might be great at body work, but if you need auto glass DON'T call them. read more

Took a few weeks for the repair to be completed due to slow delivery of supplies by the car manufacturer. Absolutely terrible communication. Called on the 19th to schedule appointment for insurance estimate on my Model Y after being rear ended in a hit and run. Although damage appeared to be cosmetic, would have it towed in just in case because several sensors had gone off. Made the appointment for the 25th. Emailed my insurance company estimate over so they could review, along with a narrative of my concerns. Called on the 21st to confirm appointment. The girl was very nice and remembered speaking with me and couldn't understand why it wasn't in the computer but set it up and confirmed appointment for the 25th. Car got towed in on the 25th and I filled out the intake forms and dropped off another copy of the insurance estimate. Still hadn't heard anything at all from the shop by the 28th, so emailed Reynaldo. Several hours later he replied that he was out of the office and would get back to me the next day. By 4:30 on the 29th ( the 5th day they have had the car) still no word, so we called. First, Reynaldo lied to my husband and said he had emailed me an update. Then he was just rude, saying that he didn't even know why the car was there, that no one had looked at it yet, that our insurance company was terrible, and that repairs could take 3-4 months. He could not even tell us when the car would be looked at. There was no understanding that we couldn't be without the car for that long, and no sense that he was interested in providing even a base level of communication or service. We chose to pick up the car and have it serviced elsewhere. Hands down my worst ever experience with an auto shop. (btw- our insurance company has been amazing throughout this process - friendly, responses helpful!) read more

Had a small issue where our Tesla lowered it's suspension while parked over a cub and wound up ripping the front bumper cover off the car. Gene's Import was great. Worked with Gary. He worked with me over the internet to submit pictures of the damage, ordered the parts and had everything ready as scheduled. I dropped off the car and they gave me a free ride back to my house. Great communication throughout the process with daily updates (Even though it only took 2 days in the shop) Cost was lower than insurance estimate, so my $1000 deductible only wound up costing me $340. Returned the car clean and were all super courteous. Super appreciated. I hope I won't be back, lol, but if I need to be, I know where to go! Thanks! read more

I am very disappointed in this shop. I took my car here for an insurance job. I did a walk-through and made it very clear what I needed fixed. Not only did they not call me to tell me they weren't fixing it. They didn't call me with an estimate or even to let me know they weren't fixingThey gave me no notice that my car was ready right now. Not a good place I would never recommend this place and I will never go back. If I could write them a zero on three different categories I would. Zero for customer service, zero for the work done that was requested zero for communication. I would like to update my review. I was called and told they were very busy. I needed the driver's seat on my 'new' used car adjusted to accommodate my physical needs. I found myself canvassing numerous auto body and fabrication shops on the Peninsula. At the end of my rope I checked in with Gene's and spoke with the owner Brad. He looked at the job and with little deliberation accepted the challenge and quoted me a very fair price. I dropped it off this morning and just now accepted delivery with the car fully functional for my needs. Thank you to Brad, his father Jerry and the front end representative Antonio. These guys are fully deserving of a five star review. As the father of two boys who lived through the experience of their learning to drive, I came to know the fellas at the local auto body shop in Reno where we used to live. Recently, now that we live in the Monterey area, I had a come close encounters a an abrasive nature in backing up the car in a construction zone. I compounded this by not moving my car far enough into the garage when I closed the garage door. What a knucklehead I am! I took it into Gene's on a Monday and by Friday after lunch they had fixed everything. The car looks great. In addition, they cleaned the car inside and out. The best part was that it was not expensive--less than what I was expecting based on my auto body experiences in Reno. I hope we only meet now on socially but if I have any problems in this regard in the future, this is the only place I will consider going. read more

A tree fell on my Tesla. Insurance covered me. Had to find a Tesla certified shop. Only had a Gene's or a body shop in Santa Cruz (or a few others in the bay area if i wanted to go further). Decided to check out Gene's since it was close by. Dropped by and I ended up meeting with Reynaldo for an estimate. Reynaldo was awesome from the beginning. He was legitimately the reason I decided to trust Gene's from the get-go and not really look into any other body shops. I could tell he was professional, honest and hard working- I'm a recruiter and have a sales background as well; so I feel confident in saying I've developed a great instinct for reading people. Reynaldo gave me some great info/advice from the beginning. He checked out the car and was very detailed. He then requested I take back the car after i had it washed so that he could really take a look at the little details that would need to be fixed; he even accommodated and let me go in on a Saturday. He took care of me from the beginning. From there on out, he was frequently emailing me and calling me with updates about my car/parts and estimated dates for parts and to take it in. I never really had to call him because he was always on top of it. The few times that i did call, he was always happy to help and had answers for me immediately or if not, he would get back to me very quickly. He took care of talking to the insurance and fought for me a number of times to make sure the insurance took care of everything. After finally getting the car worked on, Reynaldo happily walked me through final inspection of the vehicle- it all looked great. I took it home and ended up finding a few things I wanted to get fixed. I called Reynaldo right away and he set things up to get them fixed and squared away. He pretty much took care of me all over again. I even took it back a second time for some issues with headlights. He accommodated me again on a Saturday. At the end of the day, I've been very happy with Gene's. Reynaldo in particular has pretty much been the only one I've had to deal with and hes always been on top of his game. I'm almost selling him short on how much he helped me out. If you get Reynaldo as your estimator, he will take care of you! I brought my 1991 Porsche 964 there today to get new headlight trim rings painted and installed. The owner took personal interest in my car and found a way to make the current trim rings fit properly, saving me money. Two other shops could not figure this out. He also renewed the windshield gasket, cleaning off the dried, residue from old rubber treatments and making it fit properly and looking like new. I was planning on having a new gasket placed. No more! You know that a business is passionate about their customers when the owner goes out of his way to do what is right even though it means that they make less money. I'm very happy with how my car turned out and I will be taking all my vehicles to them for any needed paint and body work. read more

I had a little mishap on a specialty car having to take care of it myself with no insurance involved. I had needed bodywork to be done before but this shop is out-of-this-world good, honestly. From the "boss/owner" Brad to the manager Jared, the coordinator Catherine, the painters, and above all, Hai, the body "surgeon" specialist, they not only did incredibly good quality work but were responsive in communicating and taking care if my needs.
