We're staying in the Sebago area. And I noticed Gemme's not too far from our house. We hosted a family gathering, and I was able to pro order their cinnamon rolls and Whoopi pies for pickup. They are HUGE. Seriously though, the Whoopi pie is like 5in in diameter. When we arrived, the owner was cooking at the breakfast bar AND manning the checkout counter. He was working hard. I've been enjoying Gemme's candy selection since I was a very, very young child - and I still enjoy it to this very day, albeit I don't eat much candy & come mostly for the food & beverages. Gemme's truly is just that - a gem, it's an owner operated (and he's such a friendly guy) food, beverage, and everything in between type store & I prefer it to any other in the area, and I'll tell you why. The portions are HUGE, and not just huge, good. While the menu isn't exactly long, it checks all the boxes for quick made to order food to get you on your day, or out on the water, back to camp, what have you. My personal go-to here is the chicken tenders - man, what a huge portion the large is haha. The French toast is also wonderful - and with a huge selection of fresh breads & pastries, you really can't go wrong. Besides candy, food & beverages, it's a go-to spot for grabbing summer essentials, there's a LOT of knives for sale, water sports stuff like goggles, squirt guns, etc., as well as clothing like hats, bandanas, sweatshirts, etc. There's also a limited selected of booz. Just an all around everything you can think of type store. When I think back on the 35 summers I've spent on Sebago, I have many wonderful memories of going to Gemme's, especially from mooring on the beach and walking up. Deep in the middle of nowhere... there is Gemme's! I have to say I wasn't expecting much but it blew my expectations out of the water! I don't know where to start... Ok so super close to cottages and campgrounds... a lot within walking distance (I know ours was!) We stopped in a few times over our 3 day visit. So what blew our minds... well they have tons of candy choices along with food and 'necessities' which some were a little over priced but you are out in the middle of nowhere without competition! They got it on lock! Plenty of lake toys to choose from. But where else can you buy brass knuckles (assorted styles), du rags (also assorted styles), any kind of knife you want and some ' glass' all in one place?? Along with delicious baked on site chocolate chip cookies or whoopee pies, or fancy brownies, etc...????? GEMME'S!! I have to Say $3.95 for a cookie was crazy but it was good. Their pizza... good sauce but a little too much cheese! But I like that Gemme's is there for an extra option in Sebago. There is a back patio for eating on site too. It was certainly interesting walking through this location. Also, take a few minutes and read the signs they have posted up. Quite interesting to non Maine folk like my crew! read more

No idea what the hype is all about with this place. Read about the steak and cheese sub being amazing so we gave it a try. Yes, it was huge but that was it. The sub roll was completely soaked with grease and I did not get the onions I asked for plus the steak was not even really chopped up. It was thick slabs like steak um meat with very chewy, gristly parts. I would never order it again and it was way over priced at $15.99. My guys decided to give it another try for breakfast this morning and that wasn't a good experience either. One breakfast sandwich that was requested to be egg whites only and were told they wouldn't do that had yolk that was not even cooked all the way through and was served on Texas toast style bread that was not even toasted. It looked disgusting and my son"s breakfast wasn't any better. $23 in the trash. We won't try again. read more

This place is super convenient if you are staying in East Sebago. It's the only general store around (the prices definitely let you know that) and it surprisingly stays open late. The proprietor sells homemade baked goods including whoopie pies, brownies, and chocolate chip cookies. He also makes a mean pizza pie. Basically, if you don't want to drive to Gorham or Naples, this is going to be your second home in East Sebago. read more

Gemme's is my favorite place to stop at while I'm camping up in the area. Always try to swing by for breakfast on the way home. Can get there via car or boat as it's right on the lake. Small generally store type of place that sells liquor and local beers, but the best part is the food. They serve breakfast and some sandwiches in the store as well as make some of the BEST homemade baked goods you'll ever taste. I'm talking cinnamon rolls that are literally the size of your head, brownies loaded with peanut butter cups, cookies, whoopie pies, etc. all made in house. Breakfast is even the best bang for your buck around. There is a lovely older man always manning the grill, I think he is the owner. Every time I have eaten breakfast there I have never been disappointed. You're always given more than what's on the menu. For example - a special is listed as two eggs, bacon, hash browns and corned beef hash. You'll usually end up with three eggs, and a metric crap ton of all the other food. I love Gemme's. I always look forward to my yearly breakfast there sometimes more than my camping trip. Cute little place that always shows Western movies on the tv. Me and my partner just got done eating there for lunch and it was amazing. He had a large roast beef sandwich and I had a steak and cheese. Amazing little general sore. They have tremendous baked goods, and put out quality food especially the breakfast items. They also sell beer and are reasonably priced for the market. The owners are nice and personable. Definitely worth a stop. We are up here for 2 weeks every summer and stop by at least 10 times. They also sell Giffords ice cream and have great camp fire wood...it is seasoned and not green. read more

A walk back in time! Small, authentic general store with an unexpected surprise bakery! Brought me straight back to my child hood lake vacations. Sells a little bit of everything. Our last night of vacationing on the west side of Sebago and no one wanted to cook. But finding delivery or take out pizza is no easy feat! Someone mentioned Gemme's and with very few options we decided to gamble and test our fate. Weren't we surprised when we walked in to see a little bakery set up with tons of fresh baked loaves of bread, giant pastries, muffins, cinnamon buns and my favorite GIANT Maine whoopie pies!! We picked up our pizza. (I'm more of a thin crust, less cheese pizza fan but this extra cheesy pizza was certainly adequate.) Whoopie pies for dessert. Muffins for breakfast the next morning. Some staples to replace things we used at the house we were staying at (cans of tuna, dishwashing liquid, tinfoil, plastic bags, peanut butter and even a kayak oar! Saved us a trip to the other side of the lake the next morning!) They also do all kinds of sub sandwiches. Wish we had discovered this little hole in the wall at the start of our vacation! read more

Got a sandwich out of the cooler and ordered a steak and cheese and it was $24. They have huge sandwiches but that is ridiculous. Waited at least 20 minutes and then the lady at the register put my sandwich in someone elses bag. Lucky the other customers realized and told her it wasn't their sandwich. The cashier was totally rude about it to them and me (and everyone else in line) and on top of it all the steak on my sandwich was super overcooked and tough. Gemmes is right on the lake so it's a convenient stop off point when boating. They make a nice standard breakfast. We had 2 eggs scrambled with toast. The cinnamon raisin toast is quite tasty. They give big portions. The coffee is average. They also are a good place to pick up a sandwich either pre-made or while you wait. While the food is basic the quality is reliable. This is a great little store that is nice and close to where we rent for a week in the summer. It's a great place to pick up things you may need without having to drive to a larger store (Beer, Ice, bread etc), but also has some great items you can only find at a place like this (throwback candy). We haven't tried any of their prepared foods (yet) but the bakery items are fabulous, especially the whoopee pies! Huge and so yummy. One will last for a couple of days, it's like a small cake. read more
