OVER $2,500 IN DAMAGES, ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY, DEEPLY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! If I were permitted to give zero stars, I would do so without hesitation. I brought eight valuable garments to GEM Dry Cleaners, including two custom three-piece suits with Italian fabric and buttons, a $500 long coat, and a $200 suede jacket. Every item was damaged. Buttons were loose, seams were torn, and most upsettingly, and without my consent, they ironed sticker labels directly into the fabric of every piece, leaving permanent, burn-like marks. I was never informed this would happen, nor given the option to use pins--a safer more standard method used by most reputable dry cleaners. When I questioned it, the owner, Bryan McNatt, claimed there were signs. The only one I found was hidden behind the counter, barely visible. Others were small printouts, covered by card readers and equipment. Even Bryan admitted the signs were hard to see, which makes it even more perplexing that nothing was said to me during drop-off. I contacted no one, yet Bryan called me personally at 8 a.m. from his cell phone (which I assume he retrieved from the customer system), yelled at and berated me, and offered a mere $36.45 partial refund for the damage of thousands of dollars worth of items. I did not accept the offer because of how inappropriate it was. I spoke calmly and expressed I wanted to handle this amicably, but he was immediately defensive, dismissive, offensive, and said I must be struggling financially to care about the damage. When I said I may have to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, he told me to do whatever I needed and banned me from returning. The staff were also rude. One employee was visibly wearing a court-issued ankle monitor while working. While everyone deserves employment and second chances, I believe this anecdote unfortunately gives insight into the deeper issue -- a clear lack of professionalism, accountability, respect across the board, and oversight at this business. The garments are permanently damaged, and nothing can undo that. This was one of the most frustrating, heartbreaking experiences I have ever had with a business. I trusted them with irreplaceable items, and they treated me and my concerns with absolute disregard. Please read through the many other similar reviews. I am far from the only one who has experienced destroyed clothing and mistreatment at this establishment. I am sure they will try to twist and make up some way to rebut this, so I have decided to include some of the photographs of the damaged garments and the obscured signage with this review so that others can see the truth for themselves. I have gone to this dry cleaner for 3 years. I've never had a bad experience. The people working behind the counter are always polite and are very helpful. My mom came to town one time and she also had a great experience with them. Even if you are here from out of town, this is the place to go. They are quick, effective, and are a reliable dry cleaner. I'd been reluctant to try this dry cleaners due the reviews, however, so far so good for me! I've dropped off clothes for services 4 times now and have not been disappointed. The young ladies greet me, take my number, my garments & prepayment, and I leave. Nothing more, nothing less! The location is ideal for me and you can't beat "$2.50 for any garment"! 6 dress shirts dropped off with the request of heavy starch. Received all six, sloppily pressed with no starch. Pressed a crease in one them down the back. How hard is it to actually care and pay attention to the job you're paid for these days? The lady offered to redo them, but it would postpone getting them back in timeframe needed. Just not worth the hassle. I'll be driving further and paying more for better quality, care, and service. I know ..., not the decision for everyone, but it's my choice. I recently had my clothes done and paid extra for services, did not receive extra starch and received a call from the manager stating it would be redone. I then went to get clothes after his statement that they would be redone only to find out what I paid for was not done. He called stated it was done with a rude tone. I took this as no customer service and a lack of professionalism. He ended the call with profanity. WILL NOT BE GOING AGAIN TO THIS CLEANERS. Per his suggestion find a new cleaners, I will. Fast, efficient and way cheaper than the competitors. They are always nice to me, however if they weren't I wouldn't have an issue, who cares if you are being smiled at a dry cleaner. Your interaction with the staff is and should short and minimal. Anyhow, I wish these guys stay in business for a long time. I have saved a lot of money using them. I started going to this dry cleaners after seeing how busy they were and learned with the price of every item to dry clean being a little more $2/item saw why they were so busy! At first we were happy with their dry cleaning but my husbands pants started coming back from them with double pleats and broken buttons on his dress shirts. The staff is friendly but if you need your work clothes to be professionally pressed and cleaned you would be better off at another dry cleaners. read more

I recently moved to Brandon FL and was looking for a Dry Cleaner in the area. I am highly allergic to the formaldehyde used in Dry Cleaning so for the past 2-3 years I've starched and ironed everything myself. However, since the move, all of my dress clothes have been wrinkled and needed to be ironed so I called a few and the lady on the phone at GEM was the nicest and they had a really good and competitive price. I dropped off approx 20 articles of clothing to have pressed only and was impressed that it would be ready the next day by 530pm. It infact was ready by 530 pm the next day. However, as I am going through the dress clothes that GEM pressed for me, I am more and more dissapointed. Of the 8 or so dress pants that I had pressed, about 5 of them have double seems. 1 of them has a mismatched seem where it ends at the knee, and a new seem begins down to the end. One pair of my khakis is still very wrinkled, and it will require for me to wash and re-iron. My dress shirts were still sprayed with a hardening chemical, which I specifically asked not to have and they're all wrinkled around the buttons, collars, and cuffs. None of my sleeves have the ironed seem. If I wanted results like this, I could've just done it myself. I wont be coming back here, nor will I recommend it to anyone. read more

I read the other review and I have not sent pants to this cleaners yet. I will and then I'll re-review it. I had a good experience. Maybe I'm "El Cheap-o", but I was not used to pay $2.25 for a normal shirt (the ones that don't need Dry Cleaning but still need ironing), and I thought they were expensive. Their strength is that they charge $2.25 for ANY garment. So I took a couple of jackets and blazers and they did a great job. At any other cleaners I've been to they charge me up to $5 for jackets and sweaters. Then I took some shirts that needed special attention and they came out very decent. They asked me permission to put a permanent bar code sticker on the inside of the shirt because they say that way they don't use paper tags...I bought it and agreed. I can imagine some people wouldn't like that but I'm all about the environment. I've been there three times and they have the clothes ready overnight so It's also a reliable last minute/emergency place. I had to pre-pay. It is not "my cleaners" yet....like in "you gotta take that to my cleaners", but I know I will use them frequently. read more

I Have had great service with these cleaners for years. However they now close early! Even though it says on the door and on their website that they close at 7 PM I rushed to get there and they were closed with the doors locked at 6:53! This is unacceptable! read more

Ive never had an issue with this store. They do a decent job cleaning and pressing your clothes. I have never been disappointed with that! And their cost is only $2.50 an item. Not my favorite dry cleaner, but not the worst either. Since it's close to home I'm here more than any other cleaner I suppose. If they didn't make you pay up front, and if they were a bit friendlier I'd give them another star or two. This is the only dry cleaner I've ever been to that makes you pay when you drop off, and they seem surprised when you're surprised about that. They also attach a label to your clothes so they can track it. This may not be an issue for you, but be forewarned. read more

They lost my clothes. One of the employees said she was all alone, busy and accidentally gave them to someone else. She told me I should just wait and hope they return them. That was a month ago. Today one of the managers said, "it happens." Then the same employee that lost them, accused me of lying (I asked for the manager to call me, this employee said they already had - and was adamant that I wasn't telling the truth). THE WORST!!! If you do not mind having a white barcode heat stamped on your clothing then bring it here. I brought 8 pieces of clothing and they supposedly tell "everyone" that they heat stamp a bar code on your clothes. Well I guess I was the 1% they didn't tell. They heat stamp a white barcode on the actual fabric of your clothing. I just can't believe they will ruin peoples garments this way. Of course I had to complain and whats their answer: "Well we have lawyers, doctors, hight class people and they don't complain. You are the first" Well maybe they don't care, but I DO care! IT CHEAPENS THE GARMENTS, period!. Lets say you bring in a Vince Camuto suit... And someone heat stamps a white bar code on the neck area.... Ummmm I think thats summons everything. The same will apply to a less expensive banana republic suit or similar. The fact that they did not want to acknowledge the fact that someone at some point forgot to tell me or SHOW me that they heat stamp a WHITE bar code onto your clothing's aggravates me. And also telling me to take my clothes somewhere else then, doesn't help your business reputation. Yes they agreed to take the bar codes off but it will leave a permanent shinny mark where the bar code was previously placed. My point is, treat your customers right and if you are altering someones garments in any way, then make sure you tell them about it. If you are the owner reading this review, keep in mind that there will be people who do not like this kind of service and some people who wont mind it at all.. Like the manager said "we have a lot of lawyers, doctors" etc, meaning high income people who doesn't complain. UPDATE They agreed to take the bar codes off. I just picked up the garments and well... I have been using this place about 10 years with no issues. The white barcode thing that people are complaining about is a non-issue. There's a sign that very clearly explains they are going to apply bar codes to your clothes. So I've been coming to this dry cleaner for years. I have to admit I have never had a problem with them that couldn't be resolved. I've been to so many dry cleaners in the past that have ruined clothes and cause me to have the most negative experience and then blame me for my garments for the issues, ultimately caused me more. This family company is totally opposite, they take the initiative and stand by their customer. I took my son's tuxedo to be cleaned for an upcoming prom... it came back looking perfect. If a suit is there by 9:00 am it is ready the same day after 5:00. I also took a couple of tuxedo shirts there... again the pleated shirts came out perfect. The charge of $2.25 is great for a suit, suit pants, tuxedo, blazer or a pleated shirt. It is more than some others charge for a regular business shirt... but what these guys are good for... they are great for. read more

Their service/pricing was fine. However they did not inform me that they would be heat stamping a white barcode on my clothes. I purposely custom order clothes so they have no brands/insignia and having a white bar code heat stamped on my clothes completely defeats that purpose. I've been a patron here since they opened years ago. They do a really good job each time on anything I bring to them. I'm not sure why people are so bothered by the bar codes attached to the clothing or the prepayment for the service. Those two things don't bother me. The ONLY problem I had here was 4 years ago when they lost my son's dress shirt for Homecoming (on the day of Homecoming). The owner couldn't find the shirt and told me I shouldn't have waited until the day of Homecoming to come and pick it up. I'm only mentioning this in the hopes they will find a way to better handle a situation like that if it happens to someone else. However, with the number of items I've brought to them over the past 15+ years, if I've only had one problem, that's pretty good! read more

I do not know how to start this review but start with wow. And not a good wow, a horrible..cant believe my experience wow. I am new to the area, never been to any of the dry cleaners around here. Back where Im from in DC, never have I ever heard of prepaying for your clothes... Like ever! So I walk in... And give them my clothes and told them I am new. They IMMEDIATELY start processing my clothes before I tell them what I need from each thing placing these white things on my shirts. She said they are barcodes to organize it when I come back I don't need to tell them who I am etc. Ok. Whatever. Next... I tell her what I need for each and she wants to charge me $22 to fix the pants I brought in... No, take it off the bill thanks. She rolls her eyes looks at her associate and then proceeds to take off the bill... Then asks for payment for the remaining amount... I said what? Why. She says this is a prepaid facility. I said why where does that say, as I am looking near the cash register where it prob should say it. She points to the window... Im like where, she rudely keeps pointing to window then rolls her eyes and gets off chair and points again to the paint written tiny ass lettering that said prepaid. Sorry when Im driving and parking... Im concentrating on just that driving and parking not your sign.....when you welcome new people first thing one should do is "welcome, this is our process... Were prepaid... Do you have the proper payment before we proceed and ruin your clothes with barcodes". Well that sums up what happened because I didn't have enough cash, or a visa or mastercard. Im one of those who has limited amounts of cash and carry amex. So I had to get my clothes back from the lady who rudely placed my items back on the hangers and gave me evil eyes the whole time... And I had a baby in my arms wiggling the whole time. This was such a time waster and now I have bar codes on these items and I don't plan to go back ever. If your going to be prepaid... Fine... But stress it in the beginning and make sure to accept all different cards and tell your customers asap when they walk in. Time waster!!! read more

I am very disappointed on my one and only visit to this business. They ruined my daughter's dress and did not take any responsibility nor make it good of what had happened. They seem to not notice that the dress inner lining is longer than the outer lining. I can' t believe how the lady suggested to bring back the dress to where I bought it from instead of them rectifying the situation. I will never go back there again.
