This is actually a review of the bar. Very comfortable and private seating. Craft cocktails served with excellent service. The snack menu was quite nice. The slider burgers were above par!!

During our stay at the Westin, we dined here several times. The breakfast buffet was included in our room rate. We enjoyed the wide selection including Montreal bagels, a daily omelette option, pastries including croissants, fresh fruit, and cheeses. In the evening, we enjoyed soups including French onion soup and a lighter butternut squash soup. The poutine with smoked meat was enjoyable as were the salads. The staff was attentive and helpful. The ambiance was pleasant and noise levels were low making it easy to have conversations.

The hubby and I were staying at the Westin, so thought wed check out Gazette for a pre drink and small bite to eat before heading out. Sat at the bar. Took sometime to get served. Bartender was friendly. Ordered some moscow mules and falafel . They make a good moscow mule here! Falafels were OK, but were extra crispy to the point where I was scared that the falafel balls would go flying if I stuck my fork in one. The falafels were softer on the inside. Not sure if it was the tahini, but the taste was more on the bitter side. Presentation was nice. Pretty empty on a Saturday during dinner. Not my first choice, but it was OK.

We stayed at Le Westin during our stay and this restaurant is inside. The ambiance inside is great, modern, plenty of seating, clean and spacious. We actually came on our first day when our room wasn't available we were given vouchers for 1 tapa or drink each and we decided to have the poutine and the rice balls in tomato sauce, both were good and were a hearty serving, the poutine had smoked meat on it. On our last day in Montreal we came back but this time for breakfast and it was still a great experience, the food was really good, I had an egg white omelette which came with toast, hash browns and fresh fruit, my wife had pancakes which also came with fresh fruit, the staff was all very friendly and helpful, on our first day our bartender went out of his way to help us find affordable parking that's wasn't too far away from the hotel. It's a shame that I was looking for food all over the place when there was a great place just downstairs, prices aren't too bad for a hotel either. Highly recommend.

The Gazette is located in the Westin hotel in Old Montreal. It's kind of a sleek bar/restaurant but then there's TVs everywhere so not really sure what they're aiming for. They were also playing country music which confused me even more. There's a very long bar and two, also very long narrow community tables. Perfect seating arrangements for maximum patronage which leaves them perfectly equipped to handle the crowds from the Congress centre across the street. I was there for dinner and it was nice and quiet. I think it would be fair to say their motto is 'healthy'. Lots of quinoa on the menu... I had an onion soup which was good but could have been left in the broiler for a few more minutes. Husband had the tuna dish prepared Asian style which he loved. The next time I went in, it was bursting at the seams with the Congress centre crowd and really noisy, however, despite the huge crowd, within a few minutes, three servers came by to ask what I would like to drink. Now that's Impressive!

Nice place for breakfast or a quick bite beforegoing to dinner. Friendly staff and service was good. We had breakfast every morning during our stay at the Westin hotel, it's the convenience of it. Food is your typical continental breakfast (buffet or à la carte). We also had a quick snack before going to dinner. The food was good.

Utterly uninspiring chicken club, with sloppy side Caesar.

I was staying at Le Westin Montréal, a lovely hotel in Vieux-Montréal, so I decided to pop into the hotel's restaurant, Gazette, for a quick bite. What a mistake that was. As I was eating alone, I asked to be seated at the bar. I don't know who thought these particular bar stools were the right choice, since they were way too low with respect to the height of the bar, and I'm pretty tall. Pity the poor woman who was a few stools down from me (and quite a bit shorter from me), whose plate was barely below chin-level. The rather disinterested bartender saw that I had put the menu aside, so he finally came over with nary a greeting, took my order, and off he went. I guess the bartender became even more disinterested when I only ordered a Pellegrino to drink, as I only saw him two more times - once when he delivered my sandwich and once again to hand me the check. I doubt we exchanged more than 20-ish words total. Everything took an exceedingly long time, as others have noted in their own reviews. Let's dissect my order, a chicken club sandwich: One layer instead of the classic two, on a rustic bread that seems to have been toasted earlier today and was soft. Several slices of chicken breast that had just come out of the refrigerator and were ice-cold, not having any real flavor. Condiments served in small Heinz bottles, as if I had ordered room service. The only good thing in that sandwich was the smoked bacon, but it wasn't enough to carry the sandwich. I had a side Caesar that was sloppily plated, hanging out of the side of the bowl in places, and the dressing was just so-so. If you're going to position yourself at a higher price point, everything needs to be done with care, but I just got a sense of general indifference from the staff and from looking at the plate put in front of me. Gazelle probably earns the honor of the worst Westin restaurant I've visited during my many years of travel, given the performance of the front and the back of the house on this particular occasion. I'd dissuade you from visiting yourself. A much, much better option for breakfast or lunch if you're looking to stay 'on property' is steps away and attached to the hotel, namely Les Moulins La Fayette (http://tinyurl.com/les-moulins). I started my mornings here during my stay, and I highly recommend you do the same.

BEST "BYOB" FRENCH BISTRO DURING RECENT TRIP…read more This is the best dining experience in our recent Montreal trip. I'm glad we made reservation since the place was quite packed when we arrived. To be honest, our first impression wasn't too great. We were seated in their main indoor dining area which was a bit too warm. We asked if we can be moved to their fully covered / heated patio area, but unfortunately the restaurant was full. Fast forward 15 minutes, we have placed our order and were enjoying our bottle of wine and a basket of bread. Our server came over and offered to move us to the patio area since a table had opened up. We were pleasantly surprised because (1) we didn't ask again and (2) most restaurants wouldn't change tables once customers started eating/drinking. The restaurant setting is unpretentious with a casual and cozy vibes. The staff are so friendly that we feel like having a family dinner! They offer a pre-fixe menu in which we thoroughly enjoyed! For appetizers, the escargot dish gave us a pleasant surprise. They wrapped the escargots and blue cheese sauce in a thin crispy crust! It's hard to describe, but it's sort of like having an escargot "crepe"! The few main courses we chose were excellent, and the rack of lamb was probably our favorite - tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. As for dessert, their creme brulee was one of the best I've had - creamy custard topped with a perfect, crisp caramel top. I'd highly recommend this place, and will certainly visit again when I'm in town next time!
