A family favourite of ours, the beautiful food and great service in Gaze Ormeau Road keeps us coming back. I've been with larger groups of 6, and sometimes just the two of us. Happily situated directly across the street from the ever-popular Pavillion Bar, Gaze is a little secret on the Ormeau Road, to those of us in the know.
The menu is divided into various cuisines; Chinese, Malaysian, Japanese, Korean and so on. They also have Gaze signature dishes, which are very popular. The restaurant has a 'bring your own' policy, which is great, considering there is an off-licence next door, and it's also a bonus if you are on a budget.
It's a cosy, small little place, with an ambient atmosphere and there is a true buzz of activity from the kitchen, which you can a glimpse of every so often. Because it only seats about 20 people at most, there are times when you must wait for a table, but never for very long, and it's always worth it. The seating is family-style, a little like Wagamama, so you need to be prepared to share your table if its busy.
The food is always gorgeous, the Honey Chilli Chickem, the Malaysian Beef Curry, and the Duck Samosa being particular favourites of mine. But whatever you order - its sure to be gorgeous. The only negative I can offer is that if you're unlucky enough to be sitting near the door - it can be very cold when customers come in and out during the evening. If I could make a suggestion to them it would be to have a porch installed! But this is a minor detail in the scheme of things - they provide takeaway food also. Yum. read more
