The setting is spectacular - this is a large building right on the edge of the River Bann, so ask when you are booking for a window table and you'll have a stunning view as you eat and drink. The interior of the restaurant is just as impressive - a large, high ceiling room with a giant chandelier in the centre. So, what about the food? It certainly lives up to the setting. I would describe this as upmarket Chinese food rather than the kind of place to grab your Friday night sweet and sour. The prices reflect the setting and the quality and for special occasions I am more than happy to pay them. On our last visit I had satay chicken skewers and seaweed, both of which were top notch. I than had shredded chilli beef which I also loved, and the husband had king prawns in yellow bean sauce which I felt obliged to try and also really liked. We had side orders of special fried rice and noodles and I could have eaten either of these on their own. It was quiet when we went because it was early on a weeknight, so there weren't loads of people there, but the place is nicely decorated, with some very large tables for big groups and also catering for smaller groups or pairs too. The food arrived quickly and was satisfying, and they were very obliging about our usual 'awkward vegetarian' (her own words!) and brought her what she asked for - weird though it was. I got my usual king prawn salted chilli with boiled rice and my wife opted for chicken sweet & sour. The prawn dish was excellent. It was a decent portion and it was well flavour balanced between spice & salt. It did not have the acrid burn from those places on Monaghan Street who use dried chilli from jars and unlike these places there was actual fresh red chilli in the dish. It's hard to believe that many Chinese takeaways in town don't add fresh chilli to spicy dishes but have the cheek to charge top prices. The boiled rice too was perfectly cooked. I did not really like their sweet and sour sauce though as it was like a light vinegary gel really so it needs work. I only noticed as I was leaving that they offered dishes line salt & chilli pork chop available in another Chinese Restaurant just down the street so they must have common ownership.

That's my only problem on the odd occasion when one of the Chinese cooks answers the phone (presumably when no local lass is available) they don't understand my order and it ends up with all sorts of stuff left in the dish, or left out. But you can't really fault them if no lass is there to answer the phone. European dishes I find are really tasty indeed, YES I often go for a chicken omelette or sometimes if I'm feeling really adventurous I order a sausage supper with no pea's!
