Wowser, what a restaurant! The Water Margin is right up there on my list of favourite places to…read moreeat, having been there for romantic dinners with the husband before he became the husband and for a very raucous birthday party at which the husband insisted on singing. Before the karoke machine was turned on. The setting is spectacular - this is a large building right on the edge of the River Bann, so ask when you are booking for a window table and you'll have a stunning view as you eat and drink. The interior of the restaurant is just as impressive - a large, high ceiling room with a giant chandelier in the centre. So, what about the food? It certainly lives up to the setting. I would describe this as upmarket Chinese food rather than the kind of place to grab your Friday night sweet and sour. The prices reflect the setting and the quality and for special occasions I am more than happy to pay them. On our last visit I had satay chicken skewers and seaweed, both of which were top notch. I than had shredded chilli beef which I also loved, and the husband had king prawns in yellow bean sauce which I felt obliged to try and also really liked. We had side orders of special fried rice and noodles and I could have eaten either of these on their own. I was pleased to see that there is a tea time special menu at £9.95 for 3 courses which is outstanding value given the quality of food and the lovely service you get. Can't wait until the next time we go back.

Eat here quite a bit and can't complain about anything. The food and service is excellent. I'd…read morerecommend anyone passing through to call in and try it. They do a shoppers special which is great value too

It was pretty busy inside but we were seated quickly and ordered some cokes. The buffet was huge, offering loads of different options so you could really try things that you never had before. Their black bean was nice and as were the ribs! Yum. I managed to go up twice, trying out lots of different things and my brother went a third, as you do! Then we had the nice Ice cream and fruit on offer which finished it all off rather nicely! The food was hot and seemed to be pretty fresh, obviously doing a nice turnover at lunchtime! Not quite as good as China King in Belfast but it's pretty up there.

The idea of an all you can eat buffet ought to work but for me it doesn't really - when there's too…read moremuch choice I somehow don't want anything so end up picking out little morsels of this and that didn't amount to more than I would have eaten anyway. At Kopo were all the usual Chinese options - satay chicken, sweet and sour, chilli chicken, beef and black bean and baby spring rolls and other fried starter like things. I suppose it was a bit late in the evening by then, after 9.30 and the food had got a little cold. The staff were friendly and helpful, even taking trouble to bring more lamb (chops in thick sauce, actually not very Chinese) which had run out when we arrived. Afterwards there was ice cream, with jelly and fruit which was better than the main course. It is also a bring your own bottle place. Somewhere like this needs to be very busy to work, because the food shouldn't sit for long, but Kopo wasn't, although perhaps we were just weren't there at the optimum time.

Well there's usually a story and so it is here. As I'm not very familiar with Chinese takeaways…read morearound Lisburn I texted an old friend for his view. I had tried the Man Lee once and was really underwhelmed and overcharged. My old friend said try the Emperor as his go to place. So we took his advice. Well we got three meals there and one meal from this Thai place. I didn't know it existed and just spotted it as we drove by it and the car radio played Excerpt from a Teenage Opera. Grocer Jack by the wonderful Keith West. We went into the Thai to order one meal and crossed the street to make the remaining food order in the Emperor Chinese. It was a lousy damp, miserable night too and I stood with my mind going 'count the days into years, 82 brings many fears' then I realised the girl on the counter at the Chinese had short changed me and I remedied that. Oh well another day dream shattered with dull reality. So I took the Thai meal - a good portion of tasty Thai prawn crackers - far better than any Chinese prawn crackers. And the Thai crackers came with a tiny pot of punchy sweet chilli sauce. A king prawn red Thai curry and coconut rice - one out of three boiled rice choices, the other two being jasmine and sticky (£6:50). It was a tough choice for a piggy like me. The rice was topped with that really adult delicious salted fried shallots. The liquid red curry portion was generous, it was very tasty but it was runny thin like a soup. The spice heat was just how I like it though. Hot enough to know you are eating it but not so hot as to make it unpleasant. I was delighted to find in it fresh cubed aubergines, butternut squash, carrots and courgettes. How refreshing but the aubergine and squash were near to disintegration by the time we got back to eat it but again I'm not too precious about this. There were six poached king prawns in the dish. So it gets a three star on the strength of this one main dish. I will be back soon enough as I really want to try the fishcakes. Oh nearly forgot there is seating inside. Benches rather than chairs - no expense spent - so a bit like a cheap and cheerful small cantina. One major disappointment for me though: no minced pork dishes available on the menu, yet a good Thai holy basil & dry red chilli pork stir fry is a fabulous dish. How awful it's like a Mc Donald's without any choice of burgers.
