Mandarin City is definitely my favourite Chinese. There, I said it. The highest form of commitment,…read morefor everyone to see. And you can hold me to it if you really want. I know I'm indescisive, but my mind ain't being changed about this any time soon. It's such a nice, big, cosy Chinese restaurant. The staff are super friendly, and like to fling a few sweeties or fortune cookies your way (just be sure to catch them). The food is beautiful (I love their black bean sauce) and the atmosphere is really pleasant; comfortable and relaxing. A few years ago a large group of us (happily accomodated by the friendly waiters without a booking) were out for a friend's birthday and having an absolute blast while we were at it. Unbeknown to us, a sudden, unpredicted and very heavy flurry of snow had been settling outside. I have such fond memories of that night...and I do love snow. I'll let you into a wee secret which i learnt while I was at school in the nearby vicinity. The restaurant opens for takeaway orders between 12 noon and 2pm, and for £2 (it may have gone up slightly since I left) you got either noodles, chips or rice with a sauce of your choice. Bargain. I still love Mandarin City. See, I told you so.

That being said it is very popular and is always packed whenever I've been there, but I do not really understand why. I think their food is Ok, but just Ok. Every-time I have eaten there my belly is definitely satisfied with the food but I always find that I didn't really enjoy it what I had and I always feel it is a little overpriced when It comes time to pay. I would only really go here if I was with friends who wanted to go. I don't think it really compares on a flavor factor with other chinese restaurants in the area. It is really nice and ambient inside and it can cater very well for large groups with big round tables, but thats about the best of what it has to offer for me.

It is very…read moredecently priced and the nicest thing on the menu is their 'Chicken satay', although their "Honey chili chicken' is rather great too and one of the best I've tried. If you go to this restaurant, take your time. Make sure you don't rush away and miss out on what is a good little night out. It is small inside with only a few tables, but sometimes that can really add to the atmosphere of a restaurant. It makes me feel like I have done well to get a table there and that I am really going to be looked after well. The staff here are really nice and so attentive, you can really tell they take pride in what they do and it comes across in the food. Great stuff, I'll be back!!!

All the boxes are ticked: Bring Your Own Booze Reasonably priced food No problem with sitting for 5 hours at the same table talking total drivel Tolerant staff You can send the whole night eating and drink in the Good Fortune for about £20. How thrifty is that, and also very good fun. The last time I went, I promised the husband I would be home 'about 11' as we were only going somewhere local. Fast forward to 4am and I had just made it home, having met a friend of a friend of a friend in The Good Fortune, going back to their house and eating and drinking them out of house and home. See? the Good Fortune certainly lived up to its name. As the food is pretty cheap - around £7 for a main course and £4 for a starter, you shouldn't expect Chinese fine cuisine. What you should expect is good sized portions and good tasty food. They also don't mind if you just keep ordering lots of starters to go with your wine. A great place for couples, families and it's very popular with groups too. Even though the larger groups are usually on a mission to get p%^^&*d, there is always a happy relaxed atmosphere. The Good Fortune is always popular, so don't turn up at the weekend if you haven't booked. Even if you have booked, you may have a bit of a wait in the tiny area at the front. Be prepared for that and take comfort from the fact that they let you open your wine while you are waiting. Another little bit of good fortune!

Date…read moreof purchase: 17-07-2012 ....Living in Comber (the land of amazing takeaways) I ventured out at midnight on a Monday evening in search of spicy meat. Everywhere was closed so I went into nearby Newtownards and found the Ruby was still open. The old Chinese guy seemed really annoyed that I was ordering at this time as he was about to close shop. A chicken fried rice with curry was the order, £7.70 the price (+Diet Coke). I waited in silence for ten mins as I heard him cooking up my midnight feast. I then recoiled in horror as I heard him 'hawking up a flemer' that is Ulster Scotch for 'bringing thick lung mucus to the forefront of his mouth from the depths of his bronchioles'. I then heard him spit loudly followed by muffled laughter. When he brought the meal to me I immediately questioned him "did you just f***ing spit in my meal"? he started laughing and suddenly the only word he could speak was "thank you, thank you" I was not 100% sure he hawked in my curry as the view of the kitchen is blocked off by a wall but there was no way I was eating this meal. I took it away an inspected it in my car and to be fair I couldn't find his flemmer but I feared it was stirred into my portion of curry sauce. I will however be giving the meal to the appropriate authorities to see if saliva is present in the meal and if that's the case, may the law suit commence. Avoid at all costs.

Legend has it that during Northern Ireland's…read more'Troubles', a local paramilitary group known as 'The Provies' tried to rob the Weo Ping one night. The Chinese owner behind the counter tried to make them leave by saying, "No hurt me, me Provie too, me Provie too!" This myth has literally travelled the world over so that whenever I've been in Irish bars in North America, second generation Irish kids will ask me if i know "Provie Charlie's" (the Weo Pings's nickname). For a chinese, the food isn't bad at all in the Weo Ping. It's of a much higher quality than other Chinese takeouts in the surrounding area. But I agree with the last reviewer that it can tiresome after a while, but I put this down to the fact that North Belfast's takeaways offer predominantly Chinese food with very little variety. So if I'm not screaming about how great this place is, it's only because I've grown up on it.

This is probably one of the first Chinese takeaways I ever tried and it's a brilliant one to start off with. Their salted chilli chicken is fantastic. The chicken is perfectly cooked, and despite in being a dish without a sauce it's never to dry. The best thing about Weo Ping however, is their curry sauce. By far its the best curry I've ever tasted and could possibly make an old trainer just tasty enough to eat! Their prices are brilliant, the delivery charge is barely noticeable. The only problem I have (if you could even be a problem) is their enormous portion sizes! This is only a problem because of the guilt I feel, throwing out their epic grub that I just couldn't fit into my belly!
